People always forget, that backtracking used to be a major selling point of adventure games back then. You see something odd, you learn a new ability and later come back to that weird spot to get a nice reward. Old Zelda games were filled with backtracking and are loved for that by fans.
lol it’s funny that people simultaneously hate backtracking and linearity….what do they want in a game? One where you only ever go forward but it’s somehow not linear, or one where you never go forward? The 2 things don’t really conflict, but they feel like they do. I just don’t have an issue with either. A linear game can still be fun. Backtracking is fine, so long as it makes sense, like in your examples
It's about player choice. Backtracking is only annoying if the game forces you to backtrack. For example, fetch questions or just talking to another NPC. Its different when the player chooses to backtrack. You feel clever for it because you remembered something odd you didn't have access to and chose to go there on your own. The game didn't force it on you.
One thing I praise about TTYD is how much interesting story telling and dialogue there actually is. It’s a great game to have played as a kid. It’s not just mindless fun you have to somewhat critically think about what to do at times and also pay attention to the dialogue. It’s perfect in this way in that it engages your mind but not as much as a Zelda game would. It’s like a perfect medium. It’s a very immersive game also because many of the things you can do and social situations that happen run parallel to real life. The depth of each character is another amazing thing too. It ultimately really does feel like playing through a movie. There’s some sci fi plots lines y’all wouldn’t believe actually happen. Especially in the context of a mario game. The music and visuals really match up with each little chapter in the storyline too. This and games like sunshine you can tell were real passion projects. All the little things you can do and find it’s great.
@@swordsnake305And most of them were only used once or twice in the entire game. Some of them their one use is in the same room you got them in even. It's not even really much of a problem since the former partners were largely only ever brought out when you needed to do a particular puzzle anyway, but they had more personality than any of the pixels except Tippi.
After playing TTYD, and looking back at origami king. Yeah I can see why people find the newer games insulting… Screw the limitations, unique character ftw.
If I had to put into words why I’m excited, two things. 1) This series has derived into a strange direction ever since sticker star. A lack of unique characters, battles that actually don’t reward you for fighting enemies, obtuse solutions to puzzles, a lot of things that people considered to be the opposite of the franchise. Seeing Nintendo give us back something that I myself believe is a better system that needs to be reused, I now more than ever want to show them this with my money. If the sales for this game are that much better, than it’ll show Nintendo what we want. 2) There’s been lots of QoL changes that I can’t ignore. I often times see old remasters make the mistake of just updating the graphics slightly and not thinking about what more you can add or patch out of a game. Seeing that Nintendo isn’t falling down that same trap, again, I WANT to support it. This remake is a game that I WANT to show support to, more than Origami King, surprisingly. If Nintendo can give me a product better than my Dolphin Emulator, you bet your ass I’m in.
"battles that actually don’t reward you for fighting enemies," Honestly that one thing killed it for me more than anything else. The fact that they went 3 games straight without you even being able to get anything out of fighting anything but the bosses made any other battles pointless and thus not fun.
''People asked for a remake for a very long time'' That's not true, people asked for a port and with Arlo's movement, people asked for at least a remaster. Nobody asked for a remake because we felt like it was too much to ask. That's why for a lot of people even months later it feels unreal that they not only remade it, but they improved on a lot of the original's issues and changed so many things for the better. If you look at many content creators from the era of #remasterthousandyeardoor , you'll see that nobody ever asked for a remake.
Adding to that it’s got to the point: remake=changes. And these changes will impact the attachment folks had with the original game. The remake arguably has made too many changes that weren’t asked or needed. But that’s really the nitpicks that leave others upset and that’s where the TTYD controversy goes deeper.
....there were people wanting a remake, before Arlo's video /push. But I will admit his video invigorated us to demand a remake, and it probably convinced the developers that remaking TTYD is worthwhile. edit: maybe my memory isn't as good as I thought it was, but I know people were clamoring for a TTYD style game as easly as 2006
@@pizzagroom6221 I don't remember people asking for a remake, we always felt deep down that it could be too much to ask, it feels like asking just a remaster would have made us super happy and more likely. I'm really glad that Nintendo went the extra mile to do a remake. It just feels unreal still.
@@pizzagroom6221but a Remake suggest change and that to me post 2020 means they'll add something "wonky" or take something out of the game that wasn't controversial in 2004 but it is today in 2024. I do wish to support the franchise but remakes doesn't mean the Game would be good as the original. For example, SMRPG remake was a good game but it was made easier in so many ways. They did add good changes to it but the difficulty level was far too easy.
The blame is more deserved towards series producer Kensuke Tanabe for why Paper Mario detracted from its RPG roots. He's the one who decided to prioritize reinventing the wheel and trying out different battle systems following Super Paper Mario.
TTYD fan here. The reason it’s so amazing is because it’s essentially a sequel to Mario RPG, but with way more gameplay option, clearer story, and actual time in game. I have enjoyed every minute of it.
2:17 boy, that duck sure gets away in a hurry! … I’ve not seen your channel till today, but I’m glad to have happened across it. Your comments are thoughtful and engaging rather than shallow and argumentative-and I find the latter entirely too often.
Regarding the Switch "not having a personality", I disagree. It has one. It's a very clean and fun system to use in many different ways. It's pratical to use in any of its modes. And I will take that over the confusing and convoluted menus of Wii U and 3DS any day. Trust me, I've been with Nintendo for a while and that's probably the best UX they ever made. It's pick up and play and conserves power and memory for games. It's similar to the Wii menu, but better. Plus, we got Odyssey, Wonder, Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Dread, Pikmin 4, Super Samsh Bros Ultimate, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Super Mario Maker 2, Splatoon 3, Luigi's Mansion 3 and so many others... It's the dream console in terms of games.
3:07. This is inaccurate. Many fans back then hated Super Paper Mario for its gameplay differences. I loved the game but to say that Sticker Star is where people started taking issue is wrong.
I'm one of those that ignored Color Splash due to my hatred of Sticker Star so how exactly was it trying to be like the old PM games when from what I've heard it still has pointless battles and is structured like Sticker Star?
@@TheRenaissanceOfficial I don't know, when I first saw that trailer and saw that the world map was back from Sticker Star and the overall vibe I got was Sticker Star 2.0 so PM was dead to me at that point. My first PM game was the very first one back on N64, I didn't even like Super Paper Mario which alot of people seem to love nowdays but I remember when that game first came out it got tons of hate online for being a 2D sidescroller and the pixis replacing partners was also hated and we didn't even consider those things to be partners.
Ttyd could definitely be considered overrated by hardcore fans who love the game. However as a hardcore fan who loves the game I just can’t help how much I love this game and want everybody to play it. It may not be perfect for today’s standards, and might be easy, but holy cow is it a fun world and story to immerse yourself in. Easy enough to beat for everybody, with a sprinkle of challenge and fun ways to play the game. Everybody should get this game.
It’s crazy, as a kid I never thought it was too easy. In fact, trying to figure out where to go next was sometimes difficult. I think I even stopped playing at one time because I didn’t know where to go. The combat was just enough of a challenge. Perhaps as an adult it does feel easy, but I’m soooo looking forward to playing this remake. I hope they got it right.
I may be biased but it is the story that makes TTYD perfect for me. No Mario game has such a good story, only Super Paper Mario can keep up. However, I enjoy the gameplay of TTYD more. Therefore it is my favourite game!
It's kind of a long game too if you want to 100% it. I don't remember much because of the length but it was hilarious. I recall being stuck in that one part. (I don't want to spoil it) but it has something to do with an accusation of some kind. That's the only thing I can recall. (20 years later)
In my opinion, from the 4 Paper Mario games I've played, PM64, SPM, and TOK did very well with their stories. I haven't gotten around to SS or TTYD yet so I'm not gonna form any opinion on those yet
@@noremforI want to come back after you played TTYD. And see what you have to say. I love this game and I’m glad more people are going to be introduced to it!
I get Color Splash has its fundamental flaws, lack of unique characters and a wonky combat system for one, but I still have a ton of nostalgia for it and had my fun
I'm playing it for the first time this Thursday alongside many others, and it really makes me happy to see someone else with Galaxy as their No. 1 game of all time with curiosity, anxiety, and excitement at the thought of TTYD taking the throne.
Origami King was also my first Paper Mario game, and I wish I could have enjoyed it as much as you did, but I just thought it was mediocre. If it wasn’t for the world and boss battles, the game would have been a lost cause for me. Since then I played a few hours of Paper Mario 64, and I absolutely loved what I played. I’m super excited for the TTYD remake, and I already know it’s going to become one of my favorite games of all time
Sticker star was my first paper Mario game ☠️ ironically enough, I actually enjoyed it (mainly because I was a small child when I first played it) but I’ve since come to dislike it, though I will say the ice world was actually fun. My second games was origami king and I really enjoyed it, though now I don’t really like the battle system for normal battles much, and I only do it if I want to hear the battle music in each area. 64 I played and beat for the first time a year ago, and I really loved what I played. I’ve never played ttyd (I’ve only ever seen playthroughs, but that was so long ago), so I’m also excited to see what it’s like
@@NathAnarchy45 as of right now it’s my favorite one, it has so much charm. It’ll probably be tied with this ttyd remake for my favorite because I have a soft spot for it
Although I personally am not excited for TTYD since i never really got into paper Mario, (more of a M&L fan) I'm happy that all the Paper Mario fans are getting what they want, since from what I've heard this one is the best out of all of them
I hope you give the series another chance now! paper Mario sticker star, color splash, and origami king are just not what people fell in love with. ttyd is the best game for you to try if you enjoyed Mario and Luigi. either way, hope you at least consider!
@@GravityBouncer I mean, it’s also cause I haven’t really gotten the chance, because I have played the original n64 version on an emulator but never got to far, it was not bad! But I still prefer the brothers, so who knows, maybe one day I’ll give paper Mario another shot
Even beyond the world building aspect, the games after Sticker Star have massive flaws with their combat systems, and that doesn't even take into account them completely gutting all the RPG elements.
As a TTYD fan, I think Color Splash and Origami King are good games. I have a lot of problems with Color Splash, but other than the leak of “unique” (in the sense of names and design) characters, partners and battle system, I think Origami King is a good game. I think the problem with the fanbase is that there is no civil discussion. In both sides, the vocal toxic minority always is going to pull people away from games that they could have love. For exemple, imagine if you never played TTYD because of the fanbase and vice-versa, you would be loosing great games. Thats what I think about the Paper Mario fanbase. The majority of people are civil, but these toxic minorities keep dividing the franchise.
No offense but the majority of the toxicity from my perspective has been coming from the old fans, like overwhelming so, and unfortunately for them it looks like karma is coming in fast
My problem is that just looking at them objectively, the new games do nothing better than the old ones apart from looking better and maybe being funnier. Gameplay wise the new games are identity crises with combat that's just a slower version of what we had before. The ideas were cute, the execution was abysmal. Origami king barely even has "combat" it has "puzzles" which im sure some people enjoy but I and many others despise it (the stickers/cards were purely just terrible). They didn't want them to be "RPG's" but made the game revolve around turn based combat, thats not how that works. Super paper mario on the Wii did this better, combat may have been simple, but it actually felt unique and set itself apart (albeit the tacked on rpg elements like levels was kinda just weird there too), in addition to not taking up a bunch of time. Story wise OK is the only one really worth talking about tbh. I think its good, but super and TTYD I'd say were much more interesting and thats primarily because of the unique characters. The new game has Olivia and Ollie and thats it, no bobby doesn't count because he is literally named "bob-omb", he's just a plain ordinary bob-omb without a fuse. I cannot emotionally invest in that, I'm sorry. But the plot itself, cute and its good. Those Id say are the 2 primary pillars that any game stands on when we say what's "good", and comparatively the old games had pillars of concrete where the new ones have pillars of sand. Subjectively i mean like whichever ones you like IDC they're all charming, but objectively the new games are just a mess in terms of design and inconsistent limitations that nobody, and I mean NOBODY wanted. Seriously, we can't have unique characters... But we can get Huey, and Ollie/Olivia, and... Whatever the crown's name was i cant remember cause she was just awful? It makes absolutely 0 sense.
@@sebastianguerrero6617 yes definitely older fans because the existence of the newer games means no new games based on the old style of paper mario. there isn't give or take, its a either one or the other it seems like. What do you mean by karma though? Seems like they're getting what they want with the remake
The only things I liked about Color Splash was the music and that they gave the Koopalings ACTUAL personalities. I hope their next appearance gives them those personalities(or new ones) and maybe even new designs!
I don’t know if I’m an Origami King apologist or what, but I enjoyed it a lot. And hot take, I actually had a more memorable time playing Origami King, than my recent first playthrough of the original on N64.
I've been playing for a few weeks, at least whenever I get the chance. I was always more of a M&L fan than a Paper Mario one, I tried to get into PM64 but it didn't really click with me. But I've given the older formula another shot with TTYD and I finally get what fans of this game have been saying. The game is chalk full of genuine charm and the battle system, while simple at first, has so many nuiances that encourage you to perfect you're inputs. The partners implement a whole new layer of strategy too
Loved this game as a kid, I played so much thousand year door on my game cube growing up and when I saw the remake was announced live I cried tears of joy
TBH, what I want is a NEW story-written game with similar Mario-flavored deep lore building and even tighter gameplay in the Action-Augmented TBRPG style.
Honestly, everyone keeps talking about the RPG combat and story as if they’re mutually exclusive with the paper aesthetic. Personally I’m actually a huge fan of the paper craft aesthetic, and think that there’s a lot of potential for fun story and environments with it, but it just so happens that the games that focused on it more heavily were the ones that moved away from RPG stuff and story… Honestly, I’d play through a version of Origami King that had a normal battle system and probably love it, but with the stupid match-4 combat as it is, I don’t have the patience to get past the water temple.
Personally I find the original to be a 7/10. Hopefully the remake will improve it. I was disappointed that apparently the tree chapter didn’t have any significant shortcuts added. Hopefully the Doopliss chapter has some.
Been playing Mario games for 35 years now. Never played any games in the paper mario series but i picked up a copy of 1000 year door 4 days after release. Enjoying it so far. Very funny dialogue and the game clearly doesn't take its self too seriously.
I don't like it when Remake games get "stuff taken" out due to modern or social issues. I don't mind if they add content or additional bosses like in SMRPG or Dragon Quest 7 Remake. But I just wish every single change gets mentioned in a video. I want to support the Paper Mario franchise so I'm not hating here.
FR, I have never done so until now but I do plan to buy maybe 3-5 physical copies of TTYD for friends and family just to support this. Whether it's 3 or 5 probably depends if they cut Vivian's story short *again*.
7:45 i don't believe in "the Mario mandates" because i feel like everything tied to the theory could be explained by the Wii U/3ds generation being really bad for Nintendo financially or misinterpetations, example: 1) characters being "bland" where propably just budget cuts because reusing established designs is (propably) cheaper than paying artists to come up with new characters 2) other Mario games at the time "not suffering" is propably due to being in development long before the budget cuts happend or the brand of the series required new characters 3) Miyamoto disliking story's has already been debunked by the man himself (the games he directs is also proof that it's not true and never has been true)
The reason why Paper Mario had problems with original characters is because Super Paper Mario was bearly a Mario game to begin with, which is why Dream team ended up original
Budget problems? We're talking about Nintendo, one of the richest companies in Japan. And we're not just talking about recently, Nintendo was never at a state where they're not rich. Wii U did not sell well, but the 3DS still did really well and the fanbase is still huge to pay big amounts of money Nintendo offers like Amibos and lot of their games are successful at the time. Also making new characters with different designs, even as simple as different clothes to a Goomba and creating a story doesn't necessarily get in a way for budget.
The mandates pertaining to Paper Maro are a fact. The devs said *"Since Paper Mario: Sticker Star, it’s no longer possible to modify Mario characters or to create original characters that touch on the Mario universe."* and *"all character designs have to pass a check by our IP team, which is pretty strict."*
Paper Mario 64 and Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door are regarded as the best Paper Mario games by many and this video does a really good job at explaining why! Good video Also yeah technically Super Mario RPG is technically the first game since Paper Mario was originally a sequel to Mario RPG but now we also have the Mario & Luigi RPG series that is more of the classic snes Super Mario RPG style.
I really should buy this game to send a message to nintendo that old paper mario is much better than new paper mario... but all nintendo will.think is "well, it sold well because more people have a nintendo switch now". I also still have my original copy and gamecube.
I think that there were two main things which greatly hurt Color Splash. 1. It was basically Sticker Star 2. Yes it did improve upon its predecessor, but it was very much in the same style, and did share a lot of the same issues. 2. It released on the WiiU. The WiiU didn't sell very well, and a lot of the people who would buy it were old Nintendo diehards. And they had been burned by Sticker Star, which this game looked a lot like.
i of gotten the pre order and just waiting for next Week because well TTYD is a game i grew up with as a kid and haven't played it in like 10 or so years
I don’t remember the story for this game. I just remember at one point it had a plot twist or reveal that was so damn good it blew me away. lol I don’t even remember what it was but I’ll be happy to be able to relive that moment
Just finished it this week. A great game, but does not live up to the hype. Most chapters are like, 6 screens left to right that send you from screen 1 to screen 6, back to screen 1, to screen 5, back to 1, to 6. The first Paper Mario had more areas with multiple exits. I liked it but it's another example of a game gaining legendary status because of lack of availability for so long.
For me actually i liked both styles. I would like the stickers/cards of the new era but the partners and probably XP of the old series. Oh and cant forget having HP visible in some way. I just hate super paper mario.
Literally the only thing I don't like about this game is the backtracking. Having to go to hooktails castle 3 times after the chapter was over is insane. 1st Mrs Mowz. 2nd the up arrow. And 3rd the parlor card for hide and seek.
I feel like nintendo is trying to make paper mario more *paper* like and making it feel like real. And uh... It might be hard for the story to be "good" To be fair i still love Colour Splash and Origami King. Both have a pretty happy theme. Also im sad you didnt talk about the Paper Mario OST anywhere. Because its so good. Im going to looking for the duck now.
tbf Nintendo is no stranger to using nostalgia bait to make some easy money. Why do you think they put funky kong in the Mario kart dlc despite him barely even being a relevant character anymore? Why do you think they keep remastering old games instead of making more new ones? It’s because nostalgia sells VERY well
It expanded upon literally everything the fans loved about the original Paper Mario while adding and having its own charm and flair. I think TTYD definitely deserves the hype and love.
Super Paper Mario was my first Paper Mario, and there are aplenty people who dislike that game, so I totally understand your bias for Origami King, SPM was and still is my favorite. I haven't gotten around to TTYD yet but I'm excited to get started! Also despite its flaws I think Origami King was an extremely well "crafted" game, if you catch my drift. It's story is very well made, the battle system is pretty fun, and it's musical score is phenomenal. While it is still a ways off from the classic Paper Mario games, I hold it in quite a high regard. I dont think there is a single game in this series that is bad, they're all great in their own ways, but I do believe Sticker Star could have done better. People held high expectations for Sticker Star because of the last 3 games performing very well so I understand why people hate it so much.
This all goes back to Nintendo's decision to not make a true Mario RPG 2, and instead make the first paper mario an RPG. They could've made RPG games for the people who really wanted that, and then paper mario games where they can try out whatever new ideas they have. Instead, the two series/genres became intertwined, and neither the RPG nor the paper fans were getting what they really wanted.
the one thing I'm worried about this game right now is that when it come out and it probably won't do as well as Origami King that the old school fans are going be seriously outrage and complain about There's multiple reasons why like modern fans and older fans not getting along and that leading to the new offense not wanting to support this game along with them want paper mario to continue doing what has been doing lately. There's also the very clear pattern of The second game of a series that launches on the same console not doing as well as the first one. And then there's a fact that it's viewed as a bit of a filer title between now and the new console release and Isn't that exciting to most fans except for the hard cord ones. There's a lot more details to those points but my Point still stands. I'm Just getting ready for how things will Oregon likely play out after this game launches, and it's not gonna be pretty trust me
i grew up with paper mario sticker star and color splash and loves those games to death especially color splash but come on, the thousand year door is miles better
I’m looking forward for this remaster as I’ve been starving for a good Paper Mario game for a long time. Origami King is okay, but Color Splash and Sticker Star are bad due to the battle mechanics making it unnecessary hard and bad. I couldn’t win the final boss in Sticker Star due to running out of attack stickers which is Bul$&! and I stop playing Color Splash due to I got sick of the attack cards and colors battle mechanic which way better than Sticker Star but still pretty bad.
Nintendo just needed to wait if they´d released Paper Mario: The Origami King and The Thousand-Year Door Remake simultaneously they set themselves up for failure. With Metroid and Pikmin releasing new releases and remasters at the same time slot didn´t undermine their own sales. It took some planning to phase out the new projects without damaging potential sales and transition to RPGs. Now Nintendo can continue this on the next gen Switch with new releases.
Love when an review where u think they're not gonna like it turns out they love it after playing it Not only this game but super mario rpg as well, we literally thought they would never see the light of days but nintendo finally listen - rip mother 3 fans still -
My favorite Paper Mario game is Colour Splash. I love the graphics, writing, combat, scenery, etc. I hope TTYD lives up to the standard the community holds it to. I also hope that if Nintendo wants to take the series in the direction of the first 2 games, they can still bring the good aspects of the modern games.

I hope we also get a remake of Mario & Luigi Bowser’s Inside Story. That game is regarded as the best of the Mario & Luigi series just as TTYD is considered the best of Paper Mario
@@MusicJunkie37 BiS wouldnt be that easy to port honestly, knowing that both the Original and the Remake used the 2 screens in order to work, apart of some DS capacities that could be hard to port into the switch, like the touchscreen not being as comfortable as the 3/2/DS for its size.

"battles that actually don’t reward you for fighting enemies,"
Honestly that one thing killed it for me more than anything else.
Thats cause the original was already basically perfect for those who played it
Adding to that it’s got to the point: remake=changes.
Amen
I agree with you for the most part but I still want music for the menus.
3:07. This is inaccurate. Many fans back then hated Super Paper Mario for its gameplay differences. I loved the game but to say that Sticker Star is where people started taking issue is wrong.
I've never played Paper Mario TTYD but I'm so excited to play this game with the remake version
Can’t wait for you to enjoy it! This was a very integral part of my childhood and can’t wait to experience this! Enjoy!
@@8BitSkorPO
I love seeing comments like these because I also share the same sentiment; that game was part of my childhood.
I'm one of those that ignored Color Splash due to my hatred of Sticker Star so how exactly was it trying to be like the old PM games when from what I've heard it still has pointless battles and is structured like Sticker Star?
The dialogue, although the characters might have a more plain design. You can still find pretty funny writing.
@@noremfor Yeah, I agree. The Paper Mario games you played do have good stories.
@@noremforI want to come back after you played TTYD. And see what you have to say. I love this game and I’m glad more people are going to be introduced to it!
"If it wasn't for the games, this console would be pretty bland" yeah no shit its almost like that's the point of owning a console.
I get Color Splash has its fundamental flaws, lack of unique characters and a wonky combat system for one, but I still have a ton of nostalgia for it and had my fun
True but like, got to admit Nintendo forgot what paper mario was
I'm playing it for the first time this Thursday alongside many others, and it really makes me happy to see someone else with Galaxy as their No. 1 game of all time with curiosity, anxiety, and excitement at the thought of TTYD taking the throne.
Me and you both
Origami King was also my first Paper Mario game, and I wish I could have enjoyed it as much as you did, but I just thought it was mediocre. If it wasn’t for the world and boss battles, the game would have been a lost cause for me. Since then I played a few hours of Paper Mario 64, and I absolutely loved what I played. I’m super excited for the TTYD remake, and I already know it’s going to become one of my favorite games of all time
Very nice to hear the perspective of someone who played a newer one first and the older ones second, and prefers the original style.
I’ve never played ttyd (I’ve only ever seen playthroughs, but that was so long ago), so I’m also excited to see what it’s like
You really need to play Paper Mario 64- oh you did
good cuz its the best one and Idk why everyone says otherwise
@@NathAnarchy45 as of right now it’s my favorite one, it has so much charm. It’ll probably be tied with this ttyd remake for my favorite because I have a soft spot for it
Although I personally am not excited for TTYD since i never really got into paper Mario, (more of a M&L fan) I'm happy that all the Paper Mario fans are getting what they want, since from what I've heard this one is the best out of all of them
paper mario is really just mario and luigi but in 2.5d and better humor imo
I still love Mario and Luigi series, wish Alphadream didnt go under
We’ve got Paper Mario, and Super Mario RPG. I don’t think a Mario&Luigi games is that far out there anymore.
THIS
No offense but the majority of the toxicity from my perspective has been coming from the old fans, like overwhelming so, and unfortunately for them it looks like karma is coming in fast
@@sebastianguerrero6617 pretty much
The only things I liked about Color Splash was the music and that they gave the Koopalings ACTUAL personalities. I hope their next appearance gives them those personalities(or new ones) and maybe even new designs!
The most adult mario game out there.
This game is all about Death, Crime, Love, Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n Roll and that's why I love Paper Mario TTYD
… sex?
I don’t know if I’m an Origami King apologist or what, but I enjoyed it a lot. And hot take, I actually had a more memorable time playing Origami King, than my recent first playthrough of the original on N64.
I'm loving the remake so far! I hope we also get a Super Paper Mario remake like this one day
I heard they hired a DEI team to help work on it so I'm a little hesitant on buying it.
DEI what’s that
I've been playing for a few weeks, at least whenever I get the chance.
Personally I’m actually a huge fan of the paper craft aesthetic, and think that there’s a lot of potential for fun story and environments with it, but it just so happens that the games that focused on it more heavily were the ones that moved away from RPG stuff and story… Honestly, I’d play through a version of Origami King that had a normal battle system and probably love it, but with the stupid match-4 combat as it is, I don’t have the patience to get past the water temple.
nice video slick🙌 i'm stoked for the remake myself!
Personally I find the original to be a 7/10. Hopefully the remake will improve it. I was disappointed that apparently the tree chapter didn’t have any significant shortcuts added. Hopefully the Doopliss chapter has some.
Because it's simply legendary 🗿🔝😎
Been playing Mario games for 35 years now. Never played any games in the paper mario series but i picked up a copy of 1000 year door 4 days after release. Enjoying it so far. Very funny dialogue and the game clearly doesn't take its self too seriously.
I don't like it when Remake games get "stuff taken" out due to modern or social issues. I don't mind if they add content or additional bosses like in SMRPG or Dragon Quest 7 Remake. But I just wish every single change gets mentioned in a video. I want to support the Paper Mario franchise so I'm not hating here.
Every change noted so far is on the Mariowiki and I am sure it'll update accordingly when the game comes out
I hated TOK at first, but it grew on me. PM64 is still my favorite.
I bought TOK in 2020 & only now playing it cause of all the TTYD hype. I'm actually enjoying it, ring battle system & all
Paper Mario: TTYD is to Nintendo what Fallout : New vegas is to Bethesda.
AAA titles they refused to return to
I only ever preordered mario rpg and paper mario ttyd really hope Nintendo knows what i want to support
FR, I have never done so until now but I do plan to buy maybe 3-5 physical copies of TTYD for friends and family just to support this. Whether it's 3 or 5 probably depends if they cut Vivian's story short *again*.

i don't believe in "the Mario mandates" because i feel like everything tied to the theory could be explained by the Wii U/3ds generation being really bad for Nintendo financially or misinterpetations, example:
1) characters being "bland" where propably just budget cuts because reusing established designs is (propably) cheaper than paying artists to come up with new characters
2) other Mario games at the time "not suffering" is propably due to being in development long before the budget cuts happend or the brand of the series required new characters
3) Miyamoto disliking story's has already been debunked by the man himself (the games he directs is also proof that it's not true and never has been true)
@@retrofan4963 well that part is for alphadream
@@volvoman5262 those are different developers though
The mandates pertaining to Paper Maro are a fact. The devs said *"Since Paper Mario: Sticker Star, it’s no longer possible to modify Mario characters or to create original characters that touch on the Mario universe."* and *"all character designs have to pass a check by our IP team, which is pretty strict."*
I’ve played TTYD like 4 times over.. so excited for updated 5th run on the Switch!! Target got my delivery for Thursday!!
Paper Mario 64 and Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door are regarded as the best Paper Mario games by many and this video does a really good job at explaining why! Good video
Also yeah technically Super Mario RPG is technically the first game since Paper Mario was originally a sequel to Mario RPG but now we also have the Mario & Luigi RPG series that is more of the classic snes Super Mario RPG style.
Im 23, personally it's my favorite RPG of all time
Although TTYD is my favorite Paper Mario........ I really kinda wish/hope (?) we'd get a remake of the N64 one.
(1:20-1:30) Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling. Your welcome.
i of gotten the pre order and just waiting for next Week because well TTYD is a game i grew up with as a kid and haven't played it in like 10 or so years
I don’t remember the story for this game. I just remember at one point it had a plot twist or reveal that was so damn good it blew me away. lol I don’t even remember what it was but I’ll be happy to be able to relive that moment
Hell ya
Fineeeeeeeeeee. I've never played a Paper Mario game and you've convinced me to go grab this tomorrow.
This is my first paper mario game. I'm still not sold on it yet but its growing on me. A little bit easy for someone like me who plays lots of rpgs.
I definitely understand it being too easy. But challenge isn’t really the reason I play Paper Mario. It’s more of the experience and the story.
And uh... It might be hard for the story to be "good"
To be fair i still love Colour Splash and Origami King. Both have a pretty happy theme.
Also im sad you didnt talk about the Paper Mario OST anywhere. Because its so good.
Im going to looking for the duck now.
As a Guy who has played PM64,CS,and TOK (and enjoyed all of them)
I have no doubt I’ll enjoy this one too
tbf Nintendo is no stranger to using nostalgia bait to make some easy money.
I can’t wait for you to try TTYD imo a masterpiece (out of all in the franchise, well maybe not more than the first one) but yes!
0:21 What inspired you to make a remake right next to Origami King?
MONEY. (From real fans)
This all goes back to Nintendo's decision to not make a true Mario RPG 2, and instead make the first paper mario an RPG.
They could've made RPG games for the people who really wanted that, and then paper mario games where they can try out whatever new ideas they have.
Instead, the two series/genres became intertwined, and neither the RPG nor the paper fans were getting what they really wanted.
the one thing I'm worried about this game right now is that when it come out and it probably won't do as well as Origami King that the old school fans are going be seriously outrage and complain about
There's multiple reasons why like modern fans and older fans not getting along and that leading to the new offense not wanting to support this game along with them want paper mario to continue doing what has been doing lately.
I'm Just getting ready for how things will Oregon likely play out after this game launches, and it's not gonna be pretty trust me
0:14 "BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME BUDDY!"

lol I'm joking
imagine if they ported sticker star instead
The short answer is yes. Game is good and the story is actually really interesting with a surprising twist at the end.
I’m hooked now, I’ve only ever played super paper Mario and that was fun so if this is apparently better I’ll have to see for myself
i grew up with paper mario sticker star and color splash and loves those games to death especially color splash but come on, the thousand year door is miles better
Just finished it in 4k 60fps on the ryujinx emulator very good game indeed
Playing it i get the exact feeling like its an OG mario and luigi game from the DS so yeah
Nintendo is missing out. I really don’t understand why my local target didn’t have ttyd on the shelf! But they have botw still at full price!
