overall super upset to see the classic characters go, i absolutely adored bradley when i was younger. luckily there is a haven park within my town so i may go and grab some merch of the group before it eventually gets tossed away in favour of the newer designs
Bradley was probably my favourite too, love hearing that others spent their childhoods there; and you're probably right about the merchandise - get on it! 😅

I may say I love old and new Rory but 1st I was very sad then a letter came out and I saw the 1st show I fell in love with them but it is sad to see them go
Rory and Bradley were always the highlight of my trip to Haven. They truly were the Mickey Mouse mascots for UK kids who couldn't afford trips to Disney. I still have all my plush toys and photos. I just don't get why companies try to fix stuff that isn't broken and has been loved for decades.
I’m absolutely gutted that Haven made this decision. When I was very young, I went to the Wild Duck resort pretty much every summer. I remember when Bradley Bear used to tell stories from the entertainment stage. I hope that other holiday resorts won’t follow suit. 😢
Brilliant memories at least, some other resorts have actually made statements in response, saying they're staying the same.

The Zoo Troop were my whole world back in my childhood along with Sonic, SpongeBob, My Little Pony and the Care Bears. I am literally crying right now!!! I’m gonna miss those critters xxxx

the nostalgia of 2000s haven holidays hit me like a huge punch to the stomach, the weird swirly carpets, the creepy mascots, the distinct metallic smell of the 2p machines and the chlorine in the swimming pool, it all feels so surreal to think abt it now it doesn't exist like how i remember it anymore
That's so bizarre as those are the exact things I remember the most! Was shocked when I last saw a recent photo of my Haven Park - all the red carpets had been stripped out, everything was just plain white and modernised.

This is heartbreaking to hear , I grew up loving Haven’s Tiger Club kids from the Zoo Troop . Devon Cliffs was the main park I went to in 2007/8/9. I loved all the characters including Polly , Anxious, Rory, Greedy and more . I even got the Tiger Tv dvd from the Fun Shop . Had dance offs with fun stars and others on holiday . Learnt the dances and got the Cd etc .
Around my era then, good times.
i am absolutely devastated im 11 and i loved going to haven when i was 5 and when i heard this i couldnt believe what i was seeing and hearing i hope they reverse this.

Well said mate I used to work at a few havens and they are the main reason a lot come on holiday, I am friend with an entertainment manager and he’s told me they have all been ordered and take over in October sounds like a trail run to me what a strange time to change things a month before they shut

Haven't been in a while but yeah, that sounds pretty messed up.
Its so weird, I've been told multiple different things by workers, their help line said they stay until end of season (that's what thy were telling literally all the upset people who asked) then I ask another person and they say oct 1st, then another woman I asked said the new characters are slowly coming in from oct 1st and we will see the old ones at the same time, then I'm told its the park owner that decides but as I've seen many of the owners on Facebook saying they flat out refuse to accept the change and it still changing. Help line literally told me to complain on Facebook because everyone who works there hates the new change (everyone on Facebook is being ableist towards autistic people in the comments so I didn't want to voice my opinion) so in other words none of them have a clue and they can't asked the higher ups because they don't care 😐
I was so sad because I never got to see them all on stage together so I was always like "ill see them all next year" but next year I went somewhere else and now I just wanna see them all on stage again
George the Gorilla already exists though in the Rampage Video game and Movie series who is just a parody of King Kong.Weird you would want to share your name with a character who just smashes up building and eats people who when you name search for is the first thing that shows up. The characters over 30 years old and owned cuurently owned by Warner Brothers too.
Yup its totally bizarre. It made me think of Curious George too, who is close enough - being a monkey. Massive and unnecessary loss of brand recognition for them.
Went to Haven in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2018. By 2018 they changed the name from Zoo Troop to Seaside Squad which I was already upset about but I got over it because it was still the same characters, just beach themed. Googled these guys again just for nostalgia's sake to discover they scrapped Ned and Polly, replaced Bradley and Greedy and renamed Anxious to Annie?????? Absolutely devastated
Update: I'm actually in Haven right now, saw the new Seaside Squad, they're not nearly as bad as I thought. Not devastated anymore.
I remember watching these shows every time when I went to holiday resorts as a kid and knowing that they’re no longer around is kinda sad I feel like they were the British equivalent of the Chuck e cheese characters

I actually asked at a haven holiday park why they did to the old costumes of the characters and they said casually “oh we just binned them” wow they really saw no value to these characters :(

They should of kept the characters and make a museum on how haven changed in the years and how the characters changed from 1988 to 2022 different outfits
The company might bring the old characters back when the overwhelmingly negative reactions to the new ones causes the company to lose money.
You'd think so considering the terrible publicity the whole thing's gotten, though they seem to be numb to it somehow.
Oh well. If they lose money or go bankrupt then they have nobody to blame but themselves.
I hope so but all the characters already have costumes, new voice actors, videos etc so it would be a lot of money to waste 😔 really do hope that they change their minds tho.

this was such a nostalgia trip i remember going to the caravan site every year and wanting to see bradley and tony it was amazing always wanting a bradley and tony plush i even had the dvds for the show and i remember my first time going with my little sister she was obsessed with anxious lol, so this is heart breaking to see what there doing to the characters!
Now that I've actually been to Haven again and seen the new Seaside Squad, I have to say, I've started to warm up to them. The actual mascot costumes look really cute and the amount of joy radiating off the kids meeting them melted my heart.
I found out that Rory and George walked into breakfast because I heard some kid scream "RORY! IT'S RORY!" in the most excited voice I've ever heard from a child.
As much as I miss Anxious and the older Zoo Troop, I've made peace with it because as long as they keep making kids childhood memories, they're fine by me.

Before you even mentioned it, I was reading the tags under the video and was thinking: "why is there a Suicide Squad tag on this... oh! Seaside Squad."
My favourite was Manic the Parrot. There was also Sylvester the Snake. Both were gotten rid of years ago. Please do an in-depth history on the mascots and their music.
I miss the old ones so much I even ran back to the caravan just to get my phone to have a photo with Bradley but I haven’t had a single pic with the new ones
next time I go to devon cliffs in june or weymouth bay in october imma just casually walk in the livelounge, bugsys or capones with some massive boycott signs with my passes and get infront of the state and just casually start a riot with the kiddos.

There was a Tape when he invented a Salt generating machine and put the salt in the ocean
I haven't heard much at all about Bradley prior to the merging, so that's really interesting to hear!

My parents owned a caravan on a British Holidays Park for years when i was younger (Haven bought BH during that time and introduced the majority of the Zoo troop to join Bradley Bears existing cast (killing off Merlin the wizard 😭)
Bradley is a part of my childhood and i am heartbroken to see him retired

Around the time of the merger Merlin the Magician was retired merlin was great fun he was your traditional tower wizard who was grumpy

I recently visited a Haven campsite two days ago, unaware of the changes that had taken place. At the mini-market, I noticed the Seaside Squad area and was surprised to see that the familiar cuddly characters I've known since I was a baby had been replaced by some smaller characters that resembled those from Cocomelon or something. Honestly, I don't even want to see these new characters on stage.
The thing that bothers me the most is what they've done to Greedy. The George character isn't even a gorilla anymore; it's some weird blue abomination. It feels like they've taken away the essence of what made a gorilla character unique.
It's disheartening to witness these changes because these characters are significant in British holiday parks. I hope Haven considers reversing these decisions before it's too late. If nothing is done now, people might eventually forget about the original characters, and we'll be stuck with the likes of Jazz, Bradley's niece, whose name doesn't fit the bear theme at all, Annie the elephant who doesn't offend anxious people, George, who I can't even comprehend, and Rory, who now looks like an entirely different tiger.
The old characters had distinct characteristics that resonated with us, but these new ones seem to have been replaced with generic superpowers, which is quite disappointing. I sincerely hope it's not too late to bring back the beloved characters we all knew and cherished.

Ye, I discovered that they had changed the mascots around September 2023. After seeing that, I was both sad and angry at the same time, i was so dissapointed at haven, now haven has lost their reputation. The old characters were part of my childhood and I enjoyed going when I was about 5 (I'm now 16). And if haven wanted to make changes, why couldnt they have just created those new characters and just added them to the roster of the old ones? That wouldve made more sense. But no. The idea of creativity nowadays is pretty much going extinct. This change is also the reason why I wont go to a haven park anymore.
Wow. I hate this. I mean, wow, that CGI looks fucking abysmal. For a company that charges so much for holidays, you'd think they'd have a higher budget than that.
Sad to see yet another set of iconic characters get the unwanted ugly reboot treatment. I haven't been to a Haven resort in over a decade at this point, but still.
(Fun fact: I actually used to own a bunch of Haven merchandise as a kid. Don't have any of it anymore unfortunately.)
Definitely, the whole thing comes across as very cheap. It'll have been around a decade since I was last there properly - just one of those things that hits you when you least expect it. I remember winning a Greedy plush on stage, good times 😄

Rory’s new design is a solid 7/10 in my opinion he may look like a bootleg sonic the hedgehog but he is 100% the lucky one if there redesigning the characters and getting rid of some they should do a rotation every year they should rotate the characters to keep it fresh like one year it should be Bradley , Rory , Annie , George and the next year they could replace George for Ned and Annie for polly this keeps everyone happy and makes it more simpler

Last week me and my family went too the golden sands haven park and went into the live lounge to see the new seaside squad and to be honest they are not as bad as I thought. They are still abominations from hell yes but they do have a okay villain (that weird seaweed guy) in my opinion haven should have kept the normal cast and just let in jaz and the seaweed guy as side characters
Spotted the creepy new mascots on the Haven site and wondered when they gave the original designs the boot. I get that Haven needs to change with the times but damn I'm gonna miss the OG team

As a person with autism it's broke my heart that a character I'd been obsessed with since 2008 was just thrown away like nothing. They could have changed the name of greedy and anxious and added jazz but instead they took them all away and replaced them with some low quality hard to look at design that no body asked for. I've seen so many people on tiktok with autism having mental breakdowns over this and its just so sad. I'm wondering if the rights to the characters are finally up or all the voice actors contracts are coming to and end and they don't wanna find new ones that sound like the old ones. Genuinely so upset rn and hope that someone changes their mind🤞🤞🤞.

I've just looked on the site and the exact words are "the current squad will be around for a few more weeks yet", but that's oddly unspecific; Suffice to say, pretty soon.

@@SomeBoiOnline just spoken to a lady who works at haven, she says the characters are staying until November and we should all start telling their Facebook page how unhappy we are with the change in hopes that they re think.
Edit: been told that all parks are run differently and a lot are closing in Oct the 1st which makes no sense. Guessing they didn't wanna say the date because people would have to wait to book time off work and by the time they're off the characters will be replaced meaning that it looks like the characters bought more visitors.
The people who made this decision greatly underestimated how popular these characters are, for Gods sake they were even the mascots of a popular Canadian site 15 minutes from niagara falls with all the characters, new costumes and their own tiger club. Yeah the children who have the attention span of a fruit fly may enjoy the new stuff but the parents and older kids won't. After the first new show the only dancing I've seen from their other new shows are low effort baby tiktok style dances that only last a few seconds paired with crappy screen visuals. There is a reason behind bradley, polly and ned leaving but they are telling us it, there is no chance im hell that they'd remove the second most popular mascot and all the characters who also came from British holidays for no reason and I just want them to be honest with us as I'm really upset about it. I've seen many great ways to fix it but I doubt they'd listen, hope they do tho before its too late

At the time I wasn't too happy as we couldn't go on any other holidays due to the cost 😂 though in hindsight we were quite lucky to have it!
I agree they are a horrible bastardised insult. I wonder how the actors feel about there alter egos being destroyed. I love mascots even though they aren’t see as real, they are real in a way and our experiences with them are valid they are like old friends.
From what I've seen in their preformances, they don't seem to be enjoying it, plus the actors of polly, ned and bradley were basically fired because they changed the number of characters. Other workers there have told me it's a bad decision and even told me where the best places to complain would be so they could listen lmao
Haven seem to be living in a fantasy world, just ignoring the negative comments about the new characters. I have heard that the old ones still exist in some parks but it seems like they are mythical mascots. I feel bad for the fired mascots if that’s what happened.

Ever since blackstone bought boirne leisure things have just been for profit and not for entertainment. Look at this now its crap lucky butlins is escaping while it can before it goes downhill.
I saw that "Blackstone" had purchased Bourne Leisure recently and it definitely seems in line with the sudden lack of care for the company's assets. Such a shame.

It's not "Woke" as some articles are putting it. It's mainly rebranding to appear hip 'n' cool, and changing names to "appear" less offensive.. Only, it's coming off like an elderly celebrarity desprately trying to remain relevant to the kids.
I mean, that's about what you'd expect from The Sun. Always gotta complain about things being "woke".
went back this august for holiday and we had been nearly every year getting a caravan for a week and im so glad i got to see them one last time and i didnt even realise it woukd be the last time we saw the ogs
God I have huge nostalgia for these characters. I’m unsure how I feel about the new designs personally. I’m not sure if it’s the artstyle or something else. Anxious was definitely an odd name but I don’t it was ever seen as offensive. Greedy is like Fatty from the Beano. I heard he got renamed to Freddy to apparently ovoid offending overweight people

WHY DOES THE NEW ANXIOUS HAVE FINGERS 💀 Also making characters skinny af and calling it a glow up is weird, on top of that there's literally no reason to get rid of bradley polly and ned, I've been told that the story for polly and ned leaving is "polly is in the Royal lifeguarding force and DJ ned is in Ibiza" 😭 lifeguarding is an important job, why get rid of it for superheroes? No one can relate to the characters now, why can't they just bring back what they did in the past when merlin was there when he brought magic to the character just like the super bradley shows.
On top of this the name Annie for anxious is just stupid as there is literally a show where she states "my name is not annie" "that's not my name" multiple time, just showing that they people who made this decision have probably never once been to haven.
These were the only mascots besides Disney that actually look good, compared to every other mascot I've seen havens old ones were amazing, the reason they didn't change the characters for so long was because It worked. Looking over comments from the past years everyone said that they wish they had just returned to the zoo troop and do their own original songs again, the new things have fixed none of the previous issues, still singing the same cover of songs just with new voices which for somereason rory is now british???
I'm hoping to work here in 2024 so let's hope things get better.

Even when you do get older and go down with family (old enough to drink) they keep the club and "adult entertainment" usually some nobody singing open until 11pm on the dot... then throw you out !

These days haven is just an arcade that sucks your money , overpriced drinks , overpriced food and want to shove you away from the camp as fast as they can as far as im concerned.

I have anxiety from childhood trauma but am I offended by the name? No! Of course not! I am pretty sure I still have an Anxious plush and lanyard in my room somewhere from the final time I went

These look like something out of a nursery TV show a toddler would be playing out loud on their iPad on the bus

18 years, wow. We had a caravan for a good few years which made for plenty of memories, but haven't been in a long while now.
The new troop look absolutely terrible . I’ve been taking my family to Haven since the year 2000 Rory Greedy and Anxious were my kids favourites for years .
🫣 As a professional character designer, I can’t believe this absolute shemozzle! I’m from Australia and I’m not familiar with the Zoo Squad, but I will from now on refer to them as the Zooicide Squad!
As you said, if they want to diversify the suite of characters, then introduce new ones to offset the lineup. Another option is to develop a gradual narrative where a character evolves new characteristics over time. If they want Anxious or Greedy to be about more than their primary negative attributes, then one way to get there is to create a developing narrative where the other characters realise they never asked their real names, and then you have a thought provoking layer added without altering the core feature. That would allow the introduction of new names while still embracing the flaws of the characters. If they wanted to make the characters younger looking, then have them all as offspring, nieces and nephews of the original characters, or do a Muppet Babies style parallel launch so they can be younger while not obscuring the existing versions. In those instances, if the younger ones become more popular then they can naturally begin to establish themselves as primary, but if they don’t then they can be de-emphasised or phased out without murdering the original gang!
It would also help if the new versions didn’t look like they were designed by a rank amateur in 1995!!
There are many character groupings that don’t (or barely) pass the ingenious Bechdel Test. Even the Muppets struggle in this area, with the overwhelming majority of characters being male. And racial diversity is an important issue too. But there are much more clever ways or, rather, much less stupid ways, to incorporate diversity into an existing set of made-up folks. It can actually be a really fun process that refreshes what’s already there! The overarching rule should be to make changes incrementally without losing key aspects of the appeal of the property. In essence the main things to avoid are:
1. Harming the established relationship between the audience and the characters
2. Diluting the core appeal of the individual characters, or their team relationships
3. Breaking the visual or audial recognition of the characters
Seems like this company followed this list more as a recommendation than a warning! 🤦🏻♂️
That's a tremendous analysis of the situation, it's reassuring to see someone understand these issues. You've probably put more thought into this comment than Haven's management did full stop!

1. Nintendo game developer Masahiro Sakurai just started a RUclips channel, which I find to be amusing in itself - but the videos are also insightful and fun to watch.
2. I literally cannot think of any others off the top of my head, but I will say that the Lenny Henry sketch is actually a really good parody. I kinda love how it creeps people out so much.
3. Errm... The CGI? That's a tough one... But yeah, some of the visual effects such as the intro look more photorealistic than before.
@@SomeBoiOnline Okay then. Well, I remember The Simpsons doing a Wallace & Gromit parody once. It was titled “Willis & Crumble” and the real Nick Park made a cameo there, drawn in the signature Simpsons style.
As I said before I've seen the new characters perform and you are partly correct in something you suggested. The "squad" are physical mascots however the main villain is just a video on a touch screen. To me this just seemed lazy.

I went one time before it was changed, it was greedy and Bradley’s act! Buttt the voices weren’t working properly lol. Last time I saw them I hardly did, gutted that day, gutted when they changed it

Has the company ever give an official statement regarding the redesigns/removals? Cause in all fairness I’d take any information The Sun gives with a grain of salt honestly. I mean the reasoning for the characters removals that they gave just sounds like they made something up to get people even more riled up.
Yeah the initial announcement and information was directly from them. I get where you're coming from, though what backs it up for me is that they only renamed the characters with adjectives for names, i.e. Anxious and Greedy - whilst maintaining names like Rory, Bradley, Ned and Polly.
anxious was my favourite because I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder as a kid she was the best :/

I should have a swimming certificate with one of the Haven Hoildays gang on it, not that's much use given I changed my name since I got it.
I saw a show with Rory, Greedy and the Elephant... there were also two puppet characters a snake and a parrot.
Only half remember the bear, maybe they weren't fulled merged when I visited.
Yeah, it must've been pretty early on if the Snake and Parrot were still there, probably just prior to Bradley joining full-time.
For my 8th birthday (in 2021) I asked to go to haven and I was doing the kids bingo on my actual birthday and I won and got the extra large greedy teddy bear
as a kid growing up in the uk and going to these parks regularly even when the seaside squad was introduced when i was still the target demographic i still called them the “zoo troop” and didnt understand the change there, although im upset about the recent changes maybe its for the best? younger generations can have new characters to look up to.

They got to bring back the older classic character designs back! The new designs are too young-looking and it's extremely disrespectful to replace them like this! I gotta consider making a petition or something
I believe there were a few petitions, but that doesn't seem to have changed Haven's mind 😔

Just had a quick look and I can see Typhoo Tea made some mugs for A Close Shave, but weirdly can't see a Gromit one.

I guess these are the kinda corporate characters that just get crapper as time goes on. I'm, uh, considerably older and "The Zoo Troop" already sounds like a downgrade from my memories of "The Tiger Club"! Manic the Parrot was my favourite and he didn't even get a mention here! Great video though :)

It would be interesting to peek behind the scenes and learn how the Haven characters reached their new awful versions. It probably took a lot of work to produce something that bad.
I've worked on projects developing characters for companies and they are long and challenging. The characters must be original and appeal to children, whilst also acting as mascots and ambassadors for the brand. Often different directors within the same company will have conflicting ideas about the direction they want to go in and will also want every character to be all things to all people. This results in impossible tasks such creating a family of humans, but none of them can have a gender!
BTW when the Haven characters became the Seaside Squad, I'd be willing to bet that the creative was very deliberately riffing on the name Suicide Squad and the suits never got the reference! 😉
I've been a Haven goer since summer or spring of 2015 (I was born in winter of 2012) The first park I went to was blue dolphin, then al hallos, then primrose valley and most recently Thorpe park, so I was devistated when the change came to my attention. I still went to Thorpe Park, just avoiding the shows and clubs.If I die before they change back I'm resurecting and forcing Haven to (ofcourse I'm joking I can't resurect from the dead.
It is a bit like the time they got rid of Maxi,Millie and Multi at parkdean.
