  • Warren Harding High School is a public high school in Bridgeport, Connecticut, that opened its doors to students on September 9, 1925, after its cornerstone was laid on May 10, 1924. The school was named in honor of Warren G. Harding, the 29th President of the United States, who passed away shortly before its construction. Harding, a member of the Republican Party, was one of the most beloved sitting U.S. presidents, serving from 1921 until his death in 1923.
Designed by C. Wellington Walker, the original school featured elegant Georgian style architecture and striking Greek columns. The school was in operation for 93 years, producing a few NBA basketball players despite ranking in the bottom 50% of all schools in Connecticut for overall test scores.
In 2018, a new school was built on a former General Electric factory site at a cost of $107 million. The four-story, 207,000 square feet (19,200 m2) structure was equipped with top-of-the-line security features such as bulletproof glass and 130 security cameras. This new school was designed to provide a superior learning environment and enhanced safety measures to the students attending Harding High School in hopes of imroving its rank.
The old school has now been left abandoned with no future plans as of 2023, it now sits as a timecapsule and a relic of the past for all who attended.

It amazes me that in the USA a whole school is just abandoned, nothing has been taken and stored somewhere. The amount of money just wasted is phenomenal. I think that’s the more worrying aspect of these videos.

This was my high shool in 2008-2009. Fights throughout the day, metal detectors, i had 4 different math teachers in that year. If you ever seen the movie LEAN ON ME, it gives the same vibes. The school had the class clowns who walked out of class, kids who never showed up and then those who just showed up and made the best of it. Glad I was able to excel though.

It makes me so angry & sad that they just waste the books, furniture, paintings, woodwork, doors, lockers, etc. ALL of that could be sold or donated & put to good use. They don't care about cost because it's tax dollars, they don't care about history...just shameful. Josh I am glad you are exploring these places so at least there is some kind of record.

There needs to be some kind of historical organization/museum in each state that would come in to a school like that when it is closed and take like those books of history of the school, school flag, mascot, pictures and anything else of historical significance. Also maybe hire a person like Josh to do a in depth video of the entire school to preserve the history and legacy. Something like this could extend out to businesses of old, hospitals, mining towns, housing subdivisions, just to name a few.

We did frogs in middle school. I get so excited to see explores from CT! This was one of the best abandoned schools besides your old middle school that showed everything still intact. 26:17 - SPORTS - Before I moved to Texas my school in Oklahoma had every sport imaginable....those that I can remember are below. It now encompasses 40 square miles, 10 campuses, 12,000 students and has a budget of over $97 million. Sports when I was in school (decades ago):
    ° Baseball
    ° Basketball
    ° Cheerleading

I've been to several antique abandoned schools, just in my area. They were turned to 'charter schools'. All of them closed to do poor student performance, misbehavior and test grades. The average grade was a D. The proof is scattered all over the floor in paper work. You don't even want to know the demographics. When an entire school gets a D average, you know it's more than the teachers fault. Unfortunately students have poor role models today and no respect for the authority teaching them. Society is failing these kids.

I freakin’ love donkeys😻 I would love if my old school’s mascot was a donkey. They’re adorable. They’re intelligent. They’ve been amazing guards on farms for centuries. They’re “stubbornness” which is what donkeys are known for is actually the donkey thinking for itself refusing to do something that they don’t feel is safe. So again very smart animals. They’re very calm and don’t scare as easily as horses would. They’re very hard working and loyal. They symbolize humility and peace
So you have an intelligent, hard working humble animal that will fuck you up if you give it a reason to. Sounds like mascot material to me

I’d also be tip-toeing and whispering everywhere. Especially with someone like that in the building with you. He had things with him that could easily cut flesh. It’s like you had a horror movie villain in the building with you.

Movie actor Paul Newman directed a movie shot at this school “The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man In The Moon Marigolds”. My science fair project was used as a prop in that movie. I was also an extra in that movie (student assembly scene). They shot this movie during our week long spring vacation back in 1971. I attended this school from 1972-1976. I have good memories of high school days. It’s terrible that the city allowed the school to remain stocked, fall into disrepair and then vandalized. What a terrible waste… I’m glad that I left the city where I grew up… Bridgeport . I graduated on a Friday in June, 1976 and headed off to college out of state the very next day. If the city does this with their valuable resources, I made the right decision to leave.

Hey! So the jugs are actually part of many different backgrounds. I made one when I was in highschool. Apparently they’re made so adults could store alcohol and kids wouldn’t drink out of them because they were so scared. Another story is from people placing them on the deceaseds graves. They would leave them there for one year and if it broke, then it meant the deceased was wrestling with the d3vil.

Please tell us you carry mace and possibly a stun gun for these questionable moments when you run into people, just for safety ya know??!!
It broke my heart to see all the books and educational things left behind, there are organizations who would gladly repurpose it. I'm glad you did this explore regardless, it's an incredibly beautiful building!

I feel like they could have repurposed the desk & some of the other items you shown in the video. It’s crazy how they just left it all there. They could of had an auction or anything. I no I’m my town people are always looking for school desk for their homes.

This is such a cool school, with all of the old classes, shop, art. I would have loved this type of school. I am amazed that it closed, due to bad grades. It seems like it had a nice choice of classes. REAL TIME CLASSES.

The amount of money that goes into school are crazy and then they get abandoned. I personally think that if a school gets closed down, instead of abandoning it, they should turn it into apartments. And all the stuff that doesn't get used should be donated if able

Eastside High School in NJ would have shared Warren Harding High's fate had it not been for a strict teacher, the late Joe Clark. The classic 1980s movie, Lean On Me, was based on that.

i use to go to the newer one months ago, i just graduated from it actually in june, i never went to the old one but i guarantee that walking home from it was really creepy and gave a weird vibe, with the entrances boarded up but ppl were still able to slip in the property anyway its nice to see a video of my city and state once in awhile
