This building is so beautiful and bittersweet. So many memories happened there. She found the love of her life and obviously loved her kids. I hope that wherever the family is now, they are doing well and are happy.
Note!! DO NOT touch older taxidermy like that. Especially birds! The old ones are most often prepped with arsenic, which is the white powder you see in the video. Honestly if I were you I would have worn gloves and a dustmask when walking in places like that tbh. Anyway really cool place! And amazing to see things frozen in time like that! ❤️ Stay safe and explore!
Honestly it’s so preserved because Italy cares about the abandoned places there’s some sort of history to someone when they build it. Love you Josh keep up the work look forward to videos every Sunday.
Not really, this villa has been vandalized by urban explorers and other trespassers. The only reason it has been preserved UNTIL NOW is that it’s relatively “secluded” and because the neighbors call the carabinieri if they see strangers prowling around.
No. Italian is maybe the worst kind of vandal. They Stolen and destroy all. My Heart Is broken because none take care of this beautiful house Italian hystory association don't give a fuck if you tommorow decide to destroy It 😢😢😢😢😢😢
That's a small villlage/town; think you guys should've gone to nearby neighbors, the library, church, etc. and asked about this family and house history. I bet more than one person would've been knowledgeable about them or what happened. You guys could also research the return addresses on envelopes if there were any w/those letters. I did some digging 😊 One of you mentioned her first name (Yoshiko) and the WWII Ghibli anime, Graveyard Of Fireflies. I found one lady that worked on that film. Of every staff member the only one with "Yoshiko" is the woman who did the voice over for the mother. Her name is Yoshiko Shinohara. After 45 minutes and about 20-25 links and websites the ONLY info about her are 2 existing photos which looks identical to the older sons face in the calendar photo of the two boys you showed and even the toddler/baby pic you shared too. Also that she's 5'2, born Sept 10, 1948 in Osaka, Japan and is still alive. She would have been around 32 years old at the time you guys were finding dates in that house. She also did voice over work in another anime and appeared in a couple of shows but for only one episode each. She did five total movie/tv works and that's it. Zero info about her personal life or current whereabouts. There is one other woman with the same name that is definitely not her that's a famous 82 year old self made billionaire with no kids.
While the age is about right, that’s very likely a different person. Her japanese wiki page lists nearly 50 roles spanning from 1969 to 2009. Some of the roles are recurring characters in a series. It’s pretty packed so there’s no way she could live in Italy while having that many roles on japanese TV. I agree the best way to learn more about their family would be to talk with neighbours, especially elder ones.

@@keeliekalayidol8876 Hey, good news! I know who she is! So I watched the video of the guy with Josh since he mentioned he has visited before. In the comment section, people were able to translate the letters which was signed by a certain Tsuruta Chikako (she’s still alive!). From a quick internet search, she worked at Milan in the 80s and is a professional translator and financial analyst. She married in 1978 and has two children, so the timing matches. Dude I got such goose bumps when I heard him say Studio Ghibli and Grave of the Fireflies. This house and what happened to the family was sad and mysterious enough 😮
Amazing abandoned video, as always. You have such a way with words when you’re describing things, the absolute clear passion you have for this never gets old.
I hope the family simply went into hiding and was able to live a comfortable life. I can only imagine how scary and horrible it must have been for them, especially if her previous life with her ex husband was so abusive that not only divorcing but needing to flee with your kids and go into hiding was her only option to be free. Thats not a choice someone makes as their first option, thats a last resort when theres nothing left you can do that isnt just suffer through it. Thank you for being so respectful when you visit these places and being respectful of the stories and sometimes dark and depressing realities behind why these places sit abandoned and forgotten
Imagine all the time it took to carve all of that wood work within the house.. and to know it’s just been rotting since the 80’s. What a sad sight for the people who crafted it all.. & Watching the mix of cultures is stunning. Not only a time capsule but a capture into a mixed ethnicity household. French man, Japanese woman, in small town Italy. You see pieces of each one. Absolutely Stunning. Also I grew up with the same piece at 13:21 but mine had red paint and cherubs or women I can’t remember. Same rounded glass. Three glass shelves with a light at the top inside so it would shine on your collectibles. I haven’t seen anything like it in so long. Thank you for that
My gesses is the house belonged to Reiko Okuyama. She was one of the lead animators for Grave of the Fireflies. Also noted as one of the first female animators in Japan and one of the first to lead a feature film. She died in 2007 at the age of 70. She had a tv drama made about here in 2019 called Natsuzora.
@Ciara-uy5vy true its just a theory to begin with on top of another theory. we dont know if the clues they fine is real to begin with. But as Japanese culture is. And how it was back then. Oh I soo wish someone comments here that the family is okay .. maybe someone from the family.. this is such a pretty house to live in must’ve been something tragic that they had to leave
The fact that she fled from this amazing home and to leave everything behind goes to show the kind of family and past life she ran away from. Sad. I feel sorry for her and her children. I hope they found a better life free from their past. What a beautiful architecture home. I love this video, Josh and team❤
That banister with the lions head was beautiful. That crown molding around the ceilings was beautiful. It’s gotta be hard when your finances are exhausted, the loss of all that money slowly over time.

The absolute attitude you bring to every video. The excitement.. the respect you have for these discoveries is so nice. You’re a breath of fresh air man.
I think the information about the past is wrong. Some says that the Japanese woman worked at an Animation studio. But really couldn't find any information related to this mansion. A man who was a Yakuza (Japanese mafia) moved to Italy to this mansion. He fled due to caught up and brought his children with him (and I think wife). I hope this clears it up.
Title is misleading. Where was kidnapping if she willingly fled to be with her one true love? Sounds like she went over there for work & she met this Frenchman in Italy. Leaves her husband because he promised her & her kids (looked like girl & boy, not two boys) Mansion. Why didn't talk to neighbors or go to Town Hall for more information? Those letters seem totally planted. Come on. Too many questions & no answers. It's definitely unique style!
They're not planted at all those letters have been there by the family for years if anything it's other explorers who've been there that read them and they left them back over there everything's all legit and there's a lot of questions to ask I don't think the titles miss leading because the kids lived in Japan and they were taken by the mom period to go live in Italy. Or vice versa could have been the ex-husband who was technically still married that took the kids back no one really knows

Grave of the Fireflies (Japanese: 火垂るの墓, Hepburn: Hotaru no Haka) is a 1988 Japanese animated war drama film written and directed by Isao Takahata, and produced by Studio Ghibli. ~ In some cultures fireflies may not have a positive reputation. But in Japan, where they are called "hotaru," they are beloved - a metaphor for passionate love in poetry since Man'you-shu (the 8th century anthology). She mentioned on her letters, the japanese animated movie "Grave Fireflies". It's a very sad movie about two siblings at a Japanese war. Is the owner of the mansion happened to be working in Ghibli?

This was the most interesting abandoned places I’ve ever seen! It’s incredible how well preserved everything is! It’s absolutely beautiful! I hope the family is safe!
What a beautiful place. If I were local I'd want to explore the place & find all the photos & even the letters so i could digitally preserve them. Basically use a good camera to make a copy of them & then leave a card stating where you can download a copy online. Preferably while keeping my name out of it. I'd do it mainly for the family but also for other explorers. Then leave the originals where they are.
Thank you Josh for your awesome methods and messages of respectful exploring. I really enjoy watching these videos and the group of guys you work with. Thanks.
I was going to say I definitely see them. You just have to shop antique shops mostly. You're not going to find them in a goodwill or Walmart. I wish I could afford a few though. They're beautiful.
As a female animator, it is so cool to me that this old abandoned house tells the story about a female animator that worked in Ghibli! You will think this is silly, but I've never thought about this - for example, if you are a doctor, you will often find one abandoned house that belonged to a doctor, someone like you but from another time and it has a cool old story about them. But for me it's super rare, being a female animator is not as common, so watching a video about this fantastic abandoned mansion and learning that it belonged to her is fascinating and super cool.

Great episode, The hone is beautiful, the story is sad. Hope the family is well.
The Japanese culture is crazy with some things.
Thank you Josh for your awesome methods and messages of respectful exploring. I really enjoy watching these videos and the group of guys you work with. Thanks.
Been with you for 6 years..luv the vids
Means alot !!
Love your content as well as the lenght of them. Keep up the good work.
Very nice find! Ty for sharing❤
What a beautiful home. I'm glad it's not in the United States that place would be destroyed like usual disrespectful people.
I like how people there don't disgrace abandoned structures like they do here.
Amazing abandoned exploration Josh 🤘🏼❤️
Howzit Josh, new subscriber all the way from Cape town South Africa. Love your content bro

25:03 master bedroom
it would be surreal if one of the family members somehow stumbles upon this video.
Hey Josh, this mansion is absolutely beautiful. I love your exploration videos and enjoy watching from Houston, Texas. You be careful and take care.
Great episode Josh
31:54 that old picture is taken from a publication, such as a magazine or book.
There really was curved glass display cabinets in America. I see them all the time in antique hunts.
I was going to say I definitely see them. You just have to shop antique shops mostly. You're not going to find them in a goodwill or Walmart. I wish I could afford a few though. They're beautiful.
Such a cool abandoned find ❤thanks for all your hard work always Josh
Mind blowing . Thanks Josh
Awsome explore love the staircase very cool 😎🆒
Been a fan for years now. This is an amazing location!
What a beautiful place
Hope the family is happy wherever they are❤
Amazing as usual Josh cool place X 🔥🔥🤟🏻🔥🔥
As a female animator, it is so cool to me that this old abandoned house tells the story about a female animator that worked in Ghibli! You will think this is silly, but I've never thought about this - for example, if you are a doctor, you will often find one abandoned house that belonged to a doctor, someone like you but from another time and it has a cool old story about them. But for me it's super rare, being a female animator is not as common, so watching a video about this fantastic abandoned mansion and learning that it belonged to her is fascinating and super cool.
Josh you always have amazing videos love your videos and I share your video with my husband keep up the hard work.
i hope explorer not destroying any of the property.... like they said at vids
