I know in ancient Rome, hundreds of mausoleums lined some of the roads going in and out of Rome, and they were called necropolis, I do believe! Perhaps, as the people in question were obviously of the upper class, they likely had a classical education, meaning Roman history, and he could've taken inspiration from ancient Rome! Of course, without further information, I'm only speculating here!!

It seems someone drove all that way in the middle of nowhere to open two sardine cans and find nothing. As well as vandalize a heritage site. Some people are just special.

you'd think grave robbers would be all business, jump in, see if there's anything of value, jump out. For some reason though it always seems like they go out of their way to do as much damage as possible for no particular reason other than spite.

Another explanation could be that the skeleton is on the floor after the robbers searched the body and we cannot see it. Or, the McKenna family reburied them elsewhere after grave robbers ransacked their coffins.
