  • If you use a crash journal, I can guarantee that you will start to feel WAY LESS bored in your life! It took me ages to figure out that the reason I was so sad, overwhelmed and lonely was because I wasn't enjoying my day-to-day life. After all, how you spend your days is how you spend your life. However, since I have started to use my crash journal, i have finally started to feel happy and enjoy my life again.
    The best part is that this is the easiest method for beginners who want to start journalling. Or, if you are a pro at journalling, later in the video, I give you some tips and secrets of how you can level up your journal and take it to the next level.
    So, in this video I give you a three step tutorial on how to start crash journalling. This is the best method for beginners and will help you to maximise your daily productivity.
    Best,
    Olly :)

    I begun a "did do" journal. This journal I fill with things that I did do, not stuff to do. I know what I have to do, so to do lists bore me. But when I sit down to list all the stuff I DID DO, my brain feels pretty happy. To make my brain even more happy, I created a score system in which I highlight my healthy choices, brushing teeth, putting sunscreen on, reading, working out, so on. And I have scores for them. At the end of the day, I highlight my healthy choices and add up my score for the day! Sometimes I get a new high score. And sometimes in the evening I feel pressure to raise my score so I'll quickly go take my supplements or I'll brush my teeth just to get a few more points.

      Yeah I've tried (physical) journaling, and mixing it with to-do lists, but my biggest success with that have been digital apps. On the other hand, journaling on those digital apps just doesn't really feel meaningful to me. I was watching this video because I'm thinking of continuing to use digital apps to manage and schedule tasks and even projects, and use a physical journal to log the things that I did that actually made my life better. I have a lot of tasks that I kind of have to do for work and stuff, but there will be some that I actually enjoyed doing or I felt were actually important, and I can just log these highlights in the journal. I feel like I may be able to leverage the best of both worlds like this, but I will only be sure after I have implemented this for a while

      That sounds like such a cool idea! Would you mind elaborating a little more? How do you decide what task gets which score? How many points are the max?

      I realize I’ve been doing the same thing! Instead of putting my to do list in my journal, I place it on a whiteboard as 3 lists of need to do/should do/would do. Then at night I write in my journal an “accomplishment list” ❤️

    • @ric6611
      @ric6611 5 дней назад +2

      Just an update, I'm enjoying the system I talked about so far (which is similar to the original comment, but no scores -- I didn't want to start with something complex, maybe with time I add to my system). I still schedule and keep track of my tasks in digital apps, but in my journal I log the things that I liked about the day, whatever I found particularly interesting, or what I could've done better in case something didn't go as planned.
      I had a real problem with going to bed at the end of the day before. I laid in bed feeling like I didn't accomplish much, and it made it harder for me to fall asleep. I may have felt busy the whole day but couldn't really think of anything to show for it. This journaling system actually makes me sleep better and feel satisfied with the day because I can know for sure if I actually accomplished something. There was even a day where journaling made me realize I didn't do anything particularly fulfilling, but being aware of it still made it not feel as bad about it. As I said earlier, when I point out something negative I try to think of a way to improve it next time, so I made some plans for the day after to make up for it. Logging the positives feels good, and if you think of a way to improve the negatives, they sting a lot less or don't even sting at all because at least you turned the negative into a small tip for improvement.
      Little disclaimer, this is just less than a week of trying this, but I see myself continuing it in the near future. I genuinely enjoy writing about my day before going to bed (but it's not the only time I do it).

    I use it for the same purpose. As the first or second generation of the middle class in the 21st century we have no idea what to do with our lives, we don't want to dedicate ourselves entirely to work or having a family, but what is there besides that? It is an individual search. Each person has to find a way to make sense of this nonsense. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, it's just the way it is. I found a lot of satisfaction in starting a second career at 29 years old. It's literary studies, what does it mean? It is useless, the only thing it is useful for is to enjoy reading and learning. And if in the future I can dedicate myself to something that escapes the logic of production I will continue to be happy lol

    • @ollystaniland
      @ollystaniland  Месяц назад

      That is such a good point! How are we supposed to find what we want to do with our life when there are so many options but at the same time so few that feel meaningful to pursue. I like the idea of an 'individual search'. Paradoxically, the way we find out the most about ourselves is by interacting with other people and finding out things about ourselves, only when another person reveals those things. Hopefully if you are enjoying the Literary Studies course, you can find meaning in the happiness of that and worry about the logistics later haha. Hope you're having a great day and welcome to the channel :)

      Wow, you have perfectly said everything I feel in a couple of short sentences. I couldn't agree with you more. You know, the funniest thing is that we think it is the big monumental decisions and actions that we presume have the biggest impact on us like changing careers or moving countries. Actually, I have found that it is the small things like choosing to stay an extra five minutes in a coffee shop and bumping into your future best friend. This is what life is about!!!! Never stop chasing those little things :)

    Going through the past month to see what life goals you worked towards is a great idea. I'm trying to find a balance in my life after not taking a break for so long and while I'm getting better at some things, I also notice I forget to keep up with contacts while focusing so much on my other self-care goals.
