the problem is that one of the greatest strength of NieR is how it manages to convey its story with its game. The storytelling in NieR can only be achieved through a video game, I don't see how you could make a movie with this. Nier: Automata is my first Yoko Taro game so this video and others you make explaining the lore are educational af. I like knowing about the lore of video games that I like, so keep up the amazing work, sis.
Just played through Emil's quest on Automata and that line "because this is the world my friend tried to save!" really stuck with me. Throughout this whole time did Emil never find out that it was in fact his friend who brought about the extinction of the remaining humans?
Nier might did in wacky accidental means, but the one who break legs and limbs to keep protecting the now broken world is Kaine so what Emil is doing is continuing Kaine's legacy albeit he is now only a small shard of the original Emil we met in Replicant.
I’ve played both Niers. Emil was the most precious boy ever until I brought him to his “sister”. I was very upset when he turned to his sisters form. But I was glad Emil never changed his personality. I cried when he sacrificed himself for Kiané and the others. It was the first time I’ve seen Kiané try to run back and get them. Emil is my world time favorite until the end.
I already knew the story of Emil, but I can't help crying when I see this video... Damn you Yoko Taro, you heartless monster. And thank you Valkyrie for the video.
little SPOILER for NieR:Automata ahead After stealing from Emil's chest and after the battle with him in the cave (witch was total chaos), after his "I don't mind" I did kind of felt bad :-/
Emil is such a precious cinnabun that must be protecc. He might be a super weapon, but that doesn't matter. The only problem is he's alone and has no one to protecc him like he deserves. My poor little ball boi; I hope you rest in peace and that the other clones and the original, if he's still alive, can get something to cling onto, even if life is horrible for them. Glad that the Emil clone found his reason, right at the end. Wandering aimlessly with no reason is a very frightening way to live.
man this character is so so good, one of my favorite characters of all time it's just brilliant the amount of emotions I get whenever I think of his story. Just think, Emil has gone through the same cycle of cloning, fighting, and then dying over and over again, and just when the one clone regains the memories of his old friends he dies meaning the cycle will continue on.... so tragic
Reminds me Vaati's Prepare to cry series. Very well done video, hope to see more in the future. I'm starting to like the lore of this game very intriguing.
I just love how the Lore in NeiR series embodies the theme of philosophy in it and how the machines and androids are faced against existential issues, Emil is by far my favorite character (as well as the philosopher he inherits his name from Emil M. Cioran). This is a great video, thank you for sharing.
Thanks so much for creating this story for Emil! It's so sad but touching at the end when I finally understands what it means to them when one of the clones cried out how they should not give up. I thought it sounded so easy for someone who doesn't understand to say things like that but now i can feel the hardship and the courage to continue fighting.
Im so glad your brought this back. I watched your vids in highschool and you were a very calming figure. I knew that if i saw your vids i would be delighted for atleast the next half hour. Thank you!
Thank you for this video!! Although I haven't played any of the NieR/Drag-on Dragoon (Drackengard) series, I have watched the playthroughs of them. And Emil is also certainly one of my favorite characters from the franchise. Emil is such a cinnamon roll... He needs more love and his smile must be protected!!
Humanity was pretty desperate since a god from another dimension was subjugating and killing their kind, Experiments with adults yielded too little fruit while children had generally more favorable outcomes.
Who knows. Maybe because children have developmental minds and bodies that heal faster and can learn differently than adults do. Or maybe because Yoko Taro...
I never got to play those older games but your videos have helped me understand it more. I'm near fighting Emil now and wondered how far his story went and I'm really impressed. Thank you for making these.
It should be illegal for a beautiful and cute voice like yours to talk about something as sad and heartbreaking as Emil's lore... That's just too much for me ;-;
Emil is one of my favorite characters. I'm not really sure why. It's especially after he turns in the moon-face always smiling skeleton. The way Kainé en Emil interact is really touching too. And creating copies to protect his memories and places... Most people I know fiend Emil after the transformation quite creepy, but I find him pretty adorable. Like Halua; It's not scary, it's just silly.
From the very first day I played Nier, to this very day, Emil's had, has, and will always have, a special place in my heart. Such a selfless and pure soul but his story is pure horror and sadness. Breaks my heart every damn time when I hear "Emil's sacrifice". The feels ! Thank you Aurora for your videos ! ^^
That is one sad story if I've ever seen one. Also your vids are really good and your narrative makes the plot really easy to understand thank a lot. Keep up the amazing work.
I was finally able to get NieR Automata yesterday, when I saw Emil driving super fast singing this stupid song, I couldn't help but be so happy...but I know what his future will be... WHY MUST OUR PRECIOUS BABY ALWAYS SUFFER
Marked One OH SHIT! You are so right. All these references man, Emil himself being in Automata, the Grimoire skin for pod, 2Bs costume and probably more which I've missed.
a a it actually may not be a reference but a memory Reason i say this is because i have a few reasons to think that emil maybe the reason behind: the tower forming and the white city underground, the machines seemingly becoming human and adam and eve coming to life It all started when i went to the amusement park as a2 after finishing route b I was curious about the zombie machines and how they "ate" as we saw when they attacked the resistance camp It says they can't eat because there's no way there metal mouths can shut and i cant see how there circuitries could eat for them either I then got up behind the machine with my camera angle in front of it to get a close look at its mouth to see what was underneath it And what i saw was teeth... more specifically the exact same design and shape of emils teeth and mouth I then realized that the emil we see pops out of the head of a machine I started wondering if one of the emil copies was the reason behind the tower, the white city underground, the machines becoming Sentient and the creation of adam and eve Idk if anything was confirmed about any of this or if any of it was even discovered but ive yet to find anything about it also i only found 1 machine with a mouth because I've only checked one but the machines that attack the resistance seemed to have some sort of head or something under the mouths during the cutscene except there black The one i specifically checked was outside of the amusement park entrance that stands still
Thank you for making this video. I don't know much about the story of Nier. I only know Nier Automota so to see and hear more about Emil, who I fell in love with along side 2b and 9s, opens my eyes even more. I found his story sad in Nier Automata and this just takes the cake. I often wondered about him but never thought he was actually human first. Btw I noticed that his story is very similar to the anime Black Butler, well as it relates to the eye, his butler Sebastian and his name. The irony is I just got back into watching the anime and it felt so surreal to hear you mention it in this fashion. Thanks again!
Thanks, I was wondering how Emil survived up until Automata. I thought the one you run into was the original, but it was only a copy :( Poor dude, he was the heart of the team in the first Nier
it is him and it isnt him. it isnt that the origional is dead its that he was lost as pieces of himself were taken to create the clones basically its not that it isnt origional emil its tha its 1/6,000,000nth of the original emil.
Thank you for this Video. Emil is also one of my favourite Videogame Characters of all time and I´m still crying like a child at the scene of Nier where he sacrifices himself. He´s such an interesting Character and his Story is realy fascinating. Again, thank you for this Video it is great to see a good Story Video of this awesome Character.
Such a powerful character... I remember watching him sacrifice himself in neir.. all I could do was sit there with my mouth open speechless as a tear rolled down my face... a feeling I havent felt since till 9's impaled himself on a2s sword and was screaming in despair and frustration. The feeling I felt was soul crushing sadness and pity.. god damn this game tugged on the strings of my heart.
Okay but this is the most absurd and emotional lore I have ever listened to.... I can't explain the feeling I have but.... but nothing.. it just makes me regret coming to this world.. it makes it seem like everythimg is meaningless- NOTHING has made me feel so much emotion other than any of yako taro's games.
Thank you for this. Makes me happy knowing someone is going in depth on Nier and it's lore. It is such an amazing game and it deserves the love. Subscribed! PS. I really just want to give Emil a hug.
This video was more than interesting, it was touching. Earlier today I met with Emil and knew there was something more to him but for it to be this....I cant wait to fight him for he shall know rest
I have never played nier:automata but was interested in this emil character and this video explained it in a really good and fun to watch way. good job!
Damn tough life, I started the series in Nier automata and have played 24 hours already in just a week and a half almost, I really really love the game and think that these things that connect the current Nier automata to the previous Nier game seem pretty interesting
Only played automota and the emil quest, never touched the other nier games, but watched your vid on drakengard to nier lore and this, strikes hard in the feels, and i thought automota was bad enough
Well, I've never played any of the nier games but given the summary provided in this video I have to say Emil is now one of my favourite characters, right up their with Joel and Ellie from the last of us, the doom slayer from doom and colonel Schaefer from 40k
I just really like how your voice calming yet the subject is making me depressed, thank you soooooo much i hope keep on, you're my favourite RUclipsr ❤❤
Man your videos are great. I loved Automata but I've never properly played the old Nier, so I love that you've put together these stories in a succint but understandable way. You're pretty good at it! When you mentioned Devola and Popola I was surprised, I didn't know they were in the original. Do you end up fighting the D&P models that caused humanity's extinction? I'd be super interested if you did a video on them, too. Their story in Automata was pretty interesting.
SPOILERS Devola and Popola didn't cause humanities extinction, you did. Nier (the character) from the first Nier game killed the one person who could've saved humanity, it'd take too long to explain so I'd suggest watching finding Valkyrie's or Clemps' videos on it. The Devola and Popola from the first game were blamed for humanities loss because they couldn't stop you from getting to the final boss of the game. of course, throughout the game you didn't know that and you were just on a mad quest to save your daughter/sister (depending on which version of the game you played)
Devola and Popola of Nier: Gestalt/RepliCant didn't inadvertently cause humanity's extinction. They were defeated by the Shadowlord's Gestalt in his quest to save Yonah. Truly, it was the Gestalt of the Shadowlord who ended humanity by slaying the Shadowlord, and any hope of Humanity's resurrection. Devola and Popola models are punished for a crime they never even committed and that just makes ya think.
+Derr Mann Yes, they are punished by that crime because... wink wink ... nier is gone, from the memories of everyone in the world, and so ... no one remember that he was the one that killed him, and so they turn to the ones that were supposed to protect him, and because they died in the middle of a insane frenzy (dunno how people got word of that tho) people assumed that in that frenzy they killed him , and them killed themselves, or they mutually killed each other in the middle of that "battle"...
Didn't know there were more games.. I came here after beating A2's story. Time to play the rest of these games. Great story telling though, this is something i wanted to do on my own channel instead of just games. You got a sub.
Man, you know your stuff! Just want to say that your videos are super excellent, and have definitely helped me fill in some gaps with this series. This particular one time between the two games. Automata was my entry point, just finished the first Nier and planning to go through Drakengard 1 & 3, and man is this series so damn fascinating. Anyway yeah, just wanted to say your videos are awesome - can't wait to come back and watch the Drakengard related ones when I'm finished those ones! (No spoilers of course, want to go in as fresh as possible xD)
"Because this is the world my friend try to save!" Is he referring to Nier, because as far as I know, he doomed mankind to extinction. Well, considering what happens in Y ending, it makes sense. XD Morale of the story: if you are in a Yoko Taro game and something thells you it wants to save the world, KILL IT!
But even so all of this is wrong...no matter how hard or how painful..they kept fighting because they believed they could overcome someday... ISN'T THAT RIGHT KANIÉ 😢😢😢
I feel like Emil forms the strongest and most easy to understand link between the original Nier and Nier: Automata. His existence makes it more 'real' that both these games play in the same word, even though the rest of the world is so extremely changed. ...also I really hope he'll show up in the Nier: Automata questline present in FFXIV ^^
this pain!! this sadness!!! THIS DESPERSTION!!!!!! YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!! this game deservet the GOTY they put alot of effort in Automata even whit not that much money, thx for the video is so sad sweet....

IGotDiabeetus yeaah it is. one of the most memorable experiences i've had with videogames... and i've been around since the NES ;-)
Roeland same happens to me as well!! It's a wonderfull game in all senses, top 3 of all time for sure :p
I beat it 4 months ago and I still think about it
Now it's been one year since I beat it, still thinking about different aspects of it almost every day. How about you?
Nier: Automata is my first Yoko Taro game so this video and others you make explaining the lore are educational af. I like knowing about the lore of video games that I like, so keep up the amazing work, sis.
Poor Emil, struggling all his life, i love him, he's a tragic hero.
The way his quest pays off in NieR Automata is absolutely billiant and heart shattering.
Emil :'( you did a really good job summing up one of the most tragic character stories into 11~ minutes!
And thank you Valkyrie for the video.
little SPOILER for NieR:Automata ahead
After stealing from Emil's chest and after the battle with him in the cave (witch was total chaos), after his "I don't mind" I did kind of felt bad :-/
You will feel even WORSE after you battle him the second time.
Just did it yesterday... poor soul :-/
I'm not crying, you're crying :,(
Emil is such a precious cinnabun that must be protecc.
Jacob Arellano o
You would think that the scientist weren't stupid enough to put children consciousness into a super weapon
Humanity was pretty desperate since a god from another dimension was subjugating and killing their kind, Experiments with adults yielded too little fruit while children had generally more favorable outcomes.
yeah I forgot about that. I wonder why kids had better results though.
It is possible that because they were still growing so they could ,,evolve" more.
Who knows. Maybe because children have developmental minds and bodies that heal faster and can learn differently than adults do. Or maybe because Yoko Taro...
It's just like Spartan-II Project in Halo. Only 1/3 of the kids survived till the end, the result was ultimate soldiers.
I never got to play those older games but your videos have helped me understand it more. I'm near fighting Emil now and wondered how far his story went and I'm really impressed. Thank you for making these.
It should be illegal for a beautiful and cute voice like yours to talk about something as sad and heartbreaking as Emil's lore...
That's just too much for me ;-;
Emil is one of my favorite characters.
Great video!! You have one of the best narration voices imo
Emil - losing himself in eternity, all alone, doomed to suffer.
As someone who hasn't played NieR: Is the library at 7:18 the same library as the one you visit in the Tower in Automata?
yes it is :)
Marked One OH SHIT! You are so right. All these references man, Emil himself being in Automata, the Grimoire skin for pod, 2Bs costume and probably more which I've missed.
a a it actually may not be a reference but a memory
Reason i say this is because i have a few reasons to think that emil maybe the reason behind: the tower forming and the white city underground, the machines seemingly becoming human and adam and eve coming to life
It all started when i went to the amusement park as a2 after finishing route b
I was curious about the zombie machines and how they "ate" as we saw when they attacked the resistance camp
It says they can't eat because there's no way there metal mouths can shut and i cant see how there circuitries could eat for them either
I then got up behind the machine with my camera angle in front of it to get a close look at its mouth to see what was underneath it
And what i saw was teeth... more specifically the exact same design and shape of emils teeth and mouth
I then realized that the emil we see pops out of the head of a machine
I started wondering if one of the emil copies was the reason behind the tower, the white city underground, the machines becoming Sentient and the creation of adam and eve
Idk if anything was confirmed about any of this or if any of it was even discovered but ive yet to find anything about it
also i only found 1 machine with a mouth because I've only checked one but the machines that attack the resistance seemed to have some sort of head or something under the mouths during the cutscene except there black
The one i specifically checked was outside of the amusement park entrance that stands still
Thank you for making this video.
I got chills while watching the video, thank you so for making this
Thanks, I was wondering how Emil survived up until Automata. I thought the one you run into was the original, but it was only a copy :(
Poor dude, he was the heart of the team in the first Nier
it is him and it isnt him. it isnt that the origional is dead its that he was lost as pieces of himself were taken to create the clones basically its not that it isnt origional emil its tha its 1/6,000,000nth of the original emil.
david ervin
It actually was the original, for what it's worth.
yoko taro has explicitly said that the Original emil is still alive... Also that the clones are creating more of themselves again.
@@CM-hx5dp I want Emil to be the next protagonist if there's gonna be a future game of the series.
It hurt sooooo much when you see Lunar Tears in Automata. That took a plunge into my heart. 😭
Emil's boss fight in Automata is so sad I just let his clones blow up Earth.
Okay but this is the most absurd and emotional lore I have ever listened to.... I can't explain the feeling I have but.... but nothing.. it just makes me regret coming to this world.. it makes it seem like everythimg is meaningless-
NOTHING has made me feel so much emotion other than any of yako taro's games.
Loved the video, and now understand Nier: Automata connection to Nier and where Emil stands; Emil really ties the two games together. Thank you.
This video shed a lot of light on Emil! TY so much!
I am left speechless. Left unable to conjure the proper words to express simply how magnificent this was to experience.
Thank you for this. Makes me happy knowing someone is going in depth on Nier and it's lore. It is such an amazing game and it deserves the love. Subscribed!
PS. I really just want to give Emil a hug.
Thank you very much, emil is my favority character from nier since 2014
This video was more than interesting, it was touching. Earlier today I met with Emil and knew there was something more to him but for it to be this....I cant wait to fight him for he shall know rest
I have never played nier:automata but was interested in this emil character and this video explained it in a really good and fun to watch way. good job!
Nier: Automata tutorial on how to make a lot of money: Go to Emil's hideout. The end.
your welcome and man his story filled me in so much! ty so much
My real name is Emil and you uploaded this one day before my birthday, so close!
Your voice sounds amazing, and thank you for making me aware of Emil's story
I'm surprised as to how much you actually know about Emil and thank you sooo much for sharing that information with us!
Damn tough life, I started the series in Nier automata and have played 24 hours already in just a week and a half almost, I really really love the game and think that these things that connect the current Nier automata to the previous Nier game seem pretty interesting
24 hours in a week and a half isn't extreme. I finished Persona 5 at 85 hours in a week
Great video, ans btw your "mumbling" is super clear and pleasant, you have a really nice voice!
wow this is the best explanation so far.
Only played automota and the emil quest, never touched the other nier games, but watched your vid on drakengard to nier lore and this, strikes hard in the feels, and i thought automota was bad enough
when "Emil's Sacrifice" kicks in ;__________________;
Well, I've never played any of the nier games but given the summary provided in this video I have to say Emil is now one of my favourite characters, right up their with Joel and Ellie from the last of us, the doom slayer from doom and colonel Schaefer from 40k
I just really like how your voice calming yet the subject is making me depressed, thank you soooooo much i hope keep on, you're my favourite RUclipsr ❤❤
your voice sounds so calm. and yes, this video really helps me a lot to try understanding this awesome series
Emil has the worst fate in this series ever..eternal life indeed
oh how i cried watching this... wonderful video thank you for all your hard work
Love this vid, thank you so much for making it!
SPOILERS
Devola and Popola didn't cause humanities extinction, you did.
Derr Mann Isn't the Shadowlord the Gestalt and Nier the Replicant?
This is honestly such an amazing universe.
Pressing on her eye seems like yet another redeye reference in this series
Lovely, just lovely. Looking forward to more content like this.
Didn't know there were more games.. I came here after beating A2's story. Time to play the rest of these games. Great story telling though, this is something i wanted to do on my own channel instead of just games. You got a sub.
Came back to this to refresh on his story after finally completing Ending Y and his boss battle twice.....
And now I'm crying all over again
Man, you know your stuff! Just want to say that your videos are super excellent, and have definitely helped me fill in some gaps with this series. This particular one time between the two games. Automata was my entry point, just finished the first Nier and planning to go through Drakengard 1 & 3, and man is this series so damn fascinating. Anyway yeah, just wanted to say your videos are awesome - can't wait to come back and watch the Drakengard related ones when I'm finished those ones! (No spoilers of course, want to go in as fresh as possible xD)
Thank you for making this video
Emil is my favorite character of all time. I just wanna give the poor boy a hug.
I believe that the unit data entry for the Emil clones in Autamata stated that the one that the player first encountered was the original.
But he believes he isn't wow kinda sad that you don't even know you are you
your voice is so calming and nice, I listen to each video like 20 times.....
I like your voice and tone. It compliments stuff like this. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for clearing most of that up. I was new to the series and incredibly confused.
"Because this is the world my friend try to save!"
Is he referring to Nier, because as far as I know, he doomed mankind to extinction.
Well, considering what happens in Y ending, it makes sense. XD
Morale of the story: if you are in a Yoko Taro game and something thells you it wants to save the world, KILL IT!
TRIED was the key word here.
I had so many questions about Emil and you answered them all with this beautiful and brilliant video. Thank you so much!!!
But even so all of this is wrong...no matter how hard or how painful..they kept fighting because they believed they could overcome someday... ISN'T THAT RIGHT KANIÉ 😢😢😢
unknown 4412 I wonder why he says isn’t that right Kainé as if she’s there
I feel like Emil forms the strongest and most easy to understand link between the original Nier and Nier: Automata.
His existence makes it more 'real' that both these games play in the same word, even though the rest of the world is so extremely changed.
...also I really hope he'll show up in the Nier: Automata questline present in FFXIV ^^
I love Emil character. He's so precious and his story is so sad ;__;
this pain!!
this sadness!!!
THIS DESPERSTION!!!!!!
YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!
this game deservet the GOTY they put alot of effort in Automata even whit not that much money, thx for the video is so sad sweet....
Accelerator vote for its narrative and music !
couldn express how much likes i wanted to give for this vid !
Really appreciate that telling us how emil is ....
Thank you for doing this, and the other videos about nier. It really helped me understand all the backstory i was not aware of.
We need to protect his smile, laddies
JenkinsHTTK show me what you got!
