- Is it possible to race a Chinese Dirt bike vs a full field of modern Austrian and Japanese race machines? We've come to the races armed with the Slam SMX250 (from China) and the Brand new 2025 GasGas MC250F to find out...oh and we'll be flipping a coin to decide who rides which bike all day long! lol This has to be one of the most fun motocross videos we've ever made, we hope you guys enjoying watching as much as we enjoyed filming :-D

haha thanks, too much time behind the camera and not enough on the bike... but I'm doing my best to change that :)
Truthfully, not having gobs of down low torque allows you to ride the bike higher in the revs longer without it washing the backend out as easily. I would gander to say that if you did some playing around with the chain wheels you could find a combo that would give that bike a bit more grunt without sacrificing too much of the topend allowing it to be slightly more competitive out the gate. Good show Sean.

How about a video of mod's to make the Slam as close to race worthy as possible ??? (The cheapest way possible) good challenge for you super smart guys and it might make it easier for people on a small budget to get into the sport !!! win-win-win I think.

More importantly, It's just not worth buying a Chinese bike and modifying it. Youll lose Any money in parts you put into it, thats if someone else would even be willing to buy a used Chinese bike.
You can buy a 1995 to 2010 mx bike for the same price and those would be more capable. Plus, youd be able to sell it.
why the fuck would anyone that wants a quality bike buy a piece of shit chinese scooter when you can get a nice 2012 ktm for like $3500 or less
Fair play Sean, shows your fitness level. 2 classes and going back to the slam from the gasgas must've felt heart braking, so much harder work to ride the slam, so to come away with a 2nd and 1st given what you're up against is insane. Cracking riding

Im just amazed that a chinese quality bike lasted through the day and did well! I fully was waiting for it to blow up in a moto.
These new Chinese bikes copy older Honda air cooled engines that lost their patents is what I heard, so they’re kind of decent

@nathanharris1445 nah. They're good. They're copies of 2013 ktm/Husqvarna frames woth Honda cf250 cloned engines. I've seen them woth 35,000 plus miles and still kicking ass. I have a templar x 250cc. I've done a lot of mods to it. It will rip it to 80mph. Shifts really smooth..

Although the Slam Bike is fairly cheap with a few years R&D in the race scene I wouldn't be surprised if they were able to turn out a competitive race bike at a budget price point which can only be a good thing bringing in more racers who would have otherwise been priced out of racing. (Not a MX person so I may be completely wrong)
Neat video on a cost effective bike. You should do a pit bike super mini shootout, honda crf125, kawasaki klx140, yamaha ttr125, suzuki drz125, SSR 189, YCF 190 Bigy, Kayo 140, Buscadero, and something "amazon special". Make it a Japanese VS the world type shootout

Respring the Chinese bike with a Rr 5.4-5.8 Kg and front springs at .48-.52 Kg, and a lil revalve and then see what it can do with 18hp. The get one of the TM38's with the 298cc watercooled bike with 30-32hp. Same frame and plastics, better stuff, for $3000. Or go to aj1 and get one of their bikes at $4-$5 with even better stuff. There are some 2 strokes out now too that RIP!!! SSR, GPX, and KAYO, and a few other come to mind. The quality of these is outstanding. And the 2 BIG engine mfg companies are good. ZONGSHEN builds BEAST motors. I have 2. And a full replacement motor is inexpensive.

I'd have more fun riding the $2000 bike, and in fact buy two or three ( for immediate extra parts,)and take the remaining $14,000 and ride one to the southernmost tip of south America on a real adventure with the money saved. but that's just me. I don't need to chase others around any more to prove who has the "best" or "fastest bike" I just seek real adventures with more meaning. Full disclosure, I live in SE Asia half of each year and see Chinese bikes riding adventure and enduro all the time .. on a fraction of the budget.
That GPS doodad sounds pretty cool. I don’t know all the functionality but it would be wild if it could vary the engine mapping throughout the lap, so if there’s a sand section or a deep mud spot it could adjust for that area and then go back to normal for the rest of the track.

Wow you did really well on that gasgas and surprising to see sean do so well on that chinese bike. I guess it really is 90% rider and 10% bike. Thats impressive. Im in a similar position phyically not in the best shape to race but i really do wanna get back into it. Its too much fun, that looked like a blast. I love these videos

Man Max I would love to see you Guys do this with aGPX FSE250 or a Kayo K6-R 250 Hell Even a Kove MX 250 all of them are so much more capable than that Slam....No matter what you guys proved that a decent China bike is capable and that riding ability trumps bike in the Amateur level. The Rider really determines the speed of the Machine, but there's a Cap of Rider ability on a sub par Machine.. 😢

Have you tried any other Chinese bikes? The Slam seems worth the money for someone on a budget, but there are no dealers in the US. Most Chinese bikes I've seen here won't take any serious riding and keep running.
no this is the only one we've tried, we've asked a few of the manufacturers of the higher spec ones (Kove, Koshine,etc) but they don't seem to want to play with us at the moment
What race class did you guys race against to pass everyone on the track so quickly? Beginner novice first timers class?😂😂
You guys should do the same thing except you should use the ssr 300
Is that a typical MX track? I'm not being negative, just curious, as a lot of that is what our harescramble grass sections look like. I think it looks fun, personally!
BTW, the 223cc 250's with 16hp shift REALLY rough and notchy, refusing to shift on the gas. It's almost like its not constant mesh. The 249cc 250's shift better with both a 5 speed uncounter balanced motor,.. and a 6 speed counter-balanced motor. X-PRO TEMPLAR X has the 6 sp AND adjustable suspension. $2000. The others do not. SHOP! Make comparisons.

What would be cool and I know a lot of people and parents. Have asked me can you take a Chinese bike put 3 to 5 grand into the thing and have a solid race bike. At first I laughed and said no then I personally road and xpro 250 it runs an older ktm frame the motor is one of the old honda 250 air coold clomes. After the ride, my answer turned to yes. But would make for a cool video to see if you can make a legit A class bike with a little money. Thanks GHOST 777

Funny but I would rather see how the cheap bike compares with the Honda/Kawasaki/Yamaha air cooled 230-250's. Comparing it to a KTM/Husky?Gasgas/Beta/Sherco is not very interesting to me.
