  • In today's video, you join me in the Elan Valley - One of my favorite places in Wales - where I am again playing with my Fuji 10-24mm XF Lens for some landscape photography shots.
I'll be exploring the area in search of some shots that I've wanted to try for some time but, without the wide-angle lens, I was unable to.
The Fuji 10-24mm XF Lens has an impressive focal range that covers a wide-angle 10mm all the way up to 24mm. It's perfect for landscape photography on APSC cameras and covers an equivalent focal distance of 15-36mm on a full-frame camera.
Imagine being able to photograph landscapes like these with ease and accuracy. That's what I'm hoping to achieve today as I journey through one of Wales' most outstanding locations.

Excellent words on anxiety issues Steve. As for a solution I don't think there'll ever be a one fix for all, but the keep on taking the photos, and keeping on going out, will definitely do a lot of good. Whatever anxiety we may be feeling at the time, we can get lost in the moment of finding that shot, finding that wonderful composition, and as you said in the video about new kit, trying new things :)

It really was a revelation when I started going out again, how much lockdown had affected me mentally. Good mental health is incredibly important and photography (which, when stuck inside had become something of a burden) was suddenly a route to feeling better. I’m incredibly thankful for that.

Another good video, thank you. I love the Elan Valley, I’ve cycled around it’s many lanes, but would love to return with proper camera. Mental health is such an important issue to discuss freely and without negativity, I definitely found getting out and about in nature photographing wildlife kept my spirits up during the last 18 months. So much joy and relaxation in the simple things, walking, listening, smelling.

You’re right, the simple things can bring so much joy and we should do our best to make time for them :)
I’m really glad you enjoyed the video 😊

Hi Steve. What a fantastic video. I love visiting the Elan Valley. There is so much to see and especially when you go during all the different seasons. The Pandemic put a halt to many things, including the Craft Fairs at the Visitor Centre. I live in Hereford and my partner Alison and I work with resins. I am primarily a sculptor, but also paint and draw. I also like to take photographs when we do the Craft Fairs. It is so inspirational. I use Canon equipment and the widest lens I have is the 17-40mm. I can just imagine how good it would be to have a wider angled lens sometimes. With the Canon, I have Full Frame. With an APSC camera, does that alter the 10mm end? It was great to hear you talking about anxiety. I have never suffered with it, but can fully understand what you are saying. The photo at the end of the video was wonderful. Looking forward to seeing more images with the new lens. 😊

Like you, I’ve had several things halted because of the pandemic and it’s great to be able to change that a little now.
Yes, Michael was right, the 10mm is equivalent to a 15mm on full frame. I tend to shoot at 18mm which is a 27mm equivalent.
The fact is, of course, by the time you start buying lenses, you don’t worry about the crop factor, just the sort of lens you need for a job.
I’m really thrilled you liked the video and the images. I’m particularly pleased with that last one.
Thanks ever so much for commenting. I hope you’ll stick around and watch more videos :)

Great video Steve; Elan Valley looks stunning (except for all those biting insects!). I think the pandemic and several lockdowns has affected most people in different ways. I was furloughed from work for 3 months twice and I was anxious about returning to work in a city centre with lots of people about-and it's like starting a new job all over again. I also didn't go out with my camera as much either as you can start to feel depleted at times. I have starting doing some art now and playing my guitar more so that helps. I believe doctors & scientists are now realising the benefits of nature and green spaces and prescribing it to patients with anxiety.

I think, if you can go out more, you do get some amazing benefits from it. I can understand why people are still hesitant but the sooner we start doing these things, the sooner we can start to heal. And, of course, you don’t need to be around people to be outside.
And yes, Elan is lovely at most times of the year.

Great video Steve and from a Welshman I'm embarrassed to say I've never been there. Have just had my XS10 and the 18 to 55 kit lens waiting for the 50 to 230 due this week. Cost me £248 on a price match tried out the XS10 today at Cenarth Falls near Carmarthen tried a variety of modes photos look fine only shooting jpeg atm until I feel confident enough to branch out to RAW

Excellent, really hope you enjoy the camera. I promise, when you make that jump to Raw, you won’t want to go back :)
