FYI, some Dacron fills are slick and silky feeling while others are rough and clingy. You should consider replacing fills that are not slick and silky in texture.
I just bought a sofa online and we've been frustrated by the fact that the seat back cushions have a "crunching" sound that they make. Its an 80% polyester blend. I'm assuming this Dacron is a cheap one that will not ever break down to not make that sound in the future?
Thanks for the video! My couch cushion seems to have the opposite issue. It seems overstuffed and the inner bag is just one big bag. No separate compartments.
Amazing! i would have thrown that filler away LOL... never even thought of pulling apart & re-fluffing... what a huge difference that made for little effort TFS
Great video! I just bought a new chair and the back cushion feels half-filled. I'll try breaking up the dacron and maybe adding more before resorting to replacing with a polyurethane block. Thanks!
Thanks so much just took apart my one cushion that is used all the time and fluffed insides and put back together! I many add some material from an old pillow later.. What material do you suggest if I want to buy some fill? TYIA
Hey Mark, hoping to watch the complete video after work today and get my cushions restuffed this weekend but I have a question. When I unzipped my cushions last, I noticed that the inside paper like liner material inside was quite damaged and torn because our dog can be a bit rough. Any thoughts on what to about this? Is it something I can purchase, measure roughly, stuff, and replace?
It is common for these light weight tickings to tear or disintegrate. Minor damage can be patched with another fabric and a little spray glue. Major damage requires full replacement
@@matpa8133 a lot of cushions are near the same size. You might search back cushion ticks and see what you can find. Look for a size 1 inch wider and 1 inch taller
@@MarksUpholstery Thanks, will do. My other plan had been to make my own inserts using quilting batting and double sided tape (I dont sew) since it's just to hold the stuffing, my cushions are zip-up and machine washable. But I'm going to call the store and see if they have replacements as well.
What about cushions that don't have the box pleat at top? It's just a straight seam. I believe the bottom is more squared. Will this same process work for ones that just have one seam at the top?
Is there something I can do when the insert material is disintegrating around the fill? When I try to fix the stuffing, it is just like a big dust storm of disintegrated insert material.
Thank you so much for this video! Instant subscriber. Is there a name for the high quality dacron? Reccommendations?? Thank you again for the guidance.
How do you fix couch cushions with marshall springs inside the foam? The springs are in good shape, albeit the cloth surrounding springs have a few tears, but not enough to worry about. Should I re-build the foam boxing or just replace the top and bottom foam with a firmer foam? I love to sit on a cushion that are built this way - it reminds me of the more comfortable furniture from "back in the day." If you have any advice, or a link, let me know.

How easy is it to replace/remake the pocket that holds the dacron? I am planning to "restuff" my cushion backs as you have suggested here but I some of my sofa back cushions have liner that has torn and can't be resown. Is this easy?
Mine don’t have any channels! They are just loose stuffing in the whole thing! No wonder out looks like crap now! I want to add foam. Do you have a video on how to create a down cover for the foam?
our back cushions have this problem. when I opened them up, I found the insert (inside bag) is not broken up into sections and instead is just one big bag.. I've tried adding additional stuffing into them over time, but that either makes the too fat (and they don't maintain their height) and/or it just compresses down over time. My guess is one the the challenges I have is the fact that the insert is not broken up into 3 or more separate pockets.. Do you agree that that this is the problem? if so, is there a way to buy or make replacement inserts? Or do you have other suggestions?
If your tick is not rotting you can put it in a dryer or out in the sun till it fluffs up. If the down is mixed with fiber, just do the same as the video
Hi thank you for the video, new subscriber! I am wondering if using shredded memory foam for the back cushion is ever recommended. It seems like it might be springier or bounce back well?
Typically, all down can loose its fluff due to drawing moisture and oils. Depending on the integrity of the ticking, it can be left outside on a hot sunny day or put in a big dryer. These can allow it to regain some fluff. A lot of cushions may have down mixed with Dacron. In some cases they can be treated like Dacron, but in my shop they are typically replaced with either all down or Dacron.
I’ve noticed there are online sites that offer custom inserts, but I can’t recommend any due to lack of experience ordering from them. It’s ok to be a little too big, but problematic when too small.
its unavoidable..... dacron/kodel, polycloud/cluster fiber, and even "microdenier" siliconized hollow fiber polyester (Trillium) "skins over" polyester-on-polyester self-adhesion.... even if you fill in the gaps around these "logs" or "sausages" of densified material.... they will just skin over again with an EVEN DENSER set of baffle-shaped logs.

Without making a new tick, you’ll have to treat the cover as the tick.

I personally stopped making inner spring cushions years ago. I either regrown and wrap them or replace with solid foam

Not easy. Just refluff as needed
Why to have pockets in cushions? Is it better than one pocket?
Most cushions should have 3. This keeps the fill from compacting to the bottom

If you intend to use the cushions for a few more years, it may be worth having a shop make sectioned ticks.

We used it a while in my uncle’s shop when he had a shredder. IMO, it is less durable over time.

Can you make a video on how to make our saggy couch sofa cushions firm?
Saggy cushions can be caused by worn out foam or poor deck support. When I come across this issue I will produce a video.
Como se hace la funda con bolsillo??? saldos desde Caracas Venezuela !!!!
I’ll do a video soon on the tick, thanks
