I honestly dont mind it on a flight when a baby cries, if it bothers people they can turn up their movie in the headphones or wear ear plugs.

Me too! I have a 20 month old and we just got home from a visit to family, and she’s really good on the plane. But those occasional moments when she’s talking kind of loud I remind myself of this, I think; “I don’t mind when other mama’s babies cry, so people probably don’t think it’s as big of a deal when my daughter is loud as I think.”

Exactly u can't help with infants crying. But parents who let their 2+ year Olds howl like it's the end of the world, without batting an eyelash at them, need to have some consideration for others.
I was on a 9 hour flight with a 6 year old who howled for the most part of the flight to have her way with her parents. It was an overnight flight, I had to work right after and had barely gotten any sleep and the kid who very well knew she was inconveniencing everyone on the flight. The parents were to blame as they just sat through the flight without saying a word to ask her to shut up. It was a terrible flight.

I agree! I always admire seeing parents with their children on a flight. I’m not a parent but I understand how stressful it is because they don’t want to bug anyone. It’s not bothersome to me ever! Babies cry sometimes, be graceful and get over it people!

My best advice (3 kids in) is don’t hold too tightly to the schedule during the flight, follow baby’s lead - with my first I was soooo stressed bc he would get off schedule and I would feel like “everything is ruined, nothing will go well now.” When really he would feel my stress and that would set him off way more than the schedule. With my 3rd kid we just lose expectations during travel, she sleeps when she sleeps and wakes when she wakes, and we just adjust as needed the next day. Then I’m not stressed, and she’s not stressed, we just go with the flow!
Also with the milk supply thing, that’s what happened to me when I was pregnant! I had no idea why it seemed like I was producing so little, but it turned out pregnancy lol
I wish you the best, will pray your next travels go much better!

We recently flew from New Zealand to Germany with our 8 month old, and the best thing we did was book a baby bassinet for her, which I would highly recommend. We also brought a big dark cloth to hang over the bassinet, so it would be really dark and cozy for her and we tried to do the same bedtime routine with her on the flight as we would do at home (sang her song, put her in her PJs that smelled like home). We also brought a "water spray" to spray over her bassinet a couple of times during the flight because the air was super super dry and we had a lot of formula with us. The flight went really well and I'm sure your baby will be fine as well! It's also important that you as the parents are relaxed because the baby can sense how we are feeling :) good luck and don't worry too much, it'll be fine!

As a mom of 3 kids, I’ve totally been there. It feels like a rite of passage into parenthood to have a really rough experience traveling with your baby (and with adjusting sleep schedules). However, if it makes you feel better, it gets easier over time and with your other kids. My youngest is 10 months and I still get stressed, but it is so much easier now. It’s almost like because you’ve already been through the worst and survived, you know it’ll be okay. Even if it still feels scary to try again. I’m glad you’re flying with her again soon! Kids tend to get easier as they get used to new experiences, it just takes time. Unfortunately, I don’t think there is an easy way around it, you just have to go through it. You’re doing such a good job, you are a great mama!
Also, we had a crying baby right next to us on our last flight and it didn’t bother us at all. I let also didn’t bother any one around us. That’s just how it goes!

Plus, you will never see these people on the flight again.

I have done a 14-hour flight to Australia when my baby was 9 months, and again recently when we turned 18 months. My advice is to not stress about their routine on the flight...there are way too many distractions on the plane for them to stay on schedule (lights, buttons, sounds, people). Let them get to sleep when they are ready. I always found that when I forced it, he felt my stress and got stressed himself. Keep yourself as calm as possible and remember how worth it will be when you land and get to hug all of your favorite people in the world! Have an amazing trip x

Hey Jess! I love your videos... just wanted to say that I've flown with a baby back and forth multiple times a year on a 12 hour flight (my husband and I lived in Europe for 4 years before we moved back to the states) - sometimes it's hard, sometimes it's okay, but I think mentally preparing yourself that you're not going to have a lot of down time helps. There will be a lot of holding, playing, soothing, etc., but you can get through it! Formula on the flight definitely helps. I also bring extra pacifiers (they always fall on the floor) and baby snacks, and I bring infant motrin and tylenol in case their ears hurt. Hope your next flight is easier!

Awwww I teared up listening to all the concerns you had about her routine, how little sleep she was getting during the day, your milk supply, the bumping vs nursing and formula delimma... THAT IS A LOT OF WORRYING to live with in a short amount of time! Not to mention feeling guilty and sad on top of the problem solving you were trying to apply to every situation! HONEY! May God bless you and strengthen you. You did an amazing job with what you had, not to mention the flight delays left and right which pissed me off a ton on your behalf because OH MY GOD I can relate to everything you felt and experienced including the external changes of plans.
Beautiful Jess you are an amazing mom. God bless you. Hope you're back on routine and that your milk supply restabilized. Oh by the way, night nursing is the best remedy for low milk supply ... especially that dream feed at 10 pm if I remember correctly. If she's sleeping well through the night, that's probably why your milk supply is decreasing. Also, the more she nurses on the breast, the better it is for sending signals to your body to produce more milk. As for some tips on overseas flights, have lots of snacks she can munch on when she's getting bored and loud. Get a blackout cover which you could put over her car seat AND a mini fan so she's doesn't overheat while covered (place it safely at a distance from her somehow underneath the cover) and with some caresses like you did, she will hopeful fall asleep much more easily on any flight ❤

My husband and I moved to Hawaii from North Carolina while our daughter was 17 months. She still nurses so I can relate. Depending on when you fly if you still have frozen milk some airlines will actually let you bring that along with you. If you just keep it in a cooler back pack type carrier or a milk carrier. You can count that as either Makaiah’s carry on or yours. That way you have enough milk to help keep her comfy and full if you aren’t ready to introduce formula. That was a life saver for our very long day of travel. Praying for your travels back home!
You are doing great, motherhood is full of joy but also a hard times but the joy outweighs those. Thank you for being a light💞

My heart goes out to you momma. When our babies cry and are stressed or hungry it is seriously so hard. And when we don’t have our normal “mom tool box” it gets really stressful. All I can say is that I have always found my milk supply to be hugely dependent on my stress level or lack thereof. Traveling on a plane, often dehydrated, and then super stressed would definitely make it hard to supply my babe. I say this because when I’m aware of my stress and how it affects my milk supply im better able to calm myself in the situation and drink some water and have my milk letdown for the babe. This might not be your situation at all but when I was a first time mom I hadn’t heard of a strong stress/milk supply relationship talked about before and it really helped me once I knew how my body worked. Best of luck on your future travels.

I traveled from Kenya to the US and back with my then 11/12 month old. Two 8hr flights back to back and a two hour flight. You have to let go of all expectations towards any type of schedule and then work on adjusting them when you get to your destination. On the flights, he slept when he wanted, watched shows (kind of not totally interested at that age) and played with toys. All rules go out the window haha you do what you need to to survive! One nap he fought a lot I had to put him in his baby carrier and walk/bounce him in the back of the plane. Most flight attendants are super helpful and understanding! I really felt like all of the people on the plane were kind and understanding as well.

Jess! I feel this. We traveled north for a week with a 3 month old and a 2 year old and wow 😳 the nap schedule being off was a bigger deal than I thought it would be. Just like you said, they’re happy babies so I thought it’d be okay.
Our flights were at bedtime and we had tears from both kids. My husband and I took turns walking a kid in the aisle. We tried all the distractions- books, snacks, toys, screen time. Nothing helped perfectly!
It’s hard! You just want your babies to be happy. You don’t want to disturb other passengers. Sometimes it’s embarrassing. And it’s DEFINITELY exhausting- mentally and physically.
But it is what it is! You have no control over your baby or other people or delayed flights lol. We’re all just out here doing our best. You’re shepherding your child’s heart- at home on a routine or on a plane when she’s overtired. Leave the control to God! You’re doing amazing and I give you props for being intentional with far away family- that in itself is also hard. 😂❤

Oh Jess! So sorry you had a hard time on your first flight! I have a 3 month old baby and my husband and I travel lots already with him.
Best advice I can give you is take a big breath and remember you're doing so great! 🥰 Practically, the formula will help you on these flights, also I'm not sure how much you do this, but wearing Makaiah might be quite helpful to help her keep her sleep time while you're at the airport. Once you need to get her in her car seat it might be easier to transfer her, since she's been close to you for a little while! Give it a try, and see if it works for you.
Little sweet Makaiah will adapt ♥️ You and Gabe are doing so great by her. Just a learning curve for us mommas with our little ones.

I've nursed all four kids and I found taking Blackmores Pregnancy & Breast-Feeding Gold and fenugreek tables helped soooo much with my milk supply. Stress never helps which is hard in a difficult situation.
We've flown Brisbane to NZ twice and Interstate from Brisbane - we find snacks, stickers, fidget toys, clothes pegs (lol) - pretty much plan 1 activity for 5 minutes for an hour and then cycle through.

I always have a baby carrier that I have used at airports and that helps and if they are tired they are comforted by being nice and snug and will often fall asleep. (could also put her in the carrier on the plane and walk the aisle if things go awry) Also breastfeeding on takeoff and landing to help with the ears. Just make sure you are eating lots of food, drinking lots of water, and sleeping well to keep your supply healthy and hopefully your supply won't drop. It can be hard traveling with kids! But it can go so smoothly too - I'll pray that this will happen for your next trip!

Hey, I totally hear you the entire story is completely relatable. You are not the only one. I took my 6m old to a family Christmas weekend this last winter. My baby, like yours, is happy and content but at the gathering as the weekend progressed things got worse. He became upset, he wouldn't nap or sleep properly and it took a month to redo his schedual.... it was rough so I totally understand all of that and feeling so sad for them too. ❤

I flew from the UK to brisbane to see family by myself and my 1 year old daughter without my husband. I was so nervous because I didn't have my husband with me to help but it went super smooth. She slept pretty much both flights, not cried once and just kept her entertained. The flight attendants are really helpful and will keep your daughter entertained as well. Don't stress about it, everything will go well

Hey Jess, sorry to hear your experience. Before our first flight with a 6 month old I consulted my son’s doctor and he said to hold baby in mothers arms while take off and landing and it really soothes the baby down. Now this worked for us but every baby is different and I know you will find what works best for you so don’t be let down. All the best ❤

We traveled internationally with our 10 month old at the time. Definitely pack more formula and bottles + portable bottle cleaner with you on the plane to account for travel time to and from airport, plane ride and any possible delays. Our daughter thrives on her routine as well and is very predictable but the travel threw her off. Her feedings became more frequent so it was helpful to have all her feeding stuff with us in case she wanted a bottle. We also learned to just go with the flow and follow her cues. Even if that meant her not wanting to fall asleep at 9 pm and letting her play on the plane. Wishing y’all the best!

I have a flight coming up in a few weeks, moving from Florida to Texas (I’m also going threw southwest) and my baby boy turns 9 months the day after and this is what I’m most scared of bc he only sleeps on top of me and fights it mostly everyday. I have a feeling he’s gonna be overtired, cranky and crying. But I have faith in God. Also, I’m so sorry your milk supply has dropped. I’ve been experiencing that for months but my son doesn’t like any type of formula. It’s been a struggle and I’ve had major breakdowns bc he sometimes is left hungry. It takes a toll on me mentally. But seeing that you’re going threw it too, doesn’t make me feel as alone. Praying she takes formula 🤍 Just remember God has your backs and knows what He’s doing. He’s helping you along the way. You guys are amazing parents.

I felt a level of anxiety when my supply dropped - also sad and guilty. Looking back now, I was doing it backwards. I had to find happiness in knowing that she was growing and that was good and truly all that mattered. Combined my milk with formula to start off and never looked back.
I bet she will be one very happy baby with a full belly on her way to Australia ❤

The best thing I did when flying with my 11 month old over night was wearing him in a sling/baby carrier in the airport to put him to sleep. Then when we got on the plane he was already asleep by the time we sat down and anytime the announcements woke him up it was easier to help him back to sleep since he was on me!

‘People can chose to live a child free life but they can’t chose to live in a child free world’ - I repeat this to myself whenever my baby cries on a flight haha it reminds me to breathe and drop the whole ‘babies can’t cry’ act. You guys did amazing xx as for overseas travel. Yes the bassinet seat is good but if there is turbulence or anything baby can’t be in it. And the arm rests don’t go down! Either pray for an empty row to lay baby down or business it is hehe im flying bris-La soon pray for me lol

Took a 15hr flight dubai to Toronto with my 8 month old. It was long, mum and dad were tired but bring lots of snacks, some toys, books and a baby carrier! Worst case baby is super overtired but having a carrier allows you to stand at the back of the plane comfortably and wait it out then eventually baby goes to sleep! I’m from Aus too so the mandatory trips home from Canada will just be part of parenthood! Good luck 😊

I grew up in Australia (Sunshine Coast)and married an American so we made many trips back to Australia with our children. I would say that it is best to have no plan or very little. If you have too many expectations then it just creates anxiety!!! And our babies feel our anxiety and feed off that. I did always try to keep them up for a few hours at the beginning of the flight when people were eating and moving around a lot. That way they were sleeping when everyone else was sleeping and there was quiet and darkness in the cabin. You will all do great and don’t be to hard on yourself.

Airlines usually have bassinets you can ask for. I had to fly alone with my 2 month baby. I was so scared of what everyone would think. But surprisingly, there are a lot of people that are willing to help, and everyone wears headphones. What helped me put her to sleep was nursing her and walking around with her after. You will be fine, just trust your baby. You will know exactly what she wants and you’ll be able to calm her down if she needs it 💘

our first / only flights with my daughter have been 13 hours from Miami to Israel. Definitely be prepared with some formula just in case! Loads of night diapers.. an ipad (that we only use on flights), snack snacks snacks! Little teething puffs at that age! But most importantly - I believe that our babies feed off of our energies.. so try to always remain as calm as possible (easier said than done), take everything lightly!.. and know that in a few hours
you’ll be with your family and off the flight!! ❤ can’t wait to follow along!

I use to think it was very selfish of people to let their kids cry the whole flight but then I realized babies can’t express themselves so they cry. As it is the parents are stressed out because of judgments, even if they try their best, it doesn’t work because babies will be babies until they learn to express themselves. We were once babies too. Jess you got this. She’ll eventually get use to it as she flies. Even as adults we get irritated when we’re not in our comfort zone. Adapting and overcoming takes time. All of y’all mama out there, y’all got this! I even like helping with babies on my flights. Got to meet so many cute babies!!!

I think it’s good to not always plan around your babies schedule cause you’ll miss out on things or get frustrated if she doesn’t nap when she should, and she won’t get used to adapting her own body when there’s a little change of environment.. I’m sure this was a good prep for future flights too!! Also, I’d say for next flight bring things she can chew on, bottles, interactive toys, and a blankie to cover her when she naps.

As a 57 year old and a mum I remember so well the stress of this situation. When travelling we are so uptight and stressed to begin with as a mum the worry is ten fold and it always will be. (My girl is 28 and driving solo across Australia the stress is horrible we never ever stop worrying). Try to relax and put it in gods hands Jess. All you can do is your best. Formula as a back up excellent idea. It’s so easy for our milk to alter at the slightest changes. I hear the bassinets that long haul flights have are amazing for long trips. But need to book early they only have a couple. And is bubby eating any food yet?? if so loads of snacks. But not sure of age you are exclusively breast feeding till. Back in my day about 6 months we added in food.
I’m sending you both all the positivity and strength and your girlfriends right not every flight will be bad. Sending loads of love Leisa Western Australia xx❤️❤️

Always pack snacks and extra formula on trips, as your diet changes when traveling, you may not be able to stay hydrated so your supply will drop. 9 months old can have solids, so I used to put any nut butter my son likes inside a feeding pacifier and cover it with its topper and give it to him at take off if it wasn’t his milk time, works like wonders with ear pressure.

I’m barely 16 years old, so I haven’t gone through all those life experiences, but I definitely understand what it means to have difficult moments where we get really stressed out and don’t know what to do. But I think the key was what you read from Philippians, no matter what it is we are going through, always be grateful and pray with joy and hope in our hearts! Those are the life changing lessons God teaches us. I hope you keep learning how to handle Makaiah in your next flights, and that God gives you and Gabe strength and courage! ❤️
