Today I learned that there is a colossal difference between a bad harp and a far superior harp, and that those two harps have a minor cost difference. Thanks for the advice!

The Snoopy was my first, really couldn’t make much happen with it other than I wasted $5 LOL Later I got a Wave and Lighthouse, and a set of the Dan Moi. I think the Wave is my favorite. Still working thru the “How to Play” playlist but really grateful for that playlist has been a huge help for not just me but my hubby and even my daughter do some occasional harping as well.
    Wishing a happy harping! 🐾☮️

It is nice that it's common and brings new people to the instrument. However you're right, it is a terrible representation of the instrument. It's not too much different than deciding to pick up guitar and going to the Walmart toy section and buying a toy guitar.
If you get frustrated with it, which is nearly a guarantee, you'll either stop playing it or buy a real one. Like Jamie says in the video, for not much more money you can get more sound and enjoyment with a better harp. Eliminating the unnecessary frustration of trying to play on the Snoopy.
Thanks for finding people new to the instrument Snoopy.... We'll take it from here.

I've been using one of these for about 20 years now, only harp I've ever owned. Finally took the plunge and ordered the Berezenko Omega from you guys yesterday. I already figured I'm in for a world of difference, but this vid managed to up my excitement to a whole new level!
Edit: Been playing this gorgeous Berezenko harp daily since it arrived, and WOW. I think I did luck out all those years ago and got a particularly well-built Snoopy (perfectly straight reed, not-as-bad gaps), so I was able to actually practice techniques on it. It was truly shocking, however, to transition to such a powerfully responsive, saturated instrument and experience what I'd been missing.
I absolutely agree that it's a shame these puppies (heh) are many people's intro to harps. If I'd known the difference, I'd have been WAY more into harping from the start. Getting a bad one probably turned off a fair number of potentially awesome players.

I wanted to check out jaw harps, but didn't want to spend a lot until I figured out if I would enjoy playing one. So I bought a set of 3 Dan Moi from Vietnam for under $20, a standard, mini, and the bass seen in this video. They sound good and easy to play, and at that price it was worthwhile. Now thinking about a Khomus, Morchang, or Glazyrin to start learning.

I was looking a lot into jaw harps and never considered the Snoopy. We had a secret Santa at my work, and my coworker ( who knew I was looking into harps) had asked me if I got one yet. I took that inquiry as a big hint that he was my secret Santa and was planning on getting one for me. Lo and behold, he got me the Snoopy. Mine is not as bad as yours. The reed is forward a lot, and it has a big gap between the reed and frame, but it’s pretty centered. When I play it, I actually squeeze the frame closer to the reed. That makes it much louder.

I've recently been playing my Snoopy harp i got at a Re-enactment like 10 years ago and have been able to get some very basic grooves going. I had to do some serious bending in order for it to actually give me some halfway okay-ish tones. Finally got a Pavel Potkin yesterday and my mind is absolutely BLOWN at the overall quality, how much easier, louder, responsive and groovable this bad boy is. In my opinion, a beginner instrument should be easier to play and get started with than the snoopy is. Pavel Potkin all the way. Can't wait to get a few more Harps with different Tonalities. Thanks for the content!

So good video! Thank you so much! I've discovered your channel a few hours ago, and all your content seems so incredible to me! I actually have this jaw harp, wich is one of the two or three jaw harps you can find here, in Argentina. It's a very horrible instrument when you can compare it with another one. The good point, is that I think with the years, it became more flexible, but it also started to rust, so it hurt my lips.

A good jaw harp doesn’t cost much money is much more comfortable and safe, and also makes a bunch of sound. Be sure to request a refund from the seller, then head over to the beginner page at theharpery.com. Harp on. 🙂

I got one yesterday. I knew it wouldn’t be good, but I wanted to start learning the basic techniques and such. I had a lot of trouble with it.
I have to have a death grip on it to try to quell the vibration against my teeth. The problem with the death grip is that I close the gap on the reed and then it shocks my teeth again because the gap is small enough to close on one side and doesn’t have much give to it. Luckily, I take good care of my teeth and they were resilient to the shock.
The reed is very stiff. I tried to bend it as far as I could just to exercise the reed a bit, and that seemed to help, but it’s still not good. I still have to fling the reed really hard to get good sound. That means that when my teeth get shocked, it REALLY hurts. I have to put my retainers in before I play just to get some armor on my teeth.
I am learning the basics, but I probably won’t keep it for long.

Snoopy harps are an example of bad quality. It's hard to imagine how a company could manufacture such rubbish without doing it on purpose. I tuned up the gaps in mine and then fixed the tongue with solder. Then I softened it and extended the duration by thinning the reed in the open section on both sides.

The only reason I could suggest, would be to buy a snoopy harp and post a review.

No worries. Just be sure to request a full refund from the seller. If enough people do this the snoopy harp may go away.

Oh cool I'll pick one up. I was hoping to get one you hand made. You should consider selling what you make. I would be interested. Just a thought. Thanks for the videos they have really helped my playing.

What bugs me the most is why people produce complete and utter crap and that applies to any product

Made by a large toy corporation. The world is full of awesome harps, just not this one. 🙂

I would give it a 1 out of 10. Extremely uncomfortable. Capable of breaking teeth, and cannot make jaw harp sounds or music.
