Long ago when I used to scuba dive in the crystal clear water of Florida’s springs, the colors of the fish was always real vibrant and clear with overhead sun and you were looking down into the depths with the sun behind you. But when you were swimming near the bottom and looking up towards the surface and sunlight, the colors went away and you could only see the black and white contrast profiles of fish above you. That is what I observed with my eyes. Who knows, the eyes of fish in their watery world might be hundreds of times more sensitive to colors than human eyes.
Quick and simple. The first video I've seen where it's explained specifically what conditions with the water clarity are needed to fish black n blue lures. Thank you Randy!!
Black and blue is my go to in west Tn !
My own personal experience is that a black and blue jig will catch bass anywhere.
Good stuff mate!! I make fishing videos too and I love watching yours!! Great work and keep these videos coming! 💪🔥🤝
I agree with the contrast part especially!
I also have done research on using different color lights to attract fish. Blue won!
Red is one of my favorite colors and performed the worst.
Different color lights can only carry so far in even the clearest fresh water.
30 feet for red
60 feet for yellow
90 feet for blue
300 feet for some ultraviolets
I also need to add that DOMs, dissolved organic matter, can reduce the visibility of blue, and ultraviolets to near nothing, like 1 to 2 feet., but red silt increases red, yellow, and chartreuse visibility up close by reflection. Something red, yellow, white swims behind the fish, and the light bounces around on the particles in the water and actually makes it to the fishes eyes. Crazy!
All natural white light is being stripped of its colors as it goes farther through the water.
First reds, then yellows, then blues.
Notice I pluralized the primary colors. There are actually different colors other than just primary, and they carry different distances, and properties.
It's easier to look at the properties of primary colors and then figure out how nature is effecting it.
reds, oranges, purples, white, and pinks all have red and some other color. They each act a little different, but are types of red.
The same for yellow, orange, green and white different effects from distance.
Blue, green purple, lavender, and white.
In the case of white, white light is the presence of all colors, so what happens is the water first strips away red, then yellow and finally blue!
Contrast on the other hand is I see some kind of light and something gets in the way of that light.
Target is locked on!
Thanks
Good information! Thanks for sharing!
A main staple of mine dirty water &at night
I’ve seen situations particularly at night or low light times when bass would not bite black plastic worms but they would bite dark purple. I have no idea how they can tell the difference but sometimes they can. Just like deer see differently than we do, evidently it’s the same with fish.
EXACTLY the same here... I've heard "black worms slow on the bottom slay at night" and the only thing that worked for me was junebug, and my white chatterbait.
Hold a jig up see it from.under neath below a lite source. It's just a silloet .unless u fish the new moon w total dark
Then I fish w rattles, and a kicking trailer,or add a blade from queen tackle. Or twin blades from decoy.
I've always been a GP guy but BB has been slowly making it's way up the ladder the last few years. I'll have to try the BB jig with a GP trailer.
Id been told that molting crawfish have that blue cast to them, but I've never seen it.
It's true very uncommon to see it I'm 36 years old and stay on the water all the time and I've only seen it twice ever wonder if the bass prefer those maybe at that time the crawfish are softer or something maybe reason it's so uncommon to see it because the bass prefer the crawfish at that time and eat them up bass constantly stay changing locations and moods they're interesting that's for sure
100% disagree about Black & Blue not working as well in crystal clear water - bluegills are dark from hiding in the shade or weeds near docks ect., my favorite is a 1/2 oz arki style that I swim/pull/pause/lift (mixed up retrieve) faster in the spring/fall or when fish are active - works just as well in murky water (I occasionally change how heavy or big/bulky the skirt or trailer is though) hardly ever catch any on any other color, a few on white, still use pork on my 1/2 oz 😜
As always I greatly appreciate your insights though! Never hurts to try something different
I catch more on black and blue than any other color, regardless of the water clarity.
💯
I mean…..this isn’t rocket science. It’s fairly obvious why bass eat black and blue lures.
Black n blue is a killer in tea stained water. Had the best luck with Stanley that had living rubber skirts! Gone now 😢
Blaukat old school jig work for you?
Some crayfish are blue I have seen 2 that was very bright blue they probably don't last long with bass around google images blue crawfish
What kind of jig is that with a willow underspin blade?
It’s a Megabass. Get ready to spend around $30. That’s the average price of all their baits.
Every fish I caught off a black and blue jig has always been bounced off something. Log, rock tree ect. And yes in dirty water.
Looks like a black crawfish with blue pitchers!!
Bass do not have blue cones in their eyes therfore blue and black appear to be the same color. It is strange.
catching crawfish around here with a string and meat chunk, they are Black.
I think if your a bass looking up towards the sky black and blue stands out more against the lightness of the sky. Maybe idk, just my thoughts
Nothing in nature is Black and blue… ??? I’ve seen blue gills look dark/black and blue.
Absolutely!
Many of new dragon fly hatches from larva are black and blue and love to hang out in branches and rocks reaching into the water
Bass are color blind to blue
