    I have a journal bearing on my car, but I am going to take the extra step to install a tee fitting and gauge at the cartridge just for piece of mind. Plus my feed line comes directly from my oil filter housing so it’ll show engine psi as well

    Are the restrictors one way or can oil feed through both ends?

    • @Bbeavis

      All the basic ones I've come across have no form of flow directional control.

    • @JoshMustillo

    Do you need to run a washer for the oil restrictor ?

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  7 месяцев назад

      If it's a fitting threaded into the turbo, it'll likely need a crush washer.

    I keep getting very conflicting opinions on whether to run a restrictor on a greddy t67-25g journal bearing turbo.
    The obvious answer is no, but some people have told me when the rpm are high it will get too much oil without a restrictor.
    It is currently getting rebuilt due to failure caused by suspected oil starvation, as it had a 2.5mm restrictor when i bought it and i drove it for 7 months before it failed.

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  3 года назад

      Sorry to hear about the failure, you may have to check with Greddy if they have advice on the ideal oil pressure.

    I just installed the turbo smart oil press regulator , and it starts off reading 60psi and then when warm it's on 40psi but as I rev it goes up to 60psi so how is that happening if it's a 40psi regulator?

    Today I removed my banjo bolt and ran a straight feed to the turbo is this bad for the turbo?

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  Год назад

      Whether you use a banjo fitting, or straight fitting, it should not matter.

    What the right oil fitting size I got a 7/16 to 4AN and the 7/16 doesn’t fit

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  2 года назад

      It will depend on your turbocharger, 7/16-24 inverted flare is the common size for typical consumer Garrett turbos.

    Hi Beavis motorsport, what are your thoughts on a turbo feed line filter

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  11 месяцев назад

      I'm no expert, but there's two ways to look at it I guess, on the one hand it is an extra safety net to ensure your oil into your turbo is 'clean', on the other hand, most every engine already has an oil filter.
      I'm sure there are pros and cons to either approach... pros of ensuring oil quality for your turbo or cons of extra complexity of additional fittings, plus the risk of it clogging and starving the turbo.
      I'm on the side of the engine already having an oil filter so I don't need to add complexity.

    How did you go about measuring the oil pressure at the feed line? Did you connect the sensor directly to the feed or did you connect it with a T split and ran the other end into the turbo? I'd assume you connected it directly to the feed without running it through the turbo.

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  5 лет назад

      Most people will T into the oil feed line.

    Does it make a difference if the restriction is on the turbo or engine side?

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  3 года назад +1

      No, as long as the pressure fed into the turbo is within spec.

    I put an rb25det turbo which looks exactly the same with the one you mentioned doesnt require a restrictor, labeled nissan 45v4. I had some oil burning issues and oil in my intake piping cause its a low mount turbo so i installed an external scavenge pump and a small container for steady feed to the pump. I got the turbo for service just to make sure and the guy said its an old turbo that doesnt have parts availability but the turbo is good. Anyway im planning on using a 1mm restrictor because i cannot find an explanation to why oil spills out both sides of the turbo other than the feed being too much. Whats your opinion on that?

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  4 месяца назад

      If you are unsure about the turbo or what restictor you need, perhaps an inline oil pressure regulator would be appropriate?

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  4 года назад +2

      FOR A GARRETT BALL BEARING TURBO
      An oil restrictor is recommended for optimal performance with ball bearing turbochargers. Oil pressure of 40 - 45 psi at maximum engine speed is recommended to prevent damage to the turbocharger’s internals. In order to achieve this pressure, a restrictor with a 0.040” orifice will normally suffice, but you should always verify the oil pressure entering the turbo after the restrictor to ensure the components function properly. Recommended oil feed is -3AN or -4AN line or hose/tubing with a similar ID. As always, use an oil filter that meets or exceeds the OEM specifications.

      @Choloracingparts 4 года назад

      I have a journal turbo

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  4 года назад +1

      @@Choloracingparts
      Journal-bearings function similarly to rod or crank bearings in an engine - oil pressure is required to keep components separated. An oil restrictor is generally not needed except for oil-pressure-induced leakage. The recommended oil feed for journal bearing turbochargers is -4AN or hose/tubing with an ID of approximately 0.25”.
