    Hi Matt. Very informative video. My brother bought me a Xorus Asturie lure i think it's called, have you tried them? Very streamlined, first time i used it i thought it was a rubbish action if i'm honest, just comes straight through the water. Then i started a few taps, walk the dog etc, and it comes to life! As there is no vane on the front, it changes action every single cast. Sometimes it stays on the surface, sometimes it dives. Fast or slow action, it is my absolute favourite lure. I wouldn't say it's the right lure for a beginner, but if you've done it for a while, you can absolutely make it sing!
    Fishing at the weekend with it, i was only a foot above the water, and the water was only a foot deep. Retrieved to the rock, and then stopped - i don't know why i did. All of a sudden, this bass steamed in, grabbed it, and off he went! So glad i had my drag set. Great scrap, pretty much bang on 3lb, my wife had it for lunch yesterday & today. Lovely

    Great informative video Matt. 👍👏👏 I would like to try lure fishing one day. Unfortunately the coast where I live, and my old weary limbs, don't allow easy access to the better marks.
    Maybe 1 day.🤞 In the meantime, I am happy watching the likes of yourself and I thank you for sharing it.😄

      Thanks Ian, really appreciate your comments and I’m not just saying that- will do my best to entertain - the best thing about lure fishing is you never quite know when there will be activity right in front of you so maybe you will surprised one day- no need for distant marks

      @@SaltwaterAngler I usually fish fish Saltburn pier, so I can sit down if I have to, and have seen lads ledgering off here catch bass occasionally. Could you recommend a lure?
      Seen bass off the beach too, but ledgering at distance, and I struggle to stand for too long, and a seatbox is no good as I use public transport.
      Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
      Requested this on you poll, so look forward to that video if it's feasible.

    Superb as always, well done Matt, highly informative & enjoyable. I recently saw a RUclipsr from the USA demonstrate a gadget for freeing up snagged lures, you clip it to the line & wizz it down to where the snag is. If it really works it could save quite a bit of money, I've lost count of the number of lures I have lost! I always look forward to your videos, please keep them coming.

    When it comes to re tying leaders while out fishing, i carry two pieces of wooden dowel about 4" long in my lure bag now. Use them to wrap the line round when pulling knots up tight. I learnt the hard way to not wrap 20lb braid around a finger to pull it tight like you would with 20-25lb mono. One bit of slip or pull too hard and it cuts deep.

    There's no right and wrong way.
    First time I used a patchinko I caught 5 Bass in 1 hour.
    It's more about choosing the right time than choosing the right lure retrieve.

    Is 60lb shock leader too thick for 20lb mainline? Really struggled to tie together (with your tutorial) but eventually got what looked fine so retired twice to be sure then loan behold sent a set of feathers and a whole leader out to sea which is grim. It was the leader that snapped as if the main line knot had cut into it.

    I love those Rapala jointed lures for close in fishing. I even make my own smaller version, for when the larger lures aren't getting a response from the bass.
    Also, lures are snag magnets and cost a bit of ching-ching.

    Is there much of a difference between summer and winter bass fishing?...

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  2 года назад

      Yes, September to November the best months BUT it’s fishable days due to the weather that are the problem. Seasonally with the lures then winter is good until December here in Sussex however storms and high winds stop us actually taking advantage of it.

    I found I have better results when retrieving a hard plastic lure at a constant medium retrieve. However, when the water is cloudy, fast erratic retrieve has better results. This is because the fish needs to use its senses as opposed it’s visual. There are days, I know I’m going to blank. But got to be on it to win. Love the challenge of lure fishing and the less i catch, the better feeling when you do 😬

      Interesting that Chris , That huge bass "EAR" must be quite impressive sensing our lures in the water.

      @naylorchris1975 2 года назад

      @@SaltwaterAngler Not sure what you mean on the EAR Matt, but they can sense disturbance in the water, and that enough to get them interested. I’ve fished for Mackerel on a single lure and have had good sized Bass chase them as I bring them in. So I know speed cAn be an asset. Pending conditions.They are like a barracuda in our waters when they want to feed. 👍

    I was out recently with the Lure rod, an SG Surf Seeker & other lures, and after a couple of hours I was getting tangles in my Braid. I put it down to the fact that the Seeker rotates as it drops when worked sink & draw, and was twisting the Braid every cast, so it looks like a small swivel will be compulsory in front of the lure from now on.
