  • Gas cover was pried off and retaining pin was broken. Gas was gone also. I turned on the ignition and the dashboard said: "Range 4 miles"! LOL. Lucky I limped it enough to get to a gas station just in time. Hypermiling techniques were actually useful this time!

Very cool, thanks! I'm surprised that it adhered so well and was so rigid but nicely done! Sorry to hear that some low-life damaged your car and stole your gas... hope you don't have any more troubles! Just FYI, you can buy a key-locking gas cap at most auto stores and sometimes even Walmart!

Thanks Blake. I'll definitely get a locking gas cap. It doesn't stop the thief from breaking my gas cover but at least I still have my gas. After the incident, I kept imagine myself walking along the freeway for miles with a gas can on my hand... :D

Wrong. You can use any key about the same size or shape as the gas cap factory key to open it. Not to mention a large flathead will pry the entire cap right off. You cant forget about the hose too, a box cutter slices right through that rubber hose. Maybe vehicle manufacturers and aftermarket accessory companies can use this information as valuable feedback and improve designs on future makes and models

Get urself a locking gas cap! Good 10 bucks or so. Walmart has em. puts another layer between the thief and ur gas. After that, get an EV! :)

Locking gas cap only helps you from not getting your gas siphoned. The thief doesn't know you have a locking gas cap until after he's already pried off your gas cover and broken the locking pin. Maybe just put a label on the gas cap saying something like: "I have a locking gas cap, don't pry off my cover, you still can't steal gas". LOL And yes, EV will solve all gas related problem. :D

@@vuaeco I was thinking the same thing before reading your comment. I would put a plastic label on the gas cap hatch saying: Locking Gas Cap Inside.
