    Thanks for the video! After trying to get at the actuator/pin for 40 minutes I ended up just prying the bracket that it goes into and got it in 10 seconds with no damage done. Just a tip in case anyone else runs into the same issue

    Great video! I rubber-banded some composite shims together to create a wedge. Used a long skinny flat-head screwdriver to pop that little button. Took about 20 minutes of fiddling around with it, but got it done!

    I was having this exact problem with my 2014 Santa Fe. I searched all over for videos of how to get the broken pin to move so I could open the door. I am so happy I found this video. The bungy cord is a great tip. I used the L shaped pick and had it fixed in no time. I did have to make a small slit in the rubber boot around the filler cap so I could get the two actuator bolts out. Thank you for you great video.

      When start up companies make new things, and companies change designs like women change their shoes for a fashion statement every year, it is prone to failure. Car companies now days never spend enough time refining an idea. Consumers buy things that look newer, and are different. By the time most companies realize they have a problem, they are already building a next generation vehicle. In a way, it is the consumers fault, because that is what they want. Some companies knowingly build junk, but it usually is not Asian companies.

    There is a flange over the spout/tank spout that can be removed. It's were the spout and rubber boot join near the spout. Once out that rubber part can be removed altogether. Undo bolts, remove unit from boot cavity and reinstall. Will likely damage that rubber boot if old and brittle.

    You can unclip the flange from the body metal. Get a pick or driver under the lip and pull inward towards cap. Its not "easy", careful not to scratch your paint tho.

      I just finished replacing a fuel door that was broken off for a customer. Once you pop the black plastic housing (down from the top and up from the bottom) depress the release button so it goes behind the rubber flap and the housing comes right out. Release bolts to the sheet metal. I left mine in place as it wasnt broken. Switch out the door and the housing (with the new door) goes in like grease. Just depress the button again on the way in. Yes, I was cussing it to start. Dont scratch the paint!

    I think i have to replace mine. Today i tried to open it using the button inside car and manual cable pull in my trunk. Doesnt want to pop open. 2015 Sonata. When i try the button i hear the mechanical sound but door wont pop open. Is there another component. I hear the actuator moving when I press the button so maybe its like your situation.

    My wife’s Elantra started needing multiple button pushes to start opening the fuel door. I’m guessing they use the same part as the Sonata?

    • @RustBeltAuto
      @RustBeltAuto  5 лет назад +2

      It could possibly be an electrical issue, or maybe a solenoid. Thankfully with an issue like that, you could probably still use the manual release handle in the trunk if it got really bad. If you go on ebay and look for that part for your vehicle, it will list the application of every vehicle for that particular part. It is probably not the same. If it was, I would have listed in in my description for this video to generate more views.

    • @stimmie78
      @stimmie78 4 года назад

      Wasn’t so bad. The rubber doesn’t want to go back due to the cold. Also, I accessed everything on the back side through the opening that you would remove to change a bulb. Far less to take apart. About a 20 minute job in the cold. Thanks for the video!

    I'm having the opposite problem (gas door won't latch closed). It's a much better problem to have--at least I can put fuel in the car! But I think it's the same component that has broken. 2016 Hyndai Genesis. Looks like they have all kinds of problems with this part.

    Important...he knows it's not the switch at the front because his manual release isn't working. In my case, the TRUNK release isn't working either and the trunk manual fuel door cable works . That equals BAD switch in the dash. That happens too.

    Had the same problem so replaced the door switch as shown in the video. Pushed the button on the dash door opened OK. Shut the door and repeated 2-3 times. Worked good. Figured I got the problem fixed. Four time wasn't a charm. Heard noise like the solenoid might have tripped, door didn't open. Figured I had a bad new switch. Took it out and on the bench and applied 12.53V from a battery to switch. Clicked away every time, didn't miss a beat. Figured, maybe, a bad wire? Plugged the switch back in to the harness and laid it in the trunk, pushed the dash button. CLICK! CLICK! CLICK! Worked every time. Installed the switch back into its slot. Closed the lid. Pushed the dash button... NADA! ZILCH! NOT A PEEP from the switch. Manually opened the door with the release handle, pushed the dash button. NOTHING! Can anyone shed some light on this...anyone?
