    For decades this was my go to lake. I only lived 20 minutes away. Had a boat too. When I was a kid my Dad drove me over there before there was even a lake and he showed me how they were going to make the lake. He memorized the terrain for the future and that's where we trolled. Originally few fished there. But now as you mentioned it's heavily fished. This is where boats help ... even a canoe. You know this lake well. I can tell. Great video!

    Just wanted to say this was one of the best videos on how to approach Pennsylvania lakes! The only downfall of the whole video you have your Thoughts on structure and cover backwards. You referred to the laydowns and deadfalls, Weed beds, docks as structure. All of those are considered cover when structure refers to changes in the bottom contour of the lake. I have Fished This lake for over 35 years and by far your video is the best when it comes to information wise. Would love to someday run into you on the lake and fish together keep up the great work

    great video. I knew going in that I would probably either fish up by the dam, or out of the 528 launch. I still don't know which one I'll do this coming Saturday, but I at least know that there should be some fish to be had in either area.

    Thanks for doing these videos. I just found it this year, but you're right about the fishing pressure. Its crazy. Another thing I found crazy was catching small mouth on lake arthur. I was in about 18 feet of water, and initially thought it was a striper. It ended up being a 22.5" Smallie.

    Well done Ryan and thanks for taking the time to put all that together. For more than 10 years I have been a saltwater kayak fisherman on the west coast of Florida. I had become reasonably proficient in that environment, including participating in a number of kayak fishing tournaments. I now find myself here in Western PA and looking at the prospects having to learn a completely different style of fishing in unfamiliar waters. I am confident that I will be able to adapt and the information you provided should help to shorten the learning curve. Although I will dearly miss the red fish, snook, sea trout and especially the tarpon of the Florida waters, I look forward to this new challenge.

      Fishing Western Pa , thank you for the comment! I feel passionate but some may call it a crazy addiction. There is quote out there , “Fishing is my drug of choice, I don’t party, I don’t pop bottles, I go fishing. I cast as many times as possible, and then cast once more. I read fishing magazines, look at lures and organize my tackle. Late nights out partying never compare to early mornings on the water. You can have the night life, I’ll take the the fresh air, beauty of the outdoors and the thrill of a screaming reel”. That’s s great quote because that’s how I have always felt. I hope that it does come across in the videos! I hope that you found something useful that will help you catch more fish! Thanks again for the comment, I appreciate it!

    • @FishingPAwithRyanRead
      @FishingPAwithRyanRead  4 года назад +1

      I caught a few little ones a few nights ago up pymatuning , I imagine you could do the same at Arthur. I usually find a launch and just pitch out in an area. This time of year the bait fish come shallow to spawn and fish like cats come in. I’d look at the map and find a shallow bay accessible from a launch. Pm me on Facebook and we can talk more.

    • @FishingPAwithRyanRead
      @FishingPAwithRyanRead  6 лет назад

      Patrick, thanks for the comment! It is a very good Crappie lake especially through the ice. Early spring i have watched guys wading catch 50+ Crappie an hour. It is heavily pressured, but anywhere you find timber early in the year could yield some decent Crappies.

    Heading up today for Crappie, where is the best spot?

    • @FishingPAwithRyanRead
      @FishingPAwithRyanRead  2 года назад +1

      I’ve always read that crappies go out to deeper water in the fall , like 15ft plus once the water dips below 55 or 60 degrees, I feel like if you find good bait , you’ll see them stacked vertically on your graph , if your going from shore , I’d try to find somewhere with access to deeper water , but that’s just me , sometimes they still hang out in timber and docks but I think allot of the bigger ones went deep by now.

      There was another comment regarding that and I think it is illegal to fish the docks , especially when there are boats in there , my issue is that I fish Arthur early and late and for whatever reason I missed the signs , whether or not they are there all year round I don’t know. The best thing is to stay away from them , or troll the outside edge away from the docks , I apologize for the miss there , I had to be corrected initially because I have always missed the signs when we fish Arthur in late November or early March ...

    I just wanted to comment on the section regarding the Marina's. I usually fish Lake Arthur early season and late season which means that the boats are usually gone from the marina's. I just found out recently that fishing in those areas is prohibited. I wanted to apologize to everyone for putting that section in the video. I do not want to fish illegally and i do not want to put anyone else in a bad position. With that said, i have never seen the buoy's indicating no fishing in early season or late season. Does anyone know if they remove them at the end of the year and put them in later on? I am trying to figure out how i have missed this in the past. If anyone knows for sure if its legal to fish them early season or late season, i would appreciate it, otherwise i recommend staying on the outside edge of the bays to avoid issues.

    How is the hybrid striper population? I've never caught one and I'm looking to try and get one this year from my kayak.

    @ryan read. Fishing the marinas is illegal. Not allowed to fish the coves or docks. Look it up online. Just wanted you to know so you don't get fined

      trschroder , man thank you so much for the comment , I really appreciate that! I took a look at the site and I definitely do not want to do anything illegal. I had no idea all these years and I think that just goes to show how easy it is to overlook something like that. It also shows that we as fisherman have to understand the lake fully before we head out! Thank you very much , I’ll stay away from those areas moving forward! Thanks for looking out for me and others!

      It’s actually 20 horse now on Arthur. You can have the big motor on but you gotta use either a kicker or your trolling motor

    Hey where do you get your structure maps?

    • @FishingPAwithRyanRead
      @FishingPAwithRyanRead  6 лет назад +2

      I basically create the main map in Google Earth based off of notes or maps that i have found online. Allot of times ill mark structure on the map when i am in our canoe or on Dan's boat in one of the smartphone apps. Allot of the state parks have maps of the lakes as well. Sometimes local bait shops will markup maps for you too and tell you about structure points.
      I typically do a google search and find some decent information to add to what i already have. The maps that i have snips of are from the internet. One other tool that i use is like USGS topo's, sometimes they have GIS data available that has water depths. Allot of the newer depth finders have water depth maps too. Hopefully that helps!

    I wish the lake had a higher horsepower restriction like 200 hp.
