Detroit still exists? I thought they outsourced that township years ago to some country like India or Saudi Arabia? Do they still build more Toyota and BMWs than GM or Ford combined? I bet ole Jimmy Hoffa traded his Pinto in for a Honda Civic. Legend has it, you can hear his aftermarket Mugen exhaust outside the UAW headquarters to this day.

Aaron is smart, respectful, articulate, and clearly enjoys his work. Showing Jay that homage, while describing his work, is truly refreshing. Tadge can be proud.
Hi Jay: What an honor to be selected to test drive this new "vette! Boy....What a machine! I was a mechanic in an Olds dealership for 7 1/2 years, and this was in 1966-1973. Olds was famous for coming out with all kinds of new innovations, and it about broke my heart when they ceased production. I did a lot of modifications on the olds 455 engine. I could get 7000 rpm, and that's pretty good for a push rod engine in those day's. I used only factory manufactured parts; I don't know what the horsepower was. We didn't have a dyno, but our 442 drag car set all kinds of records. It wasn't hard to burn-up a set of rear tires. I love you channel, and best wishes! Gary
Gary LaRue; I agree. My buddy’s parents bought him a new 1970 442/455 4spd when he got his license. They weren’t rich, just chicken farmers. Cam, headers, intake, carb and larger rear tires was all it took to take command of the Streets. What great time it was.
In 50 years or less, the world will look back at this moment in time as we all once looked at 1969 in 1970 as being the best of the best in automotive times!
It's true. This is the golden age of food (real food, no food replicator machines yet), sports (UFC - Rose Namajunas still fighting), cars (Tesla Model X or Model S plaid has 1020 horsepower), and the new gasoline cars right now have way way way too much power.
I could not agree more. He listened and responded to Jay's comments agreeing or adding details and stories behind the things that make this car unique. I have read the comments from Car and Driver over the years complaining about the chinzy interior the handling being subpar but a great straight line car. This is a Ferrari/Lambo you name the exotic car killer. Not many can afford an exotic but plunk down $100K is more doable for many people when you can driver to the golf course or take trips in this car. Amazing. Great job all around in this video.

One of these rolled up and sat in my driveway, in manufacturer's camo, while it was being cross-country limit tested about 9 months ago. It dawned on me what it was right before it left, and let me tell you, it sounded so sweet. Almost dead silent at idle. Driver gave me a throttle blip as he went down the street. Got chills.
New Corvette Z06, Mr. Leno the first to drive it, it doesn’t get any better than that. Thank you Mr. Leno for bringing the thrill of a true sports car to everyone🙏🏽

I've been a Ford man for 25 years but man GM, you've got me rethinking things with this engine!! When the Shelby GT350 family got the Voodoo engine, I was certain GM was going down but wow was I wrong!! Great show Jay and GM couldn't have picked a better representative to help showcase the car than Aaron Link. Well done to everyone involved in this project!!!
Ford always knew the potential of building their engines with a Flat plane crank layout, but never pulled the trigger for consumer use because the american automakers felt that the american buyers did not want higher reving engines, the notion that american engine were resorting to making power like small european engines was not something they thought the american buyer wanted. Americans wanted big bloaty gas guzzling power with lots of torque in the lower revs. Also.. they understood that going with a higher reving FPC engine would not only create more vibration, but that higher revs ment more quality in thier builds. so they strayed from going in that direction. Then came the Ford Shelby GT350. and the idea was that here we have two engine close in spec, between the Ferrari and the Ford, what if the Ford generated power in the same manner as the Ferrari. In the end they were astouonded by the results, far better than they anticipated. the power spread throughout the RPMs perfectly. and where mustangs typically fallen out of breath upon acceleration, The FPC voodoo engine was just getting started, Delivering power exactly where it was most wanted. Here was an engine that many including myself who long read up of use of the FPC over a full decade earlier , saw as the engine that ford shouldve built decades ago. Ford's and GM's own internal Bias and predjudace towards european builds had prevented them making truly great engines. Thankfully Ford had improved with its operations ever since Alan Mullaly took the lead and placed greater followers after him. Dave Peresack has been the gold standard for fords performance division. and with the success of the Shelby GT350 FPC engine GM was bound to follow that lead and they did with the z06.
Voodoo engine is based off of the coyote which is massed produced the Zo6 is in a league of its own GM knew what they were doing when they pulled it from their race car and made it for the street I’m definitely curious to see what Ford has planned now both Ford and Chrysler are going to have to come up with something iconic to compete especially when the ZR-1 comes out knowing it’s probably going to be forced induction and producing some really high numbers I would expect nothing less than 750hp
I just refuse to compare the Mustang, a car engineered to cost $27k base model, with a Corvette. The high performance mustangs are, at their core, a $27k design with a bunch of stuff on them. The Corvette is nothing of the sort. They should never be compared. It's Ford's fault for not making a true purpose designed sports car, outside of their unicorn fart GT.
I agree! I own a gt350 and it's the best car I've ever had. GM did copy Ford with this idea of a high revving flat plane crank motor with carbon fiber wheels, but this car is amazing! GM and Ford should work together to compete against European cars...Fords done it but jeeze, half a mil for a Ford GT is not something everyone can buy, the Vette is more obtainable...
God Bless America! Have to add... Could not be more impressed with the GM rep ..... Seems like a super fantastic gentleman. His pride really shines through and obviously has poured his heart and soul into that All-American beast as well!!

I really liked this engineer, feels very genuine, normal, and totally understands WHY this corvette is so special. He is so right that this is likely going to be the most powerful NA engine, FOREVER. Emissions and regulations are forcing turbos and electric, which lets face it, really kill the joy out of driving. Electric is ultimately the fastest, end of discussion, but its about the journey, not the destination. This is not only the swan song not only for Corvette, or American cars, this is the swan song of all cars. This is the corvette that doesn't rest on the laurels for being the champion of value, but instead is just one of the best cars period.
"Electric is ultimately the fastest,..." Is it really though? Let's see any electric do 10 laps around the Nürburgring Nordschleife. How many laps can it do before it needs a 5 hour charge to finish those laps? Is it even going to do 1 lap if it's pushed to the limit?
@@dreammachine5014 A single lap it'll probably kill anything, and its only a matter of time before electric does evolve past the range restrictions to be honest. My point is that this is the pinnacle of what we can do with combustion engines really. I love Jay’s enthusiasm and pride when we Americans make a truly good car, I feel exactly the same way. I know we’ve made a lot of CRAP, but when we really care we can do anything anyone else can at least well enough to hold our own, and often well enough to handily outmatch nearly any competition, and do it efficiently and often affordably. We need to try like this more often, in more industries, like we did for generations, be less dependent on everywhere else. I love everywhere else, but we’re in bad need of independence and industry these days. SO glad Jay mentioned GM’s union commitments and how important they are. Great work, GM, and great video, Jay!

Enjoy it while you can. While GM has many great engineers who, when allowed to, can do incredible things. You have GM's top 2 engineers, Mary Barra & Mark Reuss in charge and both of them are OBSESSED with Electric Vehicles. I strongly believe that 10-15 years from now those 2 will drive GM to it's second and final bankruptcy and put GM out of business for good.
Please be more specific. you have a C6 zr1 beside a c7 zo6 or c7 zr1? Or is it two C7's? I'd like a 2015 Z/28 to put beside my ZL1. I'm in a different tax bracket. I think the c8 is wrong. C7 will always be the best one they made. Also Ford did the flat plane first and they both sound ehhhhh. Unless you like Europe 😝
Since retirement, the ability to buy the latest desirable car has disappeared. But having owned a lot of them when times were good, watching this gave me that "I must get one of those" feeling I used to have but ignored for many years. I have been thinking about my retirement looming and the cars I have owned....no regrets..I had fun in them while I had them(my wife enjoyed them too) the new sports cars out now are crazy.
Now go buy one, drive it 2k miles a year while waxing if every other week & throwing some very expensive but tasteful mods on it, give it a full PPF AND ceramic coating for good measure, then put it up for sale 2.5 years later like 70% of vette owners so I can get a good deal😜😂😜😂
We're at the end of an era. When engineers pitch cars like the Z06, I'm willing to bet that one of reasons given for building is something like, 'if not now, when?' Jay's right. Engineers are running things. That argument is bound to resonate.
it's like Dodge did back in the 50s into the early 70s. They knew much stricter EPA restrictions were looming so they had a sort of, last hoorah and made ridiculous muscle cars.
Speaking as a lifelong Porsche guy, huge props to GM for having the nuts to make a pure N/A Corvette with this kind of power, yet no turbos or electrification of any kind. This car, just like the new GT3, should be celebrated as the best of their breed
Definitely not it’s basically a Ferrari 458 copy Ferrari V8s Lamborghini V10s V12 been sounding amazing for years so no it’s not best sounding car ever made it sounds like a typical flat plane V8 bruh
@@AMGTT To an automotive Audiophile, this engine does not sound exactly like the F136 engine. While the FpC V8 produces that familiar sound signature, the overall characteristics provide each with a unique charm and a different overall note when comparing them side by side. I'm not going to say one sounds better than the other, that is purely subjective and personal preference, but I think the differences will become much more prevalent to people as the Z06's start rolling out and people begin doing louder aftermarket exhausts. Regardless, I think this was a great move for GM and it ticks all the boxes where the previous C8's fell flat. It also makes SIGNIFICANTLY more power than the F136 engine of the 458 thanks to some creative modern tech, further distancing themselves from one another.
An American pushrod V8 engine has always been the best sounding engine in the world. Nothing sounds even close to as nasty, mean and raspy. If you listen to a Viper, they sound timid and frail in comparison. I am not sure yet if I'm sold on this overhead cam flat plane crank engine. But a V8 engine is the best engine configuration in a car, because nothing can beat the sound of 8 cylinders. It's the magic number.
I’m so glad V8’s are still on the road I don’t want to drive on American streets without some V8 rumble around even if it is a pickup. So glad to see we kept the V8 I did not want a V6 vette just wouldn’t be the same. Just from a sound stand point the V8 just fits it, it’s our sound you know one when you hear it like a Harley.

When the Shelby GT350 family got the Voodoo engine, I was certain GM was going down but wow was I wrong!! Great show Jay and GM couldn't have picked a better representative to help showcase the car than Aaron Link. Well done to everyone involved in this project!!!
Ford could do it
Ford always knew the potential of building their engines with a Flat plane crank layout, but never pulled the trigger for consumer use because the american automakers felt that the american buyers did not want higher reving engines, the notion that american engine were resorting to making power like small european engines was not something they thought the american buyer wanted.

@@jamesw.6931 I know what you mean. Seen it with my dad and others. Some get to point they spend more time going to doctor visits than living.
@@perriponders289 -- True, but I don't see any zero emissions internal combustion engines on the horizon.
Speaking as a lifelong Porsche guy, huge props to GM for having the nuts to make a pure N/A Corvette with this kind of power, yet no turbos or electrification of any kind. This car, just like the new GT3, should be celebrated as the best of their breed
ruclips.net/video/ZxW8rj4NSfo/видео.html
Easily one of the best-sounding cars ever made. Congratulations, Corvette Engineers!
If they could just understand that Lamborghini style scissor doors would look good on this car
Definitely not it’s basically a Ferrari 458 copy Ferrari V8s Lamborghini V10s V12 been sounding amazing for years so no it’s not best sounding car ever made it sounds like a typical flat plane V8 bruh
@@AMGTT it arguably sounds better than a 458 but other than that you speak trith
Well I wouldn’t consider this an American v8 sound because of the flat plane crank, but it’s a magnificent damn sound.
This doesn’t have a V8 rumble tho lol.
this has no V8 rumble. It's more like a Ferrari V8
I love this channel, I've been a gear head since I was 12 and 40 years later you rarely see kids who are into the mechanical aspects of things. Thanks to you for putting this out, and a big round of applause to the guys at GM for pulling no punches on this car. It's a knock out!
As a toyota fan, can't help but respect the MR2
I used to own a Cressida I 1JZ swapped. Kids are still into mechanicals, there's just not much support for it nowadays with woodshop classes cut. Everything's a hobby
I'm 60 and most of the young adults even up to forty or so don't even really understand the mechanics of a vehicle. Ask them what they have under the hood and seemingly, they don't know or care. I find that bewildering . I live on the east coast and I'll talk to people at a gas station and most of the young adults will have a nice vehicle but they won't have a clue what kind of engine they have? I'm grateful I was brought up in the 60s 70s and 80s oh, it was a much better time. But I guess most Generations talk like I do when they get older? Call me a geezer, but I bet you if you're my weight 200 lb and older than 45, I could still give you a good run!
I'm 14 and I really love all types of vehicles but I really don't know too much about the mechanical aspect of them but I am trying to learn from my family and my friends.
because kids today are gay AF
@@blakebankhead8402 Keep it up . You can never stop learning especially with cars . Look and study old cars and the new stuff. What does stink about this era is the days of 100 to 500 dollar cars are pretty much gone . So it's very hard to find something cheap to really tinker with and learn.
I will always be a Ford guy....(im 67)....but,Chevy,you just rocked everyone,nicely done.
If anything its a good thing competition is always great for innovation
I LOVE everything about this car, even the neon yellow color! Way to go, General Motors!
my first car was a 1961 corvette, this is just so awesom, i have had a 1969 and a 1992, this 2023 is the best yet, my wife gave me the ok to order one with the z07 package, thank you gm.
From a Ford guy, hats off to GM! Fantastic car!
Great review, as always, Jay.
Pure race engine! So much tech was put into this engine and they absolutely knocked it out of the park! But wait till the Zr1 drops it's going to be wtf unreal !
Twins basil. Lol
The new Z06 is truly an awesome car.
The 1990-1995 Corvette ZR-1 had its own unique 4 cam engine the LT5.
Correct, but not made by GM. Lotus designed Mercury Marine built.
I trust Jay Lenos opinion more than most other peoples.
he and Daddy Doug are who I go to.
He said the car can be bought for 80k, good luck with that 🤣.
Scotty Kilmer.
Agreed. If one considers all the different vehicles he’s driven, including the exotics, his opinion should be respected by every auto enthusiast.
I’m glad Jay takes care of all of these cars/rolling pieces of art and preserves the history behind them. I hope someone does the same in the future with his collection.
This car not only looks like something I would drive but this car would actually drive me. Major kudos to GM.
From a Brit who has never really got the american muscle, only due to our roads, i got to drive a modern corvette this year and really liked it, but good to see big J having a blast, sounds pure with all those revs, GO USA !

Jay's passion for cars (and this one in particular) is infectious - I found myself subconsciously smiling within the first few minutes of the video.
I've always appreciated Chevy's engines of course, but with this car I am an OFFICIAL FAN now. What they've done for America's auto presence in the world is truly awesome. I'm sure they aren't making alot of money off these, I love seeing that pride in work we haven't seen in a while.
duded they make tons of profit on these cars especially when you have to take them to the dealer, Trust me I used to work for Pontiac stealership
My fav sports car has always been the 911 ever since I was a child but the corvette has always had a special place in my heart. Love the latest models!
Growing up in Munich, Germany. I was always a fan of Porsche but when I laid eyes on a yellow Corvette C5 at 12yo I fell in love with it. I would see it many times thru the years because whoever owned it stuck out of the rest. Same thing was for mustangs
I'm so impressed, GM have totally excelled themselves. What a beautiful car. I saw a Top Gear preview of the "normal" Z06 yesterday. The car was silver with alloys, and it was a stunning looker. We don't even have the C8 stingray in Australia yet, and yet they're previewing this beast in the US lol. Bravo to GM. With this engine it's reminiscent of Porsche GT or Merc AMG stuff.
What an honour to be the first to drive this amazing piece of engineering. Look forward to full tests on road and track. Great job GM 👏🏼🙌🏼
Hearing Jay say the C5 is his favorite corvette warmed my heart, I daily drive my cammed c5 and is the best car ive owned

Again Jay is the man. . .humble, knowledgeable, well respected.
The sound of this C8 is phenomenal. Just stirs my racing soul and you can see that Jay when he punched it was going well over 100 mph just from tapping the accelerator.
I own a 2019 C7 and I love it. I just recently bought a 2022 GT 500 and that car is beyond believe special. I would still love to have a new Z06.
I've said this before, will say it again, Chevy engineers have outdone themselves. Absolutely fantastic engine, amongst the best 👌
I love watching this show where people actually know what they're talking about are taking about IT!

As a Lotus driving Brit I love it! Last time I was in Colorado I was lucky enough to be taken to a meeting in its predecessor…. A fantastic car, really well made… so this new car should be magnificent. Oh I almost forgot to say no doubt WAY WAY WAY more reliable than my last Mercedes. Blown away by the fact this is the same light weight of a 911.

It’s crazy to me that the people to bring back the traditional Ferrari blueprint of a flatplane, mid mounted N/A V8 is Chevrolet.
It’s like the rebirth of the 458, only more powerful, IMO better sounding and for 1/4 the price.
