I agree with this, except you're not completely in trouble. Just run a fill hose into the drain hole, then pour in the required amount of oil from above the fill line. The diff will fill, and be close enough to the right level.
Liked your video. Two things that I recommend, I always clean the area where the drain and filling plugs are to make sure no dirt enters. I usually do not use ratchet when I tighten plugs, blots etc. for two reasons, you have better feel when using a handle or a wrench and the ratchet will last much longer.
you should rebuilt the front swivel hubs immediately they are easy to do on patrols and with those drain plugs it so much easier to just weld a piece of square bar to them. And the diff in the rear of yours in a H260 others are the h233 both super strong And i think having 2 filters is awesome you know it was built to last
Can't wait to own a GQ and do those things to it. I have one TD42 am eyeing. Hope the finances look up sooner. Just learning how to take care of it in advance 😊
Just give it a really good check for rust. They are really bad for it. Check underneath, in the engine bay, and around all windows as well as the door hinges.
@PhoenixSemen ooh sorry for the bad experience. I'm in kenya and within the metropolitan, so rust is not much of an issue. I'll be sure to look out for it though
That black oil is from Carbon, being a diesel, if you used a bypass filter that filtered down to say 2 micron the oil would stay a lot cleaner for longer, Or a bypass centrifuge filter can keep the oil very clean for the entire life of the oil.
Awesome video guys loved it! Just so you don’t run into that problem with the drain plug again, superior engineering make a heavy duty ring that welds around the drain plug and protects it from impacts
Tip. You can punch a screwdriver into the bottom side end of the oil filter and drain before removal. Don’t forget to use a jack on the vehicle to help drain the sump to get the remaining oil from it.
Should be filling you oil to the full mark on the dipstick. Also always undo the fill plug before you drain diffs, the same goes for gear boxes. Other then that good vid boys.
Hey, guys, I've got an 83 TD MQ patrol and wanted to know If they made aftermarket parts for the starter motor solenoid, getting annoying having to start her with the half-inch cheers
My mate has a 351 V8 in his Been sitting for a few years he put the distributor in 180 out and tried to start it for a while and it built up so much petrol in the block He then pulled out the dipstick a little bit to use as an earth to see if it had spark and the top of the dipstick hole caught on fire and he went to blow it out and tje flame went down and blew off the tops of his alloy rocker covers ,,,into little bits of shrapnel No injuries thank f
easy squeeze is really good. much better then a pump in my opinion. compared to Penrite, Castrol they are all good quality oils so can't really go wrong!
Nulon has been Australian owned and made top class oils and additives for years. And it was the only Brand I would use. Until now, that is. Nulon sold out to the German Oil Company, Fuchs, so merely for that fact, I'm changing to Penrite in support of Aussie companies.
Ive had a few issues with penrite trans oil on my old toyota altezza. Used the correct rating and shifting was really hard. Swapped to another brand and it was fine
@@Batt1eRage I'll bet you didn't write to Penrite for technical assistance, if you had a problem. I've used Penrite for more than 30 years in everything, and never had an issue.
Whats the outcome after using the fuel additive? Ive been holding off doing mine as a few people i know thats done it as had injector pump leaks/leaks after it cleaning all the build up out.. cheers lads good videos!!
If its never had it done before use it once and dont use it again i got an extra 200km out of the tank first use and havent seen the same results again since
Yeah i accidentally put trans oil in the motor and drained it straight away went from red when putting in to pitch black without engine even being started
I have a nissan terrano with an LSD at the rear, is it the same differential as you have on your patrol? I'm thinking about getting the same gear oil that you're using. Tnx
Rookie mistake. All ways undo the fill plug first on anything diffs and gearboxes. I learnt the hard way. Because if you can't undo the fill at least you still can drive the car.
Because 1hz's are a "newer" engine td42 was a forklift engine before nissan decided to put them in a car so thats why they had two filters less maintenance as you said but for a forklift application.
wheres mechanic dan ?
covid 19
HAHAHAHA
I only seem to keep watching these videos hoping something catastrophic will happen. #nodan suck a shame
@@JaCkOsMuThErFuKa go watch weekend F**kups EP2
Never undo a drain plug without undoing the fill plug first. If the fill plug is stuck and you empty the diff you're fk'd
Bahahahahhaha i bet your fun at partys
@@philpotsymington5374 I bet you're not

Thanks Nathan!
you should always undo the fill plugs first just in case they are stuck on so your not stuck with a empty diff, also helps the oil drop easier

Yeah Liam's about to do it this week!! cheers mate!
Good tip for bad bungs to undo, copper hammer and shock the plug to hopefully loosen the thread, use a chisel and hammer it, usually works for me

V nice, you might find that fuel additive causes your injector pump to start springing some leaks if the pumps never been reconditioned/serviced.
Ok thanks wethapeople!

Rear diff had the same issue was completely stuffed had to weld a bolt into it to undo it

should have just welded a big bolt onto it and put a big spanna or shifter on it

Do a service simmilar to that on a petrol
Should do fill plug first
Diesel Dan gone into iso? What’s next for the big kettle

Hi brother, I don't quite get where the oil in the dipstick indicates that it is full, is it under the weird twist of the rod at the tip?
Turbo time💨?

No gq leaf sprung rear diffs are twice the size they have a 10.5inch center if that helps

Hi how hard is it to replace a oil pump in a gq patrol tb42 eft 93
Take the filler out first then the drain in case you can not take the filler out and have drained the oil out and have no oil at all.
Can you guys fit a front diff lokka
Anyone here no much about tb42s. Got my eye on one. Is there anything I should know about the driveline in particular
They don’t like to be driven anywhere under boppa
Is 15-40 synthetic ok
In the spirit of micro managing your service (like all the other tips)... pour your oil out sideways so it doesn't go "bwlop bwlop bwlop bwlop"

Is that a 75 series Cruiser I see? 👀
good 👀
Get a suspension lift!!!
Very much agreed👍
We are trying to sort that out now!! any recommendations?
Not bad not bad
Looks like a fuel pump leaking with that stain on the diff
probably power steering fluid. Power steering leaks are sort of common on the GQ's
Did you use z503 aswell as a z115?
We used a Z115!
Do you do a trade?

You guys do your sump plugs up way to tight only needs to be done up by your fingers then nipped up
I'd love to work on my truck but I live nz and can't buy or do fucking nothing
