    I like that you call it "visiting the graveyard" as if you're not there grave robbing. Just visiting, no ill intentions. As always, love your explanations. Love your playthroughs. Excellent video.

    Thank you for bringing this game to my attention! I bought it after watching this video and just played it for the first time today. So many fun decisions and theme ties. I can tell I'll be playing this a lot.

    My first impression was "wow what a busy board." After learning the rules, it all made sense and removed that initial impression of how busy it looked, and I knew I was going to love it before even starting the game. I loved that first play so much, I bought it that evening and even played the print-n-play version the next day waiting for it to arrive.

    I have played this so many times over a cup of coffee and some toast in the morning before getting things going... I just lost any sense of count after I got an extremely early P&P copy for some testing way back when. This is one of the easiest games to return to again and again and again. I've adored the production and all the love that got put into things with the solo support and all the character cards and whatnot. And the boards! They went all out with the hard cardboard tri-folds. And as noted, I don't think I'd be the only person interested in a larger set of boards just to let the art and everything breath a little bit, but I get it for the form factor of everything they do stuff into that little box.
    If you have even the inkling of interest in roll/flip and writes, or westerns, or poker, I can't properly recommend this game enough!
    And thank you so much for the great breakdown and playthrough as always.

      That's wonderful to hear that you love Fliptown! Also sounds like a wonderful morning routine you have there =) Totally agree, it's so much fun to return to especially considering how much there is to explore. Thanks so much!

    This game arrived yesterday, and it was wonderful to have you on in the background as we "played it together!" Thanks for teaching the rules, and I look forward to seeing how well this goes over with my Board Game Cafe group, which loves Fleet the Dice Game. Cheers

    This game is excellent! One of the few times taking a gamble on a crowdfunded game I wasn't 100% sure of has paid of. Probably my favourite X&Write at the moment

    Kudos to your ability not to blur anything on the board. Quite impressive, plus you guys (also naveen) always do a great job explaining the games, kudos to that too.

    Fliptown is up there with Dinosaur Island Rawr n Write as my favorite roll/flip and write games.
    It has the classic combo feel of a more traditional (verb) and write game, but also feels very sandbox-y. You can really lean into a strategy and tell yourself a story about your character.
    Plays great both solo and multiplayer and keeps a quick tempo every round. Love it!

      Ahh so cool that you love it too, Eric! It's very funny at higher player counts too, just a great experience

      Agree, I don't typically write roll and writes because they're not very thematic or deep, but I own both Fliptown and Rawr and Write and love both!

      me and Rich were rubbing the deck very sensually, hoping to seduce the right cards out of it towards the end of the game... and lo and behold! Rich got the exact numbers he needed to complete his straight. Very ironic. XD@@BeforeYouPlay

    this looks so fun!!
    it would be great if you made a video of good solo games (like this one that are not super rule heavy and complicated, like for a chill afternoon sort of thing)
    i feel like a lot of us love board games but dont have who to play with. i try to get games with good/decent solo plays!
    thanks for a great video :)

    Hey monique! To answer your first question (1st hand of the game), the ace is a better choice as a poker card. since its your first card, you might as well shoot for a royal flush.

    I only play solo and I think they've done a good job with this game.
    Although the print on the board is tiny, I soon learned the general layout - and I'm not a fan of complex games.
    I love the poker 'game', too.
    I haven't yet achieved the top rank at the standard game but when I do I'll play against a cowbot.
    I prefer Three Sisters but there is more going on in Fliptown, which is good.
    Great video. Thank you.

    I backed this on KS and am so happy I did! Really fun multi-player and solo game. Part of the fun of this game is taking risks with the sheriff card as well as in the badlands area. We love playing the Texas Hold 'em variant because it makes it easier to get a decent poker hand. Also, I've played with the Cowbots (solo) and it's a lot of fun. This game takes a bit of explaining to get started (especially when you get to the Town area of the board) but have found that once players get into it the game flows. I'm thinking that maybe in a reprint they can address the small font issue. Other than that, it's a perfect game (for me)! Was a pleasant surprise to see you posting today and GG! (Better luck next time in the Badlands.) 🤪

    I kickstarted this and was generally quite pleased with it. I haven't played it solo (I don't tend to very often). it felt nice and crunchy with a lot of choices. AS far as the point totals go, I think pushing things and using your gold a little more often can elevate your score.
    And I totally agree it's a nice meaty game with a pretty short play time for how much is going on. I will also add, that playing it in low light conditions is extremely not ideal for the washed out art and smaller print. I think it looks nice but I struggled.

    We looked at both Pioneer Rails and Fliptown, and ended up getting Pioneer Rails because we didn't feel the need for both. Fliptown still seems delightful tho! But Monique may like that Pioneer Rails only has Ten to Ace and suit doesn't matter, so the 'poker' part can be a little more forgiving 😅

    Curious about the player count - is it just a reflection of the components or do you think it would break down in some way at higher counts?

    • @BeforeYouPlay
      @BeforeYouPlay  11 месяцев назад

      Hmmm I'm not quite sure I understand your question! What do you mean by "break down"? We've played it at higher player counts so maybe I can try to help

    • @getgaymin
      @getgaymin 10 месяцев назад

      My first play of this was at 4, and it is pretty mutli-player solitaire overall, so I don't think throwing more players would affect much other than waiting for other players to finish their turn if they're doing a lot of combo-ing. We may end up getting a second copy at some point just to accomodate a 5th or 6th player and see how it goes, tho.

    I may be wrong, but can you forego your cards and visit the Cemetery in the final turn? I had the impression that was a single use ability.

    • @BeforeYouPlay
      @BeforeYouPlay  11 месяцев назад +2

      From what I understand, foregoing your cards to visit the Cemetery is something you can always choose to do if you don't like your lineup

    • @getgaymin
      @getgaymin 10 месяцев назад

      Definitely a thing you can do consistently; the Cemetery is basically like a Wild Fifth area, as far as actions go.

      Probably true for most roll/flip &writes! There was a print and play option available during the KS campaign.

    • @damaddestgamer
      @damaddestgamer 11 месяцев назад

      @@JonTripp115 yeah I guess. The ones with custom cards/dice I would be less inclined to print off. But considering this uses a standard deck of cards - all I need is the player mat (which can be several pages printed and used along side each other).

    • @suemoore7779

      I bought the print n' play version first and it does give you everything you need. I do prefer the retail version more, mainly for the quality main boards, but I appreciate that both options exist.

    • @trogman

      The low ink color version with PnP actually looks better IMO. I was also able to enlarge the board to 4 separate letter sized paper. Text is still rather small. I don't know how this is selling for $40 CDN.
