Fantastic interview. I so love Eric Hovind and his ministry I have to interview him.
This has taught me a lot about creationism. Thank you. Was very curious.
Great waste of time.
To believe in an older earth does not mean that someone is a “naturalist”. Many Christians (including well known ones such as Michael Heiser and William Lane Craig) hold an old earth view. His 2nd claim is that this view started with the gap theory in the 1800s, completely disregarding the literary framework view that has existed over a thousand years before that. If he’s right, he should have no need to misrepresent the facts on the matter.
Yeah but it means you don’t believe what GOD said. In 6 days he made the heavens plural and the earth. Making a covenant with Israel all the work he did in 6 days. It couldn’t be more clear.
You’re very keen to take a literal interpretation of genesis. Shouldn’t you do the same with Numbers 31:17?? Or Isaiah 13:16? Let me guess, these verses are just out of context, even though they come from the infallible, god inspired, word of god.
@@aznation4592 if it couldn’t be more clear, why were there plenty of Christians before Darwin or science who believed in an older earth. Who the book was written to is just as important as reading it literally. You can’t do one without the other. I am undecided on the topic but young earthers are so unaware of the arguments against their point of view
@@elijah4767same reason many think god burns people forever, they don’t let the Bible speak for itself. Who cares what man’s opinions are what does GOD say ? Was it 6 days or not that’s all we see in scripture.
@@aznation4592 if you believe that every view that YOU have is because YOU are letting the Bible speak for itself then there’s no point in having this discussion. Clearly your interpretation of the Bible reigns supreme over all others. I commented because he misrepresented the opposing view. That’s it
What is the significance of lying about reality and science?
Young Earth creationists are forced to lie when they talk about any field of science related to the age of the Earth, biological evolution, and several other fields. They don't have a choice. Their entire belief system will come crashing down if they don't.
Charles Darwin is a freemason they like deceiving people
@@psalms1506 so is Santa clause
Just curious, if the earth is young then how are diamonds formed?
Exactly
Diamonds are formed quickly when under extreme pressure. We do it today. The same is true of coal. Coal and diamonds have carbon-14 in them. That is difficult to explain if they are billions of years old.
@@neilnolte2587 the Carbon 14 allegedly detected by creationist “scientists” is almost certainly attributable to normal background radiation or contamination - there is carbon 14 in the air, and most samples aren’t stored in a hard vacuum. As for diamonds being formed quickly, yes, we can do it. But there is zero evidence natural processes duplicate conditions we manage to artificially create.
Pressure.
@@kingdomseekers1973 so is your position that millions of scientists all around the world have been lying for several decades, or are they just wrong and you know better?
It's always interesting when young Earth creationists think they know more about science than scientists. For some reason, they think they know more about these highly specialized fields than the professionals who actually work in these fields. It's very odd.
I can't find a Young Earth Creationism Book in Español.
Try Answers in Genesis. They have a website, and can refer to other websites.
Creationists believe in a myth with no proof of it ever occurring
I would argue that I have a mountain of evidence, but I'm sure you're not interested in seeing it even if I offered to present it to you, nor would any evidence actually change your mind.
@@miankegreyling1033 Every piece of evidence has been debunked.
@@miankegreyling1033 you are projecting. It is the mind of the young Earth creationist that cannot be changed. No evidence will change their minds, because they did not need or use any evidence to arrive at their *beliefs*
You can't reason a person out of a position they did not reason themselves into in the first place. (I forgot who first said that, and I probably butchered the quote a bit)
Anyway, Science is based on data and evidence. If there were data and evidence supporting a 'young' Earth, it would have been published in relevant science journals a long, long time ago.
You don't have mountains of evidence, you have mountains of *beliefs*
@@travisbicklepopsicle My friend, I am not a young earth creationist because of belief, I am a young earth creationist because of evidence. I used to believe in evolution, and I would've fought till death to prove that young earth creationists were idiots when I held that belief. I was the biggest sceptic out there. I know that you won't accept any type of evidence. I mean, just look at our other friend's comment here saying 'everything was debunked', yet I have not even presented anything yet. Legitimate evidence could smack you right in the face, and you would still not believe it. I know, because I was there.
I don't mean any malice with my comment, you are free to choose what you want to believe and I have the biggest respect for you for taking on everyone and being so passionate. Please, just take some time to do a deep study about it. And I mean DEEP. Take the time to dig through claims, and credible evidence for those claims. You won't be sorry, trust me.
@@miankegreyling1033 I am sorry but there is no evidence for a young Earth. What most people will give as evidence are fallacies, false information, or stuff that has nothing to do with aging the Earth. I will explain in better detail and give an example for each.
For example a fallacy often used is God of the gaps. They will try to say not knowing something means God must have done it. Science is not a contest. There are no winners by default.
An example of false information they will use is how the moon is moving away from the Earth. It moves slightly away each year by about 1.4 inches. If you do the math the moon would be about 100,000 miles closer billions of years ago. However creationists like to claim it would've been touching the Earth. This is a fact easily checked upon and the math is easy to calculate but still brought up often among young Earth creationists.
Finally an example of giving evidence that actually does not date the Earth would be something like the age of the oldest living tree. That is like dating the Earth based on the oldest human or oldest white shark. Organisms are not immortal and die. It makes zero sense but creationists still often use this argument.
So can you please give a single piece of evidence for a young Earth?
Eric, any relation to Young Earth Creationist Evangelist Kent Hovind (Pensacola, FL)?
Father
I wonder if he beats women, like his dad.
In the universe today, there are new planets being born, forming in other solar systems.
Yet, none of them took 7 days. It actually takes millions of years for any new planets to form completely.
Because in the universe, there are no stars that are able to materialize out of thin air just because the creator says "let there be stars". Any forming object in space actually takes millions of years to materialize.
No offense but that's a really dumb statement imo. God could easily bring a star into existence in a second from out of nothing , because he is Almighty and powerful able to do anything.... I don't get why you don't concede to that or understand it ?
@@GershomDeol Okay, so you're saying planets can form instantaneously?
If so, NASA would be surprised that there are new planets emerging out of nowhere that appear to be newborn and they would have said something about it already for planets being born instantaneously.
@@jaguar004 no I'm not saying planets form instantaneously now today . I'm saying in the beginning God formed the earth and stars instantaneously. And designed them to recreate, reproduce if you will, them selves over and over. Kind of like mankind. God created Adam and eve instantaneously but they reproduce and create more humans but their reproductions are not instantaneous , it takes 9 months for a child to be created in the womb and be born. God created everything instantaneously but designed the universe to re produce after its self. So I start dies and gravity of the old start will give birth to a new one over long periods of time..
@@jaguar004 I do believe in micro evolution too, like changes within a type of animal
@@GershomDeol Are we talking about how planets form in our universe today or micro evolution?
I don't think I'm getting you.
And don't be too put off because every discipline of science disproves it.
That is false science
Good job Eric!!!!
Got Questions has been a lovely resource for me on several questions in times past. On this business of Young Earth Creationism, however, I believe the position of Got Questions is a naive one. I'm not here to debate you; I'm here to direct you and your staff to the work of John Lennox; if you don't know him, relax--he's one of the good guys.
When we speak of "a plain reading of Scripture," we will surely agree that we mean one that is free from equivocation and needless complication. Even so, we do The Spirit a disservice if we do not allow the possibility that His powers of signification greatly exceed our own. Ask yourselves this question: How many ways can an utterance make sense? Can you list them in the case of every human utterance? How's about for every utterance of The Spirit? How would you know if you'd gotten them all? How could you be sure you hadn't missed one?
People have spoken against the day/age interpretation of Genesis, yet it is the only one that fits the text and the facts; again, search out the works of Lennox for more on this. It's important not to march in a lock-step fashion on any point of faith or science simply because one believes he can do no better, or that no one else has done any better to date. In other words, in this matter in particular, not espousing a position is better than wedding oneself to a naive one just for the sake of being able to claim you've got one. Persons seeking Christ will be put off by dogma resting upon anything that could be mistaken for fatuity or soft-headedness. As Willy Wonka once said, "You should never ever doubt what no one is sure about."
😂😂😂
Atheism is such a breath of fresh air.
My life is uncomplicated by the need to bend into a pretzel arguing that my batsh*t crazy truth is the absolute truth.
Instead, I care about living a good and meaningful life, not because I need to rack up points to get into heaven, but because life is precious.
@@kingdomseekers1973Creationism is a form of brainwashing. That you even have to ask that question blows my mind. You are taught to believe that those who dismiss creationism have no moral compass.
I’m sorry your breathe of “fresh air” is to ignore trying to figure out true reality and why we are really here
@@kingdomseekers1973 hey sorry, my last post was directed @aegis original post. He said he has a breathe of fresh air as an atheist
@@kingdomseekers1973 I don’t need to answer your question. Your demand only tells me you’re defensive and triggered-how dare I claim to be living a moral and meaningful life without your God?!
@@federov100 they can't imagine living a life like that :-)
I worked part-time at a grocery store a few years back, and a customer found somebody's wallet, and I heard him saying to someone else, 'I'm a Christian, so I want to make sure this gets back to its owner; I'm taking it to the 'lost and found' at the customer service desk'..
I remember thinking, really? I would have done the same because it's the kind thing to do. Don't need a book to tell me that😳
Sometimes certain religious people scare me..
Believing in a young earth isn't a core principle of faith in Jesus. Every aspect of science disproves young earth
Actually it is just the opposite. Most of the evidence points to a young universe not an old one. For example, fresh organic tissue in unfossilized T-Rex bones. Are you aware of this?
@@AugustO-yq6plDude, young earth teaches plants existed before the sun did.
@@clay8546 Yes, the plants were created before the sun, stars, etc. and?
@@gusolsthoorn1002 the earth would be a giant ice ball without the sun…. And you know plants exist because of the sun right?
@@clay8546 You cannot import one version of history into another and expect it to make sense. There are two versions (at least) of the origin of the cosmos. The naturalistic one says that natural processes and force shaped the universe. The other is that God created the universe from nothing. The Genesis account is clearly written to preclude the naturalistic account, in that it presents the order of events which could not have taken place (as you have pointed out) through natural means. Both accounts are taken by faith, since no human was present in the beginning. So either we take God at his word, who was there at the beginning, or we take the opinion of people who weren't.
Old earthers aren't sincere.
To teach this nonsense to children is child abuse.
Something can't come from nothing. Go carbon date your sandwich and you'll know why it's BS. There are dozens of methods for dating that would give a young earth outcome, but scientists use the single method that makes it billions of years old. Why? To discredit the bible. The wisdom of man is folly to God. He is the law, he is the beginning and the end.
@@tessah.7641 The Earth is 4.54 billion years old. Get over it, and grow up. Carbon dating is not used to date the age of the Earth anyway. Creationism is bat shit crazy. Young Earth Creationism takes that to an even greater level of craziness.
I’d rather teach my kid that God created heaven and earth than that they can choose their own gender… that’s true child abuse lol
@@timothyvenable3336 So you’d teach your children as fact, something for which there is absolutely no evidence.
@@SuperEdge67 the point I was making is choosing your own gender is complete nonsense and incredibly unhealthy mentally. In my opinion, that’s child abuse, putting that kind of pressure on a young kid, not to mention its not even scientifically correct to say there’s more than one gender…
But yes there is evidence for God creating heaven and earth and that’s what I will SHOW my kids. Whether they believe is another story. I’ll give them all the facts and they’ll discover what is true
This has taught me a lot about creationism. Thank you. Was very curious.
