For jesus historicists, its often common to cite the references to Jesus in Josephus. Josephus is a very famous Jewish historian who actually lived in the first century (from 37-100 ce). Mythicists have been asking for contemporary accounts of a historical Jesus and Josephus seems to be a popular place to look (Josephus actually wasnt a contemporary, but I guess they figure its close enough). The jesus that most people talk about, of course is the one that was born around the year zero and died around the year 33. Josephus does mention Jesus, or actually multiple Jesus', but none of his authentic writing references the Jesus that all christians know and love. So today, we will be discussing Josephus on Jesus.

It seems a lot of people commenting are confused as to the purpose of this video. The purpose of this video is NOT to prove Jesus didn't exist. The purpose was to show that if you want to prove the existence of a historical Jesus, you shouldn't use Josephus, because his testimonium is likely a forgery and the James reference is an interpolation. In the video, I show the reasons I am convinced it's not authentic. You can feel free to disagree with the conclusions I come to. In fact, I welcome that. But don't get caught up in a strawman, claiming this video is used to show Jesus didn't exist. Because that's not what the video is about.

Milwaukee Atheists your scholarship is crap and your theory is without any merit, there are two statements made by Josephus one is in question, with scholarship tending to believe it an interpolation the other is not. You can have an opinion but you act as if Josephus statements are in question in the academic community when in fact it's not and this question has been settled in the academic community. Your a fraud.

Milwaukee Atheists Josephus was writing to Gentiles right? And if you consider the fact that Paul sailed by Africa three times and never stopped the Holy Spirit forbid the disciples to preach the word in Asia in the book of Acts it would seem more probable that Josephus was writing to a specific crowd..

I am a Christian, but I am always seeking the truth. I appreciate the work you did on this video. I understand where you are coming from on this, and I want to say thanks. I have referenced Josephus work in the past as proof for Christ's existence (for those who have wanted a source of his existence outside the Bible). Honestly, if I were debating you, I would have painted myself into a corner had I referenced Josephus. You have made me a little wiser. This is something I need to delve into (Josephus). Although you haven't changed my opinion in Jesus' existence, you have made me realize that Josephus, based on his writing style, may not be the one who actually penned the references toward Jesus. Though you are an atheist, I will be praying for you.

Christianity had its Time of Rage
This is for those who are in doubt of the cruel massacre of the Catholic Church.
It is in much of the history that you can find on line. And it is all in the encyclopedia of universal knowledge; it has three volumes or books, the volume it is in is missing in the Washington D C library. The Catholic and Protestants did not want the information known, evidently.
C B Pershall, My Male parent was taking care of the Electric dynamos on the little Salmon River dam. He was furnished a house to live in and in the attic of the house he ran across this Encyclopedia of Universal Knowledge. He read all about how that during the time of the Catholic massacring those who would not come under their religion, those who was faithful to Jesus’ teaching went under cover, in secret correspondence. Some moved to new arias. It even named the places they fled to.
C B Pershall did not take the encyclopedia with him as he considered it would be stealing. It was not his and he did not know where to find the owner.
Years later when I was ten to twelve years old C B Pershall began to search for the Encyclopedia. He spent much money in his search.
Then, when C B Pershall and I were working in the fields of strawberries, we saw a man climbing over the fence. The man was a Britannica Encyclopedia sales man.
I got a shock of my life when I heard my male parent tell the man that he would buy two sets of Encyclopedias if he could find the information that he wanted.
My male parent gives the man all the information that he had found in the Encyclopedia years before.
The man said that it would not be a problem. He said it would be all in the library in Washington D C.
A month later the man came back in the evening. He said all the volumes were there except the volume that was needed for the information we wanted.
The Catholic and her protestant little children truly must not want that information public.
My male parent still search in many book stores for the Encyclopedia with no success.
I did not read about this in a book, or dream it. It was the life I lived.
The same is with George and his daughter’s gift of filling teeth with gold. It was experience that I lived I did not read it from a book.
I do realize that it is very difficult to understand our Father the Great Creator’s existence and realm of truth without proof and experience it in this life.
George one of my many dear brothers’ and his daughter had the Gift of miraculously filling teeth with gold. His daughter would invite some to watch the gold pour into the tooth. And five of the fillings that George witnessed had diamond in-beds.
If the scientists of today had witnessed these things in life perhaps they would understand True Science much better.
In may seem strange that there were many hundreds of teeth miraculously filled, in their time. Many more than the miracles that it tells about in the book that Christianity worships.
Perhaps the reason is quite simple; Rome was a powerful dominion that promoted their Idolatry Religion the worship of gods, Christianity.
Just words to the honest and wise: honesty and understanding is the only true belief. Without honesty and understanding we do not know what to believe.
To accept others opinion of the truth without proving it to yourself; it is being deceived it is not believing.
Until Next time; Sweet Dreams: truth will solve all our problems before we create them; and ignore or reject the truth; problems will multiply all by themselves.
Have a great and a meaningful life if it is at all possible.
Just whispers of the Ghost of Reality

Look for evidence of any census where people had to go to the city of their ancestors.
Personally I think that the story is evidence that there was a real person.
A real person born in the wrong city, why else make up the census story?
You can't find the truth staying wrong.

True Reality of Our Time in History
First: The honest do not claim authority. We just present our honest thoughts and compassionate spirit.
We are living in a day that conglomerates are the in thing conglomerate are very popular.
We just throw everything into one pot. It is all races, all religion, all cultures and all dominions to be dumped into one pot to make a great healthy soup, supposedly.
There is to be no individualism.
We are to be just carbon copies; of what?
However, this conglomerate it is not success for humanity’s peaceful coexistence.
We are looking into the face and reality of the New World Order.
This is where the top-dog of the Catholic Church stands today; he is willing to accept all religions into the conglomerate, even the Muslims and Atheists.
Accepting them all into this conglomerate is the tactics of taking full control of all of them.
This happened once with all religions back in the time of the Roman Empire.
Consentience pretended to be converted to the teaching of Jesus that seemed to be very popular at that time.
Then, he cunningly prepared a great conglomerate soup of religion. It was all of the god worshiping religions, including his own sun god, with a portion of Jesus’ teaching.
It was the Roman Catholic Church known as Christianity.
Constantine also created a book of law to be worship, to make this soup more powerful.
To put the teeth in to this book of laws he put this on the end.
If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
Hell and purgatory was well laced into the whole thing to put that godly fear in to the subjects of the dominion.
Segregation is proper and the way of justice. It is not by race, but it is by lifestyle or culture. It is truly freedom.
Segregation is how scientist achieves purity.
To be forced to live under a certain culture is not freedom, it is tyranny.
Being White, Green, or Purple does not make you an American.
Those who truly have life achieves it from our Father the Great Creator. It is not achieved from a book and tradition.
Since our Father can miraculously fill a tooth with gold, why would our Father need a manmade book to bring true life to humanity? Our Father the Great Creator’s spiritual realm is very powerful. It is beyond human comprehension.
Honesty is to do with ourselves.
      No others are involved.
And our honesty is the key to wisdom.

What Christian apologists don't tell you about the Josephus reference:
    1. The majority of biblical scholars today say this is an obvious forgery
    2. The early Church Fathers quoted extensively from Josephus in written defenses of Christianity, and NEVER quote this passage for hundreds of years from 100-300 CE although it would be the first thing they would've quoted had it existed.
    3. The quote first appears in the Fourth Century from Eusebius, a Christian bishop who curated the Library of Caesarea, and who is implicated in forging numerous documents in defense of Christianity and lying to defend the Church.
    4. "all the manuscripts we have of Josephus all derive from the single manuscript used by Eusebius around 300 A.D. at the Library of Caesarea, a library he curated."
    www.richardcarrier.info/archives/11209
    5. The passsage interrupts the text. If you take it out, the text flows together smoothly. Simply read it for yourself.

Regarding the Testimonium, absolutely correct. Josephus wouldn't write "won them over", he would say "because of him they embraced the jewish religion". He would also have called him an Innovator, as he did to everyone teaching novel interpretations of the Law. Also, Josephus wouldn't say "doer of wonderful deeds" because he didn't quite believe in supernatural things at face value, he reported them as fables but would make clear that many people testified to it. It also uses christian language (those that loved Jesus did not forsake him) that reflects on church history and apostolic fidelity.

And there were more than one Jewish liberation movements. Certainly the equivalents of the Judean People's Front and the People's Front of Judea occupied parts of Jerusalem and fought each other as well as the Romans. Extrapolating to Jesus, we find that Christians call him "an offshoot (Netzer) of David the Prince (Nasi) so that, perhaps, Nazarenes/Nazoreans were the ancient equivalent of the Branch Davidians but operated more like a Communist cell (see what the Sanhedrin's attorney said of Paul in Acts 24 and you'll get the idea).
Lawyer: "He is a troublemaker, one who stirs up Israel, and a ringleader of the sect of the Branch Davidians!"
Paul: "I am NOT a leader of the Branch Davidian People's Front of Judea, *but!..."*

Great work. How do you feel about the use of "brother" to mean "follower" rather than "biological brother"? English isn't the only language to use "bro" or equivalent to mean friend. It's also used in modern Hebrew (akh אח), though this might be from foreign influences, just as Hebrew uses the same word for friend (khaver חבר) to mean friend, boyfriend, and also member (of parliament or a club)... I'm a translator and I always wonder whether we're imposing our own cultural references onto ancient translations.

Brother of Jesus was a term used by Paul explicitly, and he explains this, to refer to followers of Jesus because he considered them all "brothers in the eyes of the lord, but with jesus as the first among them" or somesuch nonsense. The point being, it was typical early christian talk.

    • @pdoylemi
      @pdoylemi 7 лет назад +3

There is nothing wrong with being suspicious about it. That is what leads to honest skepticism. But honest skepticism requires that you check (and not just from Christian sources) the information given. Having done my own research on Josephus, I found nothing wrong in this, and not even a Christian that disputes the actual data. They will dispute conclusions such as the assumption that the Jesus referred to as the brother of James was the son of Damneus, and at least one apologist I have read relies on the use of the Christ reference to do so. But that seems very weak indeed. Josephus was writing this for the Flavians - pagan Romans - and the term would not have meant anything to them. But the idea that the Jesus referenced in the first part, was the Jesus specified in the last part of the story makes perfect sense.
If someone were to write, *_"Thomas, the brother of Patrick did speak to the CEO of a tech start up, and the CEO was moved by his words, and Patrick, son of Joseph Doyle was given a contract as a consultant."_* Would anyone think that the Patrick referred to in the first part was Patrick Stewart? Or Patrick Henry? No. They would automatically know that I was the Patrick in question. If that was NOT the intent, any halfway sane author would write, *_"and a different Patrick, known as an actor, was given a contract."_* Of course that would make little sense, as it would provide no context for why I was even mentioned, or why Patrick Stewart got a contract and not me.

I think that it is amazing that people post videos about Josephus when they don’t actually read his works in it’s entirety. Major flaws in this video and missing key passages in Josephus works that can actually give credit that Jesus existed. I find that most people actually never read Josephus but do google searches to find the answers they want. The problem with this is it is just like when people google verses from the Bible to get what they want from it. It’s a big book and without context you can get it wrong. Josephus is even more difficult to read than the Bible. So if you don’t actually read it in context you too can get things wrong. Don’t just go off what this guy or anyone on the internet says. Read the book for yourself to come to your own conclusions. You will find that I am right really early on in you reading that most people don’t know what they are talking about and never read it for themselves

Gregorian and Julian calendars are only separated by a few days: the Orthodox Church still follows the Julian calendar and their holidays are approximately two weeks after the Western ones. The Russian Revolution dates (February Revolution, October Revolution) are remembered in the Julian calendar and again the difference is around 13 days, so these revolutionary events happened early in March and November of our calendar. When the Gregorian calendar was first adopted in 1582, only 10 days had to be erased. So for long periods there is no difference between both calendars.

Neither in the Julian nor Gregorian systems is there a year zero. You might remember at the turn of the arguments over if 2000 or 2001 was the millennium. Dennis the Short, the monk who numbered the years since the birth of Christ, numbered his first year 1, instead of year 0.

The Flavian generals were sent to put down the successful Maccabean revolt.
With a lot of bloodshed they were successful. Judea was littered with crucifixion.
Josephus saw the Roman legions coming and he fell at the Flavian foot, begging for mercy, which was granted.
Josephus saw three of his friends being crucified.
He begged the Flavians to spare them.
The Romans, being of good humour, told him to pick one.
The Flavians returned to Rome with Josephus in tow.
They were crowned emperor. This marked the beginning of the Flavian dynasty.
The Flavians asked Josephus's advice about what to do about the Jewish question.
Josephus said that they had to create a kinder, gentler Messiah for the Jews to follow.
    So they did that.
    So there you have it.
"Jesus Christ" was a Roman propaganda invention to defang the Maccabees.
How does that make you feel?

Do you have any citations for that assertion?
Given that Israel was completely destroyed, and any survivors became slaves would indicate that the culture came to a sudden hault. Therefore, no need for the creation of a “suffering messiah”.
“We wiped everyone out so let’s create a benign religion for them so they are not a threat” explanation rather ludacris.
Saying it was created is one thing, for the reasons you give is quite another.
The better question is, how did a religion of a people, who were wiped of the face of the earth, end up resurfacing more than a millennia later in Europe, and in an ethnicity of people who weren’t even present at the place of origination?

There is no 'proof' and there isn't even historically credible evidence. There are only hearsay claims by anonymous Christian scribes from hundreds of years after the supposed events, and these scribes were notorious for forgery and fraud. Dr. Hector Avalos, "As with Josephus, so with Tacitus our observations must be tempered by the fact that the earliest manuscript of the Annals comes from the 11th century." www.amestrib.com/article/20130302/Opinion/303029936
When people quote 'Josephus', they are quoting an 11th century manuscript written by Christian scribes. If you claim that this is an accurate portrayal of what Josephus or Tacitus actually wrote, the burden of proof is on you. And you have none. But we can prove that Christian scribes engaged in rampant forgery and fraud. Dr. Bart Ehrman, "At least 11 of the 27 New Testament books are forgeries...Many of the New Testament’s forgeries were manufactured by early Christian leaders trying to settle theological feuds." religion.blogs.cnn.com/2011/05/13/half-of-new-testament-forged-bible-scholar-says/

Additionally, our earliest manuscript with this forged passage is dated to the *11th century* , 1,000 years after Josephus was alive. And Josephus wasn't even born until 37 CE, and could've had no personal knowledge of Jesus even if we had the original manuscript from the 1st Century. The fact that Christians have to cite an 11th Century manuscript containing proven forgeries and fraud shows their level of desperation. Try learning what source credibility is: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_method#Core_principles_for_determining_reliability

I believe there is a God, but I can't follow any organized religion. I remember being 5 or 6 years old in Sunday school, and the teacher was telling the story of Jonah and the whale. The teacher was telling it like it was a true story, and the other kids seemed to be accepting it as such. I remember just sitting there stunned, am I crazy, or is everyone else in this room crazy to believe this? I think that this moment in my life led me to question everything, and to study Christianity to try to get to the truth about what it is. In other words, the brainwashing of my young mind didn't work.

Talking to a friend of my roommate after she said that she was Jewish, telling her that Jesus was a Jew. She said : No, I don't believe you. A Jew would never do this or that I forgot the detail but she knew of many examples of behaviors that no Jew would ever adopt. It is refreshing to find a diversity of opinion even within people who are born and lived in the same country all their live. That woman is not living in a gated community, she is not restricted to talk to anybody, read any book or watch any TV documentary, etc. She has tattoo, wear jeans and black leather vest and look and talk like a "rocker", a fan of Ozzy osbourne, Metalicca, etc.
Today, I learned where many of the definitions of religious expressions come from. I read or saw a documentary on TV that the sadduceans where the symbol of a skeptics way of thinking. The pharisees were those who interpret literally the Talmud, applying the law word for word without respecting the spirit, not understanding the actual goal that the law was trying to reach.
Sometimes, we can come across a book or somebody who gives a surprising number of precise detail about something that is poorly documented in the only official "word of God". For example, some people can go on and on about one of the 12 disciple of Jesus, Peter, who would allegedly have started the Catholic church. My personal experience with Catholics, the dominant religion in Quebec, is not inspiring much credibility. It is easy to become Atheist after being raised in such religion imported from a totally foreign land.
The youtube user Yahuda101 wrote a large number of comments directly under the main one from, the this video, Milwaukee Atheists. Each one is high quality, well documented, each one flowing logically. How does he react to kabbalist point of view from another youtube user who make wild connections between Hebrew words based on the first letter on each paragraph ? Since there is no dialogue possible with somebody who develop such specialized schizophrenia, Yahuda101 simply ignore it and continue expanding on the vast knowledge from the Jewish literature.
I realize today that if I would have spent more time to study religion, instead of science, electronic and software engineering, I would eventually discover the source of all these ideas that people debate today. It seems that the historian Josephus would be such fundamental "root", the common ancestor from where every branch and leaves attach and suck their energy.
I would then know that Jesus was a generic name for many distinct people. I would know that the 4 gospels are a nice compilation of stories trying to merge all these stories in a single continuous one, a simplified version easier to understand for most people. Armed with that knowledge, it would be more fun to debate with ordinary people about what Jesus did or would do.

Tremendous work to uncover the clear idiosyncrasies of the author Josephus...and the monumental conclusion that he did NOT know the Jesus of the bible, instead he wrote about several others Jesus's of that time.

@@edharianto8933 No honest or informed person cites Josephus as 'evidence' for a historical Jesus, because they know it contains PROVEN FORGERIES. Dr. Paul Hopper, Distinguished Professor at Carnegie Mellon University: "The most likely explanation is that the entire passage is interpolated, presumably by Christians embarrassed at Josephus’s manifest ignorance of the life and death of Jesus." existenciadecristo.files.wordpress.com/2017/04/a-narrative-anomaly-in-josephus.pdf Dr. Michael Martin, professor at Boston University, "Biblical scholars are almost in uniform agreement that this passage is spurious--a Christian interpolation--and, consequently, that it cannot be taken seriously as independent confirmation of the historicity of Jesus." books.google.com/books?isbn=1566390818
Additionally, our earliest manuscript with this forged passage is dated to the 11th century---1,000 years after Josephus was alive. And Josephus wasn't even born until 37 CE, and could've had no personal knowledge of Jesus even if we had the original manuscript from the 1st Century. The fact that Christians have to cite an 11th Century manuscript containing proven forgeries and fraud shows how desperate they are to grasp at straws to prop up their 'historical Jesus' claims. *FACT* There are no contemporary accounts of Christ from any source, in or outside the Bible. Period. All you have are hearsay claims by non-eyewitnesses where your earliest manuscripts date hundreds of years or more after the supposed events, and which are corrupted by forgery and fraud. No credible source supports your claims.

    • @mythbuster1483

You've been misinformed. Let's look at Tacitus, as I've already debunked Josephus above. Even the Encyclopedia Brittanica states that the Tacitus reference "does not provide independent evidence about Jesus." www.britannica.com/biography/Jesus/The-Jewish-religion-in-the-1st-century#ref748595 This is because Tacitus was born in 56 CE and could have no personal knowledge of Jesus, and the Annals was originally written in 116 CE--which is well after the gospel stories were in circulation. At best, even if we had the original 2nd century manuscript handwritten by Tacitus, the reference would be only hearsay. But what we *ACTUALLY* have is a single 11th century manuscript written by Christian scribes who were notorious for forgery, fiction, and fraud. There were 1,000 years of hand-copying and edits between the original manuscript and our earliest copy of it. If Christians claim that this passage is authentic, where is their evidence to prove it? There is none. Why should anyone *ASSUME* , on faith, that a manuscript written by members of a human sacrifice cult (with both motive and opportunity to lie) contains a valid representation of what Tacitus wrote 1,000 years previously? Is this credible evidence according to standards of the historical method? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_method#Core_principles_for_determining_reliability

Were you aware that Josephus also claimed to have received what appeared to witnesses as a mortal head wound?
      3. In the mean time, Josephus, as he was going round the city, had his head wounded by a stone that was thrown at him; upon which he fell down as giddy. Upon which fall of his the Jews made a sally, and he had been hurried away into the city, if Caesar had not sent men to protect him immediately; and as these men were fighting, Josephus was taken up, though he heard little of what was done. So the seditious supposed they had now slain that man whom they were the most desirous of killing, and made thereupon a great noise, in way of rejoicing. This accident was told in the city, and the multitude that remained became very disconsolate at the news, as being persuaded that he was really dead, on whose account alone they could venture to desert to the Romans. But when Josephus's mother heard in prison that her son was dead, she said to those that watched about her, That she had always been of opinion, since the siege of Jotapata, [that he would be slain,] and she should never enjoy him alive any more. She also made great lamentation privately to the maid-servants that were about her, and said, That this was all the advantage she had of bringing so extraordinary a person as this son into the world; that she should not be able even to bury that son of hers, by whom she expected to have been buried herself. However, this false report did not put his mother to pain, nor afford merriment to the robbers, long; for Josephus soon recovered of his wound, and came out, and cried out aloud, That it would not be long ere they should be punished for this wound they had given him. He also made a fresh exhortation to the people to come out upon the security that would be given them. This sight of Josephus encouraged the people greatly, and brought a great consternation upon the seditious. (Wars, Book 5, Chapter 13, Paragraph 3.)
I think it is clear that the Book of Revelation contains allegory related to the Jewish Revolt and the "beast" with one head mortally wounded represented the Roman army.

I learned that the passages of Josephus that Christians use as 'proof' are forged. I have no doubt of that. I didn't understand a word of Josephus' writing; _Sophisticated language_ is an understatement. The passage where jesus was mentioned as not just being called christ but being christ was obviously written either a couple of centuries later or by someone with a couple thousand functional braincells less than Josephus had.
I also learned that there were several historians who have written awesome stories in great detail about a time I would love to learn a lot more about. All I know is what the movies and the bible tell me and those stories don't fit together. It's a ridiculous mess without any logic or reason and that's just the bible; the movies just pick a short story and copy it.
So I learned just a few little things, but they add a whole new dimension to my view of our past and that makes it a lot. For that I am grateful.

But still, you did make a good point that the text itself doesn't sound authentic.

This video was made almost 50 years too late. I would encourage you to do diligent research before impunity a valid, even valuable, resource such as Josephus. In the 1970's, an unaltered manuscript tradition of Josephus was discovered that contained the original version of the "Jesus passage" in which he does not claim Jesus to be the Messiah. No Scholar of ancient history disputes this as original. Please see Paul Maier's "Josephus, the Essential Works". On two quick side notes; every ancient historian reports events the occurred before his own lifetime and scholars find these reports to be valid provided they were written close enough to those events that either source material or witnesses were still around when it was written (both of which are the case regarding Josephus' account of Jesus Christ), and second, reputable scholars (even ones who are atheist) agree that Mark wrote his account of the Gospel prior to the " prophet" you claimed Mark used as a source. Only eight years before the temple's destruction, anyone who was conscious of then-current events could tell that such an event was on the horizon, and therefore is not grounds to claim that one was a source of the other.

    The year zero?

    • @rustyshield
      @rustyshield 3 года назад

B.C = Before Christ:This is counting down from the time of Adam being created to the birth of Christ(which is arouns 4000 years) when the year count resets to zero. This is why the years go up now. While before the years were counting down to the birth of God the son ~Christ)
A.D=The birth of Christ: The year resets to 0, as soon as Jesus Christ is born counting up to the point of where we are continually counting foward to our present year to the point in time Christ comes back again for those who Believe in His Second coming.
I find it funny or even ironic, how most of the world doesn't believe in God and His plan for our salvation, but yet we still follow the countdown to Christ birth~TheBible (all of earths history, within all those man made history books can be accounted for within those 4000 years, and from His birth to our now present time ~ to His so return(Second Coming of Christ)

I've followed him for over 60 years and he has never failed me yet. I have no need to prove atheists wrong, and marvel that atheists work so hard to disprove what they claim to not believe. If God is nothing, they waste a lot of time on nothing! He who comes to God must believe that He is. He rewards those who seek Him. If you want to know who Jesus Christ is, open your Bible and sincerely ask God to show you the truth. He will.

Strictly speaking, Josephus is a Roman historian. He was only Jewish by ethnicity. Josephus'[ name was Joseph Ben Matityahu. His name became Flavius because he was adopted into the Flavian family of Gen. Titus Flavius who destroyed Jerusalem and later became Emperor. Josephus wrote the official government approved history of those events. He was a Benedict Arnold. We do not rely on his history because it is reliable, or because it is the viewpoint of the Jews, but because it is the only record we have.

No historians are perfect, including Josephus. That being said, he not only mentions Jesus in his works but John the Baptist, James the brother of Jesus, and a host of other characters from the Bible. A lot of these people were contemporaries of his. This makes him a great source of 1st century history, yet because he mentions Jesus, people freak out and say of that was added later. Maybe it wasn’t, in fact the oldest copy of his work from an arabic translation has the mention of Jesus in it.

Regarding 'Josephus', no honest or informed person cites Josephus as 'evidence' for a historical Jesus, because they know it was fraudulently edited by lying Christian scribes who inserted forgeries into the text. Dr.
*FACT* There are no contemporary accounts of a historical Jesus from any source, in or outside the Bible. Period. There are no eyewitness claims...PERIOD. All you have are double-hearsay claims by religious fanatics where your earliest manuscripts date hundreds of years or more after the supposed events, and which are corrupted by forgery and fraud. You don't have a single, historically-credible source for a 'historical Jesus.' PERIOD.
Dr. Paul Hopper, Distinguished Professor at Carnegie Mellon University: "The most likely explanation is that the entire passage is interpolated, presumably by Christians embarrassed at Josephus’s manifest ignorance of the life and death of Jesus." existenciadecristo.files.wordpress.com/2017/04/a-narrative-anomaly-in-josephus.pdf

oh and when does that arabic manuscript date to and what was its source? you say it was from a greek source and dates to the 19th Century? and this and other scholars are suggesting that the clearly disjointed paragaph added in happened in the 4th century by Eusebius (who wrote in Greek)? Wow, how on earth could an Arabic manuscript from a Greek source manuscript contain a passage that had been added to Greek copys of the work for over 600 years ... that is such a mystery and head scratcher that likely can never be untangled. There are countless reasons he may have chose to write briefly as he did about Jesus. One could be out of reverence and respect, whether he were a Christian or not and explaining the origin of Christianity. Or perhaps he didn't want his description of Christianity to overshadow his role as a historian. Christians have never been viewed as respectable in the World and he may have thought it would diminish his work and made it a 'Christian' text, which was never his intention.
Obviously driven by worldview, you have a goal in mind. The forgery angle is total speculation on your part, there is no evidence for it and if you want to badly believe it, it's purely because of the subject matter. Why do you not take issue with any other portions of his work?

What about Jesus in the Talmud? acknowledged by those who hated him most; the Pharisees - if he didn't exist, why would they even bother mentioning him at all? They merely referred to him as a sorcerer who practiced Egyptian magic, a blasphemer who was hung from a tree and is in hell boiling in human excrement. - far from a Christian forgery.
