- From ancient aliens to grand conspiracies, there is a lot of bad history out there. It seems this is becoming more and more prevalent within the circles I'm ostensibly in. So this video will be addressing some of the bad history I've been seeing. Evidently, there are many people who think Jesus was invented at the council of Nicaea or that the council decided on the final state of the biblical canon. Both of these things are false. One would have to pass over a lot of history to make these claims. The first council of Nicaea in 325 was definitely a defining moment in the history of Christianity, but not in the way some people may think. So today, I will be exploring what really happened at the council of Nicaea.

I am a Christian and I found this video to be a great explanation of the Council of Nicaea and many of the early controversies that faced the early church. It disturbs me just how naive Christians are about the formation of the New Testament. I'm going to check out your other videos.
Nicely done. I think the point about Constantine threatening everyone with exile is extremely significant. It forced everyone to pick a side and impose the illusion of consensus. If anything, most attendees didn’t really care about the issue, and they just went with the more popular view to avoid losing their homes.
He threatened many with pain of death actually. Im sure not ALL were threatened with that and many with exile. But its hard to say.

Wow, thanks to this video, I now realize how wrong I was. Used to think the canon was agreed upon at the council of Nicea. And I believe I first got that idea from non other than the freaking history channel.

Arius's opponent before and during the Council of Nicaea was not Alexander of Alexandria but Athanasius of Alexandria. You can confirm this by googling these names.

There were three parties at the council of Nicaea. The smallest was Arius and a handful of bishops that agreed with him; that the Father and Jesus were of different substance or heteroousios. The second, and much larger group, was the Orthodox group led by Hoseas of Cordova, Alexander of Alexandria and a young deacon named Athanasius.

This is basically the same as what I heard had happened. The Christian leadership of the time used philosophical and rhetorical approaches to formulate and present a standard designed to appease different groups in regards to God and his nature.
They didn't seek for inspiration through prayer and study, or by appealing to anyone who had authority from God to interpret these things, such as a prophet. They put it to a vote. To me, it explains why many Christians today have a narrow view when it comes to interpreting what the scriptures are truly saying. These man-made creeds stifle spiritual understanding and make it seem as though a vote by (presumably) well meaning people is (by and large) the end all be all of what is acceptable to believe about the nature of God.

Very well done! I'm a former Christian (Roman Catholic) and have over the course of my life (76 years), looked into, studied, discussed, and rejected about every form of organized religion there is. This video/narrative is well produced and resourced. I am quite familiar with the corrections and arguments that frequently appear in the literature and are dealt with appropriately herein. But the issues of the evil espoused through the control doctrines and dogma that developed from the first and second council gatherings are also well documented and no apology or correction needs to be offered or suggested. The Christian "Church" is a construct of mythology, fairytales, magic, and manipulative control mechanisms, as are all branches - protestant, evangelical, and fundamentalist - that evolved from about 325 a.d. Constantine ruled with a Hitler-like empirical power and one either acquiesced and "believed" or were faced with exile or torture and death. At this point in my life I follow my own path. While I certainly allow that my beliefs are my own, I also accept that others may very well believe otherwise. The entire history of the Christian church is a fascinating study of rule by apocryphal edicts, guilt, condemnation, torture, power struggles, schisms, and Machiavellian scheming launched in 325 a.d. Talk about "...deliver us from evil, amen..."!!!

You either missed or didn't stress one of the most important issues - there were around 2,000 bishops at the time and only about 10% of those attended to vote on the controversy. Also, there is some interesting controversy about there being others who were travelling there and the vote was given before they arrived... I will need to look this up in the literature, but I distinctly remember it.

To answer your question Constantin is not a saint but great megas constantinos in greek means Constantine the great. His mother was a saint. Saint Helen. You can say that Constantine is sort of a saint the fact that he stopped the killings and torture of christians from ruthless emperors Diocletian and Nero.

Thanks. When researching the origins of the Bible I came across a lot of information and I eventually decided I don’t need to believe in any of it. But understanding the council of Nicaea definitely helps.

I have listened to a few studies of the Nicene council. You should research into other things which interest you and God can use those as well.

The phrase 'without him was nothing made that was made ' allows for another to have made all things yes not without the Word.

Constantine saw adopting the church as a way to consolidate power and control. One god, one state, one emperor.

And there are some fake friends that cannot stomach the facts and truth; they gag on it, and vomit it up, and then they become very confused.
The facts and truth can be very confusing to the dishonest and ignorant.
We all should realize, by now, in this day, we have fake Friends as well as fake news.
First for those who are wealthy and in high offices of Government and also corporations; their offices are their license for corruption.
Then; for the licenses for corruption for the poor and middle class that are into Christianity. It is just claiming to believe in a man that they have heard about, that lived in ancient times. They know his name, but they have not even an idea what the man was truly like in real life.
The price for these licensees are cheap, you just claim you believe in this man of ancient times.
Now, for all Christianity, this license for their corruption is valid for a life time; no renewals are required.
It covers all of their corruption; in the past present and future.
However, for those who are very close to their mother, they do need to go and confess their corruption to that little man in the box, in the house that they worship their gods in.
Then, for those protestants that are not so close to their mother, they must go to their house that they worship their gods in; and shout hallelujah and praise to this man that they heard about, that lived in Ancient times that they truly know nothing about, but what they have heard from others.
The strange thing of all of this is that Christianity thinks that they must confess this corruption to their gods rather than to confess their corruption to their own brothers and sister that they did the corruption to.
They did nothing to their gods they did it to their brothers or sisters.
Then, why shouldn’t they make amends by reimbursement to their brothers and sisters.
Perhaps most have done forgiven them, However, that forgiveness is for the peace and comfort of the forgiver. It does nothing for the aggressor, the one that committed the corruption.
Nothing is truly free, someone pays for everything.
It is just the matter of who is doing the paying.
For all of you of Christianity; in all of your understanding do realize that there are many gods and gods are not Father or creators. Gods are just mythical idols of worship.
In the English language, Father, does have the meaning of creator.

No, the only decision was whether or not Jesus and God were made of the same substance or made of a separate substance. There weren't competing views of Christianity despite modern fiction to the contrary. No other aspects of Jesus were in dispute. This video isn't completely factual because it says it took centuries for all to agree, but it was only the Arians who held to a different doctrine. All other churches already agreed. This video then goes on to discuss events well after the council and mixes in disputes and disagreements that took place during the rise of Catholicism.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. Constantine sought control, even in his "blatant power move" threatened exile. The word becoming a flesh is contrary to the scripture in Genesis. In the beginning there was god and with god was the word. The Great Creator is the highest physics of all the universes. It is the physics that the Scientists of today do not understand. It is spirit it is similar to electricity in some ways; it is unseen with the eyes. It saturates and engulfs all existents. Truth is the existence of all that exists.
This highest physics is in control of all other lower physics. This highest physics is very intelligent and more powerful than human comprehension.
Knowledge and understanding is spiritual, it is not created in the brain, and the brain is only capable of receiving it.

Are you a follower of Catholicism, Reuben? Have you studied Romn history and history of the 1st century church? Show me Catholic traditions being followed in the Book of Acts, which defines the 1st century church.
Show me priests offering sacrifices for sin, indulgences remitted for the temporal punishment for sin. Go through Acts and show me miters and scapulars, infallible men, salvation dispensed through the sacramental system, holy water, crucifixes or statues. Show me where the church headquarters was located in Rome.

It can be witnessed in Plato’s defense. And it was even so recent as the Douglas-Lincoln debates, where they would often debate hours on end at fairs with large crowds captivated.

It also served to put the attendees on notice concerning Constantine's views on the important matters to be discussed and voted on. I've heard historians debate on whether Constantine even became a Christian until his deathbed? Note that Arianism was followed throughout the German tribes (Heathens) and outside the reach of the Roman Church and Empire. For example, the Vandals were all Arian Christians and this fact is well documented. The Franks simply converted to Catholicism from Arianism, not from "paganism".

That was a very interesting video about what actuality happened at Nicaea. It does not change the fact that all of the disagreements were a matter of opinion and had nothing to do with reality. The bishops were arguing about non-facts that was based on their egos. If there is a god then it must be neutral energy. To call him the father is stone-age nonsense. Each bishop full of himself that his puny mind can conceive of an ultimate power that created everything and with arragonce so great that these men believe that they can dissect and analyze the ultimate power in creation. What really happened at the council of Nicaea was a political thing. It had nothing to do with religion except that the unification of Christianity created a unified political power for Constantine. Exiling those that would not sign the final statement of the council shows that it was all about consolidation of Constantines power and had nothing to do with arriving at some truth. The "God" they were discussing can be traced to Abraham who brought it with him from Sumaria. This God has a beginning and even in the Bible he has a beginning and I don't mean the creation story, Genesis is the same story in every "holy book" in all religions. Where was this god before Abraham came to Canaan? Where was he before Adam and the garden if you think that is history and not just allegory. What was he doing from the beginning of creation until he created Adam just 6000 years ago? The whole church is a government without a country and is a political control mechanism, just like the religions of the Romans were. The video was great in its reporting of what happened at Nicaea but the content of that council is just nonsense built on assumptions based on nothing.

Partly because none of the authors of the New Testament were eyewitnesses, except for maybe whoever wrote Mark (all the books were your basic hearsay built upon hearsay). Your question is still valid though - why would an omniscient, omnipresent "God" who can easily speak every language choose such a narrow-focused, imperfectly weak way to communicate with mankind? Like why did it take 1500+ years for the Native Americans to hear the gospel? Did "God" not know about the Americas or did he lack the ability to go there to talk to the natives himself? And when they finally got there to spread the gospel, the messengers of the gospels to the natives were people who were working with people who were hellbent on killing off the natives - would you trust the words of people that come to steal your land and kill your people? Why didn't natives get the same message from "God" in their own language as well as everybody else on Earth in their own languages at the same exact time? A hundred years ago, mankind had better means of communication than the all-knowing, all-present, and all-powerful "God".
It should be pretty obvious that the New Testament was a work of men with limited knowledge, not the works of an all-knowing god. Just go look at Jesus' words about botanical knowledge - he clearly didn't know what he was talking about. Look at how limited it was in scope, seemingly written for people 2000 years ago, not for today - I mean, we've outlawed slavery because our morals have evolved, but Jesus told slaves to obey their master, basically endorsing slavery. Hardly seems like a timeless, universal book to me.

Mark wrote about conversations between Jesus and others (like Satan during desert temptation) where no human witness was present. Also, Mark made mistakes as to geography and used some Latin names for places, making many presume that Mark wrote his book from Rome or at least outside the Middle East, in Greek. If he was from the Holy Land, he would not likely make such mistakes.

Greek was the language of the elites in Rome (sort of like how scholars and other elites in the middle ages in Europe spoke Latin). So if all the gospels were written by men of humble origins (like fisherman or common thieves), why would they write them in the language used by the Roman elites? One disciple was a tax collector, so he'd be the most likely to know Greek - but tax collectors weren't really the highly educated Romans.

Because Constantine believed Jesus is the " son of God" the Trinity got cemented and all Christians ended up embracing Jesus as representing God, so God gets bypassed entirely I.e. the middleman gets all the power and glory and praises and not the deity itself (God). However, I'm also an atheist - now - and find the churches, all of them that I know of, teach very little of what Jesus taught. Then, when C B Pershall and I were working in the fields of strawberries, we saw a man climbing over the fence. The man was a Britannica Encyclopedia sales man.
I got a shock of my life when I heard my male parent tell the man that he would buy two sets of Encyclopedias if he could find the information that he wanted.

The man said that it would not be a problem. He said it would be all in the library in Washington D C.

Thank you for this very informative vid. One point of slight disagreement with your conclusion is that you said Nicaea didn't invent Jesus. But inventions don't occur out of thin air, they evolve from previous inventions or ideas, something about standing on the shoulders of giants comes to mind. The discussion at Nicaea was to decide or invent who this Jesus was, god, man adopted by god, part of god but separate, etc. Nicaea did invent the official form that a thing called Jesus should thereafter take. Thus Jesus was invented from the various components of his previous incarnations. A kind of hybrid.
If only more Christians ie evangelicals could comprehend how complex this history is. They can't, and most have no interest (or ability) History is incredibly detailed, and most ppl can only accept simple, easily digested bites. He read all about how that during the time of the Catholic massacring those who would not come under their religion, those who was faithful to Jesus’ teaching went under cover, in secret correspondence. Some moved to new arias. It even named the places they fled to.
C B Pershall did not take the encyclopedia with him as he considered it would be stealing. It was not his and he did not know where to find the owner.
Years later when I was ten to twelve years old C B Pershall began to search for the Encyclopedia. He spent much money in his search.
Then, when C B Pershall and I were working in the fields of strawberries, we saw a man climbing over the fence. The man was a Britannica Encyclopedia sales man.
I got a shock of my life when I heard my male parent tell the man that he would buy two sets of Encyclopedias if he could find the information that he wanted.
My male parent gives the man all the information that he had found in the Encyclopedia years before.
The man said that it would not be a problem. He said it would be all in the library in Washington D C.
A month later the man came back in the evening. He said all the volumes were there except the volume that was needed for the information we wanted.

Closer to truth is hosted by an agnostic. He does an admirable job interviewing a wide range of experts in their particular fields of study. I have enjoyed debating with many agnostics in the past. Some appear quite open minded.
I invite everyone, myself included, to always be open to any idea. While we may not embrace the idea, we can still learn from those who present the ideas.
Key: simply be open minded.
One final point: a good share of research brought me to the philosophical conclusion that there is much 'evidence' to support the idea (yes, even belief) of a Supreme, Divine intelligence and Being.

Thanks for this vid. Interesting. I believe (based on what I think is considerable evidence) that the Gospels are mythical stories. The characters in the myths are largely celestial bodies which have been personified. This seems to be what happens in many old religious myths, many of which are related to the Jesus story. The price for these licensees are cheap, you just claim you believe in this man of ancient times.
Now, for all Christianity, this license for their corruption is valid for a life time; no renewals are required.
It covers all of their corruption; in the past present and future.
However, for those who are very close to their mother, they do need to go and confess their corruption to that little man in the box, in the house that they worship their gods in.
Then, for those protestants that are not so close to their mother, they must go to their house that they worship their gods in; and shout hallelujah and praise to this man that they heard about, that lived in Ancient times that they truly know nothing about, but what they have heard from others.
