That's true. While this type of house and lifestyle might not be to everyone's liking, the architect has really poured a lot of thought and effort into creating this house.

@Fmono • 39 years ago • edited Perhaps TL Rogers was being sarcastic because obviously everything he mentioned has been done countless of times before.
Love the minimalism. It doesn't stay minimal once you put it together, but it looks so clean and inviting. I really enjoy blank spaces, I think it especially helps if you are doing a lot of design work being that you have to keep track of a lot of "moving" parts in your head and construct them through a screen, on paper, or physically. Your mind can start to feel messy if you are also in a messy space, having to sort through visual information that isn't related to your work.
I'm a fabric artist, and this could totally work for me. That right wall could be a felt-board work space. I see a space for my machine, and for my fabric. I'm good to go!
The sheer ingenuity and creative that goes into producing some of these wonderful small spaces is really fascinating. This is one of the most admirable products of the small space design philosophy I have come across. It's a really tiny space but the architect's use of light, volume and what I can only describe as industrial origami has resulted in a beautifully functional and seemingly calming space. Great job.

Keepskatin You have left this same, militant comment on at least one other comment here. You are obviously very angry. Living in the US, I know there's a lot of racist bullshit to go around. That said, a lot of people (including white ones) do like these homes and want to live in them. Most of those people, also understand that that level of minimalism isn't for everybody. Your anger is pointed at the wrong people.
I admire the design aspects and space efficiency but it's like willingly living in a prison cell with inconvenient conveniences. But as long as they are happy, I respect! (and it's quite cool! :D)
I was thinking of it as more of a living puzzle constantly having to move the pieces to create the living space. I guess when I was finished my exercise program would also be complete.
Very compelling! All areas seem usable and well thought, even the small conservatory for the plants! Would be nice to see it during actual use as I can imagine that you would not be opening and closing panels all the time. The bathroom location is good as it can get natural and ventilation. Can see many details that are used in expedition vehicles and motor homes, great application of those concepts. Congratulations.
@Kirsten Dirksen,a good job well done. I hardly heard your voice through the interview. You allowed your muse to be the centre of attention. No distractions. And,Leo did a wonderful job with the home...Spartan! Hope to do something open and mobile like this when Nigeria becomes safer. But, to both parties, thanks for helping me expand my thinking.
Amazing! It is so cool that he collaborated with other people so extensively. A real engineering feat -- even a greenhouse! One caveat -- he didn't make a space for the cat box. aVoid isn't a home without a cat. ;~}
@Black Bamboo I don't think that's what he meant as "impractical". The window wall that's in a city leaves the home owner exposed like living in a glass bubble. They see your whole life. Even the shower door is right at the entrance.
Beautiful design for keeping a neat house! If it were for me, I would change seven things: 1. Stainless steel bathroom instead of wood 2. Different textures on all panels for finding in the dark in case the electricity went out. 3. A different bright colour on each panel instead of grey. 4. A full-size American-style refrigerator. 5. Loft bed instead of low one. 6. Bookshelves covering most of the wall opposite the kitchen side. 7. Windows that can go from clear to opaque by electronic means. (Most of the seven things I mentioned were already mentioned by many nice commenters.)
Actually I think that a higher bed gives more of the creepies than a low be to a full grown ocd person who walks into a room and continues to stare at it... and also the electronic screen would be found unnecessary to quite a lot of people, and as for the fridge, you guessed it, they use less things that need refrigerating, why he said the thing about the market possible that he goes one day in one day out to the market and not every day or once a month as Americans. The grey is that so everything may be equal so no color cringyness... even an OCD person gets annoyed with color patterns.
Probably the best tiny house i have ever seen in my life. Modern yet versatile. Functional yet not overly done. The only thing that i would add is a table that pulls out on the other side of the entrance so when not using the bed can use the table as an office.
I like the well-thought design, the creative thinking process. I think this is not the final product, he will go on designing, maybe changing his point of view when he gets more life-experience ... But I see this is the space he wants to live in now. And he has many smart design tricks that can be used in other tiny houses too.
"...maybe changing his point of view when he gets more life-experience..." Yes, that's an excellent point. I kept thinking how much I would have loved that house 30-40 years ago, but I'm at an age where I don't want to do a lot of lifting, shifting and rearranging wood several times a day! ;-)
I love it. The look is clean and organized. It is wonderful that the space can remain blank which is so important to the inspiration of creativity. Clean space, clean mind. The mental freedom one feels in a blank space after being over-stimulated or saturated by crowded city conditions is refreshing and peaceful. While the space seems so severe, it looks soft and positive. In this space, I would like to see surfaces one could draw on and wipe clean, or magnetic surfaces upon which one could hang artwork. It would be fun to project computer generated designs on the walls. And, a clean space is best to highlight a beautifully made knit blanket or quilt. Less clutter to distract from what one would want to showcase. One day it could be filled with artwork. The next day it could be blank and free again. A full length mirror behind a door would fit in there nicely. Best of all, there is plenty of sunlight. There is room for a small tree in there. Plentiful fresh air. Privacy. No clutter. Safe. What a great space in which to decompress or meditate.
@Caleb Sherman True. It just masks the fact. That never really bothered me, though. It's just units of heat. Any physical residue on the seat, however, NOPE!!! GTFO.
This is very creative beautiful! Not my style though because it gives me anxiety just imagining going inside that empty space... It gives me the idea of being locked in a trailer....😰
This house could just stay on wheels, it's almost like a caravan that way... Thats what I would want, a nice tiny house that can also be easily transported. So you can drive anywhere you'd like
Excellent, important lessons on Living Small, as less in more, especially when cleverly, creatively packaged. The is the future of housing which is here, right now, not a fantasy.
I still wish that they would apply these ideas in modern homes with solar and greywater. Then the next step would be Mico living for Colleges dorms to bring on the sense responsibility & make them the leaders of conservation
Agreed. I've made moving designs like this. If I had this the bed would almost always be down and the kitchen open. The rest only time would tell how I'd keep it.
Agree. It looks awesome and the ingenuity and craftmanship is impressive, but to me the 7 changes a day would be a hassle, and mostly done just for the cool empty look in between…..more of an art project than practical housing.
I think it would be a lot more work to live there than I have energy or patience for. Too much set up and take down and monotone gray. Nevertheless, his tiny house works for him, it is for his personality and taste not mine, and is still an awesome accomplishment which he has every right to be proud of. Think of the courage this man has to undertake building the aVOID mobile tiny house and traveling to Tiny House Villages in other cities and countries and arranging and coordinating with this RUclips Channel to be video taped while showing off his accomplishment. That took not only skillful architecture but a whole lot of courage.
keep in mind this is his interpretation on his tiny house. you could buy/build a completed version of the same model house but with a completed solar panel on the top. would pretty much have everything a normal house has except a washer and dryer which a lot of people who have actual apartments dont even have. you could simply paint the walls and put up posters if you want add your own personality. Its his personal decision to keep everything closed so if you really want you can leave the bed and kitchen out and it would prob feel pretty homie. Not gonna lie i wouldnt mind living in this finished product. minimal bills except for maybe internet, insurance, and occasional water filtration maintenance. And i would definitely throw a TV in that bitch.
I would travel all the world with this. Its design is perfect for me, in view of travelling !!! But if I should stay longer in there, I'd need a laundry washing machine, some solar panels, (No TV! Nowadays there's sufficient the internet!), and a more serious bathroom system, I guess! Keep it up, Sir, and you'll have a huge no. of contracts with large building companies, for your Project! Continue to work hard on details for the issues I mentioned. You made a wonderful job till now !!! Congratulations !!! And thank you for your masterpiece! 👍
I am tending OCD and find this design very appealing. I think there's alot to be said for minimalistic living where one leaves a very small footprint. I also like how he placed the bed on the lower level and not in a lofted space. Its important I feel to be able to access your bed without too much difficulty in cases of injury and/or emergencies. Great design!
As much as I want to say a big “Heck no, I couldn’t do this!”, I become more amazed by his way of thinking. I’d love to see some of his architecture.

Sometimes people are just weird, and I'm okay with that as long as it doesn't affect me or other non-interested individuals (including animals).
This guy has a beautiful spirit. His ingenious home reflects that. A true Gesamtkunstwerk..
I Absolutely LOVED this place!!! It has been my FAVORITE By Far, Out Of All the Tiny Places I have seen!
Every Hideaway that he revealed was like Christmas, opening up a gift on each one.
He Doesn't live Cramped, bumping into things or messy and cluttered, just simply having Structured his Tiny House THIS WAY Is BRILLIANT and AMAZING!!!
OMG!!! This guy is a genius!! I love this house. So very me. No clutter. Empty space you can change when you want to. Perfect for claustrophobic people who'd want to clear space in a minute
This is the most creative tiny house design I have seen. Bravo to the architect!
I love your videos, great job. We just received approval for one of the first tiny house communities on foundations in Sedona Arizona as a model for permanent sustainable living, installation will be in January 2018, units are built by students and featured in minutes 10-20 of the video living tiny legally part 2. It might make for a good story... getting into site planning, and design of permanent tiny home communities.
Darin Dinsmore, what wonderful news that there will be a Tiny House Village in Sedona, AZ! Please provide a link, and updates, as they become available! 💛
Fascinating tour of this ingenious tiny home. Not to everyone's liking but for those who like spare minimalism it's intriguing and thought provoking.
What does skin colour have to do with the size of someone's house?
Keepskatin You have left this same, militant comment on at least one other comment here. You are obviously very angry. Living in the US, I know there's a lot of racist bullshit to go around. That said, a lot of people (including white ones) do like these homes and want to live in them. Most of those people, also understand that that level of minimalism isn't for everybody. Your anger is pointed at the wrong people.

That's the modern office. Never a need for paper anymore.

I appreciate this so much! Especially with my allergies and delight in laying out under the open sky. Beautiful.
reminds me of the apartment in the movie " The 5th Element"
That's the first thing I thought
yeah!
Congratulations on an excellent design, I could live in the Void, with ease. Keep up the good work, love the creativity.
I admire the design aspects and space efficiency but it's like willingly living in a prison cell with inconvenient conveniences. But as long as they are happy, I respect! (and it's quite cool! :D)
I love how easy it is to clean!
Hahahahahah! "Inconvenient conveniences"! That's a good one!
Love the efficiency of this place. Great for a single person but just does not have the warm feel of other tiny houses.
Stunning. Ingenious. A complete masterpiece of engineering and concept execution. Bravo.
Imagine dealing with all of this when having a bad day
FavJam 🤣
Smashy Smashy fuck this thing etc
FavJam : 😂😂😂 exactly.
I would break so much stuff omg
Lots of doors and drawers to slam...
Those chairs, amazing. So is the rest of the house.
Edward Howden I had folders like that back in the day. Uncomfortable.
Yeah, the chairs impressed me.
One of the coolest tiny houses I've seen (if not the coolest one). And it has plants 🥰 (the best ones btw)
Why do portable homes interest me so much?
Freedom, flexibility, adventure, no hassle, clear mind...? :)
@@bt7846 : instinct
@@tomsenft7434 yep
Cause we need to run away from lunatics and government lmfao.
Because we should _ALL_ have portable homes and live wherever we want and roam free...just like animals in nature.
I am addicted to watching your videos Kirsten
Amazing! It is so cool that he collaborated with other people so extensively. A real engineering feat -- even a greenhouse! One caveat -- he didn't make a space for the cat box. aVoid isn't a home without a cat. ;~}
Clever, well designed and also completely impractical for 90% of the population
You are not right!
It's practical and perfect for travelling!
Ah, but that's not the point, is it?
The other 10% need housing, too, y'know?
Perfect for me too
@Black Bamboo I don't think that's what he meant as "impractical". The window wall that's in a city leaves the home owner exposed like living in a glass bubble. They see your whole life. Even the shower door is right at the entrance.
"U ask if im exhibitionist?" 😂😂 I was actually silently thinking that. Sorry
Edz A In Germany nudity is not a big deal
lol
Getting naked in public is a Berlin pastime. Don’t go in the Tiergarten in summer unless you’re prepared for nakedness.
"...why not take a shower in front of the nature." I thought he wanted to live in the city. There would be a busy sidewalk out front, then.
Absolutely genius. I've fallen in love with this house! Wonderful work.
Beautiful design for keeping a neat house! If it were for me, I would change seven things:
1. Stainless steel bathroom instead of wood
Yeah, you could create your own!! lol
Well, the great thing about tiny homes is you can make your own!!
The grey is that so everything may be equal so no color cringyness... even an OCD person gets annoyed with color patterns.
its more like an art. A very, beautiful, livable art.
The bathroom's not for me though
Susu Kuda Liar especially being seen naked with the open glass door.
Nothing there is enough for me. It is fascinating though.

Great! Consequent, consistent, elegant.
I'm also amazed this whole thing actually survives moving. I'd expect half of the stuff to just fall apart, twist, crack or jam up.
Probably the best tiny house i have ever seen in my life. Modern yet versatile. Functional yet not overly done. The only thing that i would add is a table that pulls out on the other side of the entrance so when not using the bed can use the table as an office.
I really like the chairs. All else isn’t necessarily my style, but none the less, very brilliant.
I kept thinking how much I would have loved that house 30-40 years ago, but I'm at an age where I don't want to do a lot of lifting, shifting and rearranging wood several times a day! ;-)
Agreed. I wonder how he will come with a family or a partner ?
Well done Leonardo! The design very well thought of and executed perfectly. Greetings and high respect from Indonesia
Brilliant, he should win every single architecture award
OMG! OMG! He has me SOLD after seeing those plants! I haven't seen ANY of the tiny houses that tend to my creative plant needs! LOVE that!
So creative and ingenious. I'm sure it was hard work planning every last detail that seems to work so well together.
Wow a really cool idea and design. It's very interesting because it's probably a design that won't work for most people, but is awesome for some.
Brilliant! I love no side windows so they can be parked side by side without staring in your neighbors window.
...in your neighbor's ass.
You could draw on the walls with whiteboard markers, but you'd have to walk sideways or do a lot of laundry. Maybe a pull-down screen.
It is like a gift box! I am more and more surprised everytime he opens something new...
Amazing design
The design will fit an RV housecar
"Everyone wants to have a warm bathroom."
TRUTH!
Sam Struyven and comfortable
I live in Japan where the toilet seats are warm.
IT'S GLORIOUS!!!
ItchyKneeSon I'm sure it's nice knowing that they're not warm because of another person sitting recently. *shivers*
@Caleb Sherman True. It just masks the fact. That never really bothered me, though. It's just units of heat.
Any physical residue on the seat, however, NOPE!!! GTFO.
Sam Struyven fuck that. Not everyone.
This is very creative beautiful! Not my style though because it gives me anxiety just imagining going inside that empty space... It gives me the idea of being locked in a trailer....😰
That's what I thought like why does he bother moving the bed
Maybe as a weekend home or a vacation home. No art on the wall would bother me.
@@coraalicecrowley8171 The whole point is that by putting away the bed he can declutter the room and transform it as well atthe same time.
Yeah, but if you are living with nature, you won't be home too much, you are outside doing things, :>)
Me too this gives me an anxiety attack
The coffee machine.. very important for the Italians :)))) lololol ... true!!!!
Those chairs look so comfortable! Imaging plopping down on one of those after a hard day at work. Sooo relaxing! Now that's what I call a comfy home!
This is pure minimalism.
Imagine you're laying in the bad and you hear strange noises in the kitchen.

Then you look left and the mystery is solved. The kitchen is 1 metre away.

Clever young man! I hope you will produce some other video's from this event of the other examples surrounding his!
"Hiding" seems to be higher on his list then "Multifunctional space usage". Evenso some clever ideas.
He could use a safety rail on the roof, especially for any guests who have enjoyed too many glasses of vino.
I thought the exact same thing!
Your home is like a hug. I could be happy in that space. Excellent job!
This house could just stay on wheels, it's almost like a caravan that way... Thats what I would want, a nice tiny house that can also be easily transported. So you can drive anywhere you'd like
Connor Kruithof Then buy a camper or an RV.
nbkcq28 read my comment again? 'It is almost like a caravan that way' The fact that you can attach it to your car and take it with you aka caravan
Dufffaaa93 thanks Sherlock :)
nbkcq28 oh crap hahahah, sorry!!
If they put this into production with an optional trailer, I'd just bolt it to the trailer and keep it that way.
Excellent, important lessons on Living Small, as less in more, especially when cleverly, creatively packaged. The is the future of housing which is here, right now, not a fantasy.
I want the sleeping bag 😍 this whole little house is so wonderfuly creative!❤
One or two night's in year. No more.
I assume it's tencel. A fabric made from wood fibre much like what is done with bamboo.
I think I haven't seen such a good design in my lifetime.....It's really a inspiration for upcoming architects....
I still wish that they would apply these ideas in modern homes with solar and greywater. Then the next step would be Mico living for Colleges dorms to bring on the sense responsibility & make them the leaders of conservation
There is so much available, still people go with the traditional building, too expensive perhaps~:>(
@Black Bamboo That's great until you find out your neighbors are racist sacks of shit... I wouldn't mind some wheels on my house.
The novelty of having to constantly "morph" your living space would wear off very fast.
Agreed. I've made moving designs like this. If I had this the bed would almost always be down and the kitchen open. The rest only time would tell how I'd keep it.
Looks like irl he already only uses the bed to sit at unless he has guests.
Agree. It looks awesome and the ingenuity and craftmanship is impressive, but to me the 7 changes a day would be a hassle, and mostly done just for the cool empty look in between…..more of an art project than practical housing.
The design is well thought out. The functionality of the compartments and furniture is very stylish. I would love to live in this tiny house.
And i would definitely throw a TV in that bitch.
why would u like to live in a sardine can ?
The problem is that if you accidentally broke some of your custom furniture, it would be a lot of pain to get another one
I would travel all the world with this. Its design is perfect for me, in view of travelling !!!
But if I should stay longer in there, I'd need a laundry washing machine, some solar panels,
(No TV!
It's almost a perfect tiny house. Craftsmanship is just incredible.
been there last year, and saw these small houses too but i didnt thought it has so many cool features inside of it, now i regret not to go inside. lol
perfect home for ocd persons.
I believe he is OCD, gay and a genius. It's just how God makes special people sometimes. 🎭
