You don't even need to roll; just tap the dodge button once. If you do this before he gets winded, and you've kept the sprint button held down, he will continue sprinting.

NPCs even tell us certain birds lead us to points of interest such as Haiku points, hot springs, and pillars where other samurai have fallen.

13th tip: you can change the weather by playing the flute, different weather effects depends on what song you have equipped! 🎼🎶
My favorite thing is to make it foggy, it's great for stealth.

I play that flute all the time and don't see a weather change. Heard you could do this but maybe I'm just doing it wrong...

You can change the weather manually in the options also
This is probably the only game I’ve ever played where I actually use ALL of the items during combat. They’re all extremely useful, and most importantly fun as hell to use!!
Selecting them will kill you somtimes.

No I only use the katana and only fight people face to face because of my honor code
The game does tell you about the birds, an NPC will mention them, and also Jin will suggest following them sometimes on approach.
Also, if the bird doesn’t seem to be doing anything, you’re not following the proper path. Had one fly down around a waterfall, but it every time I climbed down I lost it; turned out I was supposed to follow around the waterfall at the top, and it continued on its way. It’ll only proceed if you’re following the intended path.
He says in the video that the game tells you about them if you're following the main story
Also, the game tells you about the birds a 3rd time albeit cryptically. When your in the flashback at your father's funeral the lady you follow talks about how the birds are your mom and the wind your dad or something like that.

@@Handsome_Black The game tells you about it regardless. You encounter NPCs with speech bubble icons and they give you a lot of gameplay tips.
my tips for the player is to do Ishikawa quest first before exploring to unlock short bow, make your life so much easier.
And the longbow quest too lol

I was actually wondering if you can even use a bow in the game since it took me a while to do Sensei Ishikawa's missions.
The game plays like a really good full body massage. Its beautiful, vibrant colors, calming music, fluid exploration... just a really good game.

If you cant tell well the archers are, you probably have your sound options set up wrong. The game has AMAZING audio and I am able to dodge incoming arrows from off screen, not because I'm a badass or anything, but because the sound is done amazingly, and I can always hear where the archers are and when they are firing.
i got the travelers attire from the first like hot spring area and i got it as a gift from a merchant

Tsushima actually does tell you the first time you actually meet a camp leader, by observing him you receive an extra stance point.
And infact it even happens sooner (if you are lucky) the loading screen tips tells you this aswell
the golden bird in the golden temple that seems to fly around aimlessly is telling you there's something on the very top of the tower, didn't even realize you could climb it but just realized that not too long ago xD

Archers give a pretty clear audio cue when they're about to fire that gives you a chance to block it or roll out of the way.
Get the deflect arrow skill early. It’s so convenient, especially when you don’t have a lot of resolve to constantly heal or a lot of health in general
Eh, it's a skippable skill because of how easy the archers are to hear and dodge.
I got the traveler's attire early from a survivor camp as well
Yeah honestly I thought it was part of the main story but maybe it wasn't?
You only have to interact with literally ANY merchant and it unlocks. That should be the first priority for anyone.
I got it from the survivor camp right before meeting Yuna for the first mission. Not very helpful because artifacts are just collectibles and is important if you want to collect all the collectibles after you finish the main story
Bought the game 2 days ago - best R1000 I ever spent. I don't usually buy games at release and usually wait for the price to drop but this was an exception. Still super early into the game. This is gonna be helpful.

Hot tip: you can use photomode to check the time of day, zoom in on camps from afar and pause time to plan your attack
Back away slowly and keep your eyes on the bears and they will loose interest in you unless you have attacked them or they are running at you. Gotta love the detail.
I just came to say that I love this game and it is blowing apart my expectations (which were already really high)
Literally paused the video to Google and find the shrine that gives you the charm that makes getting a perfect parry easier. Glad I didn't get to far in the game before I got this.
The special bow animations you mentioned happen when you bow to something that has a sign next to it with a picture of a bowing samurai
Also alternatively for parries, I have found that holding R2 to change stance works well for timing parries. Plus by doing it this way, you won't waste your concentration.
I haven't found it works too well for perfect dodges though
The only issue I have with the game as I'm playing it completely Samurai style unless the missions explicitly State I need to be silent and yet everyone seems to act like I've completely changed
Just to add on to The Travelers attire try to level it up as quickly as possible so when you take over enemy encampments it unlocks a huge portion of the map super fast so you don't have to be going around on your horse in multiple directions

Little off-topic, but I love the hand movements. They really help with the flow of the already very fluent explanations.
Before playing Ghost of Tsushima, I was playing a lot on the switch, and so my controls, x/y a/b triangle/circle/square etc are all confused. This is the first video I've found that tells how to sheath your katana, so thank you! I end up attacking the air all the time, then I just run around with a katana out until he eventually puts it back himself.
Holy molasses thank you for bringing up that you can make the bamboo stands easier! I didn't know that and they have been frustrating the hell out of me!
I tend to do Side missions, collect the Sword kits, & explore. I have 4/5ths of the explorer perks. 🐺
My parry skills from Sekiro definitely transferred to this game
I loved the Way of the Samurai franchise I wish they’d bring it back. Parts of GoT remind me of the game.
The Traveler's Attire is acquired from the first basic cosmetic merchant you speak to, regardless of area. The golden bird at the golden temple (among other places) wants you to get to the top of the temple. Progress through the story to aquire the grappling hook and look for the white and red cloth tied to certain corners. If bird circles, go up.
Following the wind and the birds is one of the most calming things for doing missions and side activities.
I like using the smoke bombs when enemies come in close triggers the assassination animation and surrounding enemies get terrified allows for easy pickings.
The minimalism of all the open world elements is what really sold it for me. I'm so exhausted with open world sandbox games, but I can't get enough of this one.
This game is awesome. Everyone talks about visuals and gameplay- which are solid, though the UI, menus, load times are all some of the best in any game I’ve played. Sucker Punch really have elevated themselves with this, hopefully we’ll be getting more on PS5

When it told me about observing leaders, I wondered if there was a big advantage to doing that rather than just killing them. Thank you for that.
And play the flute to change the weather. You can change its tune to bring on Night, Day, Storms or sunny days. I absolutely love this game!
I have been doing the jump kick accidentally, but repeatedly, because I am so used to x being run. It does work well even though it's by accident. 😁 I also selected easy mode because I still feel like a noob, but it's way too easy. I would say even beginners should go with medium. I hate that there's not a mini map I can choose to turn on. I know some folks love there's not a map, but we should have the option. This island has so many hills, rocks, mountains, coastline, etc., that, while it's beautiful, it all starts to look similar and it's difficult to navigate.

Birds also show you cosmetic pieces. The bird at the temple was telling you to use the grapple hook to climb to the top to collect a head band. almost each temple has a head band up top

I have been playing since release and completely had idea about that snap kick. I been using the Charge kick in Anti-Spear Stance!

that golden bird was pointing you towards the roof of that pagoda from a grapple point. I also explored much more at first and came across a few spots/situations where I wasn't sure what to do but just go back once you get grapple
As usual with these videos, the game actually does tell you most of these. Do some people refuse to read or something?
I see a lot of people skip straight through the cut scenes or dialogue. Don't even bother to read some of the collections they gather (all though they have just some side information or history most of the time). It's all for the direct gameplay so yes.
@@johnniewaiker6203 You can't even skip the cutscenes in this game. Or any other conversation for that matter. Between the options, the tips on the loading screens, and the in game dialogue, everything is spelled out clearly 😁
Idk why but I always tend to stop paying attention if a cutscene is too long.

I've seen a video once where a guy couldn't figure out what to do in a game for almost an hour with the objective literally on the screen the whole time. So yes. People refuse to read.

Thanks Scott I'm not that far into the story as I get sidetracked easily following the birds and foxes stumbling on side missions etc but there's a few tips I've picked up from this video 😎.
The sequel is going to be a red dead rival.
Hell, it already is. I havent had this much fun riding around aimlessly on horseback since RDR.

Idk if anyone else found this yet but if you're out of concentration you can hold the button to switch stances to slow down time and see the attacks coming in and deal with them the proper way, weather to parry, to dodge or to strike, really helped me out in duels

I'm about a year late, but just started playing it and it's the most beautiful game I've ever played.
I only just recently started playing this game yesterday and I could tell the Golden bird was important because it was revealed in a flashback to Jin's uncle during Jin's training that the wind guidance was his father's spirit and the birds was his mother's spirit and the fox was lager revealed as a sign his mother took in relation to Jin's birth. It pays to listen and pay attention to cutscenes and conversations rather than being told what to do.

They do actually explain that you can observe leaders for more points to unlock stances but its only listed as a bonus while liberating locations (which you should focus on because it clears all the fog on a map showing you everything you can do in that area) and when you kill a leader it says “kill or observe more leaders to unlock”
The travelers clothing can be found near the mission that rewards assassination. There's a few question marks between that mission and the half bow mission. One of these is a little rest area with a merchant and trapper. Talk to them and one will give you the travelers outfit.
Thers a better way to spot archers: theres an option to toggle an archer symbol over their heads when they are preparing an attack (aka shouting at you). I think its in accessibility sub-menu. Also theres a "loading screen" tip that tells you that jumping is an effective way to dodge spear attacks.
Thank goodness i always look at the settings of a game everytime i first play it.
When you wear the traveler's armor lil fireflies glow to your controller vibrating leading you also to important ppl usually places you need to go to upgrade equipment
I also fell in love with the balance of this game .. I a sucker for open world games & this jad great visuals, combat, upgrade system., weapon abilities. EVERYTHING!!

I've had that same thing happen. I thought grapple hook but couldn't find a place to hook to the building. So how do I get up there?

J Powell yes at golden temple. Took me awhile to find the spot to hook as well. If your facing the armor lady, go to the back left and there’s a box or crate you can jump from and hit R2. The headband is lame but still cool to find. There’s also something else up there, let me know if you find it ✌️
You can also slow down time in combat by pressing R2. But you need at least 2 stances unlocked for it to work. Salute.
The observing part can be READ after taking down your first leader BUT it is not said how and under what circumstances you can observe them so it's a hey you can do that but we don't tell you how
Also in Hiyoshi is a tutorial to the bamboo strike
Also when you found every single thing in the game (I mean what birds show you) and when encountering a bird it will follow you if you walk slow enough same with a Fox it's a nice detail I found after 100% the game
YOU CAN SWITCH ARMOR DURING CUT SCENES. I got into a duel wearing travels gear then paused switched to #&$^@* armor which gives you more health and it updated all my visual changes and stats in the cut scene immediately
Yea, that's a big one. Traveler was the "armor" I wore the most, but being able to equip a different armor at almost any time (aside from some pre-rendered cutscenes) was helpful.
@@micah4029 yeah it was amazing and I feel like devs that say they can't do it or it would take you out of them moment have been proved wrong.
I would add to this list is to stick to main story missions at first, you unlock a lot of gear like the grappling hook. Hut also don't ignore the tales of tsushima missions. Also you forgot to mention the foxes that lead to the Inari shrines which unlock more charm slots and increase charm power, and always swap out charms to best suit your situation.
Idk if anyone mentioned but travelers attire let's you track undiscovered collectibles on the map as well
It doesn't directly say it but it shows when using the map I found that out 40h into the game xX
Another small tip. If you liberate towns, villages, and such. When you go back to look at your map. That town you just liberated will have its icon burst with a bunch of the fog that surrounded it gone.
Which will uncover new points of intrest.
Have been playing Ghost of Tsushima for 2 weeks now, and I must say: are the parries rewarding. Especially in a duel. You can have 1 resolvs left, but when you parry perfectly it opens up so much potential for strekking down your opponent :) .
You don’t need photo mode to locate archers, they have a feature in the settings that shows an small icon over an archers head when they’re about to shoot

I've also noticed the Green Firefly will guide you to items. The thoracic will blink faster the closer you get. Disclaimer I have the Travelers attire fully upgraded. not sure if that has any barring. thought i'd mention it.
Anyone else play 100% samurai? No assassinations, no ghost tactics, etc. Strictly stand offs only. I love that you have the choice to play like that

Don't like your current weather? Just play your flute. Depending on the equipped song you can change the current weather to sunny, stormy, rainy and even thunderstorms. This helped me so much in dark woodlands when the clear sky brings out precious moonlight into the scenery.
Also for gamers new to the game, if you follow the golden bird to an area and it seems there's nothing to collect, chances are there is a headband or hat located above you. You might need to climb to the top of the building to find what the bird was directing you to. Some areas you will need the grappling hook to reach. Look around the building and find white strips of cloth. You can usually grapple to these spots.

And then I explored haha, last night I finally went to go for the short bow and then explored more and got the longbow and now I am so mad that I missed the frog statues!
How do you bow exactly? Is it context sensitive like the R2 button shows up when you're in front of something that you can bow in front of?
And how do you pet your horse? I’m starting to think that things like bowing and petting your horse must be unlocked.... for example, when I first got off my horse during the intro, I tried every button to try and pet him

Not by purpose really, but because I loved exploring and doing the side-missions
...you know you can turn on indicators for when Archers are about to shoot at you, right? It's in the accessibility options.
I would rather this option over using photo mode - especially since it gives that in-game indicator (keeping you in the action and making it easier to know when you need to block).

archers are easy with arrow block and im good at tracking them in ghost of tsushima

Leaders can only be observed if it’s part of the locations objective which appears in the upper left corner.

I really like the video, because it mostly gives tips on how to use the mechanics correctly. This is exactly what I want from a tips video. However, I would like it even better, if you would not tell exactly where to find stuff (in this case the travelers attire). I want to find out myself and if I cant find it, then I could simply google it. Just telling it in the video is not a "tip" but a "solution" to me. However, I could easily skip it in this video, since you announced it for the travelers attire :)
I don't have any problems with the parrying. I mean I do fail every so often but that's mostly during larger battles in drawn into.
I have nearly 40 hours into it and I think I am about a third of the way through. I am going for Platinum so I am doing everything. Also I walk everywhere most of the time. Check the map every once in a while and see if any of the ?'s show up, I do all of those anytime they come up, they are a great help. Enemies will get tougher as you progress so be prepared.
I also did this but found I was a bit over powered by the end making most fights a breeze.
