  • FISA Reauthorization Provision Wanting Businesses, Even Individuals To Possibly Be Forced To Act As Surrogate Spies (according to reports - details within) - WATCH / SHARE TO SAVE OUR RIGHTS; Anyone Providing ANY Kind Of Service (Websites Host, etc) Could Become Victim On This - CALL SENATORS NOW: 202-899-8938 - TAKE ACTION - Tell Your Senator NOT To Pass The Stasi "Everyone Becomes A Spy" Provision
It's Very Concerning. One thing about trust is, it doesn't mix too well with secrecy. And we are seeing historical levels of confusion, and many have lost trust in institutions.
I do these videos as a way to try to contribute positive dialogue. If no one talks about potential dangers, who checks this type of thing?
This provision is the kind that could easily have been prepared by competitors / enemies of the US. To kill any remaining trust in the USA tech industry.

Privacy-eroding laws pose a significant problem, particularly due to forced surveillance and data collection practices. Many companies also engage in these activities to either sell the data or use it for marketing purposes.
A notable concern is the way local internet service providers (ISPs) store users' browsing histories. Instead of obtaining a warrant, the government may simply purchase this data from ISPs.
Using privacy-focused technologies like Tor and I2P is highly advisable to safeguard personal privacy. However, I2P is often preferred; there are concerns about the funding sources of the Tor network, which may pose long-term risks.

Comments going *poof* on my screen, then reappear / disappear on this one. 😋 Funny!
I do see the positive side as promoting new standards to protect users from abuse - within an ethical / legal framework.

That's the best thing we can all do if able! I called yesterday and the number is really convenient for anyone reading - it just calls the 1st rep, then immediately directs you to the next the moment you say bye etc.
Thanks for going the extra mile! 🙌

All I can say there is open source e2ee is always the best option / ideal for the safest option for journalists, activists. When things are open source, at least you can inspect the code if you want to.
The concern is the future possibilities if / when a future hypothetical corruption may (or may not) assume power.

That's one way to look at things.
Risk of being killed in a terrorist attack is lower than dying from falling furniture. And I have yet to fear moving furniture.
I'm not too concerned about "not increasing mass surv to include forcing individuals to spy, where there has previously been abuse of data access reported.
Much much greater risk in the long-term. I am thinking long-term, not short-term.
Atrocity propaganda promoted for passing laws like this certainly works on most.
Just opinions / concerns about potential for abuse, mostly.
      That's all.

Sure, plenty to critique there. Competition sometimes makes us our own worst enemy.
