Another great video! Very fun to see the chocolate bar get tested! Made me laugh to see. Also for future videos please reduce the glare on the metal testing machine's display for the metal reading. I would have loved to see the numbers move around until it settled on the metal make up. Please make more. Thanks!
For non rare fake but made of real gold is mostly "jewelers copies". A common practice in the middle east and many there don't care about - they care about the gold content or the jewelry if used in such (selling them as is is very common). Most of them give themselves away because of the quality of it.
@@BackyardBullion I did not enjoy it. It scared me. Are you saying that reputable sellers could be selling us fake coins because the end buyer does not have a fancy equipment? I can only do ping test, magnet test, weight test and dimensions measurements. Are they going to pass those?
My lcs used to sell these type of "fakes" to me for melt. Got a few "fake" 22kt sovs, then took them to a jeweler, got a 22kt chain made from the melt.
That's understandable. Always best to do your research before buying, whether its gold, silver, stocks etc. It seems to be easier and easier these days to get sucked in to the hype,, only to lose out!
Would you know if coin dealers buy fake-but-with-real-gold-content sovereign? I mean just for melt value I guess? If a customer walks up and offers a gold but fake sovereign?
Hi jason. Great question. We will make an offer for these types of sovereigns but it will be below intrinsic. We may even keep it just for educational purposes. 👍
I was guessing all of them were fake or at least not the material claimed on them. I've seen a silver coin that was pure silver when it should have been 90% silver. A strange mistake. I finally got a sigma metalytics pro mini. Well worth the cost. Hard to come by because of chip manufacturers nowadays.
That's like this $2.50 gold coin replica, imported in the 50s, is 90% gold, is 16mm wide instead of 18mm wide, weighs 4.19g instead of 4.18g; why make fakes with genuine gold content? Numismatic pricing, that's why. Fortunately my LCS sold it to me at bullion prices, did the math, i paid a $2 premium for it! $218 worth of gold, taken home for $220. Deal&a half!
I don't keep many accessible valuables laying around our home and the home itself is a vault but when I go overseas, I always leave some fakes near the entryway.
Gold, NO WAY. Playing around with gold is Just not a doable th9ng for me. It is shaky at best. Silver though is a doable commodity. It is affordable and it has many tests that we as collectors can do to check it. Specific gravity, The CSS slide or the Sigma.(for the high rollers)., The simple weight and size of course. Without a LCS within 10+ hours from here gold is just not an option living where I do. Great post old fri4nd. See you soon and take care eh.
Depending on when/where/what you buy, silver can be a great investment, especially with its many industrial uses. Unfortunately Value Added Tax on NEW silver means additional costs to consider. Secondary market silver can be cheaper but is harder to come buy.

I lost 3 gold coins to them been fake. Thankfully they were left to me by my dad so no money out of pocket but still was a blow.
Ouch, that's a shame.

I would have thought that magnetic fake silver coin would cost a fair bit to make
So these so called official gold coins and bars could be fake. I better magnetic test the bars I got online from a bullion dealer
Good Video. I like Lawrence.
That Is one of the reasons why i do not like to buy gold... There Is more fakes than in silver And when you Will do a mistake it Is more expensive.
Yep, this is very true!

Would've been $300+- if it was legitimate
Fakes are great for dummy safes 😉

I know right!

Thanks!
I hate this. But good fakes nonetheless.
THIS IS WHY I BUY ONLY GRADED GOLD COINS. BEING 90% BLIND MY EYES DO NOT HELP ME ANY MORE
Indeed, graded are a good way to avoid fakes.
there are lots of fake graded coins around, don't let a fancy coin package lull you into a false sense of security
