    Hello, when I bought this device, it had exactly the same problem. After watching your training clip, I first replaced the belt and the 1000 microfarad 35V capacitor. The problem was solved by about 95%, and it only gave errors sometimes, but after replacing the 6800 microfarad capacitor, I replaced it, the device no longer works and only gives error messages, what is the reason?

    Screwdriver head is called Torx :) and my CD160/CD371/CD480 will read cdr which has the same CDM2/CDM4 mechanism.
    Great video...you made me laugh, you made me cry..in the end it reads cdr....great job!

    Ok done, changed the belt, only the belt, had a spare pulley but did not touch it. Order to do it: I suppose Drawer Schnappi could have been left in place: ah no, otherwise front plate can't betaken off. So try to pull out the drawer completely, as you need to free 2mm to place the new belt. you do not touch the motor. Otherwise screw off the 1 screw in the bottom (long screw for this small plastic part), the 2 screws back of transport, 1 screw in front of the transport. I had problems to reattach the spring from the laser cover. Take a photo before manipulation.

    Hi Weakbit. I love your video and your cheerful style, thank you!
    I have just stripped this down, re-soldered the power lead socket and rebuilt it quite successfully. All back together, but and seems to work fine except the flex-PCB has slipped out of the white plastic retainer on the motherboard. Please can I ask how on earth you fitted it back successfully???? As you say it's only about 5cm long and there's no room for your hands!!!
    Many thanks,
    Dominic

      Hello Dominic - I remember I do that with my left hand and with my 2 fingers but it can also be that I use a Pinzette too. I remember this on the left/front side this little plastic connector and it still stand straight vertical - but you must open it to move a Pinzette the white around frame and lift it to the top so the connector is open if you don't do that you can't insert the flex-PCB into the connector back. Belts and defective motors are common. I also find defective laser pickups but often they aren't available or the cost is too high.

    • @weakbit633
      @weakbit633  2 года назад

      I see that also so defect belts are the main in my eyes. Motors are also and Caps often too. And dirt behind the lens that is also very difficulty to clean in case of dis-assembly the laser lens and assembly it again.

    Hi weakbit. Thank you for making and posting this video. Kindly, in your estimation, then, if I understood you correctly, the main issue were the weak/cut belt, and ¿the 'adjustment of the monitor of the laser diode/sensor up closer to the media/CD'? Thank you for making & posting this video. Thank you again.

    • @weakbit633

    Hello! I have a Toshiba xr-z70 cd player. I have a question, if you don't mind. My CD player opens the drawer when starting from the power button. What would be the problem? Any advice is welcome. I understood that this is the common problem with these models. Thank you very much. A good day.

      normal it should be closed after power up. There is a end switch and if this is not in position - the µController dedect it as not close it could be that it open the tray after power up. I think is this end switch. This end switch could also positioned under the drive on a gear or wheel! this is much complicate to repair but I do that some times in a other Video but I don't know this model from Toshiba XR-Z70. weaktbit

    Hi I have a CD 473 which has a problem with skipping in higher tracks of the CD. I have cleaned the laser lens with isopropyl and this has helped somewhat. I will order new capacitors for the power supply. How did you adjust laser diode? Is this the potentiometer shown in section D4 of the PCB at 18:09 in the video? Turn clockwise to increase gain? Thanks from New Zealand.

    • @weakbit633
      @weakbit633  Год назад

      Hello Rory, I'm sorry to hear that but if this Laser is on the end of live it is a little help to turn the current higher (Trimmer 3528) but this help only a little - the light intensity is gone. The other story is that this Laser-Pickup is never more in production and you can get in nowhere there is nothing on new-old stock only the complete drive I think. It is a CDM2/0500 drive and this is very rare on the market. But search at eBay sometimes is there a drive available. The issue is the Laser-Diode and this Diode have 3Pins and the organization is other then the Laser-Diodes they are on the market. The Pin 11-8 Monitor-Diode, 11-9 Laser-Diode and Pin 11-10 GND. But the Anode or on Pin 11-10. Newer Laser-Diode with Monitor Diode have the Monitor diode build in inverse so you can't use them. The Laser-Diode Anode is connect to the Kathode from the Monitor-Diode and this is the issue. I would inverse the measurement current from this diode and then the IC TDA5708 is died in my Player. What did you said if we made a Laser-Pickup in this style by our own with a 3D Printer? I've one PhotonS here in my kitchen! That will be nice if we print one Laser-Pickup out. weakbit

      Yes the own! - CD880 from Philips. I don't think so there are magnets they are falling apart this is a normal iron (Fe) and coils that making the Magnetic field to position the lens up/down. I think more on the low laser light that less reflecting the signal back from the CD. What do you have for a CDM? mechanism?
