I’d like to add that most clips in this video were recorded before Frontiers released. I decided to keep them in because even after release, none of my points changed and all of them are still valid
The amount of toxic positivity in the fanbase is insane to the point where we can barely have a good discussion before something releases. The "game hasn't come out yet" card does work sometimes but most of the time fans just use it thinking someone hates a sonic game. Good vid.
FINALLY someone made a video on this. jesus. i felt like i was going crazy being seemingly the only one to notice this, especially in the pre-release of sonic frontiers when we found out all cyberspace levels were reskins. appreciate this video. subbed
Wish the Sonic community could evolve like how Sonic Team is doing with Sonic's new formula. I get that theres fans (Especially kids) who are passionate about Sonic and are tired of seeing Sonic getting beaten alot of timea for unfair reasons, but still the way toxic Sonic fans try to defend Sonic is just straight up sad and shows how low they will go all over for a blue fictional animal. This year is supposed to be "The Year For Sonic", where fans can feel like they can be proud of saying that they like Sonic. After seeing how toxic Sonic fans send death threats and harassment towards Genshin or other RUclipsrs who gave fair criticism towards Frontiers (Not saying all Genshin fans are innocent, in fact some of the fans uses bots too), especially all over getting Froniters to win the copium choice awards, honestly still feel ashame and embarrassed to say that I'm a Sonic fan in public. Hell Sonic Team must be embarrassed by how the toxic community be acting which who can blame them.
Right after the gameplay was first premiered by IGN, it was very apparent. Many kept saying stuff like “Y’all will never get satisfied” to those who pointed out flaws. All this shows is that even if improvements weren’t made, they would’ve still bashed at those who criticized the game and called the game “PEAK”.
For me personally I rather talk about the positivity of something than the negative, but that's not say anything goes without criticism. It's mostly a difference between fans and fanboys, who are people that will like something for the sake of liking it.
Exactly. Criticism towards a game, as long as it's constructive, doesn't equal hate towards it. I can agree that Sonic Frontiers has some issues that can definitely be improved on yet I love the game regardless
No one would’ve watched the first Sonic movie if we didn’t criticises it, People on Twitter can’t seem to see the difference between good criticism and bad criticism You can take switchforce take on frontiers first trailer reveal as an example.
Sonic frontiers is argued by so many people to be the best sonic game, it’s like they’re trying to force a game that has not good physics on to people’s opinions, kinda strange.
At this point it isn’t even a joke I can’t tell if most sonic fans forgot about the other good games the franchise offers or if they’re new to the fan base, it’s such a weird change in most sonic fans’ behavior
My boi, you made some good points here. This is why the Sonic fanbase with never be taken seriously for how they act. I even made a comment on Twitter where I stated that I didn't like that fact that Ranking is back in cyberspace and when someone who followed me didn't like my take, I replied how I felt about it and then they blocked me lol. It's so ignorant that they act like this.
Slightly? The whole game is far better than Forces, Boss Fights are Distinct & Creative minus The End, there's more to do, it's longer, Script is competent and not any "We can win with power of friendship" bs, they put more and actual effort into this game, it's legit superior to Forces in every way.
They put the power of friendship stuff at the end where everyone saved him from the corruption by holding hands We constantly see Sage tell Sonic that he’ll lose and that’s his fate, so it would’ve been cool if we got a "I have no limit" scene like the Archie comics where he says something like he controls his destiny and he fights the corruption by his will power
@@Spidey_.The thing is, Frontiers fanboys complain about Archie, especially the Limit part even when the parts they criticise have nothing to do with Ken Penders so the 'limit' reference is off limits for their games
"It's not even out yet" is the only one I believe is the best because the devs had time to fix things up and look at how Fronteirs became since the video by IGN, they made improvements after that.
to try to dismiss a counter point to this video that I thought up about, you have to note that there is a difference between constructive criticism and destructive criticism. Most (not all though) sonic tubers who, especially at first, criticised the game, legitimately wanted to see it improve, meaning it was constructive. People often dismiss any sort of criticism under the premise that it was to hurt Sonic Frontiers and the franchise, but, in reality, the intent of these complaint videos was to encourage improvement, and it did work fairly well too! I'm not saying that any and all criticism was necessarily deserved, as there are a select few sonic tubers who will complain about the game for more attention, but the vast majority just like Sonic and want to see the blue blur become better. thanks to coming to my youtube comment rant lol
I talked about the difference between constructive criticism and just complaining in the video Criticism does help and it will help future games in the franchise
Hey so I finally watched the video sorry it took so long for me to watch it. Anyways I figure I’d finally watch it now because I also saw some toxic positivity for the Knuckles show as of recent. The criticisms and points in this video are PERFECT. You perfectly summarized the problem with toxic positivity, why it’s wrong and why people are wrong to be toxic positive. In a fanbase where there’s always people forcing others to not criticize and blindly like things, dogpile on people who don’t agree with their POV and are just toxic in general it’s always nice to have a guy like you in the fandom who is the complete opposite of that and will call out any of them mfs who are toxic. Thanks for this amazing video bro this is what the fandom needed……
When yakkocmn, TelekinesticMan criticized Sonic Frontiers, it made me feel bad to see the fandom who didn't accept it and attacked him. Watch Sonic Fantears Review. It's a great video.
As a Sonic fan who doesn’t use Twitter…what the heck did I miss?! I remember RUclips being a whole different story; we were all thinking the game was going to bomb hard after the first trailer and were setting our expectations super low, hoping that they could maybe fix the physics at least before launch 😅 I do understand why there was a bit of toxic positivity for that game in particular though. We all thought Sonic Rangers was going to be a make or break moment for the next decade of the franchise after the good will from the movie
I’m sorry that you had experience with it, but neither are worse than the other and both are bad I’ve just seen a ton of toxic positivity so I made a video on it. It’s that simple
@@Spidey_. I just meant that when it comes to toxic negativity in the Sonic series, too much of it causes Sega to change things, but never in a good way! People complain about Sonic's friends, but never in a constructive or sensible way that makes any kind of sense. It's never just "I prefer it when Sonic is the only playable character." It's more "URGH, SONIC'S STINKY FRIENDS ARE ALL AWFUL! GET RID OF 'EM OR I'M NEVER PLAYING ANOTHER SONIC GAME EVER AGAIN!!!!!" And yet, this honestly wouldn't be so bad if the people at Sega just rolled their eyes and ignored these whiners, because clearly these kinds of people will complain about Sonic's friends even when they're at their best. But instead, Sega seem to be reluctant to utilizing Sonic's friends to their full potential. Now that's either Sega listening to this crap, or that's one heck of a coincidence. It's the same with practically anything that people mindlessly complain about when it comes to Sonic. If these people kick up that much of a stink about something, Sega seem to listen. That's why there's been so much focus on classic imagery and nostalgia. Because of people whining about how "Sonic should go back to his roots!" That's why the stories have been so light hearted and mediocre for the past few years. Because people were whining about how "stories in Sonic games always suck! They take themselves way too seriously! It's just a dumb video game for dumb kids!" See what I mean? There's clearly nothing wrong with a bit of constructive criticism, but when people whine "WAAAHH, DON'T LIKE IT, GET RID OF IT, REEEE!!!!!" then they clearly don't deserve to be catered to! These are the kinds of people who shouldn't be allowed to dictate what can and can't be in a Sonic game! Negativity should never be a driving force behind any series!
Those are literally casuals who were saying that stuff. They aren’t in the fan base I already talked about toxic negativity in the video so I don’t get what you’re even doing. You’re essentially just repeating what I said Look at the people within the fanbase who are being toxically negative and call them out rather than casuals who don’t really care about the franchise
@@Spidey_. It honestly doesn't matter if they're fans or casuals, as long as Sega caters to them it's a problem. Like I said before, people complain about Sonic's friends, and nowadays they aren't being utilized to their full potential; just stuck on the sidelines as Sonic's cheerleaders! People complain about the stories being "too serious and edgy" and how "the stories don't matter because nobody cares about the narrative or characterisation!" Nowadays, the stories characters have minimal effort put into them. Sega even hired two writers who freely admitted that they knew little to nothing about the Sonic series! People complained about Sonic's eye colour in Sonic 4 and whined that "Sonic should go back to his roots!" And so for the past ten years or so Sega have been obsessed with shoving Sonic's old design, retro levels and nostalgia into every game imaginable! Either this is Sega giving into toxic negativity, or these are all very convenient coincidences!
It does matter because I’m literally talking about the FANBASE, not casuals You once again talked about casuals rather than the actual fan base. Just stop it, dude
My biggest pet peeve with the Sonic fanbase is how they’re allergic to accepting and respecting different opinions. For example, some Modern Era fanboys get made at me for simply not liking Roger Craig Smith’s Sonic voice. But ya know what? They can stay mad. Cause I think Ryan Drummond did it better.
I do say another thing that toxic positivity became a thing is toxic negativity. Don't get it wrong, I know Sonic games ain't above criticism. But it sometimes still doesn't excuse: 1) Making and abuse false claims(Stupid friends) 2) People badly playing what game 3) Because one dud begins people saying the entire franchise is bad 4) Some double standarding 5) By fake fans for me I think saying the like the series but they believe there's always bad games since day 1 Basically in all short, media being negative. Sorry if it's long.
I know most of the time the people say that the Sonic community are toxic despite I don't spend much time with the Sonic community itself but, actually, the only time that I was witness of their toxicity and get a bad experience with their toxic behavior, it was in the Hedgehog Engine Discord server. I was looking for a partners for give me a hand for the modding into Sonic Frontiers since I have still somes issue into the modding when I create my own mods so I accept any kind of help, even from those who are new but know a bit more than me, for give me somes good tips and check an eye into my own mods. However nobody answer me because they was too much focus to talk about a sort of drama story about a user who get banned or something but I didn't pay too much attention about it since it's none of my business. However, one week later, I notice nobody answer my question due to talk too much about their drama story so, when I have try to ask the same question again by wonder if this time they will notice my question, I meet somes kiddo from the admin/moderators who threatened to ban me if I spam the same question because they though I was a bot or a scam and I have nicely say without be vulgar and by stay calm that I'm into their server because I was searching for someone for give me a hand into the modding since somes people advices me the Hedgehog Engine server if I wanted somes help about the modding for those last Sonic games unless it's my fault and that I'm not in the good server for talk and ask about modding tips and help so, somes times later, I notice I get banned from Hedgehog Engine server. Maybe because I wasn't toxic for them unlike those dude who was throw insult and salty comment to someone for one week without they get banned until they change conversation so, even if I like somes Sonic games, I confirm the community can be toxic and it even contaminate the modding community as well so, since this accident who happend somes month ago, I can say I don't appreciate too much the Sonic community. I know everyone isn't like that but it still sad though so I don't advice for anyone to go to the Hedgehog Engine server except if you really want to meet somes people with a big toxic behavior.
I’m sorry that happened, bro Sadly there’s multiple bad and toxic discord servers. I remember one time I was in Games Cage’s discord server and my pfp was a NFL player. They all harassed me for it and called the player a nobody for no reason. Little did they know that same player led the league in INT’s 💀 Basically this isn’t anything new and it’s sad that it won’t stop because no one calls it out

I really wish the Sonic Fanbase would just ignore negativity towards their game and just brush it off, it’s hard but easy.
I also wish they would stop attacking people within the fandom who have different opinions.
Godzilla fans are the new sonic fans
This is why I don’t communicate with the toxic Sonic fandom. They’re just as bad as toxic Dragon Ball fans.
