I'm glad splash dash commented on the mario movie vs sonic movies debate. It really is just 2 fanbases fighting over which movie has more references instead which movie is actually good. The mario movie isn't even out yet so we don't know how it'll turn out but it really goes to show that when it comes to adaptations all people really care about is how much of the source material is referenced whether it's relevant to the story or not. Seeing somebody try to justify that the original live action mario is better than the first sonic movie because it has more game elements just shows how much people really care about that stuff over getting an actually solid film.

I played Sonic Heroes and I ended up not liking the game because of the controls. The controls were very frustrating which made the game more difficult to control the characters properly. It seemed like they didn't have time to work on it anymore.
2022 was definitely a good year for Sonic with a successful movie, a good video game that gave character rerailment, and a decent TV series on Netflix.
well but THE YEAR OD HAADOW WILL DEFINATLY GO BETTER (i mean the start is fire with one of the best modern sonic games we got in a while pls Sonic Movie 3 coming up but my hope isnt set very high)
I loved the sonic 2 movie just cause it’s super cute and wholesome I mean I’d love a more edgy sonic and knuckles- sonic adventure 2 trilogy or something crazy but I’m just happy it’s a wholesome movie Though I get sick of pop songs in movies 😂
I think Sega also at one point said 2021 was gonna be the Year of Sonic and if that was gonna be the case then they didn’t even try, all we got for actual content was Colors Ultimate which I was able to enjoy enough since I hadn’t played the original but it was still hated, aside from that we only had the Sonic Symphony which was great but still
8:03 Sonic Heroes didn't sell nearly 6 million, but 3.41 million. It's why Frontiers has now been declared the best selling 3D Sonic game as it's hit 3.5 million.
I don’t think the Mario movie will be better than the first Sonic movie and maybe even the second Sonic movie because of “LOL REFERENCES”, I think it’ll be better because it doesn’t just look like a generic glorified buddy cop film or have constant unnecessary pop-culture references and shitty pop songs like most Hollywood schlock and actually utilizes more characters from the Mario franchise outside of just Mario and Bowser like how the first Sonic movie only uses Sonic and Robotnik as the only pre-existing Sonic characters. The Mario movie also looks like an actual epic adventure while the first two Sonic movies (ESPECIALLY the first Sonic movie) don’t feel nearly as epic in terms of scope or adventure. I’m just saying most people who are saying that they already like the Mario movie more than the Sonic movies most likely have way more reasons for liking it more than just “MUH REFERENCES”. I especially hate how you make the Mario fans look like the bad guys when Sonic fans almost ALWAYS start it. I still remember back near the end of 2021 when Sonic fans were being extremely obnoxious and gloating about how “amazing” the Sonic Movie 2 was going to be and how “awful” and “soulless” the Mario Movie was going to be even though we hadn’t even seen a fucking SCREENSHOT of the Mario Movie yet. I’m just saying that Sonic fans are not always the innocent ones and you shouldn’t act like they’re always the victim.
He didn't really make sonic fans look like the victim, he actually criticizes them quite a bit. Also you didn't really disprove that references aren't going to be what carriers the Mario movie.
6:32 I thought more about how much more repetitive the game would be if they had put more than 4 teams when that is already a main complaint with the base game.
Also Sonic CD and Sonic Chaos (idk if that counts as mainline or not if not then 3 spinoffs) I think the Archie Comics started in 1993 as well (also looked it up The Fleetway Comics started in 1993 as well)
I feel like 2003 would have made a much more appropriate "Year of Sonic" if Sonic Mega Collection was released that year. Unfortunately, the GC version came out in late 2002, while the Plus version came out in late 2004. The MC was the best Sonic game of the 6th generation. Prove me wrong.
I can think of so many ways to make the Mario movie interesting besides putting references in there, because I really love Mario, but we all know that there is only a small chance that illumination will actually do that
I'm gonna disregard controversies for a moment and bring attention to Sonic Speed Simulator as well. Before crap hit the fan, this was an enjoyable semi-open world Sonic experience as I awaited the release of Frontiers. That too released in 2022, so we Sonic fans truly were eating good last year.

Damn not even bringing up the absolute GOLD IDW was pumping out all 2022 and still 2022 comes out on top
I snuck in IDW into the 2022 title card for you boys 👊
21:39 Kid was actually about to ask if that was Sonic.exe LMFAO
2022 was definitely a good year for Sonic with a successful movie, a good video game that gave character rerailment, and a decent TV series on Netflix.
well but THE YEAR OD HAADOW WILL DEFINATLY GO BETTER (i mean the start is fire with one of the best modern sonic games we got in a while pls Sonic Movie 3 coming up but my hope isnt set very high)
The lego sonic set was also a really cool part.about last year as well.
21:41 "is that sonic.exe?" made me laugh
21:41 Did that kid REALLY say what I thought they were gonna say?
Yes and i feel bad for the kid because they are SO DUMB THAT THEY TOUGHT EXE WAS CANON
Im glad Frontiers did well Roger finally got some good direction (glad u liked it to SD)
Another Heroes aficionado 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Well look who it is, it's been years since I've watched a video from you.
Holy crap it's my favorite sonic RUclipsr: Pretty okay Soda
Thank you, kid, who said, "Is that sonic.exe?" We salute you
21:41 “IS THAT SONIC DOT EXE?!”
I loved the sonic 2 movie just cause it’s super cute and wholesome
I mean I’d love a more edgy sonic and knuckles- sonic adventure 2 trilogy or something crazy but I’m just happy it’s a wholesome movie
Though I get sick of pop songs in movies 😂
I think Sega also at one point said 2021 was gonna be the Year of Sonic and if that was gonna be the case then they didn’t even try, all we got for actual content was Colors Ultimate which I was able to enjoy enough since I hadn’t played the original but it was still hated, aside from that we only had the Sonic Symphony which was great but still
Dude, the stupidest fucking grin appeared on my face at 9:03
I'm something of a LEGO Movie fan myself :)
Getting a lot of LS Mark Vibes from Splash dash
Oh boy has this video aged fine
8:03 Sonic Heroes didn't sell nearly 6 million, but 3.41 million. It's why Frontiers has now been declared the best selling 3D Sonic game as it's hit 3.5 million.
Crazy how the year of shadow has utterly decimated ANY year of sonic so far. Movie 3 just needs to finish with flying colours.
How did you end up feeling about the Mario Movie?
At 21:42 the kid was saying is that sonic exe
21:42 IS THAT SONIC.E-
I need a gun NOW
21:41 "Is that Sonic.exe!?"
Was that kid at the theater saying "IS THAT SONIC.EXE" ???
Yes and that kid probably doesnt play sonic games
Yes the cut out the last second for a comedic effect
6:32 I thought more about how much more repetitive the game would be if they had put more than 4 teams when that is already a main complaint with the base game.
say what you want, but I definitely think 2023 will be the Year of Splash Dash
THE KID SAYING "SONIC.EXE" KILLED ME
I'd say 1993 was the first "year of sonic"; in that year, we got two sonic cartoons, and two new sonic spin-offs.
Also Sonic CD and Sonic Chaos (idk if that counts as mainline or not if not then 3 spinoffs) I think the Archie Comics started in 1993 as well (also looked it up The Fleetway Comics started in 1993 as well)
21:41 “IS THAT SONIC.EX-“
YES ANOTHER LS MA- i mean... Splash dash video
The Year of Sonic ain't got nothing on the Year of Luigi
I feel like 2003 would have made a much more appropriate "Year of Sonic" if Sonic Mega Collection was released that year. Unfortunately, the GC version came out in late 2002, while the Plus version came out in late 2004.
The MC was the best Sonic game of the 6th generation. Prove me wrong.
In traditional cultures it's considered auspicious if a child is born during a Sonic year.
When Mark- I MEAN…Splash Dash started talking about Sonic Boom, I always wanted to see a Rank Video of all the Sonic Boom Episodes
SPLASHY IS BACK
4:39 I haven't watched Sonic X in years, so I don't remember Shadow sounding like that lol
Griffith still the goat though
He's not a goat he's a human
@@pixelluka07Sorry, spelling mistake
@@HazeX2 what spelling mistakes are you talking about
@@pixelluka07 I didn't make any spelling mistakes, what are you talking about
@@HazeX2 what are YOU talking about
You're saying Jason is a goat when he's clearly a human
And then YOU say that I have spelling mistakes
Oh bless that kid who said "is that Sonic.exe?"
Sonic origins is goated
I like that this video has audio that implies that Mark is actually drowning in years of sonic.
21:41 "is that sonic.exe" 💀💀
Also the IDW comics had some excellent issues this year especially issue #50 which was amazing. I feel like IDW is slept on a lot it’s really good
19:12 God dammit mark I mean splashdash they listened
"is that sonic.exe?"
You poor child
When the franchise ended, Sonic Ear saved him, and this is an undeniable fact.
22:25 should've inserted RLM saying "I RECOGNISED IT AND I CLAPPED!"
where is the music in 7:10 from? i wanna sample that and make a song
It's this song that plays during sad moments in cutscenes in Sonic Adventure 1: ruclips.net/video/Kv2UZNjZj0A/видео.html
@@TenshiCat wow, thanks a lot man!
4:19 Thank you for pointing out which dub you were watching before the English dub haters came after you
So 2003 was a year of Sonic. No wonder why I’m such a sonic nerd
