2:37 I mean, you could argue that reallistically Motobugs could probably be just way cheaper to build, so after the more advanced models clearly didn't work any better for stopping Sonic, Eggman just went back to using the cheaper ones that were also doing just as much work done.

considering that the robots in heroes-unleashed seem to be using some sort of chaos drive-like power source and that he returns to the animal powered badniks in lost world (and technically colors first but with wisps) he might just have run out of the resources required to produce chaos energy or had his infrastructure crippled somehow, this makes even more sense when you consider that the plots of color and lost world are just eggman looking to harvest some new form of energy to take over the world

Imo the most iconic Sonic villain is the Eggpawn introduced in Heroes that keeps popping up in other media, and idk why the games thought we needed to go back to JUST Badniks or change the Eggpawn design constantly. In 06 it KINDA made sense with the desire to make things more "realistic" looking, but after that like...it just seemed they kept being redesigned for the sake of gameplay. The ones in Unleashed look and act the way they do for Werehog quicktime events, and then in Forces they're just...balls with eyes, arms, and legs...which just really belies a "rushed product" energy.

The one thing I’ve always loved about sonic aliens is how extreme and different they get with the designs
The Black Arms and how bleak and grim their designs are
From Chronicles, The Zoah and Kron being so detailed (shouted to General Raxos for one of the most metal designs) while the Nrrgal and Voxai are very simple and goofy
Even the comics with Archies Xorda and Fleetways Drakon
The only aliens looking close to something from sonic is the wisps, and even then they still have a bit of uniqueness to them
And now with how frontiers was, I hope we return to having some more alien threats so they can get a lot more experimental with designs again
(Also when it comes to robot designs in sonic, shoutout to Master Core: ABIS for being one of the best designed robots eggmans ever made)

Sonic feels very ill-definied, unlike their rival, Mario, where it feels you know what to expect with enemies from Mario.
And because of this, it makes it seem like Sonic's world is more dangerous as you don't know if you are gonna get something ridiculous or a real threat.
But in this way its able to encourage experimentation as there isn't something to hold them back. That's not to say they don't put thought into who they are letting in their games.
Its clear Mario's whimsical enviroments contrast with Sonic's more talltale industrial settings.

The Gameboy games had bizarre enemies never seen again too.

It felt weird that eggman stopped using eggrobo's. For a start they fit the egg theme more than any robot, but also they looked like him. As if he was so full of himself he wanted his face on each of them.
But 3rdly the eggrobo's have a secondary function. To pilot his eggmobile and machines. Giving us a reason to reuse his boss encounters in canon, but also explains how he gets them to these zones.
Like they were his workers behind the scenes. Glad mania brought them back but I wish they stayed.

@@jurassicarkjordanisgreat1778 Just Zavok mainly. Outside of the mobile spinoffs (Sonic Dash, Sonic Runners, and Speed Battle) as well as some of the Mario & Sonic Olympic Games entries, the Deadly Six aren't really pushed by SEGA.
It's mainly Zavok who gets more spotlight by virtue of being the leader, and his role in Forces is so minimal that the character himself was never actually in the game; Just a clone created by the Phantom Ruby. His only other mainline game appearance was Team Sonic Racing as part of Eggman's team, which is weird.
The comics are a different story, as the writer included the Deadly Six in IDW Sonic of his own choice. For two separate arcs. Zavok was even featured in the spin-off comic series "Bad Guys."
And I want to make it clear; Yes, SEGA has to approve everything that happens in the comics, but that doesn't necessarily mean that is what SEGA themselves want. They don't dictate what goes on in the comics. They may offer suggestions here and there, but regarding IDW Sonic, the writer has never had to use a character that he himself did not want to use.

Add to the fact that they first show up in Rhea, an already eerily empty area which is visited during a point in the story where Sonic is literally in the process of becoming a digital vegetable statue, and the Bubble enemy is guaranteed to show up in "scariest enemies in kids games" lists 10-20 years from now.

I feel like in terms of what game presented the best designs for the classic badniks *(like Motobug or Buzz Bomber or Crabmeat whatever),* Colors and Generations, hands down, is the best in that department. Managing to heavily modernize and update their looks whilst also not straying too far from what they were initially supposed to look like, on top of having a good balance between looking ridiculously adorable and menacingly badass as well. The fact that they also manage to fit in seamlessly with some of the other modern and recent robot enemies like the Egg Pawns or Egg Fighters or G.U.N. Bots is just the cherry on top.
All the more reasons as to why those 2 are some of my most favorite Sonic games to play.

One enemy type that was pretty interesting and unique was the Egg Shackle from Sonic Unleashed. They were these small spiked balls with the robotic-smiley face that the rest of the Eggman Robots all had in Unleashed. What really made them interesting was that unlike the other robots that would simply shoot at you or otherwise hit you, the Egg Shackle acted more like a trap or hazard than an offensive enemy. They're deployed in large groups directly ahead of you in the Day Stages like a Spike Strip. If you make contact with one, it latches onto Sonic and impedes your jump height and starts draining your Rings. It's actually quite similar to the Toxomister in Lava Reef in that way. But while you could simply jump over or simply defeat the Toxomister to get rid of it's Toxic Mist, the Egg Shackle is much trickier to avoid since they are very small and hard to see, especially at the high speeds of Unleashed's gameplay, making it much more of a threat.

For some reason I've always adored the badnik designs from CD/Chaotix, as well as the 8-bit entries developed by Aspect. They've just always looked so sleek, cool and futuristic to me, much more menacing and creative than most of the mainline classic games (well, not all of the designs are great, but like at least half are). I actually think they gel pretty nicely with the adventure-era badniks and would make for a nice transitional phase between Eggman's classic and modern robots as they combine both the cutesy style of the older ones and the more futuristic and mechanical designs of the newer ones.

I actually really like the name of erazor djinn's final form because it's a reference to the arabian nights in arabic(if you translate alf layla wa layla it would give you 1001 nights)

controversial: but sonic has always been about chasing a trend or trying to establish one, they've hardly ever stuck to one mode of operation for even 5 years. It's no surprise that they dont really have any iconic enemies because the scope of a sonic game is random as hell.
OG era was just Robotnik, 3D era introduced chaos and yet another mass produced eggman robot style, Boost era decided to get more Eldritch and involve more Aliens, now we're on evangelion designs

It does annoy me that Eggman did nothing within those 6 months in Forces because I can guarantee Eggman would do exactly what Dr. Doofenshmirtz did in the 1st Phineas and Ferb movie. Putting his face, logo and statues literally everywhere.

The Toxomister enemy from Lava Reef really reminds me of those Micro Goomba enemies that come from the Paragoombas from Super Mario Bros. 3 that also hinder your jump height. I was wondering on why I didn't jump as high and stuff when I first played Super Mario Bros. 3 and just decide to go in the pit and start the level again until I found out that it's point is to slow Mario down. This one is pretty similar towards that and pretty clever as well. :)

I find it comical that Eggman can go on siege against the world in 6 months and not have everything roboticized but blow up the Earth's core and then build a whole theme park in the Earth's core about 3 days after blowing up said Earth

  • @self-absorbed5269

Actually the Stone Giant was made by Gerald Robotnik after studying ancient tech.
The Golem from S&K has a hockey mask design , as seen in a recent comic.
And King Boom Boo has a rainbow tongue and burning breath as clues about his death.
The king and all of his followers died from every STD , know and unknown.

I don’t mind so much if the enemy designs aren’t consistent, but I can’t stand when they don’t even try to make anything new.
Frontiers was such a breath of fresh air when it came to that. Idk, but I liked the design of nearly every enemy there. Asura, Ninja, Sumo, Caterpillar, and Ghost were my favorites.

I'll still never understand how people EXIST in the sonic universe. Like in every single city zone, there are bottomless pits, railings and speed pads in HORRIBLY inconvenient spots. Or same thing with the more organic areas like green hills or the countless island zones. Like, what type of hellish place are they living in? Also why did architects think that the best use of taxpayer money was a speed pad in the middle of the road pointed TOWARDS the ledge. I love Sonic and I think so many of the levels are fun and flow nicely, but I will never find it any less goofy

Common Splash Dash W video. But about Frontiers enemies, I honestly think the design of all the ancient technology that makes up Frontiers enemies look sick, I love the guardians and titans but the aesthetic DOES grow old. If I had to describe the look I would say "cool but repetitive"
