- Sonic Frontiers has so many different Speedstrats. I thought the official Sega made video was really cool! It gave me the idea to show you guys the Speedstrats Sega wouldnt want to share because theyre so broken. Also having the perspective of someone whos a top speedrunner in the game is pretty cool :D

I had initially tried to make a custom font that had the button symbols in it so I could make that effect modular... ended up doing it manually when I realized that would be quicker and easier 😅

When you realise that the first DLC fixed the speed upgrade so you can do that in full immediately, and many other things like optional Power Boost cutscene toggle, Starfall Slots toggle, just basically fixing a lot of stuff…
huge to have these quality of life things for sure! the speed upgrade thing is so nice but prob still wont be used in speedruns because you need a LOT of kocos to level it up and it only effects speed while NOT boosting. Power Boost is still gonna be way faster!

@@Emerldd I noticed during the bosses section you didn't talk about knight,any hot tips for beating him quickly,I ask because he really gave me a hard time on extreme difficulty for some reason, but I beat giganto and wyvern on my first try

Sonic is the sort of platformer character whose physics are pretty much custom built to sequence break, imo: an already high intentional max speed means he nestles up much closer to bypassing collision checks than a slower character would, so it requires much less of an increase to bypass those barriers. And that’s in addition to his crazy aerial mobility throughout the series: doubled acceleration while airborne in the Genesis era, homing attack since Adventure, Boost since Unleashed, and Double Jump since Colors, all of which get stacked on TOP of one another
i agree and disagree! where i see what you mean by him having a higher potential to break games. every sonic game is made with the idea of him going fast. most of the skips are found from people messing around with really specific things! its not like sega doesnt expect people to try to go fast in most places where the player would be in the game. i know sometimes sega isnt the best at making a 100% solid game but you gotta give them SOME credit LOL speedrunners are just very creative!

That’s actually what I mean: Sonic games aren’t seen as buggy due to a lack of programming knowledge, or even because there’s more mistakes than most games. It’s just that a character already built as a lightweight speedrun makes it easier for players to find these sorts of “speed hacks”, because he doesn’t NEED to Backwards Long Jump to hit ridiculous speed
They do a dang good job, it’s just a hard mode programming challenge when Sonic can take an inch and run with it for a mile. I love it
From what I've played so far (about half of Chaos Island) the game felt kinda janky to control, so seeing people do stuff like this is super cool. Gotta go try doing some slingshots so I can get a bit of ✨ *_schmoovement_* ✨ in
It takes a bit to get used to the movement in any game especially to the level of a speedrunner so don’t stress! Lemme know if you have any questions slingshot! It’s super fun once you get the hang of them

yeah HSP is really rough especially at 60 FPS. took me like 2 hours of practice to even get it 1/5 times

Awesome vid man. Found myself struggling with the slingshot a bit and the tips for the bosses were very helpful. Thanks :)
For anyone struggling with Joshua Method the way it's done in the video you can use the right side of the portal as well. All you need to do is make your way to the side of the 1-2 portal closest to where the Tower enemy is spawned in. Try to align the camera perpendicular to the portal (so that it's facing towards the rock face in the background) and face Sonic towards the side of it. You'll be able to jump towards the side of the portal and land on a small bit of collision. Sonic can stand on this if you don't hold a direction. With Sonic now facing looking straight at the side of the portal, you need to very slightly hold forward until Sonic starts to slowly walk and immediately boost when he starts to walk. You should get a high enough launch to be able to make it onto the invisible collision above the area. The rest is the same

yeah! its too bad it still wont be used in the speedrun since it takes forever to get enough kocos to get him to max anyways :(
i found you can also use a hsp on the tower boss aswell to get over the wall at the start of the island without needing to do the wall stuff. probs is slower tho
i think its also with the pre release dlc which gave the skill points at the start
Ye only possible with the preorder DLC so we ban that in runs to be fair to the people who didn’t preorder but it is possible to get over that way yeah!

I agree and disagree! When these tricks were found by Speedrunners I don’t think they were intended. However, now that they’re common knowledge and shown all over the place online and sega STILL hasn’t patched them out. I def would say they ARE intended now. Most of these the casual player won’t find on their own anyways

slam storage? idk what you mean lol but basically you get the speed from sonic teleporting above the enemy but canceling it with a boost and keeping the momentum
@@Emerldd slam storage is a tech from a game called ultrakill, which achieves a similar effect of abusing momentum and launching the player really high really quickly

I pull of “Hitting the Griddy” way too many times on accident during fights when I try using the homing shot attack and I have died so many times to this little mistake due to a miss imput
I hate how easy it is to accidentally do moves I don’t want to. Wish there was a way to toggle on and off moves you wanted to use

The bosses are the worst part, they're just mashing once they're opened up for damage and abusing parries. The end is dumb but it is the most challenging thing in the game and pretty fun
I will say yes, this game isn’t hard casually at all. But no sonic game has been difficult casually in years! Not really what it’s meant for. I agree that damage scaling is VERY bad tho because if you upgrade your attack in this game you just melt bosses. Haven’t tried Extreme mode but hopefully that fixes it :)

The intricate science of Sonic Frontiers but srsly, this has to be the dark souls of speedrun, the amount of precision, frontiers jank and not messing up that you need is insane, almost like OoT, hopefully not as ridiculous
honestly this game isnt too bad! yes it becomes a bit hard at super top level but most of the tricks are easy to perform, or require just a bit of extra practice! honestly a pretty beginner friendly speedrun. BUT yeah once you need to hit every trick first try or risk losing a bunch of time, youre right it gets kinda hard. and yeah OOT is super cool but VERY rediculous. SRM is a little bit much for my tiny brain
i think the sidestep will improved in the future
id be curious to see how they do it if they do cause its already super cool now! but you never know

About the Elder Koco... they just patched the upgrade process. You can level up in bulk now.
i know :) this video came out before the update! still isnt useful for the speedrun sadly since you have to pick up hundreds of kocos and routing those in takes a lot of time

@@Emerldd I found that a few days ago while trying to Speedrun Kronos. It saved a few seconds when messed up. I actually covered it on my channel. Not many people saw it tho, it only has 2 subscribers

It MIGHT effect 100% runs but it doesn’t change any%. Although we can level it up way faster, power boost is still the same speed at level 1 and 99. Also it still takes extra time to route in a Kocos to level it up anyways. So I’m 98% sure we still won’t use speed levels :/
@@Emerldd afaik, speed affects more than just running speed, it also affects how fast you climb magnetic walls, how far the airboost can send you, etc, so I think it could MAYBE have an effect that way
I speedran kronos island less than 7 minutes, the island was 37% done I just speedran the island by fishing lol
the % complete sadly only refers to how many map challenges youve done :( wish there was some way that the game kept track of actual %completed

nah he runs off the cliff to cancel the 2nd cutscene! because sonic dies in the cutescene it tricks the game into thinking youre not in the cutscene because youre not able to die in them normally and it skips it

@@TheRealMidnight I mention they talked about it at 7:08 LOL the reason why I talk about Hitting The Griddy in this video is because it’s one of the most important pieces of speedtech in this game and this video goes over general speedtech and skips. It’s also the only thing in this video mentioned by sega/kishimoto anywhere
I remember Harp ng on pinball and so many fans were defending it for no good God damn reason
to be fair theres just such a big range of success rate on that stage. some people will take an hour to beat it and some will beat it first try you know?so im sure the people that are defending it just beat it quickly and didnt have to suffer LMAO
