It may come as some surprise to you that us elder men were using speech synthesis on 8 bit machines as far back as the early 80's long before GUI's and sound cards were even a thing. =p

The lite banks will be free forever, and you can use them as much as you'd like. The full versions need to be paid for, but even the lite AI banks are excellent and amazing to mess with. It's a much better option than Vocaloid, the only problem is the fact that it's quite recent, so Vocaloid has a much larger catalogue. Not that it matters, as Vocaloid is no longer what it once was and V5 is the worst version of them all.

    • @RunningonairMusic
      @RunningonairMusic  2 года назад +1

Yes, the free ones are good. I'm looking forward to doing more with synth V soon.

The lite demo option has 1 pitch layer only for each bank, the paid voices have not only the commercial products allowed but 3 pitch layers, at least for now. The 5 Chinese banks other than the first Blonde girl, Aiko, and the guy, are all released by one company, and their character concept is they're a sister group- they have actually 4 pitch layers. As for doing English with Japanese or Chinese banks, it's been done before with mild success with Vocaloid voices, so should be possible here too, however, since Japanese only has 5 vowels, similar to Spanish, and lacks certain English sounds, and both Chinese and Japanese lack consonant clusters in the same sense that English does, it involves a lot of manual work, including not only the phonetic entry, but clever short notes to mimic sounds, perhaps changing formant (gender) parameters to mimic a certain sound, otherwise you'll still get highly accented result. For example the Japanese r sounds more like "tt" in a US accent with fast speech, or the non-trilled r in Spanish. There isn't an L sound, so you have to use r for L, and r w for the English r. Th in thin and that doesn't exist either. To do a cluster like 'sky' you'd need to use a short 'su' note followed by a 'ka' note, and then an 'i' note. The phonetics for the English bank are arpabet- you can use this site to look up words with the pronunciation : www.speech.cs.cmu.edu/cgi-bin/cmudict and this site breaks down the sounds, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARPABET - however there may be some sounds that are in Arpabet that are not in Synth V, I'm not sure, I'm used to the beta version that was used as a 3rd party synth engine called moresampler for a freeware called UTAU which later grew into this software, and I haven't tested this one. I like the phoneme length thing though, that's an exciting feature.

So, there's been some new developments with SynthV you might find interesting, so I'll put them here:
    - First is the AI voices. They're cheaper to produce and typically have a more expressive/realistic tone along with better pronunciation. There are AI voices available for English (Eleanor Forte AI, Solaria, Tsurumaki Maki ENG AI, ANRI, and KEVIN), Japanese (SAKI AI, Tsurumaki Maki JP AI, Koharu Rikka AI, RYO, Tsuina-chan, and Kyomachi Seika), and Chinese (QING SU).
    - If you have the paid editor and the full paid version of ANY AI voicebank, you now have the option to have them sing in any supported language (English, Chinese, and Japanese) other than their native language, by being able to use the dictionary in the language of your choice. This essentially renders all AI banks trilingual from the jump, regardless of what language they were recorded for.
    - Dreamtonics has launched their own storefront where you can purchase any vocals they have published along with the editor. So, you can buy SAKI, RYO, KEVIN and QING SU without having to tangle with currency conversions between USD and NT. Or with needing a Chinese phone number to purchase Qing Su off of Taobao.
    - The range of Lite voices has expanded to (as of February 2022) now include Tsurumaki Maki AI Lite English, Tsurumaki Maki AI Lite Japanese, Tsurumaki Maki Standard Lite English (this bank sounds like Ralph Wiggum which is quite funny), Tsurumaki Maki Standard Lite Japanese, SAKI AI Lite, Koharu Rikka Lite, Tsuina-Chan Lite, ANRI Lite, Kyomachi Seika Lite, etc.
    - A crowdfunding campaign for the English vocalist Solaria got enough funding and was released a few weeks ago. She's voiced by an actual Broadway singer, and seems to have been very successful commercially. So it's possible that her company may release more vocalists, or that there will be more interest in English voicebanks in the space.
    - We have an English male vocalist with Kevin. He is very good.

Amazing video, you did a great job on showing Eleanor's vocal capabilities.
I do not know whether you plan making more videos on vocal synthesizers but in case you will I would really enjoy it. There are a lot more interesting synthesizers as Vocaloid (pretty expensive but has more English support), UTAU (completely free but hard to work with first, especially for non-japanese users) or Realivox (English VST based synth with realistic sounds, not free) just to name some.
To that one point in the video:
I'm not a native English speaker myself but I made the experience making the non-english SynthesizerV voices sing in English (or another European language in general) is a lot easier then in other vocal synths, mostly because SynthesizerV doesn't require you to split the syllables for consonant clusters. (E.g. For Japanese, black would be /b r e k/ in SynthesizerV but bu re ku as single syllables in other synths.) Though, especially the Japanese voices will have a big accent.
(A great example of such a usage is the song "Someone New" by VocaCircus featuring Cangqiong, one of the Chinese voices.)

Thanks for the info. Yes, I might do at some stage. I'm mainly looking at regular synths, but just thought this was so interesting that it deserved a video. I'll definitely be using it more on my own tracks.

This is a really well-done and comprehensive video. I watched another one but that did not explain how to get the voice (Eleanor). Drag and drop--works. I look forward to more as you have time. As to Vocaloid, like others, I was put off by the price and the lack of a demo/free version. I can see this technology taking off. I'll next go to the international sales link.

Dreamtonics only provide the software and technology, voice banks are produced by other companies with the exception of Eleanor (originally one of the testing voices) and Saki. So it’s not that it was aimed at East-Asia, but that only East-Asian companies have been attracted to collaborate with them for now.
Probably because dreamtonics is a new company, they chose to use use Animen’s selling platform (Anicute) instead of creating their own, which unfortunately resulted in a confusing buying process for some. Animen is the Chinese company that owns ‘Aiko’.

As for tuning English from jpn and chn voice banks, it potentially requires multi-track editing and editing sounds by messing with dynamics. I was personally unable to rid jpn voice banks of their heavy accent, however I found it relatively easy to make chn voice banks sing English with barely any accent.

After struggling to get the EastWest Backup singers to sing something resembling English, why did I not know about this? The screens are daunting, especially in the absence of a manual, so thank you for allowing daylight in. As there is a new version out, perhaps now is the time for a new video, and perhaps you could spend more time on the basics, e.g. how do you import a midi file and from where? How does this work with Cubase or any other DAW? A really useful video- just need more!

I’m at the end of this video (which I was elated to see someone show what all the tools and icons are for) and you asked about other vocal synths.
I have Vocaloid and Emvoice One as well as SynthV Pro. My opinions are only mine so don’t troll me if you disagree.
I find Vocaloid, latest version, difficult to fine tune parameters. Half the voicebanks are AI with different parameters than the non AI Voices. You can’t mix them together.
Also all the voices speak multi-languages and tend to have Asian accents in English. The app and voices are expensive!
I’m sorry I broke down and bought Emvoice One. The “free” app is only a teaser, you pay for the voicebanks. The only parameters are preset styles and a vibrato slider.
I have “Lucy” and in my opinion, she’s not that great. You need an Internet connection to use Emvoice because what you type goes back to Emvoice’s server to produce the sound!
Very limited - and Big Brother can listen in.
Synthesizer V Pro is my latest vocal synth and I am amazed! I have Solaria, Natalie and Kevin voicebanks and can’t get over how real they sound!
The price for what you get is incredible! All of the parametric adjustments available make it the Rolls Royce of vocal synths.
There’s a bit of a learning curve but the results are astounding.
I see this video is from two years ago but I hope this comment is helpful and encouraging to others.
    Gianni❤

There is another program called Em voice. It doesn't have the same capabilities and doesn't sound as good, but has a different workflow. It can run right in your daw and can be controlled in your daw. This has a free version with a pitch range limited to 7 notes, not even an octave. Ther is a paid version.
There is yet another one called alter/ego from plogue. This even sounds less realistic, but can also be midi controlled in your daw. You type the words into it and it sings it as you send midi to it. Even though it doesn't sound as good it can be "played" like an instrument more than the others. I think this only has a free version. There are only two voices, info on a future third voice. I feel that only one of the voices are even decent sounding. But it is fun to play with a keyboard.
