Thanks for the video. The only problem with the Android boxes is that they don't have the Play/Pause button on the remote control, like the Firestick and Roku remotes have. Have you seen a universal remote control for Android boxes that has the Play/Pause button? Thanks again.

(Update I figured out how to get the USB and Ethernet working on the 2023 Onn box read my 2nd comment below) I was going to get 2 over the weekend after you sent me an email and ended up side tracked. You sent me another notification letting me know they are for order now. At first it said they were already sold out but I was persistent and was able to order two. I think you were right and they might go fast again. Usually I don't like notifications but I haven't minded yours. I appreciate what you do. So does my family they just don't realize it. I am going to be switching them off of Amazon devices I purchased for them in the past and if these onns work out, as I believe you in that they will, that's what they are going to be using now as I switch them out and say that they are the newest and best thing Lol. I have never passed down any of my Shields so they really don't know. Have a good day.
It took me a minute to figure out how get a USB splitter with Ethernet dongle and Ethernet working. The people who designed the Onn box for walmart set the micro USB port to charge only. But I got it working, this is what I did. Turn off wifi. Get into "developer options" and scroll down to "select USB configuration" switch it from "charging" to "RNDS (USB Ethernet)" go back scroll down and hit restart. When it powered back on with my OTG dongle connected with my USB 3 splitter with Ethernet, I now had an Ethernet connection and my USB keyboard also worked. It is now perfect. I also did not have any issues with external storage. Have fun

Great video. First problem I ran across with the updated ONN, is that it blocks you from setting a custom launcher as the default launcher. You can access wolf launcher, but no way to make it default. It prevents you from making it default in the launcher manager. I hope this isn't the start of Onn becoming like the Firestick
@@troypoint funny thing is, I had launcher manager installed, and everytime I clicked enable custom launcher, I was thrown out. I deleted it, and reinstalled from your tool box, and it works. Thanks for your reply Troy, your videos and other stuff is always informative.
Excellent info, and EXCELLENTLY shown and described, THANK YOU, Subscribed. I have one of these, note to folks, if you use a separate google account for your device (as I do), be sure to log into it once in a while or somethnig, otherwise after a year or two, it'll be disabled. Happened to me and things weren't working on the ONN to add any apps, etc. Used the Resolve option for the account, got it restored, and all was well with it again. VERY frustrating there's NO ONN help other than for their actual ONN/Roku TVs. Lost my manual (couldn't figure what all the buttons were for, some icons meant nothing to me,. I think I've finally figured them all out, still not sure what the bookmark(?) button does/is for though... :) Also frustrating the the small round button with a TV on it jumps you to RUclips TV, and no way I've found of changing what they do, ditto for other bottom buttons, Netflix, etc. Rather than opening the box up and clipping the bottoms of the buttons, I expect I'll finally just remove the whole button, and put something over the holes to keep dust out. I often hit the Netflix button when trying to go forward or back in something playing. Lastly, I DO wish they'd include play/paust button as well as fast forward and back buttons, lots easier/more intuitive than clicking the "OK" button, then clicking it again to pause. And having to go down/over to jump ahead 10 seconds or back. Thanks for listening to my rant, again fantastic video, super info and super well explained, unlike many other tutorial videos.
I tried to add the same brand USB stick to my Onn TV streaming device. I added a 32GB USB stick. I can see it in the "storage" settings. But I can not get apps to move there. I have uninstalled the apps, then downloaded again to kove them to the USB stick. But they do not? Is there a way of moving a app from internal storage, to the USB storage? Thanks!
This is great! *QUESTION*. Is this only useful for moving apps to the adoptable storage? I want to use the extra memory to store downloaded files, movies, photos, etc. How do I copy these to the adoptable storage vs how they are currently default downloaded to internal storage?
Hello Guy, yes you can definitely do that. Just don't expand internal storage. Install Xplore File Manager from app store and you will see your USB drive with that.

I bought this onn box and the same exact usb drive you describe and it will not recognize this brand new drive nor any other drive I’ve tried. I followed the instructions exactly. Why won’t it see my drive?
I had this same problem, and hopefully my solution can help you and others. What I noticed is that my usb drive (which normally blinks when in use) was not lighting up or blinking. In my case, I was using my TV USB port to power my ONN. It wasn't giving enough power to run anything other than the ONN Box. When I unplugged and switched to the factory power adapter, my USB drive lit up and was now recognized. Am now running a 128GB storage on this cheap TV box. Thank you to the OP for this video, and I hope my resolution is able to help others

I added the downloader on mine and the round cursor goes so fast and not slow enough to use it. it goes from top to bottom with just the lightest touch on the control. does anyone know how to fix this?
Picked up two of these yesterday and ordered the two OTG cables from your links. I set one box up yesterday and it works amazingly well. The cables came today and I’m trying to do this hack. The first cable I tried must have been DOA. it didn’t do anything. Second one I tried found and formatted the Sandisk cruiser 32g drive but wouldn’t move the files/data over. Nothing I’ve tried will make this work. I’ve tried three different working Sandisk drives but no luck. Any ideas? Thanks!
That USB debugging thing doesn't happen on the Chromecast but it doesn't allow me to look at the USB drive files or migrate. I wish they would make it easier to expand the storage on these things , they barely come with memory......... It's not fair. If your savy enough , you could figure out how to change the adb commands to force it to recognize external USB drive.........
Having same issue I am with my firestick. I have to keep uninstalling and reinstalling tvmob for it to work. Also unlinked doesn't work right with the onn box.
Does anyone knows if the imou cameras app works on this tv box? I was thinking on getning one and it would be awesome to be able to view my cameras on it but cant find anyone that had tested
Honest question. What's the point of adding external storage if you don't move Kodi etc on to it and you can't move Netflix etc on to it? I just deleted the other apps like prime 🤷
I'd think you should be able to do it the same as with the Fire Stick. Once the OTG cable is connected, instead of plugging the USB drive into the cable, plug in a USB ethernet adapter with USB hub. Then you can use the hub to plug in the USB drive and also use it for other external USB devices like a Bluetooth mouse/keyboard or such.

I hooked up my new ONN to a Ugreen USB 3.0 Hub Ethernet Adapter and added a 128 GB flash drive. The ONN did not recognize the flash drive. Tried another drive with the same results. Analiti shows it running on Ethernet with VPN, so Ethernet part of hub works. I may have a bad hub. I hope someone else tries it and gets it to work so I know which way to go...new hub or resort to an OTG cable and WIFI.

But I got it to work, this is what I did, but if you're going to use Wi-Fi you probably don't need to turn off Wi-Fi. Turn off wifi. Get into developer options and scroll down to "select USB configuration" switch it from "charging" to RNDS (USB Ethernet) go back hit restart. When it powered back on with my OTG dongle connected with my USB 3 splitter with Ethernet I now I had an ethernet connection and my USB keyboard also worked. It is now perfect. There are a couple different USB settings you can play with but after I did another restart powered it back up, it switched itself back to charging in developer options but my USB dongles are working just fine and with Ethernet. I tried several including a ugreen.
Good day I tried this steps on Xiaomi tv stick, the USB didn't appear. Can you assist if it's possible for the mentioned tv stick to add storage with USB.
ive bought like 4 of these babies,one of them started crapping out on me with a network temporary disabled message,and unable to connect it to wifi. Once in a while itll connnect to wifi for a good 40 minutes,and then crap out again with the same message. Any suggestions would be appreciated
Thank you for all your wonderful tech videos over the years! I followed the instructions on your older "supercharged" video for the original $19 onn box and got it working exactly as you showed. That was the one where you had to type all them commands. I found the storage on that to be pretty unusable as far as running apps on it, just way too slow and laggy. Is the performance any better on this one compared to that? I know you kinda answered that in the video. I really don't see the point in expansion for the use of apps if you can't really use them. Great for adding your own music and videos! Thanks again!
Hi Dan, glad the last one worked for you! No, the storage isn't any better and I really don't advise doing this. Not sure why people need so many apps on their device anyway. I commonly use 5 apps and that is all I need to get everything.

Fantastic Information but I still have a problem. I was able to add the storage on my own the other day. Everything looked fine, but I woke up the next morning to find that all of the sudden my flash drive was not connected and it was no longer flashing(the flash drive 3.0 has a light on it that flashes when in use) I read your instructions and tried to repeat the steps, but the device says USB Not Connected. I did what you said which was to turn off the USB debugging and then restart, but even after the restart it still read USB not connected. It’s possible I did something that might’ve affected all of this. I had downloaded the “K“ app and a few other apps directly to the device. After I added the external storage flash drive, I was able to move those apps to the flash drive. They seem to work OK over the next 12 hours and checking apps it recognized them as being on the flash drive. When I woke up this morning, I noticed that the apps were gone, and the flash drive was listed as not connected . After fiddling around with it a bit, I decided to go ahead and download those apps again expecting them to go to the device since it was not recognizing the flash drive as connected. I got messages for those four apps of “update” and not “download”. It now shows all the apps that I had download previously that I had moved to the flash drive were now back on the device. Any thoughts???? Thanks!
Kinda late. Just saw your video. If you go to device preferences, storage and click to clear cache, when it says okay, click quickly 3 times. It will clear the majority of the cache. Someone else may have already posted that.

Running x-plore file manager external storage not showing up I have tried several file managers the external storage is not available any ideas it does work as I can move files from my onn nix to the USB but it won't show up in file managers as I want to record from tivimate to the USB drive

Hi Lawrence, yes you can simply install a USB drive and not go through with Formatting as Internal Storage. When you connect a USB drive, you can use it for file storage, etc.

I turned on something on my Onn 4K box and now I get nothing but a black screen. I've tried to reset it but nothing works. I can't get the settings up to get a factory reset. How can I reset it?
I have a junk 32 gig drive I can get to work, but a 3.0 128 gig won't. It doesn't even see it. I went and did a quick format using utility not Rufus, but it only showed up to 64 gig sectors. Any ideas? Should I try Rufus?
I appreciate the video and set up guide. I was curious about how you mention to not enable usb debugging as it will not show the external files on reboot. I am a big fan of TDUK cache cleaner, which uses adb command to clear caches fully. This requires usb debugging enables. Would this render the application useless or do I have to reboot multiple times to show storage after using application?
I have a question, does anyone know what the USB throughput speed specs are on the ONN USB port? It may prove beneficial to use a higher speed drive for speeds just about as equivalent to the internal storage. I have some ideas…
Micro USB connectors only transfer data at up to 480 Mbps (megabits per second), or up to 5 Gbps if the cable supports USB 3.0. That's honestly plenty fast enough for streaming and transferring files with the Onn box.

So does anyone know how to download and save movies to the usb thumb drive. I can tell ya it ain't like doing it on the firestick, with ADB shell and Total commander. I can download movies from the crew add on in Kodi and it goes to MX player Pro, but when i go to TC it shows up on the internal storage and there is no place to copy and past it to the usb. And ADB shell isn't recognized on the ONN Bummer. Is there a process to download on ONN?
I have one of these and I'm not happy. I have RUclips TV and it will shut the app down and go back to home after about 2 mins. This doesn't happen on any of my Fire Sticks or Rokus only this box. It needs more work.
I installed a third party app today with downloader. I can not for the life of me figure out how to find the icon to pin it to the home page. Can you help? I set up both the tv and sound bar to work with the remote, but it will only turn one on and off 😮. It will not operate them simultaneously. Am I missing something? How is the device different from the chromecast with google tv? I bought the chromecast a while back hoping to use it for browsing with a keyboard and mouse. I found the different web browser choices to be very awkward and slow that I gave up on it.. What other applications are useful on google tv that I can't have on other devices? I already have a roku, firesticks and the chromecast with google tv.
Yes but keep in mind that you can still enable it and everything will work as it should. Just don't power off the device. Once it reboots, the USB will not show unless you turn off USB Debugging and then restart device again.
@@troypoint I like to configure my ONN boxes (old model) with the extended storage BUT autoload a custom launcher. Asking clients (who are not tech savvy to trun on this option wouldn't work. No way (like on the old android TV Box) to code it to recognize the additional storage?
Hello @cuecunerd OK, I just tried Wolf Launcher along with Launcher Manager and here's what I did. I installed both Wolf and Launcher Manager then I went in and enabled USB Debugging. Then, I set Wolf Launcher as default in Launcher Manager. Once I had Wolf set, I went back into Dev options and turned off USB Debugging, restarted device and everything works as it should. So, long story short...if you need USB Debugging, turn it on, make your changes, then turn it off.

@@cuecunerd2499 You are very welcome. It appears to be working properly this way for me and I haven't seen any problems not having Debugging on after making the changes. Before you order a bunch of these, I would suggest testing all of this on one yourself. I love this new box!
Sir i like your videos and in this video i did same as you said in my mi box s 4k i extend memory but one thing is bad when i install app from google play or aptoide it install in usb memory but when i open it can not open. Does it go the distance? I tried that same thing on the older model. It was cool but after a little while the drive got corrupted and lost everything that was on the drive. A bad experience cause I lost precious saved game data.
I haven't had good luck using those OTG cables, I get random reboots. This happens when plugged into the wall for power, not USB ports on the TV. It's almost like the stick stops getting enough power. Is there a hard-limit on storage size? I see there's a battery backup that you can put in-line w/ the OTG cable, but it's more expensive than this box and wondering if necessary. I'm surprised I don't see this brought up more often, with so many talking about expanding storage.
Seems to me, the smaller the USB storage, the better luck. I wouldn't recommend using anything over 64GB. I've been testing 64GB and no problems at all with this one.
I couldn't run Teamviewer QS & Host on T95 Max Allwinner H618 box with Android 11. Could you or are you able to install and run Teamviewer on that ONN box? I have an old Nexbox 7.1 Android box with S905x Amlogic CPU, but it's slow. I just wanted to know if boxes with other CPU's will run Teamviewer QS or Host. I don't care if it's running version 9, 10, or 11 Android. Thanks!

I have uninstalled the apps, then downloaded again to kove them to the USB stick. But they do not? Is there a way of moving a app from internal storage, to the USB storage? Thanks!

Hello Guy, yes you can definitely do that. Just don't expand internal storage. Install Xplore File Manager from app store and you will see your USB drive with that.

I had this same problem, and hopefully my solution can help you and others. What I noticed is that my usb drive (which normally blinks when in use) was not lighting up or blinking.
In my case, I was using my TV USB port to power my ONN. It wasn't giving enough power to run anything other than the ONN Box. When I unplugged and switched to the factory power adapter, my USB drive lit up and was now recognized.
Am now running a 128GB storage on this cheap TV box. Thank you to the OP for this video, and I hope my resolution is able to help others
This is exactly what happens with Firestick. It wint update on tv usb. You need the adapter.

I added the downloader on mine and the round cursor goes so fast and not slow enough to use it. it goes from top to bottom with just the lightest touch on the control. does anyone know how to fix this?
Picked up two of these yesterday and ordered the two OTG cables from your links. I set one box up yesterday and it works amazingly well. The cables came today and I’m trying to do this hack. The first cable I tried must have been DOA. it didn’t do anything. Second one I tried found and formatted the Sandisk cruiser 32g drive but wouldn’t move the files/data over. Nothing I’ve tried will make this work. I’ve tried three different working Sandisk drives but no luck. Any ideas? Thanks!

That USB debugging thing doesn't happen on the Chromecast but it doesn't allow me to look at the USB drive files or migrate. I wish they would make it easier to expand the storage on these things , they barely come with memory......... It's not fair. If your savy enough , you could figure out how to change the adb commands to force it to recognize external USB drive.........
Having same issue I am with my firestick. I have to keep uninstalling and reinstalling tvmob for it to work. Also unlinked doesn't work right with the onn box.

Honest question. What's the point of adding external storage if you don't move Kodi etc on to it and you can't move Netflix etc on to it? I just deleted the other apps like prime 🤷

I'd think you should be able to do it the same as with the Fire Stick. Once the OTG cable is connected, instead of plugging the USB drive into the cable, plug in a USB ethernet adapter with USB hub. Then you can use the hub to plug in the USB drive and also use it for other external USB devices like a Bluetooth mouse/keyboard or such.

I hooked up my new ONN to a Ugreen USB 3.0 Hub Ethernet Adapter and added a 128 GB flash drive. The ONN did not recognize the flash drive.
Tried another drive with the same results. Analiti shows it running on Ethernet with VPN, so Ethernet part of hub works. I may have a bad hub. I hope someone else tries it and gets it to work so I know which way to go...new hub or resort to an OTG cable and WIFI.

@@robertmcdowell9750 It took me a minute to figure out how get a USB 3 splitter with Ethernet dongle and Ethernet working. But I got it to work, this is what I did, but if you're going to use Wi-Fi you probably don't need to turn off Wi-Fi. Turn off wifi. Get into developer options and scroll down to "select USB configuration" switch it from "charging" to RNDS (USB Ethernet) go back hit restart. When it powered back on with my OTG dongle connected with my USB 3 splitter with Ethernet I now I had an ethernet connection and my USB keyboard also worked. It is now perfect. There are a couple different USB settings you can play with but after I did another restart powered it back up, it switched itself back to charging in developer options but my USB dongles are working just fine and with Ethernet. I tried several including a ugreen.
Does the usb drive have to be formatted to fat 32 so I can't download files over 4gb?

ive bought like 4 of these babies,one of them started crapping out on me with a network temporary disabled message,and unable to connect it to wifi. Once in a while itll connnect to wifi for a good 40 minutes,and then crap out again with the same message. Any suggestions would be appreciated
From personal experience, some brand USB drives are funky, try using another brand.

Thank you for all your wonderful tech videos over the years! I followed the instructions on your older "supercharged" video for the original $19 onn box and got it working exactly as you showed. That was the one where you had to type all them commands. I found the storage on that to be pretty unusable as far as running apps on it, just way too slow and laggy. Is the performance any better on this one compared to that? I know you kinda answered that in the video. I really don't see the point in expansion for the use of apps if you can't really use them. Great for adding your own music and videos! Thanks again!
Hi Dan, glad the last one worked for you! No, the storage isn't any better and I really don't advise doing this. Not sure why people need so many apps on their device anyway. I commonly use 5 apps and that is all I need to get everything.

Fantastic Information but I still have a problem. I was able to add the storage on my own the other day. Everything looked fine, but I woke up the next morning to find that all of the sudden my flash drive was not connected and it was no longer flashing(the flash drive 3.0 has a light on it that flashes when in use) I read your instructions and tried to repeat the steps, but the device says USB Not Connected.
I did what you said which was to turn off the USB debugging and then restart, but even after the restart it still read USB not connected.
It’s possible I did something that might’ve affected all of this.
I had downloaded the “K“ app and a few other apps directly to the device. After I added the external storage flash drive, I was able to move those apps to the flash drive. They seem to work OK over the next 12 hours and checking apps it recognized them
as being on the flash drive. When I woke up this morning, I noticed that the apps were gone, and the flash drive was listed as not connected . After fiddling around with it a bit, I decided to go ahead and download those apps again expecting them to go to the device since it was not recognizing the flash drive as connected. I got messages for those four apps of “update” and not “download”. It now shows all the apps that I had download previously that I had moved to the flash drive were now back on the device.

If you go to device preferences, storage and click to clear cache, when it says okay, click quickly 3 times. It will clear the majority of the cache.

Running x-plore file manager external storage not showing up I have tried several file managers the external storage is not available any ideas it does work as I can move files from my onn nix to the USB but it won't show up in file managers as I want to record from tivimate to the USB drive

Hi Lawrence, yes you can simply install a USB drive and not go through with Formatting as Internal Storage. When you connect a USB drive, you can use it for file storage, etc.

I have a junk 32 gig drive I can get to work, but a 3.0 128 gig won't. It doesn't even see it. I went and did a quick format using utility not Rufus, but it only showed up to 64 gig sectors. Any ideas? Should I try Rufus?
I appreciate the video and set up guide. I was curious about how you mention to not enable usb debugging as it will not show the external files on reboot. I am a big fan of TDUK cache cleaner, which uses adb command to clear caches fully. This requires usb debugging enables. Micro USB connectors only transfer data at up to 480 Mbps (megabits per second), or up to 5 Gbps if the cable supports USB 3.0. That's honestly plenty fast enough for streaming and transferring files with the Onn box.

With the OTG dongle, USB Ethernet hub and some adjustments in USB settings in developer options I was able to.
The people who designed the Onn box for walmart set the micro USB port to charge only. But I got it working, this is what I did. Turn off wifi. So does anyone know how to download and save movies to the usb thumb drive. I can tell ya it ain't like doing it on the firestick, with ADB shell and Total commander. I can download movies from the crew add on in Kodi and it goes to MX player Pro, but when i go to TC it shows up on the internal storage and there is no place to copy and past it to the usb. And ADB shell isn't recognized on the ONN Bummer. Is there a process to download on ONN?

I have one of these and I'm not happy. I have RUclips TV and it will shut the app down and go back to home after about 2 mins. This doesn't happen on any of my Fire Sticks or Rokus only this box. It needs more work.

Yes but keep in mind that you can still enable it and everything will work as it should. Just don't power off the device. Once it reboots, the USB will not show unless you turn off USB Debugging and then restart device again.
@@troypoint I like to configure my ONN boxes (old model) with the extended storage BUT autoload a custom launcher. Asking clients (who are not tech savvy to trun on this option wouldn't work. No way (like on the old android TV Box) to code it to recognize the additional storage?
Hello @cuecunerd OK, I just tried Wolf Launcher along with Launcher Manager and here's what I did. I installed both Wolf and Launcher Manager then I went in and enabled USB Debugging. Then, I set Wolf Launcher as default in Launcher Manager. Once I had Wolf set, I went back into Dev options and turned off USB Debugging, restarted device and everything works as it should. So, long story short...if you need USB Debugging, turn it on, make your changes, then turn it off.

I haven't had good luck using those OTG cables, I get random reboots. This happens when plugged into the wall for power, not USB ports on the TV. It's almost like the stick stops getting enough power. Is there a hard-limit on storage size? I see there's a battery backup that you can put in-line w/ the OTG cable, but it's more expensive than this box and wondering if necessary. I'm surprised I don't see this brought up more often, with so many talking about expanding storage.
Seems to me, the smaller the USB storage, the better luck. I wouldn't recommend using anything over 64GB. I've been testing 64GB and no problems at all with this one.
