I love Timmy C's tone, just sounds as aggressive as if he was using a pick, but ist actually playing with his fingers (or according to some interviews mostly with just one finger)
Hey, just want to offer a bit of insight on that last bit about the one finger thing. Using one finger is great technique to use in a lot of circumstances as a compliment to typical two finger playing. It's very similar to a guitarists using all downstrokes instead of alternate strumming. If you look at your fingertips you'll notice that your index finger has a thin, pointed profiles compared to your middle finger, which is much more rounded off. That, in addition to the slightly different length, means that often they will sound a noticeably, but not a great deal, different when plucking a string. It's not a huge difference, but when you're trying to play something that is very prominent and very aggressive, consistency is really important. Playing with one finger makes for very consistent and powerful playing. I'd recommend looking at tracks recorded by Motown session bassist James Jamerson. He was famous for his one finger playing style that he called "the hook." he grooves like hell. TL;DR, using one finger means the notes sound equal in volume and attack. Some jazz guys hate it, but one's that don't see why this is a good technique are just snobs. blah blah blah.
@@-_-_m also if you use one finger in parts for the harder attack, over time it will obviously become more calloused, further making it a useful dynamic tool. my index finger is notably tougher than my middle and creates a different sound - a fast line its really not all that noticeable but something like a RATM groove, very noticeable
