Nah man, try Uprising using the same gauge strings Chris uses... epic blisters in both picking fingers and your little finger on your fretting hand for weeks!
Chris is a really fantastic bassist, Muse wouldn't be what it is today without him. In fact all members of the band are essential, I couldn't be able to remove someone from the band without losing the essence of Muse.
It's nice to find a video where you can actually hear the bass by itself. Every other "bass cover" video is all guitar and drums and can barely hear the bass.
One thing i will say when learning this song is that the louder you play it the easier it is to play. If you have the volume turned down then you'r obviously going have to pluck harder and pressing the strings harder to create a more hard hitting distinct tone. This puts more strain on your muscles etc the harder it is to play. I end up turning the volume up and it becomes so much easier to play. Good hand warm up also help alot too
MegaFloobs not on my bass, but I've got my bridge/saddle dropped almost all the way down so i can pluck/tap easily(carpel-tunnel got my hands weak) so basically all the lines I play have that tasty fret-bust.
A lower action will allow you to play faster and softer but you compromise tone doing that. If you enjoy the fret buzz then each to their own but it can interfere if you start to add distortion into the mix; Loosing note definition
Chris once jokingly said "I hate playing Hysteria. It hurts" haha! Other than his incredible stamina, Chris' incredible sound really made me fell in love with Muse. Incredible Wolstenbeast!
+Bin Pro It's one amp with a Human Gear Animato, one with a Big Muff, and another with a clean signal. There's also a synthesizer doubling it (you can hear it drop out during some of the slides).
+LamarKafka To be exact, it's Animato and Muff blended from one amp, clean channel on one, a synth and subtle octave on the synth in some parts :) Nearly impossible to copy unless you have decent studio gear :P
You can get pretty damn close with software like Guitar Rig, and a DAW like Cubase. Takes a lot of fiddling to get right, but it's the best you can get without the hardware! If you're handy with synths and MIDI you can also program in the synth part, which makes it sound SERIOUSLY close when you play along with it.
As a 3 year bass player this is my worst nightmare, yet at the same time one of my favourite songs ever. Is this some weird kind of Stockholm syndrome?
nevermind..i got it..I play by ear so it was easy for me but still for those of you who want to know...just go to E note on the A string which is, if im right, seventh fret..but dont press the string but just touch it as for pinch harmonics or muting..and just pluck it and then slide it away...too easy...although I'm not sure it will work without an overdrive
Marijan Barać Without trying to be offensive, I need to know, how do you play bass without knowing the 7th fret (in standard tuning) on each string is an octave up of the open string above?
xX_TheRealGaben_Xx ..i know where the tones, octaves etc. are but im a visual guy..and since i dont learn by tabs i never really count frets ..no one taught me seventh fret is an octave..i got it bymyself while playing but never really cared what fret is that..whats the big deal man..people these days just need to be taunting for every little mistake one makes..geez..it wasnt really a mistake either
Basically Three Basses : First centered, clean with an octaver (octave down) Second one, slightly panned to the left, with synth pedal Last one, slightly panned to the right, with fuzz (prob big muff + darkglass blend)
It’s entirely possible. One studio trick is getting the initial take, copying it in pro tools, then adding fuzz effects while completely removing any treble frequencies. If you blend it right in the mix, it sounds like one fluid track.
Simon Rivas maybe its too late now, but something I do to make this chorus easier to play its to slap it, of course without any funky touch, so you can play the chorus on the tempo without sweat
i think its because its a song that beginners try to play. i know that when i started out there's no way id be able to play this but really if you have the endurance its super easy. i know that i can rip through this like its nothing now

Well i'm sure you do.I also find this really easy to play but still from what i've read from video comments the majority of people find it difficult to play
