So my ex step dad's new wife seen your videos and said "I seen this RUclipsr called the crazy lamp lady and she reminds me of you" compliment accepted! I said "she's the reason I started reselling!" She said "NO WAY!' .. YES WAY THANK YOU JOCELYN FOR YOUR INSPIRATION!! LOVE YOU BIG! 💛Nicole
I was already a borderline hoarder...then I started watching your videos....now I have soooooo much stuff to sell, but I have not yet listed anything. I WILL list 20 items by the end of the week. I WILL, I WILL, I WILL.
Let me know when you do, Karen, I'm very excited for you! You're right, both of these ladies are an inspiration...You go girl !
I put the “PRO” in procrastinate!
Dear Karen, I always put stuff in categories -- 1) Stuff I love, not ready to let go of yet, 2) stuff I'm not sure what I want to do with it, 3) stuff to donate (to let go quickly), 4) and stuff to definitely toss -- like paperwork you don't need.
If you have any doubts about what to do with something, literally sleep on the decision overnight. Your head will be clear in the morning, and you'll make a decision(s) really fast. Also, as you get into a rhythm of clearing, you'll get more done.
I don't know if you're into affirmations or meditations, but praise yourself for facing the clutter. Remember, you may have to keep at this for the rest of your life...what are you trying to fill in your life?
Give thanks for all the stuff you have -- and that you can donate or sell!
Give praise to yourself for making room for more joy in your life.
Be patient and gentle with yourself for being willing to face "the stuff." Remember, it's okay to keep what you love or aren't ready to let go of yet.
Just do a small area at a time -- like a drawer, corner of a room, closet area, or whatever. Trust your intuition about where to begin. Put on nice music while you work. Pace yourself. Applaud yourself. Maybe limit your time to 15 minutes or 1/2 hour so you don't feel overwhelmed. You are not in a race. Take your time, and APPLAUD yourself as you lighten up!
Best wishes on your journey, Dianna
Dianna Diatz - yup we all have some sort of ROD (Room Of Doom) we have to face!
I'm just the opposite, I've always been a minimalist...I think I have less than 20 pieces of any sort of knick knacks...it's hard for me to keep things that don't have a use...that being said, my minimal mind gets confused with my love of garage sales and Goodwill runs😁. I love these ladies!
My daughter and I go to Goodwill after we look over all the “treasures “ we find a “quite” spot and reevaluate our finds to buy or not to buy ,then I put things back on shelves we don’t want and my daughter pays for our stuff ! We go get hamburgers and fries and milkshakes ! That’s our Mom And Daughter Day at Goodwill or Ross
Awe, I do the same with my girls. Although its getting a bit expensive and I think theyre turning into future hoarders😜
I work at a high end ladies apparel store, and we have to show our bags every time we leave the store. They have even talked about having us remove our outerwear to have it checked. I told them when they start that, I quit!
Today I told a friend how much I enjoy watching your thrift videos.....got a blanc stare, lol. Suppose when you love thrifting yourself you can understand the joy it brings.
Ha! Yes! I don't have many friends that would appreciate binge-watching these videos like I do. I've learned so much!
Same here, I have no one who relates to my obsession. Lol Their loss.
@@dianechaniewski293 Great to know I'm not the only one Diane!
@@portuguesehydrangea4818 Well Lis, at least there are now three of us, Diane, you and me. LOL.
I love it when Sue looks over your finds 😁
The photo of the baby .... those are great to find for artists and art students! A very low cost canvas for your next painting / project.
Sometimes people lose their homes and are put out and someone comes along and does a clean out and donates their thing they may not have given their child’s picture away it was a product of circumstance. Sad
Or a storage unit that they lost possession of.
Yep, my mother was put into a nursing home illegally by the state of SC. We had to just try to get some things from her storage unit since we couldn't afford it. My baby pictures from 1964 we're in there ☹️
Was at GoodWill and here's a beautiful large framed oil painting of a little boy 1960s' ish. It must have expensive to have had done.....and of course the parents never imagined it would end up at GoodWill. Really made you think about life.....I felt sad.
We've been to storage auctions and I have a firm policy of packing up family photos, important papers like birth certificates and marriage licenses to return to them. Those are things that should be returned.
Love ur outfit Sue looks great on u
Beth Collins yes!!
I was going to say the same thing Sue looks really nice in that outfit.
Was just thinking that! love it
I agree. Loved the royal blue.
When you picked up the set of chickens, I cheered for you!
LOL - as she says, “You’re chipped. Nope.” Puts back on the shelf and says, “See you at the bins soon.” LOL
I love Sue's passion for teaching moments, and the dialogue you guys have is awesome! Thank you ladies for your positive attitudes, it brought a smile to my face today!
Every retail job ive ever had ive had to either have a clear purse, or show my purse and coat and pockets. Statistically, internal shrinkage is the number one source of theft in any company.
Mystical Moonstone I guess because I never worked in retail, this was just surprising for me. Granted, I’m way too trusting a person in general.
@@CrazyLampLady a few of our local distribution centers look like your walking into the gates for a prison. They are required to have all of their personal items checked on the way in and on the way out due to illegal substances along with theft. They also get drug screenings done often.
@@changedforgood5761 You should see the Amazon warehouse facilities. Not even personal items allowed in working areas and it does look and feel like prison.
I would LOVE to see your personal carnival glass collection & find out your favorite maker, patterns, colors, etc. Some beautiful stuff out there!!
Omg the chair that grandma and grandpa are sitting in we’re the same ones that I had for my barbies in the 70s. My mom passed them down to me so she probably had them in the late 50s. She had a whole living and dining set.
I love going thrifting with ya...feel like I'm walking down the aisles looking at al the all the stuff!! 😊 Thanks as always for these tours, so fun!!
I totally agree on how sad it is to see donated photos. Usually in frames. The only exception is seeing piles of old photos in antique shops, but they are 100 years old so I think that's fair enough. No excuse for modern photos!
Well, on that print canvas would be useful to paint over maybe lol!
Sometimes those are prints from a store and not actually someone throwing out their baby’s picture
You go Sue! Help Jocelyn out! I have a wonderful friend like you that I can depend on for laughs and support and I appreciate her so much! Thank you for the fantastic videos! 💕
5:18 That rocking horse was awesome. Great for nursery decor. 🐴
I thought it would make a cute decoration too!! A cute little quilted pony!
I do no understand how anyone can call it "theft," when you peel back a tag. Now if you completely remove the tag and not replace it back then that is different. In most thrift facilities if it doesn't have a price, it can not be sold. Great video- Love you and Sue!!
@@JD-Defenders At least they stopped with the marker and charcoal stick. I worked for them many years ago and I hated that we had to mark each items with them.
And I’ll say it again, we all need a Sue! Lol Love your channel :)
I agree !!
Take a pic of marks or other small print with your phone and you can zoom in:)
Kelly Merritt Or get a jewelers loop. Works great.
Smart!
I worked at a fabric store in the 90's and we had to have clear purses/bags. A previous employee had stolen $10k worth of merchandise over time.
There’s so much good stuff in that store. I have thrift store envy. Love restaurant ware, it’s so durable!
I love watching you two. Sue looks so beautiful in her blue outfit. I love it.
Lesson on if you can’t read something up close: take a picture and then make it bigger. It always works for me.
Hi there Jocelyn, i would love the pair of roosters, but sadly i am from Australia. I have recently beat breast cancer, and been really, when i saw the roosters it was love at first sight. I am so aad i will never meet them. Love your vlog, it got me through some sad times xx
Hi there. I'm from North Carolina. I'm currently battling stage 4 cancer and these videos help distract me from the pain, as well as teach me lots of stuff! I hope you're cancer free now!
peachycleanhouse ...prayers sent 🙏🏻💕
peachycleanhouse I'm from NC too. I hope you get better real fast. Big hug.
"this lamp weighs a ton..." takes from bottom shelf and puts on top shelf... :)
9:20. That yellow caged “lamp” is an old suntanning lamp. I used to prop myself up on my elbows on top of my bed and tan my face away! Yikes. 😬. Also, I once knew an employee who ripped stuff off, in his backpack every week he worked, at a music store. Thousands of dollars over time. It happens. And it only takes one bad apple to make those rules necessary for all, unfortunately. 😣
Yes unfortunately sometimes an employee is the worst criminal. Yes Walmart does require employees bags to be searched.
D MS If you were aware of his theft, why didn’t you report it. It was the Ishtar thing to do.
I found a chalkwear clock at the thrift store, it was a clock with owls on each side. It was so damaged that I wanted to cry. I left it.
Melissa Southard look at Sue's channel. She fixed up some chalkware.
Sue, you look beautiful. You should wear that color more often. Just gorgeous
The two of you together, priceless.
When I worked retail in college I used to have my bag checked when leaving work. And that was back in the 80s - I had totally forgotten about that awful practice.
Why would anyone dislike your vid? smh Great vids girls, I'm learning a lot and enjoy watching you all find treasures.
jealousy...because they are so successful.
There are some maladjusted souls out there who would dislike anything, so it's no surprise. Maybe they don't like Sue's awesome cat who rolls in the dirt. And in that case, they are hopeless and should lock themselves in their basements forever!
I thought the same thing. What’s not to like and if you didn’t enjoy it, move on to another channel 😬
@@Mollydogdesigns Exactly! Just don't watch it... these ladies work their tails off producing content for us to watch! I guess haters are gonna hate
Truth of the matter sadly you’re right about the haters.
You Girls amaze, amuse, and entertain me so much! Thank you for all of your bits of information too!! Happy hunting!!
I am a crocheter and $5.50 for that afghan makes me sad, so much work in those.
Maybe the donater loved it but had no room or changed their colour scheme etc I had a gorgeous pink throw blanket that was knitted for me by a work friend's friend lol! This knitter was retired and bored so asked for my friend to find interested receivers. I'd had the throw blanket for quite some years but never used it really. I love fleecy blankets...no drafts 😆. Anyway I recently decluttered my whole house, the garage next, and donated the blanket. I really hope it was found by someone who'll love it and use it! Just telling this story so you don't feel awful for the knitter/crocheter.
When I worked at Joann Fabrics I had to open my purse. Years ago I worked at a grocery store that all female employees had to carry a clear purse. I asked management why men didn’t have to clear pants. So they started making male employees pull their pocket linings out. 🙄 Oh yeah...can’t make this stuff up!
My niece worked for Sears for a very long time and they had to carry see through purses.
OMG!! I’m from Ravenswood, WV!! Those dishes are very desirable. The old pottery has been gone for years and years and more years.
I used to work at a Savers and it's standard to do bag checks on employees before they leave. It's for a good reason too as we did have a number of employees still try and steal things.
Yesterday was my day at GW and I hit the jackpot. I got a large blown art glass vase for $9.99. When I went to wash it, it still has the art gallery's original price sticker on it, which GW didn't remove. It was originally priced at $220.00 I was ecstatic! It hasn't a nick, scratch, or chip, and is gorgeous. YAY!!! By the way, I do talk to myself when I'm thrifting. I'll catch myself saying things out loud like, "Sue would love this Rose Medallion, or Jocelyn would just say walk away!" I don't even care if folks think I'm weird. I embraced my weirdness years ago. I also hum a tune when I shop, it helps override the stores lousy music. Loved the video. As always it was a joy to watch. We shall call this your, "Year of the Cat!" Have a great day girlfriends!
I need Sue in my life. She is always so positive and uplifting. I simply need her to move to Texas. 🥰
Consider taking a magnifying glass with you.
Karen Nennstiel I carry one in my purse because sometimes my glasses are still not enough lol
I keep a small magnifying glass in my purse. It helps!
I just carry magnifying glasses...I test them in the walmart to see how strong they are and what I can see. This way I am hands free and can just put them on to read and use those little attachments that go around your neck to keep them right on me.
Jewelry loupe
@@aprilanonymous7237 🙂
Just a quick suggestion, to protect your goodies from breaking, cut bubble wrap in 12 inch squares and as you place them in the cart layer the squares in between. Make a bag for thrifting, the squares, a magnifying glass, tape measure and wipes to remove "smuts".
Always carry in your purse: a jeweler's loupe, tiny scissors, and measuring tape.
I was at Walmart and as I was leaving was asked to check my receipt, I simply said no with a big smile and said Have a nice evening. The look I got --wow. Love the roosters! Good finds
Omgsh, I love Sues cat. I know I said this over on her channel but he looks just like my cat Bob! 😊
Sue: "Of COURSE I am" Love it!!
it feels much better when acumulate stuff that you really really love plus you save yourself a lot of money.
I seriously thought you were going to weigh YOURSELF right there but giggled when you weighed the LAMP!! 😂🤣👍🏼
You need a T-shirt that says I'm filming my vlog not talking to myself. I spotted Sue's cat and can't live without it :-)
I'm just like Sue. If I don't find great stuff right away, I start putting less-than-great stuff in my cart. But I try to be conscious of it and go back before checking out, putting things back on the shelf while I say to myself, "The shopping trip is the reward!"
I used to work for Dollar Tree & they checked our bags!!! Honestly, a dollar store. I felt so bad for the manager who was so nice but if he didn’t do it he would get in trouble from the higher ups. Ridiculous what the world ‘s come to🤷♀️
There is a free service here that spays and neuters feral cats. They "tip" the left ears of the cats so you can tell they have been neutered at a glance. Your chipped ear (tipped ear) cat was a neutered/spayed feral, but now it is your pet :) Another successful adoption story lol.
I love thrifting with you and Sue!
Every different type of retail that i've worked for over the last 45 years [& currently} bag checks
Employees are by far the #1 cause of theft. The cost of these losses are of course passed along to the consumer.
Julie Hayes my hubby works at a pharmaceutical company and they have to empty pockets open lunch boxes etc.
Jojo’s Junkin & Journey For sure! I think that it’s more common than not in many industries. Studies over the years always show that when they stop checking, the thefts increase fast & furious.
Sad but true.
Absolutely - I just responded the same way to another post.... but even when I worked at clothing stores at the mall they checked our bags (this was at least 20 years ago)!
I agree. I want my house decorated for Halloween all year round. I make apothecary jars and I want them out all year!!!.
"Just for the HEALTH of it "
I just recently found a nice feature on my apple 6 phone. under assessibility, there is a magnifier, it brings up the camera and lets you enlarge items without taking a photo.
If the ceramic cat has a chip and not marked as is. I would ask for a discount
I worked for a beauty supply store, as the manager. I was required to check employees bags before they left for the day..... theft by employees cost the company more than actual shoplifters.
Yes! Sue looks amazing in all the colors of the ocean! 😍
I worked at Sam's Club for almost 20 years. Employees had to open purses, lunch bags etc to the door checker before we were allowed to leave at my club's location. Very degrading. On a brighter note.. Love you, Sue and Andrew ! Best U Tube channel !
From baseballs to the cat....OMG! I replayed that moment way too many times! I'm laughing so hard!!!
Our Goodwill and other thrift stores offers community service opportunities, so possibly that was why the had the bag check requirement.
Worked at the Hudson Bay. We had to have the store bags stapled if we bought anything, and then when we left the store someone checked to make sure we weren't sneaking anything out the store. Love this video! Great work, ladies! Sue, I can't wait for your tutorial on making a trinket stand. I am so excited you're going to do this. Thank you!
If you hit somone with that heavy cup, would that be a mugging??
LOVE THE PUN!! Guess you have a "handle on the situation." lol
Lmfao!
Sue that blue outfit is beautiful on you!
🤪🤣🤣🤣
So, funny you should mention the situation with the Goodwill employee. I recently dropped some donations at a donation location and as I walked up there was a beautiful cabinet. So I jokingly said, "can I just buy this right now, you wont even have to take it to the store". The employee looked around and said "here, load it in your car, the cameras won't see". He wasn't kidding. I told him, no, I don't want u to lose your job. But he was actually going to do it! I dont think it was his first rodeo. It happens more often than we realize.
_mugs. baseballs. i wonder of any of them... _*_OH MY GOD!!_* ~spies *CAT* ~ 🤣🤣🤣
i laughed way too hard at that!
Love the big cat! even with the chipped ear, I would have rescued it too. I thought about working at Goodwill but changed my mind. Love sue's Cat!! :)
Love the Royal Copley chickens. I used to collect Royal Copley. This was a great Goodwill trip.
I just had to share that several years ago I worked for a Goodwill in their employment training division. So, while not employed in the resale department, I was privy to what was happening among employees. A tip was received from a store associate that the manager and assistant manager were picking all the donations and keeping all the good items for themselves. They then stole these items and were taking them to the flea market to sell. True story. They both lost their jobs, as they should have. So while having your bag checked like that is creepy, I know it came from stories like this one actually happening.
I think this happens at our gw store, prices are outragouesly high too.
we had to show our bags to a manager before leaving when I worked at h&m too
You are saving me so much money, I'm having fun and can just seat back and watch ! its old they probably acsidentlely through that picture in the box!
Hi Jocelyn! When my kids were high school age, I used restaurant china from Goodwill for everyday dishes. Teenagers are rough on dishes! I don't know if it is attitude or what, but I saw my nice dishes going to trash, so I fixed the problem. After the kids were grown and gone, I sold my restaurant china for profit. :)
Oh my gosh, I love everything. :D Especially the chickens. Also, at 5:11 - to the right of the little hair/wig thing, there were some whitish porcelain pieces with gold on them, it looked like. It looked like they were taped to a piece of cardboard. I wish I were there to take a closer look at them, they reminded me of these tall bird things (yay, birds!) that my grandma had on either end of her sofa. They were old.
It is so much fun with you guys! Thanks so much!!!
Lol, mug as a murder weapon. Keep the mugs away from Sue. JK! 😂
Sue your advice about being okay with leaving without buying anything is perfect! I recently had the same experience and thought as I put stuff back that I wasn’t in love with and then left store laughing at myself!!!!
Also Jocelyn, your rant about the employee purse checking was right on! Employees rise to the occasion if treated with respect! It’s obviously a practice that is degrading them!
Ps I love the two retro roosters and the Fenton bear and would be happy to buy them... I live in Alberta
Oh my god! My heart just skipped a beat or two!! Okay! If you EVER find a green version of the glass pitcher top left corner at 9.57 I will buy it in an instant! I found mine in a junk shop in New York over 10 years ago, I went into the store several times during the trip, looking at the pitcher and debating whether to get it or not but ended up buying it and returned home to Denmark, clutching it in my lap on the flight! It almost got taken away by the stewardesse. I loved it so much and I have great memories from that trip and from the many times it has been used. Unfortunately it succumbed to a careless (very temporary) housemate that threw it into a box so it cracked and then hid it from me and .I was very sad about it. So if you ever find it in green.. I would be so happy. I have not seen one in Denmark. Sorry for the long story. Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it in your video!
Yes , they have checked bags for a long time when i worked at Kmart and the old pick n save we would bring clear bags for our stuff and that was the early nineties.
I am binge watching you guys and you are delightful. It makes me crazy because you leave things that are so valuable on the racks. LOL Thank goodness I'm not there I don't need anymore. I love your friendship. On checking the bag.....really and they get everything donated. All of my Good Wills have closed due to the pandemic. They moved all the stock to their warehouse down town and let their employees go. I am so sad. My Good Will family is gone. Watching you guys is really helping. Love from LA>
Jocelyn and her reaction to the gray ceramic cat! Priceless!
And your goodwill always plays the best music!
Love you two! The first 30 seconds Sue had me laughing looking under the price tag! Be brave, break a rule or two in life!
Oh, my gosh, Sue's cat is GORGEOUS! Fun shopping trip. Looking forward to the haul video.
We have to have clear bags at my work and get checked out before we leave.
When sue talks it makes me so relax.
Great finds. Love the big cat. I love how Sue breaks the Goodwill laws. My little Gizmo (the kitten) is purring away and nudging (sign of affection) the phone. He really loves you 2 as much as he loves me. I am so happy I found yinz. You all brighten my day.
Love you gals together! I absolutely love Sues gorgeous blue outfit!
Such a good point Sue made! If you don't find anything of value to you it's better to leave empty handed that to accumulate junk. It took me awhile to learn that.
My husband works at Lowe’s and they check the employees purchases and bags when they leave. This is no surprise to me. Loving the pair of chickens you picked up. Will watch for the listings.
lol, Like talking to your camera is any better than talking to yourself.. You are amazing and I love watching you.
Sue is on point today with her outfit... Looking good Sue!
Sue, I love the royal blue outfit that you are wearing.
I've walked out of GW spending 53 cents before. I've never done that before...lol
Looking forward to the haul video. :D
It's common especially in retail stores. I work retail and have to do it. They do it because some people can't be trusted unfortunately.
I love to see you and Sue shop together, all the information you two have together is amazing! Please tell Sue I love her outfit, and that color blue is my favorite.
I had to laugh when you said "I should be looking on both sides..." because I go down then back up then I do it again in the opposite direction and always find something I missed. :)
What great finds! Wish our Goodwill was as good as yours!
I love your videos! The two of you are so much fun! I am a reseller myself who is learning more tips from you! Thanks for the fun videos daily!
Oo Joycelyn love the Briard stuff - have so much (it’s in a chest so it’s not hoarding) I won’t part with! Great finds, have a lovely day! Jet 🧡🎸🎶⚡️
