Really helpful tips, Becca! I am currently on the beginning of week to breast-feeding… And I have to admit I cried many times during the first two days. All of that said, it seems to be getting easier by the day. Good luck to all the mamas out there, trying to get their breast-feeding down! ❤ you’re not alone!
I nursed my daughter for just over 2 years (she’s 3 now). I’m pregnant with my second and due in April. I found this video super helpful as I prepare to nurse again in a few months. We too struggled with ties that needed revised (and went undiagnosed until 8 weeks) causing major pain for me. I remember so many times thinking and saying “this is not how breastfeeding is supposed to be”. I agree with you-I think we are led to believe nursing is this natural thing that comes easily. For many women I know, it is a major struggle the first few weeks/months! Thanks for all the info on what you’ve experienced and learned 😀
Definitely having someone like my midwives and LCs watch me breastfeed was the best thing for me! Still going at 20 months and I never ever would have thought we'd make it past the first month at the beginning.
Just had to comment that I referenced this video a dozen times during my pregnancy and it helped tremendously! Baby is now 10 weeks and we are going strong with zero bottles used once!
Loved this video Becca! I’d love to see a video just like this on sleep. How were the first two weeks of sleeping/tips you have. Also would love your advice on transitioning Hayden from the snoo to her crib and when/how you guys did that. Love your tips and advice on all things motherhood :)
So glad you loved it!! We used the takingcarababies newborn sleep class and pretty much followed that in the early days! It was SO helpful. As far as the SNOO, we transitioned her into her crib at night around 5-6 months..we put her in her crib for most daytime naps so she was really used to sleeping in there, so the transition wasn't bad at all!
This video was so encouraging to hear that you also do schedule feeding. I've always done schedule feeding and this time I thought about doing on demand feedings, but it doesn't work for me
It’s been very painful and hard to breastfeed my 8 day old baby. Cracking, bleeding painful nipples, 😣 Nobody prepared me for this! They warned me about labor pain, but not breastfeeding pain and latching challenges
I hope you are doing well! My little boy is due June 6th of this year and these videos have been so helpful as I want to breastfeed exclusively for at least a year! If you ever need to chat I know we don’t know each other but lmk I have a 17 yr old daughter and a almost 4 yr old daughter but definitely starting over! Always willing to share ideas again hope you are doing better and still on your breastfeeding journey ❤️
It's wonderful you can be honest that you're having problems I'm just blown out of the water I'm 72 years old right now and I'm a retired nurse and I have learned tremendously from watching these videos these new mamas have it made with all this information and resource material to go to I am so excited about this this is probably one of the best things the internet has given us is this open honest communication about situations thank you so much
@@kristynash3375 @Terry Savoy @Sarah conley hi Thank you ☺️ it’s been time from this comment, but again thank you! I eventually had to give my baby formula. I was stressing out so much at first, which I think it affected my milk production
So true, I have been reading every day in a mom group how they are scared of labor. I wrote in the group. Everybody is scared of labor but nobody of breastfeeding.
thank u so much for passing on all this info!!!! i’m a ftm - 38 weeks pregnant and have noooo idea what i’m getting myself into or what to expect 🤣 all i know is i want to breastfeed and succeed at doing so! this was so helpful for me 🤍🌷🌸
Where was this video two weeks ago? 😭 Just finished two weeks yesterday. Thankfully I did some of these tips and while my daughter and I are still learning this dance together, breast feeding has slowly but surely gotten easier. Btw I 100% agree that keeping her awake is by far most annoying/difficult thing ever.
I could only breastfeed my son (who’s now gonna be 4 in may) for 2 weeks bc I just couldn’t do it, I was bleeding constantly and just hated life tbh 😭 but now I’m pregnant with twins and I know I wanna give it a try even if I know with twins it’s gonna be more difficult! So hoping I can do this 😭
Do you breastfeed exclusively or do you pump and give bottles as well? I want to breastfeed exclusively but I gave up with my son and I’m worried I’ll give up with this one as well! 😫
Brand new mom here 😳 just want to say that YES mommas mean what they say when they say “breastfeeding is hard”. It’s wonderful but a learning curve and a challenge at first. Don’t be like me and scoff because then you’ll learn the hard way hahah.
I so wish I had seen this before I had my son this past February! I failed to keep him awake and wasn’t proactive enough to wake him up to feed. I almost couldn’t leave the hospital because he wasn’t producing a wet diaper. I also didn’t go on a feeding schedule when I got home :( Hoping to be successful with my daughter born next March!
Hi, this was interesting, in the UK we are encouraged to feed on demand and not even think about a schedule, never not for four hours, just shows how different the advice can be xx
I was taught to feed on demand as well as never go 2 hours without a feed. I had help from many lactation consultants as well. They always say do what feels right to you and baby. If you do well on a schedule that is perfectly fine. If you feed whenever baby wants thats great too! I was even encouraged to pump after baby feeds to encourage more milk production. Every bit of advice was helpful and it all works. So when I was a new mom it helped me to be confident.
I know this video was put out a while ago but I was wondering if when you were following this nursing schedule did you use a pacifier at night to help get longer stretches?
This makes sense. My baby was cluster feeding she wanted to feed all the time . She wanted to stay on and it caused my nipples to be cracked and bleed . I had to stop to let my nipples heal and use formula. I really really didn’t want to do that but I was exhausted .. I’m hoping to redo breastfeeding after my nipples heal and my milk comes in .. I been hand expressing just to keep my breast going ..
Put some breast milk on your nipples and use earth mama nipple butter you can get it on Amazon. Also get some collection shields that way your nipples can get air and heal quickly. My baby will be 3 weeks tomorrow that cluster feeding stage is a beast
almost 7 months in and i’m SO glad i didn’t quit! i really considered stopping in the beginning :( she still isn’t 100% some times especially when she’s cranky but she’s doing so well now most of the time
Thanks, I'm almost on my due date and it's nice to hear someone who thinks like me about schedules and practical stuff. I feel in my country anything that isn't feeding on demand is shamed and guiltied upon but I feel in my gut (and my brain) that it doesn't make sense for us.
Shiela Stayer I’m scared my supply won’t be the same either I’m 37 weeks preggo with my second! I’m sure you have heard of Fenugreek supplement but if not look into it ❤️❤️
I really want it to work for me this time. Baby 1 I didn't breastfeed I was 16 though so that probably had something to do about it. Baby 2 breastfed 6 weeks but I mixed formula and expressed alot and I didn't get a really good latch. Baby 3 about the same as above but with a latch and trying alot more. About 6 weeks I stopped because expressing with older kids and a newborn everything took twice as long.
This video makes me so sad. My baby is 5 weeks old, during the day eats every 1-2 hours and 4 times overnight. I breastfeed, pump in between, and our baby also has formula after feeds because I find it impossible to make enough milk and he tries to feed to the point where he starts to cry because he’s still hungry. I read the Jack Newman book. I saw 2 lactation consultants. It’s so hard and this video makes it sound like its so easy and great.
Right now almost 3 weeks in and this video is truthful and definitely what I experienced wow my milk came 2 days as well my babygirl had a 4 hour stretch too and hit back to her birth weight by day 7 🙌🏿🥰 God is so faithful ! I noticed she cluster feeds from 2am to 5am and I pump the most milk from 6am to 7:30am also HAAKA is phenomenal for my boobs
One week in... have cried all the 😭... this video came at the perfect time. I’m curious...if your baby wanted to feed again after 1hr did you restart the ‘2hr clock’ or just treat it as a ‘snack’ and keep on the original schedule? Thanks!!
You got this mama! The beginning is so rough! (In case she doesn't have a chance to respond, and just coming from a mom who's been there. Feel free to totally ignore :D I'd restart the 2hr clock after every feed with mine. Baby will let you know if she/he needs to eat sooner. 7-10 days old is a pretty common time for a newborn to be going through a growth spurt, could be eating more frequently to help your milk supply catch up to baby's new increased calorie needs.)
I just shared my story on breastfeeding and I'm loving this video too! It can be so hard those first two weeks and us mamas need ALL the encouragement we can get! Thank you for your always-informative and encouraging videos 🙂
Who dont want to* There is no reason to not breast feed. Majority of women just give up.. pain/working are not an excuse to not breast feed, I've watched lots of working women still breastfeed.
I'm far from ready to have a child, but I love you and your channel. By the way, I adore the lip color you're wearing. what are you wearing on your lips??
Thanks for the video! Having my first in July! Question...how do you know when your baby is at the “full feeding” level that you referenced a few times.
Currently almost one week into BFing my second daughter. With my first we went for ten months! You are so right that it takes work. Even though I’ve done this before I’m having to help this baby learn and it can still be a smidge painful at first.
Colostrum is automatically filled with many nutrients your baby needs. It's just how our bodies are predesigned. Baby's getting enough from your colostrum don't worry☺️ Their stomach's are also incredibly small.
I don't like babies , it would be easier when I have my baby to like them . I don't think their cute either.. is that really a requirement to care for your child? Cause the mere description of describing breast feeding makes me think bad things 😐 I wanted to start a family but when I got pregnant finally I'm not so sure about it anymore. I wish I liked babies - I really want to love this baby . The Bill's and stress just makes it worse and I can't talk to anyone because its expensive.
My first was a great feeder but my second was more difficult and I saw an IBCLC. They were SO helpful! Every baby is so different so don't feel like you can't get help as a second time mom. ♥️
