NO MORE LOW BREASTMILK SUPPLY! WOOT! After Breastfeeding did not go well with my first baby (there are many reasons why I couldn't breastfeed well with my first), I made some changes to my mental health and my approach to breastfeeding. Now with baby #2, I have not had issues with breastfeeding at all. I have good breastmilk supply, and my newborn has done well latching. This video goes over what I changed both physically and mentally. There's so much I wish I would have known about breastfeeding before the baby was born!
So, I have had one breastfeeding journey that was unsuccessful, and now I have successfully exclusively breastfed my for many months. The truth is, Breastfeeding has an impact on mental health whether it goes well or not! Hope you enjoy this video about the emotions that can be tied to breastfeeding, and

I had all the knowledge I needed from breastfeeding class and appointments with a lactation consultant, and I'm so glad I was able to effectively combine their info with my own instincts to have a good experience breastfeeding baby #2. See you next time with a BUDDY VIDEO! 🎉💥

I love this video Jen! At my last job I was an L&D nurse at a baby-friendly hospital. I heard this from a coworker one day and it really stuck with me since then: “breast is the physiologic norm, fed is the expectation”. Thank you for all that you do, Jen 😊

Listening to your experience with breastfeeding brought me back to the late 80s and 90s when i was breastfeeding my kiddos. We had a lactation consultant in the hospital. Breastfeeding was kinda frowned upon, I remember her being so excited that I had chosen that route. She was amazing, but we didn't have the information overload moms do today, I think that might've made it easier. Instinct can be better, but it was definitely helpful to have the information/encouragement she gave. You also reminded me of 1more thing, I remember all I had to do was hear the baby cry and my milk would come gushing. Its crazy how wonderfully made our bodies are to be able to do what they do. When they're working correctly, anyway!
You're doing so great!! Keep up the good work!😀

Heart knowledge not head knowledge lead to the success. Learning to turn people out is difficult. One issue is hearing to much advice from well meaning ;people. After my traumatic brain injury, so many people that meant well gave some much advice. They were not truly listening to me. A psychologist helped me come out of a deep clinical depression.

Thank you for this. I have always been heartbroken that I wasn’t able to breastfeed my first for long and have hoped for a redemptive experience for my baby #2 due in a few weeks. I feel so much more relaxed. Thank you for the dose of hope! Also you are hilarious!

You are so welcome! Some more hope... whatever I said in this video WORKED because Baby B is older than 2 now and still breastfeeding strong. You've got this!! I hope you and baby both transition smoothly and safely in a few weeks.

For us - we started with the best recommendation you gave: Optimistic attitude. And it worked for us. We viewed ourselves as unique, and disregarded most comments. So, we breastfed all our babies - and supplemented at night. This provided longer sleep cycles, and gave us our much needed rest.

    • @MommingwithMigraine

The mental attitude really does make a huge difference. I'm thankful I had the "proper" information, but did better when I saw it as a suggestion list rather than a rule book. I LOVE that you found a great mix that worked for you. Perfect!!

Omg I LOVE that you give extra to baby A! Some people are such freaks about giving older babies breastmilk! 😂

    • @MommingwithMigraine
      @MommingwithMigraine  2 года назад +4

SO TRUE. I'm guilty of this. As a high schooler I used to babysit a 4 year old that was still occasionally breastfed. I never said anything but inside I didn't understand it. Later I heard the average weaning age worldwide is something like age 6..?!!!! And that baby on average increases in IQ by 3 points for every year they get breastmilk. Now that I'm a mom I'm like, call me crazy I'M GIVING THEM THE GOOD STUFF 👍🤪 I do like that she gets it in a bottle so I don't get bit 🤣 She's only 16 months, we'll see how long it lasts.

A friend of ours breastfed her son until the age of four. We didn't have the willpower for that. Our kids kicked the breasts around 1 year. Solid food was much more fun. What with all the trowing it around and smearing it in their hair...

Dude, yes. I've only recently discovered just how strong that stigma still is. I feel like in many places we've moved past judging moms for breastfeeding period, or for doing so in public... but apparently nursing a toddler is taking things too far 🙄

Thank you for your story! While I didn't have supply issues, the first month of breastfeeding my son was absolute hell for other reasons. I feel like a total badass for making it through... but I'm also definitely hoping for a smoother ride next time 😂

So glad you’ve had such a positive experience with breastfeeding this time around! And I LOVE that Baby A is benefiting as well. 😊 It’s SO hard and I hate that moms feel guilty when they just don’t have the milk supply because it’s not always within their control. My oldest hardly ate anything for the first two days of his life and I felt SO guilty. He plummeted in weight before we left the hospital and we were given grief over that, but we figured it out over the first few weeks of his life by throwing away the rule book, feeding on demand, and having lots of skin to skin cuddle time. I set goals to try to BF him for three months, six months, one year, and eventually beyond. He was 20lbs by the time he was 5 months old! 😳 In total, I ended up with three kids and breastfed for over nine years straight. I never in a million years would have imagined that was possible.
You’re a rockstar, Mama! Keep following your instincts. They’re so powerful. 🥰💜

I'm over here cheering for you like you're my team winning the superbowl. LOOK AT YOU!! I know in my heart that my supply last time dropped a lot partially because my cranial pressure was high and uncontrolled (I was misdiagnosed and didn't know). So it's too bad I felt so guilty about something I had no control over and I know I'm not the only mom. Thank you for the kind words of encouragement, and for sharing your story. I feel invigorated after your comment. Like I can totally do this! It's so scary to be breastfeeding during a formula shortage when I know firsthand how fast supply can plummet 😥

@@MommingwithMigraine You absolutely can do this! It’s been a really fulfilling journey for me, especially because endometriosis and chronic migraine/menieres/vestibular neuritis/neuropathy-du-jour made me feel like my body was broken in some way. But just look what our bodies are capable of! 🥰🦸‍♀️

    Wow. So, two points.
    1) Pro tip: My mom always made sure she had formula on hand. She never had to use it but I think having it on hand helped give her piece of mind that if the boob isn't doing it, there is food, so Baby's health wasn't a concern for her.
    2) Oh, so that's [one of the many reasons] my body is NOT interested in making babies. I would also want to boobfeed but lord, skin to skin being the best way to increase milk supply? No thanks. I love touch and cuddles and skin to skin but I have my sensory limits. I am absolutely certain the amount of skin to skin my body needs for making milk totally surpasses how much touch I can take.
Doesn't mean I can't be a great parent. ...just another reason into the pot of Me Making No Babies.

Can you talk about breast feeding in public and ways to do it without showing off to much?
I have notice a strong push to destigmatize public breast feeding, and I think that is important.

It depends on each person, but most people don’t use full power because it’s too much suction & it hurts.
