    The Tisas DS 9 Duty B9R is a budget affordable 2011 double stack 1911 pistol chambered in 9mm. It is reliable and easily the best 2011 for the money. But everything is a trade-off, so what's the catch? Is it better than the Springfield Prodigy 1911ds, the Girsan, Rock Island Armory, Staccato or even Bul Armory? Watch this review from Nightwood Guns to find out! This 2011 is only 750 bucks?!? 👀

      These guns are made in Turkey. The exchange rate is 3.21 Turkish Liras for 1 US Dollar. That is why they are so cheap. It's the same reason eastern European and Chinese AK's and the spam can ammo to feed them was so cheap back in the day. A strong US dollar. If they ever decide to join the EU and reorganize their economic system to meet standards for adopting the Euro, those dirt cheap Tisas/Girsan/Canik/Panzer arms pistols and shotguns are going to cost about as much as their American or European counterparts.

    This is the first video of yours I have seen. I appreciate the manner and content of the video. Thank you for the review.
    I own a Tisas Duty .45 ACP and a Tisas Night Stalker in 10mm. Both have worked quite well. The Night Stalker was sent in for the hammer recall before I got to shoot it. After it came back, it has ran perfectly. The Duty has had one round failure to feed but that was from a magazine I bought on the cheap. I bought two of those mags, one has had no issues and one has a single failure to feed the second time it was loaded. Otherwise, both have operated without error.
    I also have a MAC 1014 and it has also operated without any issues. I bought the Duty first. Because it ran well, I got the Night Stalker. Because they both ran well, I took a chance on the MAC 1014. So far, I have been quite happy with the three SDS Imports products I have purchased and I now have good regard for their products. After seeing this video and a couple of others, I will pickup one of these DS handguns. I will make that purchase with no hesitation considering my personal experience with their other firearms.
    Thank you again for the good video review.

      Idk I’m torn between a Glock or a Tisas 1911. I’m leaning towards the 1911, but I can’t ignore the Glock options because they will just work and I have the most experience with them.
      Also this would be my first pistol. I ultimately would like to have both in the future. Just not sure which one to get first

    • @the1911FrenchAddict
      @the1911FrenchAddict 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@DKlikesStuff in that case, for a first gun, I would go to a glock, hi cap mags, easy to shoot, really accurate and regular.
      And you ll appreciate the 1911 more, the trigger is insane, very good looking, so classic, so pleasant.
      Glock is a really good first gun according to me. Pay a little more extra and take the mount optic system, so you ll can keep it and upgrade your glock.
      The tisas 9mm is amazing to shoot,
      The 45 is... Man, it s God s caliber😂, the daddy s gun.
      I love 45 so much, but honestly, I shoot the 9 mil more often.

    Pretty definite that my SAR and my Caniks are made in Turkey... Both run great. You mentioned that your MC9 had issues. I luckily haven't had any issues with the SFX, the Combat Elite, or the MC9. I feel like anyone can possibly get a lemon, but when there are so many options for a similar fit, why not go for something that's more modular and/or has a better aftermarket support. I did replace my MC9 with a P365 and have truely made it the way I like it. So many ways to design and carry it. I know from watching previous videos of yours, you're more into Glock which is for good reason. Gotta love the modern gun market!

    • @NightwoodGuns
      @NightwoodGuns  5 месяцев назад +1

      Turkey is getting good at making guns! I’d say it was a good move switching to a P365 from the MC9 though. Thats the one I would never trust. The Glock 43x and the P365 are the two “slimline” guns I recommend 👍

    i have the carry version of this gun, and it was super rough in the hands but shoots like a damn dream. Mine had a break-in period and feels way oversprung but it runs and it's really accurate. Mine's wearing a little early in the front on the rails and the slide, but it's getting "smoother" as a result. I'm so glad someone else has the same opinion about the safeties. Those things suck to touch.

    MY REVIEW: The Tisas DS9 Duty shoots great, is well sprung, no rattles (for mine), crisp safety, with no malfunctions in 500 rounds. Compared to my small, medium & full-size pistols, it feels....substantial to me, in a good way (I'm never going to carry this concealed). It needs to break in: the slide corners at the slide/disconnector and slide/hammer interfaces are sharp 90s, and I'm sure the trigger action will smooth out (although it's nice out of the box). You could speed all that up with some light stoning and a sear spring adjustment.
    OPTICS CUT: I can confirm a few other reports on r/Tisas - my optics cut was slightly tilted such that I couldn't zero a red dot (exceeded max elevation of the optic). I had to *slightly* shim up the rear to bring to dot down so it could be zero'd (6 layers of electrical tape, pressed hard, is thinner than the plastic red dot shims I've seen).
    COST: Price of my Tisas DS9 Duty was $633. Total cost (w/ S&H, FFL, Streamlight TLR-1, & $90 red dot) = $886. I have my eye on a $60 1911/TLR-1 kydex holster and $50 3rd mag (when they're back in stock) for a great budget 1911 double-stack kit for $996. Such a good value.

    • @NightwoodGuns
      @NightwoodGuns  5 месяцев назад

      Thanks for sharing your experience 👍 This is the Tisas inconsistency I was talking about. My optic cut was perfect, it required no break in, and the trigger was phenomenal out of the box. But my slide to frame fit rattles 😅 Still great for the price, though!

    • @SteveHamlin1
      @SteveHamlin1 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@NightwoodGuns Let me adjust my "break in" comment - it doesn't *need* to break in (it works fine, no issues or failures (other than the optics cut)), but like all guns it will smooth out over time.
      1. I can feel where the bottom edge of breach face runs into the disconnector on slide return, and
      2. The first 1/4 inch of rearward slide movement you can feel bottom 90 degree edge on the firing pin stop having to overcome the hammer.
      3. Both of those places are wearing in, showing shiny, and will chamfer themselves over time, smoothing those interfaces out. At this price point I wasn't expecting gunsmith-fit, finely-honed, and slicked out - I am very happy with the purchase.

    I had one of these for about two weeks then sold it yesterday. Solid gun but the trigger wasn’t my favorite and the gun worked well except for two malfunctions during 100 rounds. The two were likely caused by the mags being new and stiff. Honestly might buy the carry version rather than 5 inch next time. It’s cheap enough to be a nice carry gun in place of my 43X. Thanks for the review. I am a subscriber from Turkey. This gun hasn’t come out in Turkey yet. I think it is probably because the manufacturer is expecting the lira to devaluate after the municipal elections in March 31. If only imported guns were sold close to prices in their countries of origin, I would’ve gone for a Staccato. But even the Prodigy is being sold for more than 9k dollars by the government right now. Well, at least now I am confident after seeing your review that the gun is reliable. Keep up the great work, much appreciated 🙏🏻👍🏻

    Great review. I have the Carry model, i've always wanted a DS 1911 but wasn't sure if i would really like the super wide grip on them. Was going to get a prodigy, but then saw all the poor reviews and decided to skip it. I saw these ones coming out and ordered one as soon as I could. I put some HandleIt Edge grips on it (because i've become obsessed and put them on everything) and its been excellent. Pretty happy considering the last gun I bought at release was the MC9, which has been nothing but problems. Just received a replacement recoil spring, but have no urge to shoot it. I'm a pretty economical person, I tend to get things that provide quality for value, and the DS9 hits that spot hard.

    I already have and enjoy the devil ray carry, and it's 9mm copy. Recieved the DS Duty friday 8-9-24 and many of us shot it with no problems, the safety on the left side bothers my grip AND the narrow front sight and the TOO wide gap on the rear doesn't help accuracy that it could achieve, but it's fast.

Number 2 complaint taken care of. I do have to admit that the pinch points you referred to were still biting me. Looking forward to mounting a Fox Army fxv 22 Pro red dot sight on it. Good review. The MAC review is the one that changed my mind from the Carry to the Duty. So far it is an excellent choice.

    Not sure if you've ever been lucky enough to read the old gun magazines before the internet days, but in the early 90's the "professionals" some of whom are still in the scene and on RUclips, demonstrated the press check in print. American handgunner was one of my favorite magazines. Couple things most reviewers skip over....
    The example I had (Night Stalker) was VERY accurate and 100% reliable.
    That little RMR CC window get really crowded with suppressor height sites in it.
    The factory RMR CC cut is fine for those optics, but PRECLUDES using a plate to go to a "full size" optic without machining and major surgery.
    The Grip is Yuuuge and I'd love to see them come in smaller and stippled.
    Direct swapping the grip, to an STI / Stacatto gen 2 reduced and stippled by Dark Side Precision, resulted in a non-functioning gun, as it pinned the trigger. I will look more into why and possible cures.

    I own a few Tisas guns. Most are decent. The GI 1911 duty model for $300 is hard to beat though. For some reason the fit and finish on that model is really good. Surprisingly good. For 2011's I have RIA's double stacks, which are their own version of double stack 1911s that are not modular, and the Prodigy. Both are decent, but I still feels they are a tad more expensive than what they offer up in value. The RIA tends to be at $900 if you can find one, and the Prodigy at $1200 as well. Both of them shoot well, but the fit and finish on both leave a lot to be desired. Especially at their higher prices. Right now this model can be had for about $600 and I'm severely tempted to get one at that price. Waiting to see if it drops below $600. Other than that I'm watching out still for the Apollo and the Platypus.

    A note on the Honda vs Maserati comparison...the Honda is actually the better vehicle. It will be more reliable, cheaper to maintain, and cheaper to insure and will probably run longer too. As for the Tisas, I sold my Stingray (which was 100% reliable and very well built) to a buddy, and picked up the Duty DS. A week later I picked up the Carry DS. They may not be $2000 2011s, but for both I paid less than one Bul or Stacatto. Also, the slide/frame fit doesn't bother me at all since the Tisas are about where my Platypus and Prodigy are. A little wiggle, but nothing annoying, and it actually helps reliability because it won't choke when it gets dirty. Either way, I love Tisas guns. They're cheap, they run, and I have QPQ slides, while my Prodigy and Platy are cerakote. Not knocking the cerakote but...QPQ is pretty sweet.

      Even though the MAC 9 has all of the features he gave negatives for, because the plate on the MAC does not allow you to co-witness with any RDS at this time("We're working on a solution"🤷‍♂️), the Tisas DS Carry(4.25) is a smokin' deal.🇺🇸🤘🇺🇸

    Would you say its reliable enough to daily carry? Im not a sub compact guy and like 4 in to 5 in barrel lengths. Im wanting to get a firearm like that to replace my current carry (Taurus G3) and im on a budget

    My raider needed extractor tuning as it was FTE every round. After that its been fine 800ish rds. The MAC JSOC has been solid with 47Ds.

      Seems like the MAC line is solid all around 👍

    I’m new to guns and spending 2k out a staccato is out of the question. I could save for it but own a gun that cost more than my car is wild lol.

    Almost retracted my like when he said a Maserati was better than a Honda, but we're going to overlook that. Great video, very thorough. I just purchased the Night Stalker version of this. Couldn't believe it when I saw one of these in the case. Then the salesman brough out two more from the back and said they just didn't have room to put all the versions out. I ultimately want a Staccato, but I just have to try out the new under dog in the 2011 game. I assume the 20rd magazines for the Staccato P fit this gun? I plan on picking a couple up to run with the factory ones it comes with.

      Don’t worry, I drive my wife’s CRV all the time. I love Honda, it was just a silly analogy 😅👍 And yeah, the Staccato mags will work in this!
