    The MAC 9 DS made by Tisas has been dubbed the Turkatto or the Staccato 2011 at home. This affordable double stack 1911 pistol has gotten a lot of buzz in the industry? But is it truly the best 2011 for the money? I don't view this so much as being a budget 2011 as I do a cheaply manufactured attempt to play with the big boys like the Staccato P, Springfield Prodigy, Bul Armory SAS II Tac, and more. So, I am not pulling any punches. In this video I will cover any problems, issues, or malfunctions I may have had with this 9mm pistol as well as an in-depth honest review about what features make this a great option... possibly even in the top 2011 pistols on the market in 2024. We will discuss whether or not it is reliable or has reliability issues as well as whether or not I think its worth it. Enjoy this full MAC 9 DS Tisas 2011 review from Nightwood Guns!

    Seems like itd be a good project gun to deal with all the shortcomings:
    1. Install an atlas trigger of choice
    2. Bend sear spring to adjust trigger weight
    3. Bend extractor for more tension
    4. Grip tape/new grip module
    5. Spring kit
    6. Polish internals
    For less than $200 and some work it could turn out well

      It is funny to me that what you have here even needs to be mentioned. I did not even shoot mines before I broke it down got the trigger pull to 3.5lbs by bending the spring, put in a lighter spring and spacer and mines works great. We know what we bought and expect to have to do some upgrades. It was 1000 bucks not 2500 going to have to do something. With that said I love mines it runs great after the changes.

      Yep, this is exactly right. I just review the gun out of the box because the majority of consumers in this industry aren’t gun nerds and won’t want to tear down a 2011. But this gun is 100% a serviceable foundation for a great build 👍

      @@thebenior They do have different specs. The MAC has a longer rail and also is cut for the RMR. I have one and have had a great experience so far. I do want a lighter trigger pull so I have that being done now. So even with the trigger work I'll come in about for the stock price of a Prodigy and not have MIM parts to potentially contend with. The MAC is a Prodigy alternative, not a Stacatto alternative in my opinion. At least that's why I purchased it.

  • @sdsimports

    Thanks for checking the MAC out! For the price point we put everything we could into it. You're trigger is def heavier than our 4.5# avg. I would usually say, " glad you enjoyed it" but you didn't, but I've shared your video with the product mangers. I will say all of your short comings with the MAC are prevalent with others off the shelf guns but we addressed a lot of others. Compatibility with many parts so the owners can tinker and grow the pistol. I see people taking new STI's and throwing 1000.00 of parts and labor into them in the 2011 subreddit every day. Hopefully the Tisas and Mac give a whole new market to test the waters without a 2400... heck even a 1400 entry into the platform. Excellent video as always though. keep it up sir.

      Great to see you guys chiming in here, just to let you know my mac-9 is fantastic. I just adjusted the trigger myself and it's sub 3 lb now. I did throw another grip on it and I absolutely love it. I've had no issues with it so far. No it doesn't compare to my staccato or my Wilson Combat, but it also only cost me a grand. It's a great starter gun and one that can be built on and tinkered with. I've had none of these issues. It's always funny when people complain so much about a 1911 trigger, most of them can be fixed with just an adjustment of the sear. The angles on the sear and the hammer on mine were perfect, it's like breaking glass. Just a quick bend and pow! 3.5, then a little but and now sub 3lb, still crisp.

      Solid response @sdsimports ...seems like he just got a lemon trigger as ones I handled in stores seemed at least under 5 lbs MAC & Tisas DS. The 10mm Yukon I didled the fit was awesome! Hoping you will get something out soon. When I put New stuff to my channel vids out they get more views & engagement . There are some cool Commanders w bobcuts or I think the Stakeouts would sell really good if more aware of them and they had a good front sight & some cool full size like the Enhanced or Texas models. I've got full rmr size Gideon waiting to put on something optics ready like a no safety Gen 3 too.

    • @fattigla
      @fattigla 4 месяца назад +5

      I would like to see some improvement on the safety, it needs to take positive force to flip "off safe". Also higher sights so we can get a cowitness with the deck height of an SRO. Extractor tuning is also a necessary thing, as it could lead to so.e malfunctions if not done properly. If the improvements are made. The pistol needs to be a "Gen II" designation. Don't just make a rolling change as consumers won't know which pistol they a buying.

    • @MoneyShot_CM
      @MoneyShot_CM 4 месяца назад +7

      @@fattigla I think you should know that most people don't have a problem with the safety, it seems to be a sporadic issue. All the people that I've talked to, their safety is like mine, stiff as a board and cannot be accidentally flipped off or on. Knight wood was the first person I heard mention it, not saying there aren't others out there. But even though the humble marksman was kind of positive and down on the pistol as well, he remarked it to safety on his was fine. It seems like a consistency issue and not something that needs to be improved in another generation. Every safety has to be fit on a 1911.

    I put an 11 lb recoil spring in my Mac 9 with an Atlas toolless guide rod and a 17 lb main spring. In my opinion the pistol was way over sprung from the factory. It came with a 4 pd trigger from the factory and shoots flat as can be with the spring changes I made. No issues at all with the safeties, they are very positive and tactile.. My Atlas 140mm mags work great in it. The grip texture could be better and my next move for it will be a Cheely E2 grip for it as soon as they are back in stock. I paid $869.00 for mine and I put less than $100.00 in it and I couldn't be happier with the results. It's not a 5- 6K custom made double stack 1911...but it's a great pistol to tinker with for the money.

I don’t think that anyone should expect a entry level 2011 at 1k msrp to have no flaws and I’m glad to see that it doesn’t malfunction and overall it is a good cheap firearm. I can definitely agree the trigger was heavy and it was definitely over sprung. But simple fixes i adjusted the sere and got 3.5 lb average extremely crisp brake. Threw in an Atlas 12 lb recoil spring and a 19 lb hammer spring and just those minor adjustments which costed about 20$ w shipping completely changed the gun. Everyone I’ve had pick it up fall in love with it sheerly based on how well it performs and the price point, I’ve got about 1500 rounds thru it and the grip could definitely be improved but I’ve had zero slippage issues even with sweaty hands. Used it for competition in 3 matches now and the grip was never an issue

      Oh yeah, if you mod this thing I bet you can turn it into an absolute monster. It’s a great foundation for a custom blaster. I see SDS responded to this video. The MAC is NOT a 2011. All of the complaints are directed to fit and tuning. I have several Stacattos, you do not NEED to put $1000 into a P to get it to run perfectly. Yes, Tisas uses forged internals, which is a higher-end choice, but to get the tuning you need on the extractor and disconnector you need to go with extreme or EGW internals. You change the trigger, and the Atlas aftermarket is only $65.00. and you can tune it to 3 lbs and change the entire complexion of the gun. The grip, stipple it, or change it out. The reason full-length dust covers appear on 2011s is to counterbalance weight. The Tisas and MAC are the first issues and are learning tools for the company and shooters. Heck, I buy the Prodigy and a $550 internals upgrade.

    I think that because you have a sanple size of one you may have just received one that didn’t get as much love as it should have before leaving the factory.
    My buddy has one and while I agree that it needs more aggressive texturing, his trigger consistently broke at slightly over 4lbs. I also agree that the trigger reach is a bit too far out there; especially, considering I have medium sized hands not Hicock 45 sized digits. His also had a very uniform ejection pattern.
    Too be fair this is Tisas and MAC first run at a “2011" styled pistol so there may be some growing pains. That said, I still think that they have a great platform upon which to build a fully custom 1911 DS that will not break the bank. Even if you had 1800 in the pistol by the time you were done tricking it out, it is significantly cheaper than a Stacatto. These firearms are not commonly left in stock format regardless of initial cost. Everyone wants to customize and tune their firearm to tgeir personal preference, so if this has all the right DNA at a pricepoint that leaves plenty of meat on the bone, IMO it is a complete win.

    • @NightwoodGuns
      @NightwoodGuns  4 месяца назад +1

      I agree that this gun is great after replacing a bunch of parts and upgrading it. (Although, at 1800 you could have a Bul Armory) But I disagree that these pistols aren’t commonly left stock and that everyone wants to customize them. 2011s were niche firearms until STI rebranded to Staccato and made them duty-reliable and ready to rock out of the box. I believe 2011s are now mainstream because of that. Maybe the majority of enthusiast posters on Reddit and Instagram as well as competitors are customizing them, but I believe the majority of buyers in reality are leaving them stock (other than mounting red dots/WMLs) That’s my observation at least.

However, once you kit it out with an Atlas trigger, tooless guide rod, Atlas spring and Phoenix Trinity Hero Grip, it transforms to a different gun 😉

    It’s weird that two of these short comings, the grip and the trigger shoe, could both have been made better by just taking what is on the base Tisas B9R DS. I had the same concerns on the trigger shoe when I looked at pre production pictures. What’s weird about it for me is 2011s already tend to be chonky, to the point where people pay good money to have grip reductions done. To make the trigger reach even longer is head scratching.

    • @NightwoodGuns
      @NightwoodGuns  4 месяца назад

      It probably boiled down to wanting a grip module that “looked” like a Staccato grip module and wanting a clearly flat trigger shoe because those are perceived as being better or more desirable. But yeah, lots of head scratching with this one. They were so close 😂

    Trigger? Too long for this hobbit. Need medium curved or short flat...also too heavy at the moment, possibly because I'm sorta pushing it sideways and back...too too long.
    Ejection pattern? To my right, none at my feet, none forward. Like Humble said, don't get an RDS that intrudes into the ejection port.
    Recoil Spring? Heavy. New springs are cheap, get a 4 or 5 pack, tune it to the load. Mine was also 100% reliable.

    I understand your complaints, I own one that I've just gotten over 1000 rounds. But 3 very cheap things fix this gun immediately. First is an atlas gun works recoil spring set, the original spring is for a 5 inch gun and even that is a bit snappy. I've found the 14 ilbs spring is both reliable and much softer shooting. then either tune the seer spring and disconnector to help the trigger and spring pressure on the disconnector, so that it doesn't hang up. If you don't feel comfortable tuning your own mainspring, you can buy a colt mainspring for $9 and I'm theory it would solve the same problem. Then get any high quality pin springs for the safety and takedown pins. The stock one is too loose and that's why the safety feels like a dud. And lastly some skateboard tape will fix the grip problem. All in you're at about $1080 and the gun shoots almost as well as a staccato. Definitely not quite that level, but for less than half the price, it's an excellent gun. And a phenomenal one to learn more about how the platform works, and what makes a good 1911.

    • @BboyYellowFlash
      @BboyYellowFlash 4 месяца назад

      @@NightwoodGuns that comes down to production cost. I'm 90% sure (can't confirm because the don't list spring weights) that all tisas 1911's use the same recoil springs. That's why a lot of people say the 4.25 models are snappy. Producing 1 spring setup is cheaper than having multiple assembly lines. Cleaning up the disconnector and seer springs is hand tuning that no off the shelf 1911 is going to have (colt makes an excellent stock mainspring, so that's why many people say, just buy one of those) but you're 100% right about the grip. The 25 lines per inch on the front and back do work, but the sides are so slick it's not enough, especially given how fat 2011 grips are. I use skateboard tape on my daily carry, so I just did the same on this and it immediately fixed the problem. It would cost tisas a lot in manufacturing to get that last little bit of tuning into the gun, and from what I've gathered, you can cut corners on parts (Springfield) and have it shoot great, but be unreliable. Or you can use off the shelf 1911 parts that are forged and solid, but put less into slide mass/springweight/grip design, and get a product you an fix for less than $100 to shoot like a $2000 gun. It costs more than a staccato to make a prodigy as good as a staccato, and it still won't be quite there cause it isn't a hand fit gun. This is as close as you'll get, and it costs less to start, and less to fix. Honestly for 1100 you won't find a better shooting pistol than this other than a CZ shadow 2

    • @BboyYellowFlash
      @BboyYellowFlash 4 месяца назад

      @@NightwoodGuns all that being said, I can't confirm there won't be gun to gun issues, and mine may have just been a good one that was set up well for the modifications I made. I think the tisas model is the better buy for 99% of people, cause they're cheaper, easier to takedown, and they apparently still shoot quite well, but if you want to learn about 1911's and 2011's and you want the platform to be workable, this is an awesome starting point, and a great introduction into competition shooting, and why competition guns have the parts/tuning they do.

    yeah, they dogged the grip texture and trigger length.
    Slide to frame fit is LOOSE.
    Safeties aren't great.
    NOT really RMR cut, but it comes with a plate.
    The TISAS optics cut precludes full sized optics.... BIG MISTAKE.
    Otherwise.... a solid pistol and a great value.
    I swapped grip, trigger, and safeties.... tweaked the springs and trigger weight..... GREAT (base) gun.

      Yep, it’s a great foundation to tune up and upgrade! If they didn’t drop the ball on the features you mentioned, it would have been an incredible “out of the box” 2011

    Shame about that optic flaking out at 400rds. I’d seen those Gideons out there, was waiting on the word to come out.

    I still want a DS Carry 4.25" at some point every OZ matters and i know my backs belt line limit for actual carry. Glad you put more shooting footage in this one. Actually want more I know young ADHD like snap cuts and short vids but this easily could have been 15 minutes IMO and you have a strong base now to make vids a bit longer perhaps w more shooting footage id like to see hits and times on drills etc

    My perspective any 2011 is a better shooting experience than the😢 plastic wonder "Glock".
