  • Welcome back to our channel, today we are in Kauai, HI and we are hiking a very popular hike on the island called Sleeping Giant or Nounou. It's called Sleeping Giant because when you view this mountain from the east shore of the island, the mountain range looks like a person laying down on their back looking up at the sky.
We've hiked this mountain before but we hiked the Nounou East trail, this time we are hiking the Kuamo'o trail which wraps you around the mountain first before bringing you to the top.
We really enjoyed this trail compared to the other trail that we've hiked because it was far less crowded and more of an adventure. Although we did not encounter many other hikers we did encounter A LOT of mud! When visiting Kauai, be sure to bring old sneakers that you don't mind getting destroyed.
The trails leading to the top of Sleeping Giant bring you to a picnic area with some stunning views. However, if you are feeling brave and up for more adventure, you can continue hiking to the "chin" of the giant where there are amazing 360-degree views. There is also a cool cave below the "chin" that you can explore.
We hoped you enjoyed this video, please give it a like and be sure to comment below and tell us your favorite part! Be sure to subscribe to our channel to see where we'll hike next, we post every Thursday.
As always thank you for watching,
    Hannah & Richard

Have you guys hiked to Kipu Falls? I see the 8ft fence on Google Maps but wonder if people go around it.

This place is beautiful! Hawaii is on my bucklet list because of places like this...that first overlook view is incredible. I enjoy hiking, but haven't been able to do it lately, so I'm totally digging this.

We are hoping to do a Top _ in Kauai type video soon which will definitely show some beaches! Thank you for the suggestion. It is so beautiful here, we are so lucky to be able to explore it during our winters.

the mud! I bet it makes your feet heavier! but it's all worth it after seeing the view...you did a good job in your voice over!

Thank you so much for your feedback! The mud was so exhausting because with each step you are off balance and unsure which direction you'll slip. We've hiked another trail up this mountain that was not muddy at all! It's okay though, adds to the adventure, and the view was amazing!

What a gorgeous place to hike and film. I love taking videos out in nature too, but I need to upgrade to a better camera 😅🤗 I look forward to seeing more of your adventures!!

Yeah we are looking in to other camera options. We have a nice DSLR but it is heavy and some of our hikes could destroy the nice camera. Right now we film on a combination of the iPhone and GoPro.

This is absolutely stunning I've never been to Hawaii but how its on my list. I also wonder what animal laid eggs in that hole 🤔. I appreciate that you told the history of those gorgeous trees. There is something magical about this forest.

It's definitely chicken eggs, chickens have taken over the islands of Hawaii ever since being brought to the island hundreds of years ago. There aren't many animals on the island since, well, it's an island! Thanks for your kind comment!

Looks like a fun and tiring, but still relaxing hike! So desperate to go and visit Hawaii and enjoy not only the beach but also the beautiful nature! That cute little nest... awww. Is it a moderate or very hard hike (I know the mud makes it look soooo much harder)?

    • @WildandGrowing
      @WildandGrowing  4 года назад

This hike is moderate and there are 3 different trails with different effort levels. There are shorter but steeper trails and longer but less steep trails, it depends on what you are looking for.

I haven't done much hiking in my life yet but I do want to. I think Hawaii would be a fun place to hike. The scenery looks so beautiful 😍. I think I would be in such awe. As for the wild animals I think I would be a little scared lol So much mud! I'm scared of heights so that last part is a nonono 😱

No matter where you are, wild animals are not going to harm you unless they are desperate. Humans are much bigger and louder than animals in the forest so when they hear you coming they'll run away! But especially in Hawaii, there are no real threats to humans. The island does not have much diversity of animal life here. Wild pigs can be dangerous but rarely are. I hope that calms your fears a bit and motivates you to get outside to hike.

I love jungle trails! We were there 2 years ago, but did not have the appropriate shoes for hiking this trail. It was even more muddier than what you have encountered, so we are planning to hike it next time when we are there. Would you recommend it?

This hike is a must do if you are visiting and only have time for a few hikes. It's really easy to access and there are many different options up the mountain with varying difficulties. It has an amazing view as well. Hope you get a chance to visit!

If it helps you to bring hiking polls, definitely do! We found that having all limbs available for climbing helped us.
