Driving lights and dash lights are so bright these days that people may think they have them on already.

... no daytime running light is anywhere near bright enough to believe you have your headlights on.
This is just plain and simple inattention and poor driving practices and there is NO excuse, especially when almost all modern cars have AUTO headlights.

@@FalconXE302 The DRLs on my wife's Hyundai are enough to light up the road. Maybe they should not illuminate the instrument cluster as well.

you would think that the DC car would drive up beside them and let them know about no lights on .

The auto industry has a lot to do with this. Having lights on the dash board that make no sense and with drivers not understanding how to operate a vehicle you get situations like this. And then with the ability to not turn your headlights off (high beams only!) people are not sure what you mean. It's a circle jerk.

This is because the dash lights on modern cars are always on, leads people to think their headlights are on.

Big problem with modern cars is dashboard is so lit up during the day or they have screens for dashboards that it hard to tell if the lights are on and the problem is worse when cars have driving lights also

I’ve often gotten in front, turned OFF my lights and back on. After first, doing the flash headlight thing.

I see this all the time, flashing, turning my lights on and off etc has ZERO impact. drivers are so tunnel vision these days and have zero situational awareness. With DRL, electronic dashes and auto headlights, so many people are oblivious.

Driving up behind someone and continually flashing your lights is useless, unless you want them to stop. Try turning your lights very briefly OFF then back ON... this usually gets the message through much quicker.

i find this works most of the time as well because it makes it really obvious when you turn your lights back on that the only light is coming from you, not them

Remember years ago there gangs in the US driving around with their headlights off, then if a driver flashed their lights trying to be helpful, the hoods would turn around, chase them, & shoot at them!

Isn’t that from urban legend 😂

So many clueless comments, but DRL's on means the driver is unaware their regular lights are off as their lights light up the road ahead, and their dash lights come on as well. Flashing your lights at them will only confuse the person, best to drive alongside and tell them.

Suppose when you are blind to everything going on around you , having light on wouldn’t help anyway.

l am sure the offending driver is on the phone to the Police saying someone is chasing and causing road rage against them.☹Oblivious that they don't have their lights on.

Thats the trouble with model day vehicles, the vehicle is smarter than the peanut behind the wheel.

There is nothing turned on in that car.

I bet you the instrument lights came on automatically with the ignition - so they thing the lights are on.

A few years ago I was driving behind a car on the Bass highway for about 40 minutes. I notified the victoria police it was dangerous and they promised to have a highway patrol there. 40 minutes later I turned off and left them to go their way and you could not see them.
A few days later I saw another car going by the opposite direction and I thought of turning around and letting them know their lights were off. Then I thought "Hey the victorian cops didn't care - why should I" I kept going home from work. Got a call to go back to work and check the fences because a car had crashed into a innocent motorist and ended up on its roof. I went back and guess what - it was the same car as before with no lights. I checked my dashcam and there was even a cop car 2 cars in front who didn't even realise there was a car with no lights 2 cars back.

I've done that plenty of times, then you drive in a dark area and it's pitch black.

Driving lights are on, and so are the dash lights, so the driver can't tell the difference.
