In this video I show the use of the CPL Die Cutting machine to cut out shapes in leather and other materials. I show the machine cutting both simple shapes and complex designs of pre-made die cutters. I show the wide range of die cutters available for the crafter and how to use the die cutter machine to stamp out perfect pieces for making keyrings, wallets cases and many other projects. I then show the use of the CPL FoilCraft Junior Hot Foil Stamping Machine to personalise some of the items stamped out by the Die Cutting Machine. I talk about the benefits of using a die cutter to speed up batch production of leather goods.

Note about Affiliate Links:
The link takes you directly to the supplier’s website (Usually a local retailer in your own country where you can buy the item). The item will not cost you any more but the retailer may give us a very small commission for sending you to their site. This small (usually only a few pence) payment helps the channel to cover some of its running costs, so it is a big help to us if you use our link. Thanks for your support!

Very timely Geordie! I bought a press like this last week, but primarily for debossing stamps. I assumed the whole plate area would have even pressure and wondered why it wasn't working properly. But you have shown that that multiple presses with this type is necessary, so I know mine is not dodgy now, thank you. Havre you tried to use yours for debossing? I'll check out your dies too.
Yes. It does a good job at debossing too.
Geordie is to leather videos what Bob Ross is to painting videos. Nicely done!
Wow, thank you!
It's amazing how many tools for this and that in our craft we buy over the year's. If I had known 10 years ago all the tools I would buy, I probably never became a cobbler. 😆
I developed arthritis in my hands and wrists a few years ago and I had to find other methods where I could save myself a lot more pain. I started using a press to cut out much of my work. I hope now I can continue work for many more years to come.
Best of luck. I hope you can continue with your love for leatherwork.
I dig how organized your work bench is. My father, a great cook, had a shelf like that for his spices. Organized work space, organized mind.
Thanks for the kind words.
I'm definitely getting one of these. Thanks Geordie!
Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you for the video, I started around a month ago and your videos have been such a nice help !
You are so welcome!
Lucky Brian! Another great video and I adore your soothing voice.
Thank you kindly!
Thanks so much Geordie.
Any time!
Very clever ideas💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Hello Benjamin. Thanks. I'm pleased you found it useful.
Another good video 👍🏻
Thanks 👍
Great video, I’m in canada and have been thinking about getting the cpl die cutter it’s nice to see it in action
These are available in most countries at a lower price.
Well done
You're welcome.
Very nice new intro.
Glad you like it
OLD LEATHER SMITH here, very interesting, yes U R right, it is Very Quick, right now I do it the OLD WAY and I am thinking about doing it UR way, U C I only do Bespoke 4 clients, nothing 4 sale, but it's a good idea, thanks, GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃
Thanks Jim.
Man you are an all around craftsman. Thank you for the video. I have a small shop in Brazil and I am trying to have the fluffy and crisp kind of duck seal of Dooney Bourke do you have any suggestion to reach that quality of leather stamp ?
Hi. I'm not familiar with this, so I can't comment. Sorry.
Hi there Geordie. Just discovered your channel. Great quality content you've got here. Would love to see the channel grow. So I'm mad about leather and been at it for about a year. Quick question on the topic of dies...is there any milage in trying to use them with a mallet? I think I know the answer but I'd love to hear from someone who knows their stuff. Do you necessarily have to bite the bullet and go for a press? Cheers in advance!
Hello JM. Thanks for your question. You don't need a press but they make the job ten times easier. I wouldn't recommend using a mallet but you can use what's called a 'Rammer', which is a cylindrical block of nylon. You use this to press (or tap) the back of the dies into the leather. Here is a link to one: ali.ski/KFyZNK
This machine looks great, and more affordable and portable than others. I cant't tell if my dies would fit in it though, they are from weaver leather. Can you recommend a source for pre-made dies like that circle set?
Hi. A full list of supplier links is available for these on the Geordie Leather Site - Link: geordieleather.com/die-cutting-leather-with-the-cpl-die-cutter-batch-production-of-small-leather-goods-in-leatherwork/
This was so helpful, thank you!! Could a press like this cut hair on hide?
I don't see why not.
Thank you for your time, teaching us...much appreciated, can you please tell me the working area specs , where you place the plastic, so I can figure wich one I need to buy for beginners, please, bleassings
Hi. The press shown in the video has a 12"x8" clearance on the baseplate. Hope tis helps.
Thanks for your video. I have recently purchased a very similar press to the one you have demonstrated.
I purchased this because I am wanting to use a smaller desktop press to replace my 30tonne hydraulic clicking press.
I was wondering if you have seen the electric powered mini hydraulic assist presses that are almost identical in size and design to the manual one you demonstrated, but have this added feature/benefit for repetative, high volume cuts.
In the near future, i think i am going to need the mini hydraulic assist benchtop press & was wondering if you could do a demonstration video on one to see how it compares to the manual model.
Hello. Yes, I have seen these. If a supplier wants to send me one, I'll be happy to do a review of it. We may sell this machine in our shop in the future, if there is enough interest.
@@HobbyBloxs Well that would be fabulous - hopefully your video will give the suppliers an idea. BTW - I realised I made a mistake on the desktop cutter thrust mechanism - I believe it is 'pneumatic' assist & definitely NOT hydraulic assist as i indicated by mistake.
👍
Thanks
Love your videos!! I like to make leather bracelets especially cuffs but can’t find cutting dies for cuffs! Do you by any chance know where I can purchase one? Thank you for such great videos!!!😁
Sorry. I've looked at all the suppliers I know but can't find a die for cuffs.
@@HobbyBloxs Thank you for answering!!!!
I had some custom dies made at Weaver Leather. You design your shape and they make it. Pricier than a pre-made shape, but you get exactly what you want.
Hi Geordie, will this machine work for thick veg tan leather (3-3.5mm)? Thanks a lot for your video. Adam

Hi, I stumbled over your videos when I was looking for ideas on what to use mye leather scraps on (I sew purses etc) I am thinking about buying a few dies so I can use my scraps, but I do not have the press that you have. I do however have a heating press, so I'm thinking i might be able to use that to cut out the dies (without heat of course)
Is there anything special about the press except for even pressure without using as much force?

Where is a good place to get dies from in the uk? is there somewhere that has dies ready for sale, or do they have to be custom made? What size is your press? is it possible to use dies that are bigger than the footprint of the press? Thanks in advance! Great video!
Normally you can buy dies from us in the UK at shop.geordieleather.com but we are receiving more orders than we can cope with at the moment and have a big backlog of orders waiting to be made. We have temporarily suspended taking more die orders until we clear the backlog. For more details of the press reviewed in the video, see the link in the description.
Hi Geordie, is it possible to use these dies without a press?
I bought a die the same as your long keyring one thinking i could just hit it, but it bounces about creates indentations and doesn't cut.
Thx for any advice
Hello Sean. You can use a nylon rammer.
Hi Geordie, would you mind sharing what font and size you’re using in your hot foil stamping machine please?
I used a 30pt size font in the demo video.
@@HobbyBloxs Thank you Geordie. My machine arrived in Australia - I'm loving it!
Hi Geordie, is your cutting press the :- 260x150 Mm size? thx
Hello Sean. Yes it is.
Thanks for this and your arbor press videos, Geordie. Very useful for someone like myself getting started.
If its not too much trouble, could you tell me which UK companies might supply the die sets and custom make them to order?
In these Brexit times I'm a little wary of ordering from abroad for time delay and customs duty reasons!
Hi. There are no (Other than Geordie Leather) makers of dies in the UK that I could recommend. As for buying from AliExpress, the price includes import fees and most things arrive within 10 days to the UK. Hope that helps.
@@HobbyBloxs thank you!
May I suggest a video? In the background of all your videos I see lots of plastic storage cases. I would love to see a video on how your organize your hardware. Snaps and rivets to start with. I would love to see if you mix the posts and caps of the rivets or keep them separate. It takes too much time for me to find my hardware. Your years of experience would be appreciated.
Hi Bruce. Yes. I hope to be moving into a new, larger workshop in the future. I then plan on doing a 'Setting up your workshop' video, where I'll cover all of these details. Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.
@@HobbyBloxs Your are welcome and good luck with the move. I am in a cramped part of my studio for my leather work. I just go a ton of rivets and was trying to think of the best way to store them and LABEL them. I never seem to pick the correct length post rivet on the first try.
thanks geordie , I would like to now where can I to bay that machine but i dont now if they have some shiper machine thank
Hello William. You haven't told me which country you are from. But, generally, you can buy this machine on eBay in most countries around the world. I hope this helps.
Great video Sir. Is there a place where I can order a die from???
Hi. You can find links to the suppliers here: geordieleather.com/die-cutting-leather-with-the-cpl-die-cutter-batch-production-of-small-leather-goods-in-leatherwork/
When are you planning on opening the website? It says "We are
Coming Soon".
Hi. The website is currently being re-designed. It will re-open within the next week as a leatherwork courses and online community. Further details will be given in the next video.
Have you had issues where the plate does not hit the die level? Do you need to level the plate somehow?
Hi Moises. I show you how to level the plate in the video. All the best for 2023!
I'm in the USA, where can I buy this?
The UK supplier ships to the USA. Link in the description.
He, where can i get that die cutter from?
Hi. There is a link in the description.
Whats the thickes leather you can cut with cpl die press?
Hello Mihaela. The press has a maximum range of 12mm, but it also depends on the type of cutter being used.
