I'm a 35 year old half Indian guy from Australia, I've always loved African music, back in the 90's my dad had some old encarta program on the computer that had excerpts of African music - and I couldn't get enough of it. Looking at this awesome musician, and the crowd, which is a lot of grey hair, old hippies? Doesn't matter, I just know these are my people. A big mixture of everything and everyone coming together. I love it. Great song.
I had the immense, immense privilege of seeing her perform in Philadelphia at the City Winery….for her she is incomparable in a league, dimension all her own….
@@Jiyukan that's not what you originally wrote though. look back at your original comment. "it is an african language, no one understands it." my "problem" is your lack of reading comprehension.
You might well know a straight descendant of the instrument. The Griots also had simpler 'traveling' versions of the instrument like the 'Akonting" for example. These found their way to the Americas in the dark days of slavery and eventually evolved into the 5-string banjo. I happen to play traditional claw hammer style banjo which I learned through listening to old recordings and such. Once I had the privilege of playing with an African Griot at a due in Belgium. We could not speak with each other because we didn't speak each other's language but we found out we had scores of tunes in common. One of the highlights in my life. So much fun! Я так был очарован всем, что голос изумрудный Соны не подчеркнул. Это шедерв. Она это не будет читать, но меня многие братья и сестры поймут... Я хочу поехать в АФРИКУ!
When I first saw this video I was very sick and suffering and this song felt like an incredible beacon of light love and simplicity (not in the sense of not being sophisticated because it is sophisticated but because this song feels very humble). Now I have a very different perception of it, I suffer less so there is less emotional contrast, I see light and love everywhere so the song and Sonia Jobarteh stand out less than before but listening to this I can remember how it felt with more contrast. Interesting how perception works.
I can't help but love her songs... I don't understand the words but I sure do understand the emotions behind the voice. When next she's in Europe someone please give me heads up, I want to watch her perform.
💗That's REAL music! Sona and her band are just great. Skilled players and just funny on stage. I love the message though I don't understand the language. Women and Men are just the same. They both add to each other. I could not be a man without a woman. - Great song.
Great Respect for this fantastic music, with a wonderful voice and the amazing Instruments, really a master track . Best wishes for the Future after the great change of mother earth, may be the Spirit of the Nature and Peace allways with you 🙏🕊️🌀💙🌊
