Just did this sketch while cooking tea. Really pleased with it. One line drawing to start and fill in after. Paint used already in pallette

Hi Toby! This was so fascinating watching and listening to the reasons for each step you took in your creation. For me and others you are the ultimate teacher helping us to loosen up and find our own creative adventure. With this painting I felt ( I may be totally out to lunch) you were connecting with Stonehedge and it’s primitive yet soulful self. You will probably have a good laugh at that and that’s ok with me. I’m always looking for meaning and purpose which I have a lot of fun with. I’m ready to begin the next online lesson with you on tone, value and colour. Thank you!

As a beginner, it’s hard to replicate what you’re doing. However, it’s very educational to watch you and hear your reasoning. I’ve tried a few of your tutorials with mixed results, but I think it’s a very useful exercise to “see” things differently. I will attempt this painting. Thank you for these thought-provoking tutorials!

It looks amazing! I feel daunted at trying to do it myself but I'll have a go.

    Love your narration, toby.
    Loved the end result.
Couldn't do my sunset like that because i would definitely feel ITS GONE WRONG 😲..
And then i would overwork as you said.
Looked so much better on drying..as you suspected.
I love the way you use your artistic licence so freely.
Again, the liths would HAVE TO BE dark
But it was great that you kept them light....iiiit's Toby😊

When I followed the tutorial , I just went for the semi abstract sun beams. I think the painting ended up more dynamic and interesting! Gwen

This whole process is what I want to be able to produce - at the same time finding my own style. I started with oil then acrylics and had disastrous attempts at watercolour till you. - Ok this is great it has made me enthused enough to start again today. You are a brilliant water colourist Toby with a beautiful relaxed teaching style thankyou so much Lynne from Australia

Enjoyed your sketching. I tried to follow but, in pencil, & was surprised at how lovely it turned out. Now to paint. Thanks.

I'm always so afraid of leaving white space but this is great to see. I'll try to emphasise my shadows instead.

I love this! Seeing line and wash lean abstract, feeling the wash of sunlight as it feels its way around the heavy rock - it's absolutely thrilling. Are you familiar with Angela Fehr? This piece reminds me of her work, which I also think is brilliant.

I love your style and I learn a lot with your videos. Who is Colin? It's the second time I hear you name him in a tutorial so I'm curious.

I love this approach. I find that I can sketch to my own satisfaction but the application of watercolours in any sort of representative way is extremely difficult and frustrating. This way I get to mess about with beautiful colours but the linework gives it some point, rather than just being splashes of colour on the paper. Sometimes, happy accidents occur and the sketch and colourful splodges augment each other to satisfying effect. If I do it often enough, I'm hoping the happy accidents will become intentional consequences.

Whitout the lines? Blurry smudges. Sorry to say, cause I can tell you're not just anybody. But for some reason, the coloring does not work for me in shaping reckognizable rock shapes. Only the lines work. Maybe it's just me?

It's line and wash... My style is absolutely not for everyone, and I am definitely just an anybody...
It's also really bizarre to say that line and wash art doesn't work without the lines though... They're the fundamental but that provides allllll the structure and most of the contrast! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
So yes, take away the lines and this would be total complete abstract nonsense...
