I've always seen demonstrations of watercolor pencils that simply lay down the pigment and then wash them, basically turning them into watercolors. The problem I have with them is that they are something different, neither colored pencil or watercolors, and both.
I'm pleased with this demonstration, you actually treat them like their own thing. I think I'll dig mine out of the drawer.
    Thanks Toby!

I adore Faber-Castell watercolor pencils. The pigment just melts immediately. I have a small battery operated sharpener that works like a dream.
Thank you Toby. You always give useful information and demonstration.
    Thank you

Careful Toby, if you relax too much then you forget to wobble your line, and people will work out that you are actually a very accomplished draftsman ;-) This was excellent, nice fast pace and highly motivating.

I really don’t know how to draw so I use the watercolor pencils to trace stencils then I free hand some of the details of the stencils so I’m learning slowly. Then I paint with my watercolors the lines
become one with the paints😊. Thank you for sharing your tips I’m learning so much from you .

This is great bc I have watercolour pencils in the travel kit you inspired me to make. I've never liked that the initial scratchy lines don't disappear with water but you've given me some new ideas so thank you very much!

Great video, Toby. I used them to come in at the end of an ink/watercolour illustration last night to add finishing touches and cool effects. It felt safer and was imo successful. More predictable and gradual than adding more watercolour, and avoided the risk of looking overworked.

Thanks for the video, haven’t used these materials before. A sanding block after cutting the wood off can speed sharpening. Keep your finger pressed on the tip to keep it secured to the block, rotate as you push back and forth.

I like watercolor pencil because it DOES leave crayon mark /texture ...That the whole point of having watercolor pencils. yeah, we can "hide" or use them in Whatever ways it is art after all, but the pencils effect IS the whole charm of watercolor pencils. It leaves a beautiful effect of paint AND crayons 😍

    • @TobySketchLoose

Yes they are, they're a little more limited - and require some 'vision' perhaps more than watercolour paints, but they're also cheap, approachable and fun...
