I really like the way this turned out. I'm going to try the continuous line idea today

You are encouraging me to cut loose 👍🏻 Mind you, I still love doing my wonky, ridiculous little sketches, don’t care what anyone thinks of them. I find myself so absorbed I suddenly realise I’m chatting away out loud, discussing the little lines and whirls of my developing sketch with … who? Ghosts?! 😂

What saves me from myself (I was trained as an engineer) is the ‘one line’ approach - if I stick to that looseness seems to come. Thanks from someone long retired.

I think that when I get to the final stages when you are putting in details, I am going to try colour pencil to put in little details, such as the far distant trees etc. Thanks for a great fun video.

I’ve saved and will return again soon to watch properly Toby. It’s very late on a Saturday night here and I soon have to stop the record player from spinning Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and solo Chris Cornell. Why must there be local council music curfews! Music and painting go hand in hand when I can sit with both.

I think the violet in the foreground reeds did work well. It dried down to a nice detail. When you first applied it I wasn’t sure it would work but your instincts were right again.

Wicked sky. I’ve a backlog of Lakes holiday photos to sketch and I am definitely going to try this approach. Thank you Toby. 😊

Loved your sketch. I’m trying so hard to sketch loosely, but I keep falling back into being fussy. I am practicing and learning an awful lot from you. Thank you.

Used some opaque lavender in the sky which worked really well. I left the negative space in the mountains and some grass areas as a contrast to the busy areas. Gwen

Toby, great video! Thank you for the landscape as today's focus. I am a huge fan of all your cityscapes but I can't get the knack of buildings yet so I get frustrated. This will be a fun project to try!

Really like the dark shading under the trees. Such a simple effect which I must remember. Question. Why did you leave that one tree white?

I hate landscapes, but your videos are extremely useful to see how you approach them - makes them seem very do-able (my arty friends who I paint with love them). I think the mountain is fine as negative space - it is a sketch after all, & not a traditional watercolour painting. Also, what are the benefits of a continuous line sketch Toby? Something I have yet to try...

Continuous lines are fun, you hav to simplify, and it adds character

I have just discovered your videos and really enjoy them. I want to take this up, thank you. What is the reason for leaving the mountain white? I would not have thought of that.

I like having space and white in my sketches, it enhances the contrast

This is lovely!! I really don't know how you can be so flowy and easy going with that continue line. How long would you say you had to practice before going like that? Also if I am not very good at drawing do you have any tips on how to start practicing this flowing style? And last question when you weren't so good did ever did you already have an idea of what shapes to draw and the direction of the line or was it intuitive?
Thank you very much, apologies about all the questions 😂

Complicated questions :) It's all itterative, take your time, reflect on your processes and outcomes and make sure you're enjoying yourself.

Thank you for this nice landscape. I'm going to do this. It's less intimidating than buildings😂
Do you ever use ink as your watercolor. Lindsay Weirich just did a beautiful birds video using disposable fountain pens and it worked really lovely. Lindsay the frugal crafter.
As always I really look forward to and enjoy your videos.
P.S. will you do something like this in a vertical orientation sometime?

    • @TobySketchLoose
      @TobySketchLoose  9 месяцев назад

Sometimes I do, and I can do something like this vertical 🙏

This is a lovely, joyful sketch, but the mountain, having no colour at all, makes things look unfinished - my own opinion, of course.

Life can be interesting with the variety of colours/shades. Especially since I have a colour vision defect. (colour blindish).😮‍💨
