In my 48 year career as an architect and architectural firm owner, I've only had one structural engineer call me up to request an appointment so that he could share his capabilities and demonstrate how he could best serve my clients and coordinate his services with our firm's overall design direction. Needless to say we retained his extremely exemplary services. I've always wondered why other engineers do not call upon architects for a sources of work.
Hi John, I am not sure I know we regularly keep in contact with architects. This is where our primary work comes from.
because it's a mech eng vs civil and I'm a mech eng as and I prefer automotive work than buildings
Could you please explain how 2 planestrikes caused 3 tower buildings to collapse almost symmetrically leaving such little seismic impact on the world ?
i work with Brendan and he is a great engineer :)
Thanks, hope my videos will make everyone a great engineer too.
@@BrendanHasty
It's will do Eng. Brendan.
Your efforts are so great
Thank you very much
My Junior period mistakes, trying to be precise. As a student i have always liked to do everything perfectly and precision was one of them. It took me a lot of time to understand that in Engineering specially Civil Eng. "precision doesn't exist". Safe along with economic and optimized design are what make a good structural engineer. May all you build last centuries.
Total agree, everything we do is a guess with knowledge and experience, as nothing is built with precision.
You hit the nail on the head, you learn everyday. Great channel.
Hi Dave, glad that you enjoyed. Thanks for the support.
Always good informative! Thank you!
thanks for watching
Great Video Brendan!! Love your works!!
Thankyou glad you enjoyed it, looking forward to producing more.
Yet again, a very helpful video!
Thankyou for your support
This may sound like an oversimplification, but I think that it's always better to overbuild than under build. Great video! Thanks for sharing.
It would be better to design to the code limits, but agree if it was a choices bettween over or under design, it is better to overdesign.
love these videos keep it up
Hi Adrian, thanks for the support.
Great video Brendan! If you could make a video regarding technical report writing in structural engineering, that would be awesome. Thanks
Hi Saugat, Thanks. That is on my list, and thanks for the suggestion. Glad you enjoyed the video.
amazing as usual!
Thanks AK Projects
I like how you list down all the specific areas under communication, great tip!
thanks, glad you found it helpful
Please do actual building project modelling ,analysing , designing A to Z using software like a etabs, by providing necessary information ,design calculations ,principals, we are really gratitude if you can do that service ,thank you,go ahead ,
Hy Brendan ,
you are doing an amazing job on all of your videos , Being a graduate civil engineer and a future structural engineer , You are an idol for people like me , who follows your step on every point of career , if you could make videos on how to progress the career into structural engineering from other fields , like a pathway to be a structural engineer , it would be great.
thanks for the wonderful job ,
hope to meet you some day
thanks
Hi Bibek, Thanks for watching and the support. also great suggestion this help alot to guide the direction of the channel.
Great Video.
Would like to know Can I have a sunk slab as a cantilever slab in a building model?
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and ideas. I'm in my fifth year of my structural engineer career. And now I'm heading from my job as a precast concrete Engineer to becoming an consultant at a consultant company in Sweden. It's a bit scary because I'm taking a big step in responsibility. But still really excited to learn more about structural engineering. Cheers 😊
Hi Simon, it's good to hear you are taking a big step toward a consultant role. Good on you! Keep learning, and have a curious mind, good luck mate!
Was Swedish essential to get this job I will be there for my Erasmus
Hey Brendam
I just noticed that the subtitles are out of synced after 4 minutes from the start.
Over all this was a very helpful video for me and learned quite a few things which really matters in our field of civil engineering.
Thankyou
subscribed!!!
Hi Snehank,
Thanks for watching and your support. Also thanks for letting me know about the subtitles, else are automaticly generated I will need to look into how to fix this.
@@BrendanHasty the automatically generated subs are working fine and are well synced but the subtitles under the section "" English(United Kingdom) "" they don't match with the audio , check after 3:53
thanks You...hope i can meet you someday 😊
Thanks for watching Ronak, looking forward to when that day maybe.
Hello sir... please make one video on selection of joints (pinned or fixed) in some specific steel structure or portal frame. Also the precise location of bracing bay in frame structure. Thanks....
Hi this will hopefully be cover when I do my rule of thumb video for Steel. Thanks for your support.
Halo Mr Brendan, may i ask a question ?
The mechanical electrical plumbing loads on house building structures, how much are those value that you ussually using on your project as a structural engineer ?
Thanx before Mr Brendan..
excellent
Thanks Ihsan.
Hey Brendan,
Great and informative video. In your opinion what is job satisfaction as a structural engineer and what is work/family balance like? Are there personality types that are better suited for the profession? Thank you!
Hi Jenelle,
Thanks for watching. For a structural engineering you need to enjoy solving problems, Math and physics from this you can get good job satisfaction with the right company. As for work/life balance that is something you need to manage as there will be always something that need to be done, and when passionate about engineering you can end up working a lot.
Engineering is good for a range of personalities as there is a several areas your career can take you, watch this video ruclips.net/video/uNu_kJskm44/видео.html for clarification, to enjoy engineering tho you need to like maths and problem solving.
Any topics you want me to cover let me know.
Hey Brendan,
Is it important to implement hand calculations or use software? And which software is good to design multi storey buildings, complex structures etc. Can you name any?
Hi Hassan, It is Important to know how to design/assess it by hand. As if you inputs the analysis incorrectly into the software you need a way to assess if you are correct or not. Software is import to know as well I have this video ruclips.net/video/c4wm96hLSBc/видео.html on the software that i reccomend
Thanks Brendan for your feedback. Hope to get in touch with you, take care 😊
I just lost my way in structural engineering ~ cause the syllabus is really void and need really a good knowledge
I really don’t know from where to start and how to start
Damn man
Greeting from Mongolia. I am a structural engineer, loving to watch your RUclips channel. Thank you for doing it and sharing your knowledge and experience all over the world.
What are the suggestion would you give for indian students who are planing to study structures in Foreign counties and to start their career by doing job.
Look at the paths, from engineers Australia. Getting you first position will be that hardest. Also, looking for positions at big companies that have offices in India, they may allow you to get a good reference to help you in the door.
👍🏻
Thanks Civil Ideas
hey Brendan, have you done any post-tensioned concrete design before?
Hey Tig K, I have done a lot of post-tensioned designs. Ranging from typical floor slab, transfer slab and some deep transfer structures. I can cover post-tensioned in future episodes if you are interested?
@@BrendanHasty It would be awesome to see a design class on a typical high rise structure to industry standards
do you think it's possible for someone who recently graduate and spend 1 year as a site engineer before working as a structural engineer
Hi Lenauim, site experience is always good. tho if possible I would recommend getting some design work first, as it will help consolidate your knowledge.
Hi
I am freshly graduated in civil engineering.
I want to start career as structural engineer.
Which softwares I should learn and any other advice about starting career.
Hi Nasir, I have a videos on these topics check out some of my older videos. Thanks for the support
@@BrendanHasty thanks
Please give me the specifications of laptop or pc that fit to the structural engineer.
Hi Sokheng, I have my laptop linked in the description, however it will depend on what software you are running. unless you are doing complex stability analysis or FEA models you don’t need a very powerful computer.
I want to work abroad, please can you help me
Kindly english subtitles apply in your videos
Hi Nasir there should be subtitles already added automatically. You should be able to turn them on or off
greatest mistake in my life when i decided to be structural engineer
Sad to hear that Sergey, hope your found a better parth.
@@BrendanHastyThe 9.11 event was shocking
You tube suggested this video to me as (Canopy 13 * 10 do it yourself No. 41). But this video is nowhere close to it. So I disliked it.
Sorry for that I have no control over the youtube search.
@@BrendanHasty hmm I see, Thanks, then I remove my dislike :-D
Struct engg are filled with inferiority complex. Charge very less. They simply starve. Great risk. No returns😂
